Terryn’s fist collided into Ramen’s gut with heavy force, leading her to let out a yelp of pain mixed with surprise. The pathetic noise coincided with most of the air leaving her lungs. Her own efforts had been just a little too slow and a little too easy to read for this early point in the fight, but she had let her anger guide her actions more than head head. But as she recoiled from the blow, the fist still pressed into her stomach, the man leaned in to whisper into her ear. Her entire body stilled for the briefest moment as she spoke. The anger that had gotten her into this situation only continued to rise to a boil at his comment.
Sweetie? Just who the heck does this guy think he is?
With a sudden burst of energy, Ramen swung her hand down to knock his fist away before propelling herself backwards through the air. It was a swift and sudden retreat, one only managed on instinct as the stinging pain from his blow refused to vanish. After getting a little extra space away from her opponent, she found herself gasping for air -- but her eyes never left the Pride Trooper, narrowed in on him like soon-to-be-prey. But even as she wanted to charge back in for another furious assault, something clicked in her. A little shred of strategy lost in her earlier reaction.
Anger is useful. But anger needs to be harnessed.
Her posture seemed to change in mid-air and she drifted back down to the ground. Though her expression still read of rage, her stance returned to its previous, loose form. She extended both hands before her, small orbs of yellow ki forming in either palm. The beginnings of a pair of minor blasts, the sort that couldn’t hope to actually hurt Terryn… at least, individually. Suddenly, she let out a yell before beginning to thrust each hand in repetition, sending a series of ki blasts sailing in his direction…
… but none of them even made it to him. They began to explode in mid-air, sending smoke and debris flying in every direction. Although Terryn might be caught with little bits of excess energy if he remained still, the purpose of the blasts would soon become apparent. If her opponent remained on the defensive throughout the entire flurry, she would rush forward and try to thrust her way through the smoke. Her hands clenched together into another double-axe-handle, this one swung from the side and aimed for the side of Terryn’s face. It was slow, like before, but this time she hoped the smoke and debris would provide the smokescreen she needed to land it.
Captain TerrynRamen takes the punch, but tries to retaliate with a smokescreen of basic ki blasts to disguise a second double-axe-handle. She's still angry, but maybe she's being smarter about it. Maybe.

Much to the Earthling's curiosity, Ramen's anger seemed to fade away once she distanced herself. Almost as if she was finally starting to realize what Terryn was trying to do. ''Done throwing a temper tantrum?'' Terryn asked in a mocking tone, tilting his head to the side. He felt like a massive asshole, being so douchily arrogant, but he figured it'd pay off soon enough. Ramen was wicked strong, but if she couldn't keep her head cool in a fight...Well, she'd get killed. Terryn knew this better than anyone, considering his...Temper.
The gut punch seemed to wake her rationality up again, though. Her loose stance quickly shifted as she tossed a salvo of small Ki blasts his direction. Figuring it a distraction, Terryn reeled his arm back to parry the blasts away- but when he swiped outward, he struck thin air! The blasts exploded in thin air, causing a thick cloud of dirt and rubble to cover his sights! ''What the?!''
Terryn quickly shielded himself from the dirt and rubble, clueless as to where Ramen even was! The dirt stung in his eyes, causing his vision to go blurry. What he would give to be able to sense Ki right now...! ''Clever little sh-...!'' Terryn hissed under his breath, but before he could finish his sentence, Ramen emerged from the smokescreen!
The Trooper's eyes widened as he gazed up at the girl's furious glare, stunned. The axe-handle slammed into the side of his face with a mighty blow. The slam echoed through the air, the very force causing the grass around them to shake violently as Terryn was launched into the air.
''Ghh-haa!-''
He flipped through the air like a ragdoll, crashing into the ground and rolling for several feet before coming to a full stop. For a moment, he laid still, limbs twitching in shock. The crowd muttered nervously, thinking Ramen had just defeated Terryn. While it was a good ass blow, she wouldn't get away with victory that easily.
''G-Good shot...'' Terryn said as he gasped for air, climbing back to his feet. The Trooper stumbled momentarily, before wiping a streak of blood from the corner of his mouth. ''It's only fair I take you seriously now, yeah?'' His head tilted to the side. Slowly, Terryn breathed in.
