The house was a rather plain one residing at the edge of a large flat field which was sparsely covered with beautifully blossoming trees. It was a simple abode consisting of an open kitchen and living area, two bedrooms, an unused office and a rather small bathroom. It was a rural home with low rent and seemingly ordinary in every way except for it’s occupants which consisted of a Saiyan who had once been Planet Vegeta’s Royal Botanist who maintained the Palace Gardens. The other was a Shinjin, a member of the race that contained the Kaio who watched over all of creation, a being of divine origin. Currently it was the second of these occupants that was currently at home. Humming to himself Kansa was carefully preparing his tea as he heated up a pot of water, while it boiled he was grinding up the Matcha powder he would use for his tea. Setting out a tray with a cup and a ceramic teapot. As he continued preparing the tea he pondered his time since arriving on Earth from Planet Vegeta. At first he hadn’t been happy here but then again he was self-aware enough to know that he didn’t exactly adapt well to change. Hardly a surprise that a 12,000 year old being who lived in unchanging paradise fulfilling the same divine duties day in and day out would lead to someone who wasn’t used to dealing with his life changing around him. He’d only begun to get comfortable on the Saiyan homeworld after 13 months but then the Arcosians had shown up, slaughtered everyone they could get their hands on and chased the inhabitants away. ‘Well evil is just as necessary to this world as good. Time was practically circular with how events played out again and again. It’s probably how beings who feigned being fortune tellers could exist. If one observed mortals for long enough then they could begin to observe how these repeated events would come to pass.” he thought to himself. “Afterall a long time ago a particularly powerful Arcosian had annihilated the Saiyan race. He had then faced the wrath of a Saiyan himself. Then a few hundred years ago the Saiyans had once decimated the Arcosian’s Empire and now the changelings were getting their revenge. Someday soon the Saiyans would counter-attack. It was inevitable. Then the Arcosians would be on the losing side.’ he thought to himself. ‘Eventually it would all start again.’Sighing he frowned slightly ‘I shouldn’t have gotten as involved as I did on planet Vegeta. I am surprised there hasn’t been reprimands… I mean we’re not meant to get involved right?”At least he thought that was right. The Kai and Supreme Kai at least probably weren’t meant to get involved directly with mortal affairs except for under special circumstances but what about the lesser Shinjin? Honestly he was 12,000 years old and he still didn’t know. The rules seemed a bit vague honestly. So he’d just have to do his best to stay out of trouble he guessed especially on this planet that had probably not seen many, if any, Shinjin before. It wasn’t like his race was exactly overly populous. Finishing the preparation of his tea he carried the tray over and sat in Seiza on the ground and placed the tray on the ground next to him. Pouring himself a cup he realised that he hadn’t actually contacted his mentor since the evacuation and relocation to Earth. He should probably have done that by now in retrospect. Still it wasn’t his fault, his telepathic powers didn’t reach beyond the planetary scale nevermind across planes of existence. “It’ll be fine I’m sure.” he said to the empty room. Glancing at the clock he saw it was 11:30 a.m. so it’d be several hours yet until Topaeo got back from work so he’d have to entertain himself for now. He looked down at himself to see the jeans and hoodie he was wearing…. Earthling clothes. Kansa was very… specific in how he liked to present himself visibly. However when just relaxing at home he sometimes dressed down although he’d get changed back before his housemate came home. Turning on the game console he grabbed the controller and started playing from where he’d last left off. As he played, and drank his tea of course, the Shinjin paused for a moment. Who’s Ki Signature was that? It had seemed familiar… ah well it was probably nothing. There always seemed to be people flying all over the place and fighting each other on this planet, apparently at some point in the past couple of generations the instruction had become more widespread. His attention was suddenly pulled straight back to the game as he entered the boss level. Whatever he’d sensed probably wasn’t relevant anyway. Imakai Kansa PL: 6,010 Active Transformations: None

”Leave of absence from my duties”, Imakai thought as she moved down the crowded sidewalk trying to get her bearings in this new environment. “More like a reassignment”, she internally amended considering the nature of her being on Earth. Having checked up on Kansa after Master Kashikoi alerted her to her supervisor’s lack of communication, she had witness the attack on Vegeta and discovered the reason for his silence. She had reported her findings, including the part about seeing refugees heading off in ships for Earth, and had received permission to seek out the Shinjin’s current location and status. Who knew what she would learn if and when she came to the end of her search? Whatever the outcome one thing was for sure, she was stuck here on Earth for at least another month before she could use her Kai Kai to return to the Department of Mortal Observation. As she navigated through the habitation of these Humans, her innate ability to sense energy aided her sense of