Neo's appearance is largely humanoid, with the only traits that give out her heritage as a doragon being the horns upon her head and the blue tail that is on her back. With pink hair, neatly cut into a bob, she adorns them with accessories to keep them neat and in place. Generally, Neo dresses in traditional clothing such as a blue hakama or any other sort of kimono. She often pairs this outfit with white thigh high socks and golden slippers. Compared to most children her age, Neo is a bit smaller than them, coming in at a height of around 4'3".
Neo's was born and raised in a part of Earth that was much different than most others. The area she lived in was isolated completely from modern Earth, where 5 tribes had once had a great war to attempt and conquer each other for over a thousand years ago, only for things to resolve with each tribe agreeing to leave each other alone unless they trespassed another tribe's territory. The tribe she lived in, Harogen, was known for their spiritual views. Despite the fact it was one of the weakest tribes, the only reason why they weren't conquered in the war was due to the guidance of their protector and deity Saban, a shinjin who was known for her masterful tactics and would remain today as the one who would decide the tribe's future.
Shortly after she was born, Neo was one of three girls who had been chosen to act as the tribe's next shrine maidens, the people who cared for Saban's shrine and acted as a medium between them and the tribe. Due to the training starting almost immediately after she was born, Neo was separated from her parents, only allowed seldom visits. Her new family consisted of her fellow shrine maidens-in-training or her "sisters", Xenan and Bohri, and their teachers: the current three shrine maidens and the patriarch of the village, Lute. The three girls were taught how to act as maidens for a large portion of their young lives: spending their days learning about their goddess, the proper way to behave (causing them to cast away any childish tendencies and act mature at young age) and being educated in a variety of other topics such as reading and writing, mathematics, magic and the history. They were rarely gifted any time for themselves, but in those rare moments of freedom, they were expected to take up some other skill. Neo's skill was music, learning how to play the lyre where she sang stories of her goddess.
As they all got older, Bohri began to act out. After discovering a book talking out the outside world, a taboo subject within the village, she began to wonder what was outside the reach of the five tribes. Often, she would express curiosity, only to be shut down by Lute, saying it was too dangerous out there for them to learn. Neo and Xenan were firm in this belief, obeying Lute's orders without even thinking about it. However, Bohri had different ideas. She had always dreamed of visiting the outside world and wanted to see what it was like. Often she was caught trying to run away and reprimanded for her behavior, believing her dreams were only a child's fantasy. Her two sisters had different reactions to Bohri's beliefs with Xenan viewing her with disgust and would often ignore her while Neo sympathized with her and felt pity. However, she did nothing as she did not understand her sister's emotions.
At the age of eight, the village received a strange message from their goddess: teach the three future maidens how to fight. Within the village, fighting and combat magic were typically reserved for the hunters or warriors. However, they were unable to turn down an order from their goddess and had trained the three girls in the art of hand-to-hand, ki and combat magic. Each of the three maidens excelled in different areas with Bohri being best with physical based techniques, Xenan was intuned with ki while Neo herself was great with magic.
The path to becoming a true shrine maiden normally took eighteen years, however, a sudden illness swept through the village. It had taken away many lives, including the ones of Neo's parents and the three current maidens. With the disease, the three were quickly promoted to becoming officials in order to keep the surviving villagers calm in this dire situation. They had hoped the three maidens would be able to pick up experience as they go as they now had no mentor to help them with this task. At the age of twelve, the three maidens had received their first message from Saban, urging two of the tree to go into the outside world as their time locked far away from the modern world was over and soon all the villages would be united as one. The message said that one of the maidens would be the key to reuniting the world and the village back together by acquainting herself with modern culture and becoming a true servant of the Earth by helping those in need. However, Saban would further warn the death of one of the maidens by a neighbooring tribe. Upon hearing this, Lute had ordered Xenan and Neo to go out, knowing that Bohri's desire would only get her killed. Bohri was furious when she heard this and on the night before the two would depart, had snuck out by herself.
When they had found out about Bohri, Lute would only allow one of the two to travel as their goddess' prophecy was already becoming fulfilled. Xenan, fearful about the chance that she would be the one to die if she left refused to stay behind, leaving Neo the task of finding their sister. After a few days of preparations, Neo left the village for the first time in her life in search of her missing sister. Searching far and wide, she had no idea how long she had spent trying to find her sister as it felt like she had been searching for years. Finally, she had managed to spot her in an enemy tribe's territory, however, Neo was too late.
Bohri was being attacked by what had seemed to be a few hunters of this neighboring tribe and had managed to escape with Bohri before the two were killed. However, Bohri had already sustained fatal damage. Before she died, she had grinned and told her to keep living so she would be able to fulfill her dream of seeing what was beyond the village. Neo would bring her body back to Hargon where they held a funeral service for her where she was cremated and placed next to the ashes of the previous shrine maidens. Paying her respects one final time, she would set off towards the outside world to complete the task that she was given. Neo didn't just have a duty from her goddess to fulfill anymore, but rather the dreams and wishes of her dear sister.