Ramen really did seem to learn. She was a good fighter; Strong, skilled, strategic, and quick-witted. Yeah, Terryn was sure of it...She'd do just fine.
Fire suddenly flared around the Trooper's body, an aura of Ki that emanated an intense heat through the area. Terryn's power amplified twofold, causing him to be even more dangerous than before. This was his final curiosity...To see how she'd stack up against someone way out of her league.
A stern look crossed Terryn's face as he slid into his stance.
''So, what're you gonna do now? You can't beat me.''

A NOT-SO-SUBTLE INVITATION | Ramen's PL: 28,000 - (Base 14,000 - x2 Modifier) |
Ramen landed hard on the ground after the blow landed and darted off to the side to try to build some more distance between her and her opponent. She didn’t need to look back to realize he was still in fine fighting condition, even after being struck with that heavy blow. As ever, she ignored her instinct to follow up the attack for fear of being unprepared for the counterattack of her somewhat-more-powerful foe. To her surprise, even when she wheeled around to prepare for his attack… none came. He didn’t rush back in, nor did he fire off any new techniques or blasts. He just addressed her as he rose. At first, the notion that he hadn’t been taking her seriously provoked some offense in her. He gritted her teeth, fists clenching. It felt like a low blow, a typical boast thrown around by unprofessional fighters.
… except, it turned out Terryn was telling the truth.
As fire began to flare around her opponent, Ramen raised her hands to shield herself from the sudden intense heat he was giving off. The sight alone would have been enough to intimidate, but the sudden spike in his power caused her to freeze up momentarily. She reached out, poking and prodding to try to get an accurate reading of his energy… the best she could come up with was that he was at least twice as powerful than her, all things considered. Maybe even more. He was probably right when he claimed she couldn’t win, but she wasn’t prepared to call the fight just like that.
“You’re better than I gave you credit for,” she admits, lowering her arms to her sides. “I can see why the Pride Troopers wanted you. But you haven’t won yet.”
With that, she assumed her fighting stance again. She couldn’t afford to let this fight drag out at this point: at his current level of strength, Ramen doubted very much whether she could even stand up to a prolonged hand-to-hand assault, much less any more powerful techniques. That charging move he did earlier would probably knock her senseless at this point. She had to be clever… and even then, she needed some serious luck. One idea came to mind, but it would be difficult to pull off. Still, desperate times...
Her expression suddenly changed, anger flashing across her features. She clenched her fists again before shouting across at the Pride Trooper, her voice dripping with mock unresolved anger. “You’ve been nothing short of condescending this whole fight,” she began to rant, stomping her foot like a child. “I’m not going to let you get away with your stupid attitude just because you’ve lifted a few weights. The fact that you even -considered- trying to call me names earlier… ‘cutie’... ugh!”
In a sudden fit of ‘rage’, Ramen thrust both hands up and began to fire a barrage of minor ki blasts again. They were wild, half of them flying off-target and the rest so poorly aimed they were likely to land poorly even if Terryn opted not to avoid them. But as before, this was just a smokescreen. A fake temper tantrum intended to goad Terryn into just challenging the ki blasts… long enough for her to leap into the air, leaving an Afterimage before her.
It was all or nothing now. She just had to hope he bought into the charade.
She cupped her hands together at her side, energy flaring to life. Even if Terryn couldn’t sense the power she was gathering, he sure as heck would see the sudden glow of red that shadowed the entire area just as the still Afterimage faded from sight. Higher up in the air, angled downwards so as to not threaten the actual audience, she charged an attack. It was more powerful than her last by a great deal, and when she released it a wave of energy fired down towards the Pride Trooper. It was practiced and controlled, but no less dangerous.
“Take my Bakuharamune!”
It's desperation time! Sorry for the long post. I forgot to record KP last post, but it recovered to 5/7.