direction. It would have been amazing good fortune to find him without a lengthy search upon arriving, but fortunately she had determination to keep going until she did. Days of wandering around passed in which she become familiar with the huge numbers of people living in such close proximity of one another and began fending for herself. A fruitless endeavor, save for the part about making her more anxious of finding Kansa. While she did locate some of the people, refugees from Vegeta, for all she could determine she was the only Shinjin on Earth. It was near reverse proficiency, this feeling of singularity, for at last she detected the familiar energy in contradiction to her growing anxiety. At last with a direction firmly planted in her mind, her sense of anticipation grew speeding her toward haste. Coming upon the dwelling where she knew with certainty Kansa was located, all manner of imaginings spurred her on. Had he been injured during the attack? Why didn’t he return home? Was he prevented against his will or had he chosen to remain with these Mortals? All the observances of etiquette she had witnessed while monitoring the Mortals was thrown out the window as she didn't bother to knock and wait for permission to enter. It was a silly custom and Kansa was no Human. Coupled with the imagining that he might be here without his consent, she threw open the door and just barged on in. The trouble with imaginings was that more often than not a person missed the mark by a long shot. Had she been here searching for weeks and been given time to concoct every possible scenario she may have walked in on, the one that greeted her would never have become manifest. For there, seated upon some sort of furniture was the Senior Civil Servant of the Mortal Observation Department and he was… using some sort of… was it a communication device he had rigged together from bits of this world’s technology? Standing there blinking at Kansa, taking in his attire and less than dire circumstances she felt a little stunned. At least he had acquired native costuming to fit in better. So many questions filled her mind but all she could do was utter his name questioningly, “Kansa”, she said even going so far as to shake her head to help her merge reality with her imaginings. “Are you alright?” Well, at least that is what she wanted to say but instead she blurted, “What in the twelve universes are you doing?” Kansa Imakia’s PL: 4,000 Active Transformations: None

Kansa had finally nearly defeated the final boss of Grim Spirits. It’d taken weeks but this was it! This was his hour! No longer would this damnable game stand in his way! Once done he’d never have to play the accursed thing again! Freedom was within his grasp! SLAM!The crashing of the door being thrown distracted Kansa enough that he momentarily lost his concentration and was killed. So horrified by this unfortunate turn of events the Shinjin just stared at at the message written across the screen. YOU DIED All that progress lost. Gone into the void. This was the closest he’d come in hundreds of hours of play time. Truly this was one of the greatest travesties to ever be visited upon a member of the Core Peoples. Finally, after a few moments, the familiar voice filtered through the dismay and he slowly turned to look at her. There in the doorway stood a woman a few inches shorter than he himself with a white mohawk draped over one side of her face. She was as aesthetically pleasing as might be expected from a race of divine beings. Kansa continued to stare into those grey eyes which carried the slightest emerald gleam for a long moment before speaking. “Junior Civil Servant Imakaimaka….” he said slowly with a slight tilt of his head. His voice came out it’s usual detached cold tones while the male Shinjin wore an expression to match “What are you doing in the Realm of the Living?”A slight frown creased his forehead. “Or rather what are you doing here in my home?”A few moments stretched out before he stared down at his attire. His expression turned from it’s usual stoicism to a look of sheer horror as the controller slipped from his grip. Staring down at the ground he slowly got to his feet as a blue Ki Aura momentarily flickered in and out of existence as he marched over to the woman. Standing over her the Ki slowly vanished as he stared down coldly at her, emotion gone once more. “Please wait outside Miss Imakaimaka.” he requested. Once she was gone the man’s shoulders slumped and he sighed miserably. How embarrassing! And off all the people to see him it had to be his subordinate. This was definitely one of the worst days. Getting changed into his usual clothes which were typical of their peoples from Kaishin. The clothes where somewhat reminiscent of a Manchu-style robe. Finishing off with tightening the dark yellow sash around his waist and putting on his earrings he went back towards the front door. The now properly attired Shinjin opened it and bowed slightly, low enough to be respectful but shallow enough to properly reference her lower rank in the Celestial Bureaucracy. “Please come in.”Walking her over to the sitting area he gestured at a seat. “Have a seat.”Picking up the tray he had used earlier he returned to the Kitchen although thanks to the open floor layout the two could still talk. As he began preparing more green tea, and at last having regained his composure, he finally decided to answer her question. “I am on a mandatory sabbatical at the moment due to Master Kashikoi’s wishes. I thought you knew that already Miss Imakaimaka, have you perhaps forgotten?”
