ZERO TO HERO The buildings were tight together and loomed over her, like a forest of stone. When a certain bird boy looked up, the roofs were so close together that he could only make out a sliver of the blue sky that was mirrored by the tiny stream of light that trickled along the cold stone ground. The alleyway twisted and turned back on itself, first going to the right, then to the left. From where Caffey stood, whether he look in front or behind, he saw nothing but stone. And this was supposed to be a shortcut to his friend Whisk's house! Whistling and staring at the orange sky of the sun above, Caffey continued to trot through the secret path, whistling a tune. Alas, he found himself running right into someone else.
Unflinching, unblinking, a strange man blocked the bird's path. This tall Brenchian's face was mostly masked by a handkerchief. The knife that was being toyed with in his thick fingers glimmered in the sunlight as it was twirled so deftly- Caffey was rather impressed by the trick. "Wowee, mister, that's cool! But... Can I help you?" He spoke without any nerves. This wasn't his first dance in a Satan City alleyway, but it was Caffey's. "Swap, now." The bird looked down to the cracked device in his hands. Footfalls echoed in the trash behind Caffey. Perhaps this man had brought some nice friends, but... Something about this rubbed even the kindly avian the wrong way. "W-well... I-I don't know, d-dad did get me it for Christmas and it means a lot to us. I... I think I know a place where you can get one cheap, thou--"
The man approached before Caffey could utter a word, holding the knife scarily close to Caffey. "I said now, kid. Don't make me hurt you." Caffey's expression finally sank. Why would someone be this... mean? What did Caffey do? Was it something he said? "H...Hurt?" Caffey spoke, taking a few shaking steps back, only to bump into another mugger. The tiny cardinal glanced about, holding the cracked device to his chest. Swaps were hard to get, and Caffey had an awful rare Majin Bros model. Back against the wall, Caffey could only shiver and curl his legs to his chest, waiting for the inevitable hurt. It was times like this he wished his dad let him follow his superhero dream earlier in life.

For the life of him Koban could not quite understand Satan City’s affinity for almost labyrinthian alleyways, a standard alleyway itself was a rather dangerous thing in a densely packed city such as this and tended to be the scene of many a villainous act, these maze like alleyways were almost certainly even MORE dangerous. And also incredibly frustrating. Koban had decided to spend a bit of time more actively making rounds through such alleyways, for many they served as quick routes through the city, but for some they were a danger and he wanted to do everything he could to give villains and crooks all the more reason to leave such places and the people who used them well alone. It was in one such patrol that Koban wandered down a series of twisty alleys eventually happening upon a rather unpleasant scene, several adults crowding around something, he could not tell immediately what it was but he could sense that it was a living thing giving off enough power to register to his senses. Koban waited a moment to listen wanting to make sure he was making no mistake on what was going on, he heard a voice of a child responding to one of the men, the kid sounded terrified and that was enough to get Koban moving, the response from what was likely the leader of the bunch only cementing his decision grabbing hold of the arm of the thug wielding the knife, not enough to break it yet but more than enough to keep the man locked in his grip and force him to drop the weapon. “I believe the young man told you that it means quite a lot to him, I don’t believe he’s particularly interested in parting with it” Koban spoke up his tone firm as he focused his attention primarily on the other thugs giving them all a less than pleased look before settling his gaze onto the little bird his expression growing much more pleasant and a friendly grin spreading across his face “Are you alright?”The boy looked fine, mostly just shaken up so far but Koban wanted to be sure first while the thugs stared in stunned confusion for a moment before one of them reacted throwing a punch at the blue hero’s jaw a punch Koban made no actual effort to avoid simply taking it straight on unflinchingly allowing the man to strike him and in the process probably break a knuckle by the sound his fist made and his pained yelp as he stumbled back. CAFFEY'S PL: 20
Caffey opened one of his eyes at the sound of gasps and fading footsteps. Most of the thugs had began to scatter, running for dear life. Though, his gaze soon focused on his hero, earning a starstruck gasp from the tiny avian. "Y--you... y-y-you're HIM!" He stammered, eyes now starry and filled with hope and pure delight. He had seen Koban a few times on the television, and already the Heran made his way to the top of Caffey's favorite real-life hero list. The bird found himself croaking for words soon after, though an inhumanely large smile was spread across his face.
Koban effortlessly tanked the apparent head thug's punch with incredible style, earning an impressed whistle from the bird. "...I think that's our cue to scatter." One thug mused to another, and on cue, the band of hooligans spread out, one passing and grazing Caffey.
"That... was..." Caffey began, his tone rather blank at first. "...SO COOOOOOL!" He chimed again. "A-are you really, like, THE Koban I saw that one time on the news? Ohmygod I'm meeting a acutal real life real hero and, and--" Caffey stammered, chirping in glee and seeming to forget the fear he felt only moments ago in the span of seconds. He caught himself in his stammering, turning back to his savior. "I, uh... Always wanted to be a hero myself, and seeing you do super-stuff all the time is so cool and I wanna do it too someday!... Except dad says I have to wait until I'm eight-teen to train." The bird explained, not noticing that he was rambling.
"But thanks! Now by Baotendo is safe and sound--" Caffey reached to where he set his backpack that he slid his game system into only moments ago. Except, well, the whole bag wasn't there, likely stolen by the thugs as they all fled. "...Oh."