Ramen throws a pretend temper tantrum to try to fool Terryn into buying into her Afterimage despite their sudden power gap! She jumps above him and fires off her ultimate technique! [SU1] Afterimage used. [MP3] Bakuharamune for 28,000 PL damage incoming! KP 5/7 > 1/7

Terryn was pleasantly surprised by the girl's spunky nature. Not quick to give up! She thought she still had a chance, despite Terryn being double her power! Whether she was lying to herself to boost her confidence or not was up for debate, but it was admirable nevertheless. ''So I'll assume that means you're gonna give it another shot? I mean, sure.'' Terryn tilted his head to the site with a cheeky smirk. The Trooper shrugged playfully, gesturing her to come at him.
But rather than another blind, wordless assault, Ramen threw another verbal fit. Terryn hummed awkwardly as she began to speak out of nowhere, slowly lowering his guard. ''I...-'' Terryn paused. Could he even tell her? Now? When their fight hadn't even finished yet? The Earthling cursed at himself in thought, maybe he did go a little overboard with the smarm...But there was no use in worrying now, was there? He'd find out if she was willing to accept his reasoning after the fight.
''So do something about it, then. Come on!'' The Trooper prodded, flicking his head backwards. Oh how he wished he didn't have to paint himself the villain in this situation. The spotlight was on Ramen now, with everyone banking on her to pull off the biggest comeback imaginable. The crowd could feel the pressure exerting from Terryn's aura, and just how badly it overshadowed Ramen's...But still they rooted for her! Just, y'know, silently.
Another volley of haphazard Ki Blasts was tossed into his direction. This time, even Terryn could tell the intention behind it- he wasn't THAT stupid. ''That ain't working a second time!'' Terryn called out through the smokescreen. With a single, fierce flick of his arm, Terryn created a powerful enough gust of air to blow away the entire smokescreen. Through the fading dust and rubble he gazed upwards, and there she was...
Damn, that was quite the attack, wasn't it? Terryn whistled casualyl as the wave of energy spiralled toward him.
''Impressive!''
But sadly for Ramen, Terryn was on a whole different level here.
Without even the lightest of effort, Terryn stepped to the side, evading the beam entirely. The explosion that hit the ground was enough to send Terryn flying a little farther, but the Trooper was completely unphased. The second his feet touched the ground, Terryn launched himself toward Ramen! His aura flared warmly as a condensed flame wrapped around his knee. Fiercely Terryn extended his knee right as he was about to crash into the girl, aiming to spike her directly in the gut!
While a brutal and heavy blow, Terryn wasn't aiming to permanently injure her. The wind would be knocked out of her, and she'd possibly be unconscious for a bit, but nothing she couldn't recover from. A fighter like her deserved nothing less.
''...You did pretty good.'' Terryn spoke with a genuine smile as he slowly removed his knee from Ramen's gut. He'd gently place a hand on her shoulder, and help her downwards. ''Nice fight.''

A NOT-SO-SUBTLE INVITATION | Ramen's PL: 28,000 14,000 |
Ramen had thrown all her hopes of winning behind that one attack. It was powerful and, at least she had thought, clever… but it was also just too little, too late, and as the blast struck below the man, the resulting explosion served as little more than the visual of her chances of victory going down the drain. It didn’t take him long to launch his counter-attack, and with the sudden spike in his energy, it was something she knew full well she couldn’t handle. But she wasn’t going to give in here, either. Terryn had to take his win from her, even if the writing was on the wall. She raised her guard in the split seconds spared to her by the blast, a mid-air defense not unlike her grounded form.
Whatever good her defensive posture might have done her was soon rendered meaningless as the Pride Trooper launched himself forward. He was moving with the kind of speed that not even she could easily track. She was able to figure out more or less his trajectory through his energy signature, but even that was proving difficult. She couldn’t block an attack if she couldn’t see it, and it was too powerful for her to take clean. Knowing full well she couldn’t dodge, she thrust her fist out to try to meet her opponent as he charged in. It was a split-second tactical decision, but one which required a stroke of luck that she just couldn’t rely on.
… and then, Terryn’s knee collided into her gut. The pain came first. It was a sharp and debilitating pain, like she had been split in two by the attack. Soon, it numbed into a dull sting… but the wind was knocked out of her, and she couldn’t get it back. Her energy had been snapped out of her too. Without realizing it, the man’s strike had actually managed to knock her out of her initial power-up. The pain was the least of her problems, however, as she was barely able to move to sit herself upright. Her eyes opened and closed heavily as she barely held onto consciousness. Between his blow and her loss of energy, it was probably stubbornness alone keeping her awake.