He sniffed the air slightly. “Ah apologies by the way for that odd scent. I live here with a mortal being, one of those Sayians from the planet I was staying on.” Returning to the preparation of the tea he added “So what brings you here?” Imakai

Kansa’s reaction did more than stun Imakai, it completely seemed to counter her ability to speak, question, or object to a thing and she soon enough found herself back outside on the stoop. Standing there blinking like an idiot, she contemplated the situation. Clearly something had gone wrong with the device and a sinking feeling began to grow in the pit of her stomach. Had she inadvertently caused the failure of some crucial bit of equipment that would enable him to file his status update? Well, she was here and though he certainly didn’t need rescuing, something for which she was thankful to see, he could at least have been a bit appreciative of all the trouble her coming here must have accrued. Folding her arms over her chest, she leaned her back against the door vacillating between fuming silently and marching right back inside to take him to task. “His home”, she shook her head sighing and pushed away from her back rest to glare at the door. What was he thinking? This was not his home this was… Her eyes looked around having viewed this planet on numerous occasion during her lifespan. Why had he taken refuge here of all places? And what was up with him questioning her purpose in arriving to check on his status? Didn’t he realize that the attack on Vegeta would have been observed and that as such they would worry about him until they received word of his safety? She glared at the door wondering what was taking him so long until at last he opened it and beckoned her inside. It was with great restraint that she remained quiet, taking the seat he indicated, and waited for him to return from what appeared to be a place for preparing food. Although impatient by nature she was hardly suicidal and the last she would do was to rail at him or try to take him to task. The man was her supervisor after all and it was just not the sort of environment she wished to endure for the next 500 years. She could be stuck observing dead planets if she didn’t adopt the appropriate tone when at last she was permitted to speak. “No, Senior Civil Servant Kansatsusha. I have not forgotten your assignment. It was Master Kashikoi himself who gave me leave to search for you. He had voiced concern at…” and here she had to pause to keep negative terms out of her words, “... the lack of a field report and upon observing Vegeta in an attempt to ascertain your status I discovered the planet was under attack by the Arcosians.” She was rather proud her words had not been accusatory but just a retelling of the facts. And then she blew it with an emotional outburst. “I was worried sick something awful had happened!” As soon as the words were out of her mouth her eyes went wide at her own temerity for speaking so forcibly to her superior. Still, it was done and while he might be worried that the smell of his earthly dwelling, she refused to think of this place as his home, might give offense she had noted with a bit of annoyance that basically he had kicked her out of the house so he could change clothing! He paused in his work at the kitchen counter when his fellow Shinjin spoke. He was momentarily confused at her talk about assignments and reports before he realised that she seemed to believe he was here because of his duties. Well if so then it made sense why she would be displeased, he too would have been annoyed to find one of his colleagues negligent in their role within the Celestial Bureaucracy. ”I am afraid you might have been misinformed Imakaimaka.” he said turning to face her. “Saying I am here on assignment would be inaccurate as that implies that my purpose in visiting this realm was one of duty.”Returning back to the preparation of the tea he continued “I wish this were an assignment. Then there would at least be direction. Unfortunately this is simply the result of Master Kashikoi forcing me to leave my role within the department temporarily. The time I spend here is of my own choosing. I believe I have to search for something I've been missing all these years.”Kansa was almost finished the tea. He would apologise and send the woman on her way with a message for their Sifu. Then her outburst hit him with such force that he froze in his work. Why was she so mad? Glancing over his shoulder the bemused Shinjin caught her expression before the realisation sunk in. ”You idiot.’Sighing he finished his preparations and silently carried the tea tray over to the coffee table. Once he had done so he turned to look at Imakai. Suddenly he bowed deeply and retained the position as he spoke. “I am sorry for any worry I caused you or our teacher.” he apologised sincerely “Please forgive me Miss Imakaimaka”Straightening up he remained standing “I did consider the need to let Master Kashikoi know I had relocated to Earth after the attack but that would have meant using Kai Kai. If I did that then I’d have no way to return for a month.” he explained ”And that seemed to run counter to Sifu’s wishes for my time here. I did not fully… appreciate the trouble it might cause either of you”Kneeling at the other side of the table as if he was the female Shinjin’s attendant he poured her a cup of tea. In this act of contrition he had suddenly reversed their roles as senior and junior. He had never been particularly skilled in dealing with others or showing how he felt. This was the best he could do. ”My departure from Planet Vegeta had been necessary. There was a… complication during the invasion. It would not have been safe for me to remain there.” Kansa informed her softly. “There was also a mortal present. Once I discovered they were safe after the initial assault they wished for me to accompany them on the evacuation ship. At the time it seemed the correct course of action. It seems I did not consider all possibilities.” Imakai

Imakai had to pivot in her seat to make eye contact with Kansa as he busied himself with the tea preparations. Well, not actually eye contact, she was basically burning a hole in his back with her gaze as he prepared the brew. His methodically slow pace was a thing she had to endure on many an occasion, yet today it was born with an unusually high feeling of impatience. That he could calmly make tea while she was bursting inside to hear the tale of his adventure was nearly more than she could bare. It was at times like these that she had to draw upon her training with Master Kashikoi to tame her unbridled sense of anticipation. As he explained to her that his purpose in venturing to the Land of the Living was not a routine assignment, she inhaled slowly through her nose letting her eyes shut briefly before exhaling through parted lips. She knew very well why he had been given leave, for their sensei had actually discussed the matter with her seeking her opinion before he approached Kansa with the plan. This was not something she would share with her supervisor, however, for the elderly Shinjin to seek her thoughts on the matter had been slightly intimidating. If her Master