Things had been strange lately with the Goons.
It wasn’t anything particularly wrong, he supposed. People could drop contact for a little while here and there, but friends as close as he thought he was with some of his crew usually didn’t disappear without reason. Sure, the new kids Ashi and Bamboo made sense a bit, but Bloom and Dosu seemed so distant lately, and Maple had left to another dimension for a while!
Mumbo needed to go with him. He knew that. He’d already gotten the ritual instructions from the boss man. Before he left though, he needed to make sure the kiddos were alright.
Maybe it was stupid of him to think like that. He was pretty sure Dosu was older than him, but he couldn’t help but see Red and Blue as people to care for... Like kids. It was stupid, sure, and he’d probably never admit that to any of them, but it was how he felt.
So, sitting solemnly in the basement of the Stargoon Firehouse, he tossed a punching bag around, letting it swing haphazardly from its chain. Each punch should have been enough to knock it clean off the hinges, but he took special care when designing the training room. It’d take a freight train to dislodge some of this stuff.
”Hey Bloom, I know you uhh got stuff goin’ on, but I just gots ta say... Nah nah that won’t woik.”
He grabbed the bag and spun it like a top, letting it rotate rapidly, before reaching its limit and spinning back the other way.
”Yo Blue. I... Nah. I don’t call her blue.”
Why was he overthinking what to say so hard? She probably wasn’t even going to come.
”I wish I knew if I was doin’ sometin’ wrong, yknow Kiddo? Da boss comin’ back made me happy, but maybe he took a trip to Demon Land cuz he wanted to get away from us. Like, maybe I recruited the wrong people? Not to say you guys haven’t done yer job, but... Ugh. I dunno.”
He kept playing the words back in his head, so sure that the kid wouldn’t show up anyway. Maybe it’d be better that way.