She had little to do but accept Terryn’s help back to the ground. It was better than falling flat on her face, and at this point... she wasn't even entirely certain she would be able to use her ki for flight properly.
“Th-thanks,” she muttered in a hoarse voice, the lack of breath impeding her speech. “G-gon’na ne-need a minute…”
Captain TerrynRamen is defeated! She's fighting to stay conscious, but her energy has faded and she is incapable of fighting any further. She's barely capable of basic flight and is only able to make it to the ground without just collapsing out of the sky thanks to Terryn's aid.

''Y-yeah,'' Terryn chuckled nervously, a light bead of sweat forming on his forehead. ''Take a breather. Sorry if that hurt...'' He lightly patted Ramen's shoulder. She'd be okay, right? Yeah, probably. All of this simply made Terryn feel a tad...Weird. Guilty.
The crowd was struck with stunned silence, unable to believe the titanic powers that clashed before their very eyes. Most of those gathered were but regular Earthlings. People who have never seen a single Ki blast, people who had never seen someone fly, people who had never seen someone shake the very ground with a simple punch. You started to take those things for granted after some time, didn't you?
Despite the odd realization, Terryn didn't particularly appreciate the silence. ''H-Hey!'' He called out. ''Give her some damn applause, she's deserved it!'' Terryn's voice was stern and disappointed. He raised Ramen's arm to the air as the crowd hesitantly began clapping and whoo'ing, slowly turning into a genuine round of applause. Ramen was the real winner here!
''Uh, Ramen?'' Terryn's subtly leaned into her earr with a low voice, practically whispering. ''You got a minute to talk after these bozos piss off? Like, privately?'' He asked in a cautious tone. After his shockingly insulting and arrogant behaviour just a minute ago, he wouldn't be surprised if Ramen thought he was gonna hit on her again. The Trooper hoped she'd give him a chance to explain himself, though. He had the sinking feeling that they'd have to rely on eachother someday...
''G-Guys! Thanks for stopping by, super cool to see you all come this way in hopes of seeing my face caved in! I'm kinda busy though, so I'll do a quick autograph round before I gotta go!''
The faked enthusiasm in his voice went by unnoticed to his drooling fanbase. Which was surprising, considering just how blatantly forced it was. But, then again, these were teenage girls. Denser peopple simply didn't exist.
''I'll uh, be with you in a sec, they'll kill me if I don't do this...'' Terryn once again whispered to Ramen, his voice caked in hesitance. Terryn looked back to the crowd, and forced a grin. The beaming smiles of attention-hungry teenagers grew ever closer, and descended on the Trooper like a tsunami.
''Ghaa- fuck...! O-One at a time, please! Only got two hands!''

A NOT-SO-SUBTLE-INVITATION | Ramen's PL: 14,000 |
Things were going by in a blur for Ramen at this point. Upon reaching the ground, her legs practically gave out on her. The sad fact of the matter was that after taxing her body to its limit in their duel, she was now forced to suffer the consequences. Most of her focus was going into trying to recoup some sort of energy, at least enough to manage basic ki functions. Right now, she wouldn’t be able to fly. But the last thing she wanted to do was stick around to whatever kind of self-absorbed boasting this guy was surely going to ramble through…
… only, to her surprise, that boasting never came. Instead, her hand was raised above her head as the Pride Trooper demanded a round of applause. She could barely conceal her surprise at the gesture, eyes widening as she snapped to attention. After everything he had said and done during the duel, she could never have predicted he would be a graceful winner. She looked around at the crowd during their applause, a tinge of pink finding its way to her cheeks. Touching as it was, this kind of attention was a little embarrassing.
“U-uh, thank you,” she murmured in a quiet, unheard response to the crowd, turning her gaze downward as if she took a sudden interest in their damaged, impromptu-battlefield.