thought this was a path that Kansa needed to embark upon, then who was she to poke holes in his plan? Although the concept of Kansa spending time with the Mortal Beings was a sound one, the thought being that up if he was up close and in person in their world he would gain a better understanding of their work… even empathy for their plight, she had her misgivings of what the effect would be should it actually work. How was he to cope with a sudden onslaught of emotion concerning all he had seen over the millennia? Placing her trust in Kashikoi as Kansa’s mentor, she relied on his better understanding and familiarity with the man in making this choice for his development. So when he claimed that this mission was not part of his duty, not a true assignment and so not subject to the regular protocols, she had to just bite her tongue to keep from objecting. After all, it was her thought that everything they did reflected duty in one form or another and personal growth certainly fit into that category. The look upon his face, the heavy sigh he released, and the turning back to his tea preparations unsettled her. Had he somehow picked up on her thoughts or was he just picking up on her impatience and reacting with his usual annoyance from such undisciplined behavior? Sometime she had to wonder about her assignment in his department and if there had not been some ulterior motive in placing herself, someone as opposite in personality from Kansa as one could be, under his supervision. At last he had completed his task and carried the filled tray with him back to the seating portion of the room. Preparing herself for yet another lecture, though that was a strong word for the advice and guidance he sought to give, she could not have been more surprised by his apology if he had picked up the tea and dashed its contents in her face. The emotion only increased when he actually knelt opposite her on the other side of the table, poured out her cup of tea, and handed it to her. She was honor bound to accept the cup, being only symbolic of his apology and to refuse would indicate she was unforgiving in her anger toward him. The she had felt no anger, only anxiety over his silence after evacuating Vegeta was a moot point. Listening to his explanation she learned, unsurprisingly, that his actions had been quite logical if you discounted one thing; it never occurred to him that anyone would have concern for his safety or be experiencing worry. Typical… With grave reverence for the significance of his gesture, she reached out with both hands to take the cup and cradle it between her fingertips on both sides. She returned his bow, a bit lower than the one he had performed as was respectful of his position of authority, and wordlessly brought the cup to her lips to sip but a small taste. With the ritual of acceptance performed, she set the cup upon the table and nodded her head. “I see. It is I who must apologize. It seems that this has all been just another side effect of my excitable nature. Had I taken the time to reason through the events, no doubt I would have come to the conclusion that you had everything well in hand.” True, and yet...she did feel better for having seen for herself rather than just wondering in light of his lack of communication. So now what? She was stuck here until the moon cycle should pass and let her return and make her report on her findings to Kashikoi. She would have to find accommodations for herself and a means of surviving until such time as she could quit the Earth. The name always made her prone to giggling inside, however. How pretentious and unoriginal Earth was. The Earth, when earth was on all planets somehow this was special? She chalked it up to the inherit pride and arrogance common among humans, though for all their advancements over the centuries she still found it amusing that they still had the practice of money in play. Humorous as though that may be to her, it was a problem she would have to face while living here over the next few weeks. She would think on that later as she had more important things to deal with, namely her curiosity. “So, tell me of this Mortal Being who’s smell fills the air…” Kansa

Kansa pushed himself to his feet and carefully smoothed the wrinkles out of his clothings before taking a seat next to the one his subordinate was sat upon. He glanced the woman over and decided that she had gotten over her initial emotional reaction while also seemingly having accepted his apology. Relaxing slightly he leant forward and topped up both their cups from the teapot before placing it back on the tray. Lifting the clay teacup he sipped at his drink and give a satisfied nod. Returning back to his usual temperament and once more appeared composed and, unintentionally, chilly. The Shinjin stared at Imakai before, perhaps surprisingly, giving her a slight smile. “There is no apology necessary. Your actions show benevolence and empathy Miss Imakaimaka, these are virtues to be praised, you are becoming a fine Shinjin and are beginning to show great equanimity despite your usual… excitability, I believe is how you put it.”Tapping a finger at the side of his cup he considered withholding the truth before sighing. His subordinate had come across planes to check on her superior due to her loyalty, dutifulness and compassion. He supposed he should tell her everything but to start with would be her last query. “An odd way to word your query but no matter.” he started sounding somewhat amused. “I share this simple abode with a Saiyan. It has not been entirely… easy but he is helpful in his own way. For one thing he’s the only person bringing any materialistic funds into this home and sadly such primitive things are necessary on this backwater world.”Sighing Kansa shook his head. He wasn’t being insulting, or at least that wasn’t his intent, the Shinjin was simply stating basic facts about how he felt about Earth. “His name is Topaeo, I met him on Planet Vegeta during my stay there before the attack. He was a gardener of the Palace Gardens, the Royal Botanist as it were and in the Saiyan Capital there were few places I felt relaxed aside from those Gardens. It was there I met him. After a relatively short while he had the audacity to claim we were friends but I allowed it, his gardens really were quite peaceful. Sometimes I assisted him and I think he was constantly surprised by our people’s natural aptitude at helping things grow. I preferred to rest under the sun than to assist him if I’m honest”Sipping at the hot green liquid he took a break from speaking as he tried to gather his thoughts. This was the part he’d rather not talk about but the fact was he didn’t want to lie to her and a lie of omission was still a lie nonetheless. “On the day of the attack by the Arcosians I attempted to simply observe. I was in the planet’s main city at the time…”The city burned around him. Screams echoed through the ruined streets. He flinched slightly as a woman’s terrified cries were suddenly cut off.