NAME: Banshee
ALIASES: N/A
SPECIES: Ghost
AGE: 343 (34 at death)
GENDER: Female
STARTING PLANET: Earth
APPEARANCE: Banshee has the strange, ethereal appearance of many of the afterlife’s weaker ghosts, with a simple face, a wicked grin and a conical farmer’s hat. She usually appears in a wisp of red, a little deeper in tone than many of her counterparts. This appearance, however, is not permanent: as she has gained in strength over the past century or so, she has gained the ability to assume a more recognizably-Earthling form from time to time. For the most part, however, she is content to remain an inconspicuous wisp.
BACKGROUND: The woman who would go on to be known as Banshee lived a remarkably average life, all things considered. She grew up on a family farm in the East, learning from a young age to tend to the crops and handle the farm’s relatively few animals. It wasn’t an easy life by any stretch of the imagination, but it was happy enough: the farm brought in just enough of an income off of their sales to keep everything up and running into each following season. As the only child in the family, she would go on to take over the family farm in her mid-twenties, handling most of the family’s finances as well as the day-to-day labour. Although she was ecstatic to have the responsibility, this also meant she had to shoulder the lion’s share of the blame when things went wrong. The first couple of years went by remarkably well, but following that, harvests began to turn up fewer and fewer quality crops. The farm fell into a deficit, and things looked rather bleak.
However, if there’s one thing growing up on a farm will teach a girl, it’s that hard work solves all problems. Or at least, that was her philosophy. After a series of poor harvests, she began to sell off some of her most prized possessions in order to pay for additional farmhands to come in and help radically reshape the farm, diversifying its crops and expanding its farmable land. By the time the next harvest came in, the gamble appeared to have paid off. They started to inch their way back towards the green, even with the additional employees. But life has a habit of of throwing curve-balls, and for this particular woman and her farm, that curve-ball came in the form of a potent energy blast sent spiralling towards her home from somewhere in the distance.
The explosion destroyed everything: the farm, the crops, the house, and last but not least, the woman who had spent her entire life working on it. The energy blast hadn’t been aimed at the farm on purpose, neither she nor her family were ever a consideration in the mind of the warrior whose attack had missed his target. The rumour was that the blast came from one of the Earth’s protectors, an unfortunate mistake that had a very real consequence. He never thought to investigate the site of the blast, nor would there have been much to seen had he done so: he was protecting innocents from some some new, strange threat, and a small explosion in the distance was hardly anything notable. Trouble only came when the woman opened her eyes again, only to find herself an ethereal wisp in the afterlife. After spending her life working hard and living by her morals, as countless had before her, everything she had worked for had been snatched away by a complete fluke.
That made her angry, and that’s when the woman who was began her slow transformation into the specter known as Banshee.
Vengeance is a powerful motivator, but Banshee had no real fighting experience in life. She wasn’t some proud warrior who could put what she’d learned in life to use in the afterlife. But she wanted to claim her revenge on the warrior who had inadvertently cost her everything. For that reason, she did what she could: she learned, she trained, she honed what powers she could develop until, slowly but surely, she managed to push the potential of her weak form, becoming a powerful spirit in her own right. It took upwards of three hundred years for her to finally push past her simple beginnings, but when she finally shattered that ceiling, power began to come more and more easily. The power to break out of the afterlife, and return to Earth where she could claim her vengeance…
… but the warrior who had wronged her is long gone, and she can never achieve that singular goal that dominated her thoughts in the centuries past. But there are people like him. Careless heroes and guardians, wreaking havoc upon the Earth without a thought to the consequences. If she couldn’t claim her vengeance, then she could at least be their scourge.
TECHNIQUES
OFFENSIVE TECHNIQUES:
[N1] Nightmare Scythe: Banshee conjures up a chaotic disc of white and red energy to hurl at her opponent, capable of dealing significant damage with its slicing edges. (Deals 33% of your current PL in damage.)
[UP2] Dual Nightmare Scythe: Banshee conjures up two chaotic discs of white and red energy, hurling each at her opponent in turn with the intention of dealing twice as much damage. (Deals 66% of your current PL in damage.)
[MP3] True Nightmare Scythe: Banshee conjures up a single, greatly empowered disc of white and red energy. It swells and crackles chaotically, but gains a more consistent form upon being thrown. It can slice its way through even extremely durable materials. Deals 100% of her current PL in damage.
[SIG] Crop Duster: The Nightmare Scythe may excel at slicing and cutting, but sometimes that's not enough to really put an opponent down. By using this otherwise simple ability in a more strategic manner, Banshee aims to weaken her opponent for the eventual kill. This appears for the most part like her True Nightmare Scythe, but leaves being a trail of energy where it flies due to the excess energy infused into it.
- TIER 1: Adaptability (add: Homing Variant)
SUPPORT TECHNIQUES:
[SU1] Essence Relocation: By phasing out her form, Banshee is able to avoid certain attacks. While phased, she can move at high speeds to close distances, but she is never able to completely vanish: as a result, she can only avoid attacks under a certain threshold. This technique allows her to completely dodge techniques beneath 100% of her PL. This technique uses 1 KP in KP Battle. (Flavoured Afterimage)
UTILITY TECHNIQUES:
[UT] Power Weighted: Banshee supercharges herself with energy, expanding her form in order to allow herself to output more energy. As a consequence, she makes herself into a much easier target. (This results in an increase of your offensive pl by +x1 and a decrease of your defensive PL by -x3. You must have a transformation that provides at least +x3 defensive PL to use this technique. Using Power Weighted costs 0 KP in a KP Battle.)