She twitched a little when Terryn leaned in to whisper, but responded with a quick nod. “Oh, erm. Yeah, sure… just. Give me a minute, okay? I need to sit down or something…” she didn’t wait long to make good on that, finally buckling down to the ground when Terryn started off to his cheering throngs to sign autographs. She tried to keep her attention squared towards him, but she couldn’t help but feel her gaze continuously drifting downwards. If stubbornness was what kept her from falling unconscious before, it was that same tendency that was keeping her from outright drifting to sleep here and now, despite the clamouring around her.
Dully, she crawled over a pace to snare her discarded leather vest. Unzipping an inner pocket, she dug around until she came up with a little protein bar, half-eaten with the wrapper twisted up to try to keep it fresh longer. She started to nibble on it while she waited, in the hopes a bit of nutrition might just help her recover enough to have something resembling a dignified conversation with her opponent.

| A Not-So-Subtle Invitation |
A minute or two passed, and with it the rowdy chatter of Terryn's fangirls slowly began to die down. They left little by little, all satisfied with the selfies Terryn had taken with them, or the autographs he had given them. The occasional sideward glance was sent toward Ramen's direction, just to check how she was doing. Luckily she didn't pass out. Y'know...Yet.
Terryn hurried along, and not before long, the last of his fans said their goodbyes and took their leave. ''Phoo...'' Terryn sighed a puffy sigh, before inhaling sharply. He turned to face Ramen, carrying a more relaxed smile. ''Keeping that stupid crowd-pleasing act up gets pretty damn exhausting after a while.'' The Trooper let out with a brief smirk, before it faded. ''Uh- Y-you're okay, right? Don't gotta take you to a hospital?'' Terryn's brow furrowed worriedly. He still felt bad about hurting her, even though they both agreed to beating the shit out of eachother. Maybe because Ramen was a girl? ...Definitely. Not a doubt in Terryn's mind.
After a brief silence, the Trooper grinned amusedly. ''Y'know there's a bench right there, right?'' He gestured somewhere behind him with a thumb. There, among all the broken-up land, stood a wooden bench. A bit scuffled, yet surprisingly undamaged through it all. The Trooper extended a hand toward Ramen, willing to help her on her feet. She looked like she could pass out at any second!
''Can you stand?''
Whether or not Ramen had accepted his gesture, they'd eventually make their way to the wooden bench. He'd sit down with a sigh of relief, and simply let silence wash over them for a bit. It felt relaxing, in a strange sense. They had just finished uprooting this entire park, and the damage was probably going to take months to repair. And despite that all? It still felt serene.
''Thirsty?'' Terryn asked, yet he didn't really bother to wait for an answer. He fished a small capsule out of his not-so-cool Trooper uniform, and threw it onto the ground directly infront of them. A coolbox popped out from the smoke, filled to the brim with icecubes and cans of beer. Ice cold, the real good stuff. ''Go ahead.'' He nodded toward her. Without hesitation, Terryn grabbed one, and sat back.
A chilling hiss rang through the air as Terryn cracked open his can of beer, and took a heavy sip. He relaxed further in his seat, although he felt uneasy on the inside. He wasn't sure how Ramen would react. But, then again, there was only one way to find out, right?
''...So, uhm...'' He paused awkwardly, blinking as he gazed downward. ''...Sorry for acting like such an asshole back there.'' Terryn finally managed to let out, shifting his gaze to Ramen as he did. His eyebrows were curled upward, eyes wide like a puppy-dog filled with regret.
''Thing is, I wasn't really looking to just...Flex my power on someone. I was, uh-'' The Trooper paused to take another sip of his beer, and get his thoughts in order. ''Scouting, I...guess?''
He sat back and let his eyes drift off toward the skies. Terryn simply stared at the clouds slowly wave past, as he continued. ''You're really strong, you know? I wanted to see you at your best, so I kinda had no choice but to piss you off.'' After all, why would you go all-out if you didn't have a reason to? Terryn sighed, and idly sipped his beer.
''I just...Wanted to know for certain if you could protect yourself if it came down to it. Things have been getting really...tense, lately. With the Saiyans, and the Fleet, and all that...''
His tone gained a hint of fear. But just enough for it to not be super obvious. Terryn shook his head briefly, and forced a smile. ''Fuck that, though. No need to stress out over that. Not now.'' He was assuring himself more than Ramen at this point. The girl seemed far more confident than he would ever be.