“I remember thinking it was unfortunate. The Saiyans were making such strides towards becoming a better peoples, moving away from their warlike past into something better. I believe the Arcosian attack will undo much of that progress.” he continued with a slight tinge of sorrow in his voice. “It’s an endless cycle with these two races, I’ve seen it before. Conflict breeds conflict.”Shaking his head slightly Kansa sighed “Regardless… I was walking down a city when an Arcosian approached me. I believe he was trying to provoke me… I initially simply walked away. That race are capable of transforming to change their strength and he was in one of his weaker forms. I felt that I could handle him if he decided to assault me.”Something distracts him. He sees the Arcosian holding the terrified child. His hand rips through the boy’s chest. He screams in pain. The Arcosian sneers. The broken corpse lies there with blood dripping from it’s still form. Something within Kansa broke. He yelled something? He attacked it. He wanted to break it. Destroy it like it had done to the child. He had been… angry.“It was terrible…” the telepathic thought was sent directly into Imakai’s mind but Kansa didn’t even seem to realise it had happened. He simply stared into his tea with a slight frown creasing his forehead. Coming out of his thoughts he looked up at her but only met Imakai’s eyes for a short period of time before glancing away unable to meet her gaze. “His provocations eventually… succeeded. I temporarily lost myself. It was shameful.” he told her in a small voice, he had not even told Topaeo about the attack aside from simply calling it self-defence. “I-I hurt the Arcosian quite badly but I drew the battle out until he was tired by fighting efficiently. The time also helped me regain control. I tried to walk away but the fool attack me while my back was turned. At that point I knew the wretched creature was too filled with spite and loathing to get away from, if it had transformed it would have destroyed me. I had only managed to stop it transforming by pressuring it. So when I countered the attack I decided to execute it.” he finished. Unlike the previous statement there was absolutely no guilt in how this turned out. The creature had deserved death, it had dared attack a Shinjin despite the mercy Kansa had shown it even in light of it’s evil deeds. “Having already interfered to that degree I decided I had best go see if Topaeo had survived. I reached him and we boarded an evacuation ship. Eventually we ended up on Earth, Topaeo wanted to stay and I decided that this was as good a planet as any other to spend my time on this plane.” he finished. Continuing to drink at his beverage he waited for her response. What Kansa had done might be seen as a borderline breaking of the rules or utterly justifiable depending on who cast the verdict and although he’d never admit it out loud the senior Shinjin was curious what the woman’s opinion was. Thankfully Kansa got up off the floor, it was just not befitting his position relative to her own. Yet it was quite in keeping with his usual manner of seriousness and reserve when it came to issues her felt deserved to be respected. That only served to unsettle her further for it necessitated a level of understanding of the worry he had caused. A pure empathetic emotion? Followed by remorse? Perhaps this living among the mortals was working out better than Kashikoi had intended… No matter, she told herself. The Master is wise and I should not worry so. All is as it should be, and ever will be without end.It was a little something she recited to herself whenever she became excitable over something. Of course it worked much better after she had seen that Kansa was unharmed than it had back at the Observatory. Taking up a seat near to herself, she nods her head slightly looking in his direction with but a minor tilt of her face while he pour out more tea. Taking the cup to hand, she listened as he continued to speak further alleviating her concerns with his words of praise. He wasn’t stingy about praise whenever she had done something of particular note, but in this instance she felt it was not that big a deal. Of course she would come looking for him if he went missing. Wouldn’t everyone? It’s not like their kind grew on trees or anything… Oh, yeah. Her cheeks turned an odd shade as they blushed due to the combination of his praise and her innate train of thought. Suddenly she had a keen interest in the tea, sipping its contents slowly and taking time to savor its flavor. What she really wanted to know was about this strange mortal being. The opportunity to actually live with one of the mortals was an adventure she never thought to have; talk about your up close and personal in living color research project! Ah perhaps one day when she reached Kansa’s esteemed age she too would be given such an incredible opportunity for investigative studies. At last he began to speak and his words drew her rapt attention. Mouthing the man’s name silently her pulse quickened, A Saiyan of all things! She always thought they would make the most humorous pets. But could they be house broken? She could not help herself though as he continued to describe this particular individual, “A gardener?”, she breathed out with the tone of incredulity heavy in her voice. That was quite the find for such a war-like race. What a rare specimen! Naturally she knew the tale would take a turn toward the dark side, they had found themselves here due to the Arcosian attack after all, but as she knew this was just the relationship the Saiyans and Arcosians had with one another. Even with the foregone conclusion to his time upon Vegeta, it all seemed like an idyllic experience lounging around in the gardens of the Royal House and watching this curious Saiyan at work. She was more than a little envious but told herself it was only right that Kansa experience these things; he had earned it. She grinned slightly looking at Kansa slyly when he related the bit about Top--uh… the Gardener calling him his friend. “Ah…” she coo’d finding it cute. Of course this Saiyan would call him friend. Clearly he was not an idiot for who wouldn’t want to have such familiarity with a Shinjin? It must have made him the envy of all the other little Saiyans too. A frown crossed her features as Kansa stopped speaking for she was eager to hear about everything. The reason for his hesitation revealed itself soon enough. As he related the details of the attack the observer in her took charge while she attempted to put her emotional self in the background. It was becoming easier for her, but still...so much death and pointless waste...well, it naturally quelled her enthusiasm. Sipping her tea she watched his features as he relayed the details, he appeared to be his usual clinical self. She peered closer, or was he? It was terrible…, his voice was in her mind and the force of the emotion present nearly caused her to drop her cup. The more he spoke the greater her sense of unease grew, it was like he was talking about someone else entirely. This is what she had feared, but no. How could Master Kashikou have been so wrong in his choice to immerse Kansa in the Living World? True Kansa had done everything he possibly could to not interfere… once he had. What had happened to make him feel that great a need to act? No doubt had he shared more details that cup would have wound up on the floor in pieces. She bit her lip as she told of his shame, and the eventual killing of the warrior, and only when he was through did she speak. Setting her cup upon the tray she said, “It is acceptable to protect your own life, Sir. Is this not true?” They were not just platitudes but her true feelings, even so it was very out of character for Kansa, at least with respect to her impressions of the man. Wasn’t he also of the infallible elders within her people? She might not have questioned it so much had it been anyone else, but for him… it was a startling change in so short a time. Was that the point of his mission? To force him to crack that shell behind which he spent eternity? She could hardly fathom the wisdom of their master. All is as it should be, and ever will be without end. Kansa