Koban’s grin widened just a bit as the young bird recognized him, it was always great to see kids who knew of his work and were hopefully inspired to be good people in turn, while it was certainly a good thing to help adults see a better path children would be the future they would be the ones making the decisions down the road and he could only hope that his presence could inspire them to make good choices. Koban barely even registered the punch only returning his attention to the thugs when one of them smartly suggested they depart leading to the group into a chaotic scramble away, unfortunately, in the chaos, the young bird was bumped but thankfully maintained his balance. “Well I’m certainly A Koban” Koban said with an amused chuckle “and I’m pleased to say that some do consider me a hero, something I work very hard to live up to.” Koban said pausing as the young bird started speaking again “Anyone can be a hero if they work hard enough, your father probably just has your safety in mind when he says you have to wait to start training. However being a hero is more than just punching the bad guys. It’s about helping people” Then the young bird noticed that despite there best efforts his Batotendo had apparently been snatched during the chaos, Koban frowned for a moment as he saw the boys disappointment. “Well that won't do at all” Koban said taking a moment to appear pensive “Well I wouldn't be living up to what I just said if we let this stand, but I don't believe I got a good enough look at those thugs to identify them myself.” “Would you like to help me, help you? I think you’d be the best fit to help me find those men, though if you do it’s probably best if you give me your name.” PL: 18,000

CAFFEY'S PL: 20
"I knoooooow..." The bird's tone dipped low. His father only wanted the best for Caffey's safety- he knew that much. "But I don't wanna just sit around while bad people are all confused and do bad things for weird reasons and stuff." He sighed, only to perk right back up with a determined little smile. Being a hero was far more than punching people also- Caffey had vaguely touched on it in the past. "That's why I wanna help the bad people become gooder people, also! I'm sure some of 'em could just use a friend to show them friendliness and that they don't need to be bad, and everyone at school says I'm one of the best friends in ever and ever!"
"And I've been giving away free lemonade I make myself, and giving all my neighbors' puppies some walks, and me and my best friend Lu are even helping some of our buds learn how to play Dungeons and Dragonballs!" Caffey remarked, pride filling his tone. He was weak and unable to reach his lifelong goal of being a hero just yet, but that didn't mean he couldn't do everyday things to brighten the world and make the days of others.
Caffey glanced around again. Maybe he just dropped his Baotendo somewhere, but... He didn't see the little device anywhere. Alas, his downcast expression lit up like a star again when Koban offered to help. "R--Really?! Like, really really!??!" His smile seemed too big for his beak at this point. "Oh heck, this is gonna be so cool! It'll be like an actual hero mission thing!" The bird seemed to bounce in place at a thousand miles per hour, though he calmed down at the question of his name. "O-oh, right. I'm Caffey!" He took a slow breath in to compose himself, turning to face the direction most of the thugs had scattered to.
"Well... I think they all went that way, mostly? I 'unno where they went after that, though." He tapped his bare toes on the ground, turning to stare up at the much taller Koban, wings at his sides, waiting to see what the game plan would be.

Koban was immensely pleased by everything he heard as Caffey described his efforts to try and put more good into the world while he waited to be old enough to try and actually face villainy head on, everything the boy described of course sounded good but it was the fact that Caffey wanted to help ‘bad’ people become good that really brought a grin to the blue hero’s face. Far too many people who decided to take up a stand against the darkness in the universe became a bit too uncompromising in there stance. He could only hope that that would never be the case for the young bird bouncing around in front of him. As Caffey excitedly responded to Koban’s offer for them to hunt down the thieves as a team Koban noticed something rather interesting about the boy, while yes he technically had a very low power when it came to the sort of powerhouses Koban was used to dealing with, the sort of people who could casually throw around energy blasts and powerd strikes that measured in the thousands to even tens of thousands in Power Levels, Caffey was NOT weak when it came to comparing to an untrained Earthling, granted the bar there was not set very high, but it did speak well to the boys potential strength once he did actually start training. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Caffey, since we’ve got a good general direction of where the villains took off too if we move fast we might be able to spot them, the best way to spot a bunch of moving criminals however, is from the air” Koban said pointing skyward “If you can fly on your own we can move together, otherwise or if you’d prefer it for speed, you can hop on my back and be my guide while I put my focus on flying” Koban offered, in truth he technically already had a good idea of where the group was heading, while they lacked particularly STRONG power signatures Koban could still sense the group, the only problem would ultimately be if they began to split up too much or got into somewhere too densely packed with people. But while he COULD swoop in and snatch up the villains Koban liked this method better, giving little Caffey a chance to join in on a bit of hero work was most definitely worth the extra time.