Shrugging that off for now, Terryn glanced to Ramen, a faint smile crossing his features.
''Besides...I'm pretty damn sure you're gonna be fine anyway.''

A NOT-SO-SUBTLE INVITATION | Ramen's PL: 14,000 |
While Terryn dealt with his mass of fangirls, Ramen remained in place, munching away at her protein bar. When she finished, she leaned over to tuck the wrapper back into the vest pocket to throw away later, before easing into the vest one arm at a time. She pinched the bridge of her nose, blinking her eyes blearily to try to wake herself up. Although she might not be able to rush into another fight anytime soon, the couple minutes of rest and bite of food were enough to at least shake the dazed feeling she had been fighting through moments before.
“Yeah, m’fine,” she replied when Terryn returned. She glanced over at his hand, weighing whether or not she should take it. Eventually, she just shrugged and reached out to grasp it, accepting his help to get to her feet. “Don’t think anything actually broke, so… I’ll pass on the hospital. Just going to have a lot of aches and pains. And probably bruises.”
When they made their way over to the bench, Ramen took her seat at one end. She nodded in affirmation: it hadn’t really dawned on her until she had been asked, but she was desperately thirsty. When the cooler full of beer appeared, she reached out to grab one and cracked it open. She tipped it back and took a long drink… and another, and another, until the entire can was empty. She let out a gasp of air before reaching for her second beer, taking just small sips from this one. “T-thanks,” she mumbled, sheepishly.
“No, I mean… you were acting like a total asshole, but I kind of figured after it all went down what you were doing. Especially after you raised my hand back there. I mean, if you were really that bad you wouldn’t have done that sort of thing… y’know?” she lifted her shoulders in a little shrug, pausing long enough to take another long swig from her beer. At least this time she didn’t down the whole can. She remained quiet while Terryn spoke the rest of his piece, mostly just nursing her drink to make it last a little longer. At this rate, she was going to be down three before their conversation was over, but she kind of had to space it out. It’s not like she was a heavyweight, over here.
“... I appreciate the compliment, but -- to be frank, I’m not ‘really strong’. Maybe compared to all of the people out here, but not when you start to look past them towards the kinds of… strange people that have started showing up. Like you said, the Saiyans and that -- Fleet thing, I guess. Those lunatics up on the Lookout that time,” she frowned, leaning back on the bench. Trying to catalogue all of the individuals who were, or who she suspected were, her superior was a dizzying exercise at this point.
“... I don’t know. I hope you’re right about everything, but part of me expects to end up the next person to be squashed beneath one of those giant apes or vaporized by one of those weird snake demons. I mean… let’s be honest, here. I was no match for you. Don't get me wrong. I'm going to keep training, and I'm going to get better, and even if I don't get that much better....well, I'll still fight whoever rolls around to threaten Earth. But I don't want to lull myself into thinking I'm better than I am."

| A Not-So-Subtle Invitation |
Terryn quietly hummed to himself as Ramen began opening up. It turned out that there was some genuine fear and doubt under all that spunk. Maybe his assumption was wrong? Maybe Ramen really was just as afraid as he was. Maybe she was just better at hiding it.
The Trooper continued to listen as Ramen talked, his eyes drifting off toward the sky. She had a point, somewhere. The two of them didn't get very lucky in the genetic lottery. They didn't have access to the stupid power the Giant MonkeyTM form gave you, and neither did they have the ridiculous natural strength an Arcosian, or most other Alien races possessed. They were Human. Just Human.
''That's a good way to look at things,'' Terryn paused, glancing at her from the side. ''...Y'know, not overestimating yourself. We both have a long ass way to go.'' The Trooper blinked idly, and let his gaze drift off to the distance again. ''Even being this powerful, most Saiyans or Lizards would wipe the damn floor with me. They can just...Do things that we can't. It's kindof unfair, really.'' Terryn couldn't help but let a small chuckle lace his words. Who'd have thought he'd come to the point where he wished he'd rather been born a Saiyan? Thanks, gene pool.
After taking another sip of his drink, Terryn hummed, and looked at the girl. ''But, you know what we have, that no one else does?'' He paused with a smile. ''Help. We always have help, anywhere and anytime.''