Having set his unfinished cup of tea aside and placed his hands lightly upon his lap. Composed and in control of himself once more the Shinjin nodded slightly as he met Imakai’s eyes. “There is a certain latitude provided in special events. Although our kind rarely interacts directly with the living upon their plane there have been circumstances when we have been in danger due to the rash actions of mortals.” he informed her calmly. “As such it is likely that my actions, while regrettable, are considered permissible by our leaders.”Kansa sighed and glanced away. “However one must always remember Imakaimaka just because an act is allowed does not make it morally correct. As vile and evil as that Arcosian appeared to be the fact is that it was a living creature. I stole from it whatever short years that creature had remaining as well as taking it from it’s family.” he explained in the same even tones “If I had not been there it would not have occurred. Perhaps this is why our peoples should not interact with the beings of this universe until after their lives have ended… if at all.”Shrugging the Shinjin paused in thought. He pondered the nature of their kind, how they were destined to only watch and to never intervene unless a unique Universal threat was to arise. But was it right? For the longest time, about 11,000 years give or takes a few centuries, Kansa had been an Observer taking his proper place in the workings of things. He had never questioned it. Civilisations had rose and fell, entire worlds had become barren for all things eventually died, even stars burn out. Now though? He wasn’t so sure. He hadn’t quite realised it at the time, or at least he hadn’t been able to accepted it, but the issue was probably linked to the fact that when he’d seen the deaths on Vegeta firsthand. Usually Shinjin like Kansa watched all the atrocities of the Universe from afar and through that filter of distance they gained a certain level of remoteness and isolation from the evil they had to see. ‘And what about the good too?’ he thought to himself. ‘By protecting ourselves are we also distancing ourselves from the benevolence of the living?”If Kansa was higher ranked in the natural order of things perhaps he’d be considering a reformation of things with his fellow Supreme Kai but he was merely a Shinjin, amongst the least of their race. Should he bring up the question of their neutrality to Imakai? The fact he was even considering this brought a dark frown to his face. ‘What am I doing? It’s not my right… not my place to question such things.’He banished the heretical thoughts, it was not a Shinjin’s place to wish to be higher in the natural order. All was as it was meant to be by the Divine Wish of far greater powers than anything Kansa understood. Clearing his throat he decided to change the course of the conversation between himself and his subordinate. “So what about you Miss Imakaimaka?” he asked picking up his tea. “You can only use your Kai Kai once every month after all so you’re sort of stuck here.”Sipping at his tea he asked her again with mild curious “After all neither of us know anyone powerful enough to telepathically communicate across planes either here or back home. So it’s not as if either of us can ask for support from our superiors or Kashikoi.” Kansa commented idly. “So what is your plan? Did you arrange for one of the greater Shinjin to come who might be able to bring you back with their superior Kai Kai? Or perhaps you’ve simply arranged a place to stay with the necessary resources to procure food and all the other necessities.”Pausing thoughtfully the man tilted his head “Beware about picking which Earthling food you eat. Some of it looks nice but tastes quite horrendous.” Imakai

Imaki scratched the back of her head, clear discomfort crossing her features. “Well, I really didn’t plan things out that far in advance.” And Master Kashikoi didn’t bother to go over her arrangements with a fine tooth comb. Once again her impulsivity had caused her to run when she should have walked. No doubt the elderly Shinjin was just leaving her to learn these things on her own so the lesson would stick. She brightened though as an idea formed and she grew to view it as yet another adventure. “I could get one of those job things, like the natives do. Investigate the world of commerce and such. It should be fun.” Her observations had given her a certain familiarity with the world, but it was in her ability to interpret these findings to a proper conclusion that she often needed work. When he brought up the subject of food, she frowned. “I will do my best. I find the practice on this world of eating animals to be a nasty one.” From what she gathered a lot of work went into making it look nice too. Why they did that when there were so many plants to eat she would never know. Kansa

Grinning into his cup of tea Kansa let the moment stretch out for as long as possible while hiding his expression and letting the girl suffer for a few moments. The Shinjin sometimes took pleasure in these things but mostly because he knew that she was going to be okay. Forcing a serious expression he looked severely at “That is quite serious” he said with great severity “You will not survive on this world without some sort of accomodations.”
Tilted his head Kansa pondered her point. “You could try getting a job, I found it quite easy to get one myself although I don’t start yet for another few days.” he told her “You’ll have to find something that fits your skill set of course so perhaps something like…” he trailed off with a frown “Uhm… or maybe…” he began but stopped again. “Uhm… I’m sure you’ll think of something.” he finished lamely.
With the food topic however he Kansa just shook his head. “Just be careful. I’m not confident you’d identify the edible plant life of this planet.” he told her “You are a vegetarian? I was unaware.”
Most of their race were omnivores but just like many civilised races out there they had those who preferred to avoid eating meat.
Setting his cup back down Kansa folded his arms and pretended to consider something although he’d already made up his mind. “Well we have the unused office which could be converted to a bedroom I guess and quite a bit of outdoor space which I’m sure you’ll find enjoyable. By flight we can get to East City fairly quickly were you can seek out employment.”
