One More Good Morning
“Error. Error. Life support systems low. Amping regeneration machines. Vital signs growing. Blood rejuvenating. Wounds closing. Good morning, operator.”
Reese woke up on the forest floor, HUD swirling in a empty, grey void. The Bio-Android’s body was limp and cold. It was not breathing or twitching, for his creation was to not need to. “Where am I?” “Fukurou forest, close by to west city.” “And why am I here?” Waking up on the ground was not Reese’s forte, but it kept happening so often that he just accepted this routine. The cells in the Android’s hands opened up and began to drain the energy of the grass below him. The grey spiral on his HUD turned green to resemble his current power, Nature. With it, his body began to spark in energy, allowing him to sit up and examine the nearby area.
“I asked you a question…” Said the slim figure with it’s kind voice, blending it with a really harsh tone. “After the error took control-” “He went on a crazy spree and controlled my body again?” “Correct. I highly advice you return to CURE so that they can remove the error from your hardware.” “I’m not a robot, for the last time! I’m alive, dammit! Alive!” The boy threw his fists into the dirt, a pillar of thorns and vines shooting up around him.
“Incorrect. You are genetically enhanced robotics.” “You keep saying that, but I know I’m alive! I can prove it, watch!” Reese began to stand up, or rather, he tried. On his attempt, he got one foot upright before stumbling over and hitting a tree. “Yes, I can see it now. Definitely alive.” “Thank you…” “You didn’t let me finish. You are definitely alive, meaning you’re weak and stupid, just like all life.” “Why you little… The only error in me is you, miss priss!” “Incorrect, I am the perfect computer, turn into a moderator in your system to keep you alive. You should be thanking me.” “You don’t even have emotion…”
Time passed and the feminine figure finally stood, the male voice behind it counteracting the tone of the creature. “Operator, if I may ask, why do you want to know about life so badly? It is meaningless. CURE can make you perfect, unlike the living things of this world.” “Because… well, I’m curious. I’ve made it this far into having my own sentience, I want to know exactly what I’m living for… what living is…”
Reese examined his hand, standing in the center of the clearing. It was quiet. Far too quiet.