He let the words sink in for a moment, hoping Ramen would understand. No matter if she did, though, Terryn would continue regardless. They could both use the positivity. ''Think about it. Back on the Lookout? I thought I was going to die...But once I got there? There were so many people there...All ready to fight for the sake of keeping this place safe. Hell, I didn't even know any of them.'' Terryn explained. He'd have likely never met Koban if it weren't for that day. Or Bella, or Nashi...Or the person sitting right next to him. Ramen. ''Y'know, until now.'' He glanced at her and cracked a smile.
''It's like...It's like we're all bound together by some weird fate-'' Terryn suddenly let out, as if he was some mystical guru.''...-Not that I believe in that magical hocus-pocus bullshit. But, y'know, you get me right?'' Damn, he probably looked like a real idiot now...! The Trooper let out a mix of 'uhhm's and 'errr's, before ultimately sighing. Just give up, dude.
''...What I wanted to say was; There'll always be someone to help you out. Even if you're weaker, even if you're fighting a lost fight. Someone will be there. You're not alone.''
The Pride Trooper spoke these words as he looked right at her, a weird emotion washing over him. ''I'll be there.'' Terryn said, without ever saying it.
Everything fell silent.

A NOT-SO-SUBTLE INVITATION | Ramen's PL: 14,000 |
Ramen listened quietly to the Pride Trooper, taking occasional sips from her beer as he spoke. The difference between how he was presenting himself now and how he had during the fight was like night and day. Even though they had already gone over the purpose behind his boisterous attitude before, she couldn’t help but be taken a little off-guard by just how sincere he seemed. She dipped her head in a low nod. Though she felt a little silly admitting it, even in silence, it did feel unfair. Even strained to the absolute limit, she couldn’t manage to come close to the kind of powers Saiyans seemed to achieve naturally. Even beyond power, she suspected her body was just a little more fragile… maybe a Saiyan or, as Terryn had put it, a ‘Lizard’, would already be well on the road to recovery after their duel.
But here she was, taking swift sips at her beer as if it was some sort of healing elixir.
Even with his words of encouragement, the Lookout remained a somewhat bitter topic for her. As much as it had inspired her feverish training in the weeks that followed, it had also been a wake-up call. And not a kind one. “I know what you’re getting at,” she spoke quietly, frowning down into her now half-empty beer can. “And you’re right. The group that assembled there does kind of show that we’re not alone in this fight. Whatever ‘this fight’ ends up being. But--I mean, I was outclassed there. Weak compared to the sort of folk that showed up to fight. Even compared to you, which--” she managed a weak laugh. “I guess that hasn’t changed. But, do you remember that one man? I think he was a human, like us.”
She leaned back in the chair, wrinkling her nose in thought. She couldn’t remember his name, but she sure as hell remembered what he said. “He dressed like a superhero. The fight hadn’t even been decided yet, and he singled myself and three others out and told us that if we didn’t leave, someone else would be hurt or would even die because they’d have to protect us. In effect--” she waved her hand as if to illustrate this point. “In his eyes, I was just someone that needed to be babysat. A hindrance to the team, not part of it.”
At that, she lifted her can up to take a longer drink, draining this one empty too. She eyed the cooler, sorely tempted to claim her third can of the day. But even with her bitter recollection, she couldn’t help but be moved by the Pride Trooper’s words. She let out a soft sigh before dipping her head into another nod. “Regardless of all that, thank you for what you’ve said. And the same goes for you. I don’t know what the future is going to look like, but…”
She managed a faint smile as she looked back to Terryn. “It’s good to have a friend in the fight.”

| A Not-So-Subtle Invitation |
Part of him felt very strange. Why did he care so much? Why did he want to see this girl safe, stress-free, and happy? She was practically a stranger, after all...They'd only met properly not even a few hours ago. Terryn awkwardly shifted in his seat, simply writing it off as them more or less having the same fate. They were normal people, thrust into a conflict that spanned generations and galaxies, all because of necessity. No longer were they able to live their normal lives. No longer were they able to simply...Be alive. Terryn knew how she felt, better than anyone.