Kansa smiled kindly at the younger Shinjin. “What do you think?”

Her hand rose, the index finger wedging a nail in her mouth next to the bottom canine, and worried through his words as he spoke. She had no idea that her very survival was such a precarious situation. She sighed as he continued bringing her up to speed. At least finding a job would not be so bad. Shifting in her seat to face him more fully, she looked hopeful and full of anticipation. Both hands clasped in her lap, she waited with breathless anticipation.
She could...yes? Oh, well...her shoulders sagged slightly. Or maybe? She lifted up once more, her lips parted slightly as though she could coax the words from his mouth...ah no. Frowning she wondered didn’t he think she could do anything? Before she could ask he switched back to the food problem. She was seriously going to have to be careful.
As the great adventure began to take a darker twist in her mind, she clenched her lower lip between her teeth and gazed over the room. His question drew her from her thoughts as she looked back to his face, “Oh well...yes. I mean.” He would think her silly but, “they run around, have families…” She laughed and flicked the tail of her mohawk out of her eyes with the back of her hand.
He had crossed his arms over his chest and was looking as though something was mulling around in his mind. What was he saying? “What, here?”, her features visibly brightened as that would take a lot of the uncertainty out of her predicament. “Oh that would be great!” She rose to her feet and said, “Can I see it? Show me!” Her own room just like that? She looked around in search of this mysterious unused office.

Kansa took such an undue amount of satisfaction in Imakai’s discomfort that he frankly began to actually feel bad and wanted to help ease her worries. “It will all be fine Imakai. You should enjoy your time in this realm.” he stated kindly trying to put her at ease.
Leaving his cup sitting on the table the senior Shinjin stood smoothly from his sitting position. “Certainly Imakaimaka.” he assured her, as time went on he was subconsciously dropped the prefix of Miss more and more often. “Please follow me.” he requested.
Walking across the room Kansa moved down the corridor “Where you walked in was the open planned living room and kitchen, obviously. There is a door off to the side…” here he gestured to the door at the immediate left as he entered the corridor “which is the bathroom. On down the corridor is the office.” he assured her as walking down narrow hall. Reaching the end where there was a door and stairwell the Shinjin gestured up towards the next floor. “There are two bedrooms up there belonging to the Saiyan I spoke off, Topaeo and I.” he informed her.
Pulling open the door he stepped into the office. It was a decent sized room with a table sitting at one side upon which rested an old unplugged T.V. Aside from a futon sitting in on the floor in one corner the room was empty. “Many of the homes I have seen use these as traditional forms of bedding which consist of mattresses and a duvet.” he stated “Although Topaeo and I procured ourselves more ordinary beds as we know it. If you find you prefer that sort of furniture then I can get you one after we have saved the Zeni for it, the money that these Earthlings exchange for goods and services.” he stated although he went quiet for a few moments. “I guess however that will likely be unimportant as you shall only be here for a month at most.” he added with a slight shrug.
Gesturing for her to explore the room he give a slight smile. “As I said it is rather vacant at the moment, we do not use this room at all but I have kept it as tidy as possible. Please enter and have a look around.” he stated stepping out of the doorway with a gesture for her to walk around.
“You and I can decorate this room however to make it more suitable to your tastes. Even if you are only here for weeks we should make your place of rest as comfortable as possible.” he added.
Adopting a severe expression Kansa stared coldly at the woman. “I do expect you to do something for me however in exchange for this hospitality…” he stated emotionlessly however after a few long moments which he give her to worry about the request the man smiled again “I would request that you be my training partner. It has been some time since I have had someone to spar with. Topaeo is no fighter although I am hoping to change his mind when it comes to this, I am rather worried about him. He has some power but he lacks the ability to apply it. With the coming war between his people and the Arcosian led forces I worry he might get caught up in it whether willingly or not.”

Imakai’s worries were easily put to rest with the offer of the room to stay in while she was here on earth. The emotion had been replaced by the desire to see this new space and she quickly moved to follow Kansa down the hall as he gave her a little tour. Glancing back up the hallway as he mentioned the living room/kitchen combo, she grinned over the silly habit of checking her backtrail. The place was not so large that she was likely to get lost, after all.
As he directed her attention to the door at the head of the hall, her lips forming a little ‘O’ of delight. “Oooh, a bathroom. How convenient.”, she commented as her hand reached for the door knob. Kansa did not pause in the tour long enough for her to check it out, but rather moved on to his main objective so she would look around in there later. The list of things to explore was steadily growing as he pointed out the stairwell and spoke of the bedrooms upstairs. She just grinned and nodded glad that her room would be on the same floor as the bath.
Stepping into the office she looked around with a bright expression upon her face. “Ohhh, and all of this space is mine?” It really wasn’t much of a question but more like a statement of disbelief. Imakai hadn’t really considered being a property owner upon making the journey to Earth but the idea was growing on her. She went to the futon and let her hand smooth over the duvet, playing with the zipper on the covers to slide her hand inside. “It’s very soft and puffy Kansa”, she removed her hands and closed up the zipper once more as he spoke about decorations and Zeni. What sort of work would she do anyway to earn some of this Zeni?