Sometimes, even those that carried the weight of the world needed a shoulder to lean on. Terryn knew that, better than anyone.
By the time Ramen had finished talking, Terryn's can was completely empty. He'd always been the speedy drinker. The Trooper nodded silently, reaching for a nearby trashcan, and dumping the can into it. ''...Don't take it too personal.'' He said, breaking the silence.
''I mean, he was probably just making sure no one'd get hurt...I'd be worried too, y'know?'' Terryn quickly glanced to her from the side, blinked a few times, then looked back. ''...Difference is, I'm not going to stop anyone from doing what they want to do. If you want to fight, no matter how outclassed you are, no matter how dead you're going to end up...Go right ahead.''
A weird emptiness coursed through him once he uttered the words. Terryn felt sad, knowing fully well that he wasn't being true to himself. He didn't know if he had it in him to let people do what they wanted to do. Let them fight a fight they could not win. Let them fight a fight they would die in.
...If anything, it was selfish. It was their choice, not his.
Terryn tried to fight the frown etched onto his features. It didn't work. ''But I'm not going to let you fight alone. Never-fucking-ever...'' He sighed out, almost as if the words were directed solely at Ramen. In truth, they applied to everyone Terryn held dear. He could count them on a single hand, but regardless.
After taking in a deep breath, Terryn was finally able to force away the frown. ''Like I said, we're never alone.'' He was able to say with a faint smile. ''You're not worth anything less simply 'cause you're not as strong. It's this part that really matters--'' Terryn paused to pat himself on the chest. The heart, to be exact. ''...And you got plenty of it. I can tell.''
His smile grew, if only by a little.

A NOT-SO-SUBTLE INVITATION | Ramen's PL: 14,000 |
Terryn was right. The self-identified superhero was probably trying to save lives when he had issued that order, but even though she could see the logic in his actions, it wasn’t quite so simple to reckon with her own feelings. If she were in his position, she couldn’t say whether she would feel burdened by weaker fighters on the field. She might very well have wanted to do the same thing had their positions be reversed. But maybe, more than anything else, it was being one of those weaker fighters and having it thrown back in her face that had really gotten to her.
She frowned to herself, thinking while Terryn spoke. He was optimistic, without a doubt… but she suspected there was something a little more sober behind his words. Something more than he let on. There had to be, right..? He was just human, like her. All the same, she couldn’t help but feel a little lifted by what he was saying. Or maybe that was just her energy filtering back after being so thoroughly thrashed in that earlier duel. Either way, she looked to Terryn with a more genuine smile than before. “You won’t have to fight alone either,” she spoke quietly, dipping her head in something of a bow. A sign of respect, albeit one given sluggishly courtesy of her poor condition. “But it’ll take more than just us. Probably more than all of the people on the Lookout combined. I don’t know enough about our enemies to say for sure, but I have to suspect they hold the advantage. They wouldn’t be threatening us if they didn’t.”
She glanced down into her lap. Try as she might to remain on topic, her mind raced again. It went back to the very Lookout they were discussing. That terrifying demon, the grey bubblegum man, and even the rampaging oozaru constantly lingered at the edge of her thoughts. She wasn’t even a blip on their radar, and she would be surprised if they could pick her out of a crowd. Yet they had somehow become the internalized embodiment of her own shortcomings. But then, Terryn’s final statement snapped her away from that track of mind. She looked back to the Pride Trooper, her eyes growing wide. Heart, he said.
Something about that resonated with Ramen, as cheesy as it was. Maybe she did have heart. And if she had that, then surely she could overcome her own weaknesses..? Her expression shifted rather suddenly, as if a switch just went off in her head. She wasn't usually one for motivational speeches, but when it came from someone with such proven strength... maybe it was different. Her quiet uncertainty was soon replaced with a look of determination, if not quite confidence at this point.
“... You’re right. I'll never let you fight alone, either... and maybe one day, with a little bit of that heart, we won't be 'just human' anymore..." she lidded her eyes, before adding in a more forceful tone, "I've felt sorry for myself for too long. I'm going to get strong. And when the time comes to fight, I'll make those demons and aliens look at us and think to themselves, 'if only I were born human.”