Of course Kansa drew her back to reality with the reminder of the limitation of her visit here. Thirty days was not a lot of time to do and see everything that she wished to. And of course there was so much here that she wasn’t even aware of to add to her list of things to do. At least the room was, as he put it, tidy and she saw that it came with her own TV so she could keep up with the historical documents. “Thirty days”, she sighed knowing it was going to be hard leaving when the time came.
Her eyes moved from the TV to Kansa as he spoke about payment, “Oh? Well certainly, I will be happy to train with you sir.” She studied his face as he spoke of his worries, actually plotting to change the Saiyan’s mind. The revelation kind of took her by surprise; was he changed so much already? Either the land of the living was dangerously potent or this Topaeo was a unique individual. Perhaps both, for surely she found this world to be breathtaking and for certain she had never viewed a Saiyan who was anything but warlike.
What was it that Kansa could possibly have experienced to make such a huge change in such a short time? She recalled his words in her mind from earlier and shivered. The man was nearly 12 times her own age and had quite a few more observations than herself. What hadn’t he seen during his lifetime? Did she want to even know what had been so terrible compared to all of that to make him actually worry, let alone interfere over some mortal being? She had to know, it would keep her up all night otherwise. “Kansa, what makes this Saiyan so special to you?”

Kansa smiled slightly at Imakai’s sheer pleasure in exploring the room although it was such a small thing at the end of the day. The thought that’d he leave her to fend for herself was laughable to the senior Shinjin, she was his subordinate and a fellow child of the Kaiju, he could never abandon her in such a fashion. Back on Kaishin this house would have been a paltry building in comparison to the abodes that his people resided in. That she could be so pleased brought joy to his heart. Small simple things.
He give a soft laugh as she began inspecting the futon. “I’m glad to hear it.”
His smile faded slightly as she mentioned thirty days, her limit on this realm, and considered how sad she seemed. Imakai was the complete opposite of Kansa himself. She wished to be here where as Kansa was lamenting his forced vacation with the mortals and would rather be back at work, whilst he could technically return to his homeworld there would be nothing to do there without being allowed to return to his Observing.
Returning his mind back to the woman he nodded slightly. “We’ll begin training tomorrow morning with the usual routines. I hope that if we can afford it Topaeo and I shall eventually be able to build a dojo… who knows how long I’ll be stuck down here, might as well make myself comfortable.” he informed her.
Again the Shinjin’s mind began to wander, this time to the design patterns he had already began formulating in his mind for their future dream Dojo when Imakai’s question knocked him back to reality and the elder Observer looked utterly confused by the question.
“Because… he’s my friend.” he told her with a slight tilt of his head “Why else?”
The quiet moments after he finished speaking stretched out as Kansa simply stared at the woman before he glanced away. “Please come with me.” he requested as he turned and left the room.
Entering the hallway he Imakai back out the front door into their well kept and beautiful front garden with it’s numerous flower beds.
“This way.” he added walking around the side of the house. Leading her around the side he glanced over at the seemingly endless fields that surrounded the isolated home. Kansa’s continued however towards the back garden with his hands clasped behind his back as he calmly led her towards their destination, moving slowly, as if he had all the time in the world. Well technically that wasn’t far off for the Shinjin considering their people’s lifespans.
Pushing open the garden gate he led her into a fenced off area directly behind the house. Stepping aside he waved her into the rear garden.
Before them lay dozens of flowerbeds, not only far more numerous than those out front but also of a seemingly infinitely greater variety. Beautifully trimmed hedges surrounded the garden hiding the man made wooden fence with nature to allow visitors to become more entranced and allowed themselves to get lost in the garden's allure. To one side upon a pond where a number of water lilies floating along the surface. A small gravel path ran artfully through the garden so that one could easily navigate without being forced to trample any of the flora. To one end was a small pavilion within which one could drink their tea while sheltered from the sun.
“He did all of this.” Kansa told her after allowing her the time to take in the sight. “He was the Royal Botanist, the head gardener for the Royal Palace on Vegeta, and that was his life. It was his passion, his everything. Then he lost it all when the Arcosian fleet attacked.”
Kansa let his eyes run across the beautiful sight. “Can you imagine?” he asked “Your whole life you study, work and advance to a position that you love despite the fact it earns you nothing but disgust and mockery from your own people. When you reach that position you create something that all can gaze upon, something to make those who sneered at you regret their cruel words. Then you lose it all. So what do you do?” he paused and frowned faintly “I believe I would give up. Lose myself in self-pity. I doubt I could climb back from the loss of all that I was.”
He gestured at the flowers. “Topaeo did not. He created something to remind him of what he had and something he could care for in it’s place. He was thrown down so he simply climbed back to his feet… how? From where can a mortal find such strength? Such unbreakable will?” he glanced at her and smiled “That is not rhetorical. I do not know the answer. There is a strength in these short lived beings that I don’t think any of our kind quite fathom.”
Looking back at the girl Kansa’s smile grew warmer.”Topaeo is special to me because he is my friend. He is my friend because he is different from his fellow Saiyans. However Topaeo is special beyond simply reckoning. I believe he will go on to do great things.“
His smile faded slightly, his visible happiness becoming subdued. Yes he did believe Topaeo would do great things he just hoped that his thirst for vengeance didn’t mean those great things were something that could ruin the respect Kansa held for the man.
