HOT COCOA AND SUMMER STORMS | Ramen's PL: 50,000 |
The fire crackled in the hearth as the innkeeper tossed another log on. He reached over to pick up the fire iron, using it to jostle the hot coals around to keep the flames alive. It was enough to keep the little inn warm, even as harsh winds plastered against the shutters for a repetitive, rhythmic tapping against the windows. Of course, even as townsfolk gathered around their tables with drinks ranging from hot cocoa to warm, cinnamon liqueurs, gusts of cold wind would routinely blow into the inn and bring a sudden chill over the otherwise comfortable setting -- whenever a new customer opened the door in search of their own shelter.
This time, that chill was brought by a woman wearing a heavy jacket and earmuffs. She was well-dressed for the cold, but she wasn't dressed for a winter storm. She hadn't quite realized that the storms would persist this far into the summer months, even with Jingle Village's reputation for constant snow. Her cheeks were bright red from the cold wind against her face and her red hair was covered in now-melting snow. After shaking her hair out by the door, she hurried over to the bar. The innkeeper returned from the fire, settling against the counter on the opposite side.
"Can I get some coffee?" Ramen asked, managing a small smile. "... and put some of that--" she pointed up towards a bottle of liquor. "--in it too, if you will."
After receiving her drink, Ramen spun around on her chair to watch the other patrons in the inn. Most seemed to be your average, every-day villagers. But she had heard rumours as she had traveled here, rumours of strange threats brewing in the north. After encountering what seemed to be a World Trade Fleet scout here once before, she rushed back with the expectation of facing some newfound threat. Instead, she was met with a nasty storm and a frozen face.
Maybe the rumours were baseless. But she was here now, so she would just have to make the most of it. She glanced over her shoulder to the innkeeper, who had now busied himself with cleaning out some returned mugs. "Hey -- you hear anything about... I don't know, monsters or aliens or shapechangers or anything like that around here? I was thinking you guys were in some kind of trouble."
The innkeeper looked back with a confused expression. "I think you were out in the cold too long."
Small open! Feel free to show up to talk, cause trouble, complain about the weather, fire laser beams at villagers, whatever you want.

He didn't know why he was going to bar's so much. He had been going to different bars to find Taiko but at the same time, he had been trying to find him. That being his goal for the past couple of days. Just finding him and stopping him. Seeing as he could be quite evil. It was cold though. He had seen him first in the north so maybe he headed north. Perhaps they heard of him. Perhaps not. It was worth the trouble at the very least. Every life he could save the better. No one deserved to die, even those who were bad people in their core. He'd arrived in the village seeing the tavern nearby. He headed there entering the building feeling the heat consuming him. Much better than outside. He'd rather not be a frozen demon. He much preferred a warm and comfy one.
When he arrived looking around for where to sit. There seemed to be a couple of people at the inn. It felt like a homy place which was good. He'd walk over to the person who was at the bar in a heavy jacket and earmuffs. She seemed to be traveling too. She seemed to be asking if they had seen Monster alines of shapeshifter. Just something odd to the common person to the more enlightened they were truths. Course that was sorta what he was doing. On the hunt for an alien. Perhaps she was looking for the same person. Either way, it was good to exchange info. If she knew something he wanted to know about it. He took out his paper and pen as he began to write down what he wanted to say. He flipped the paper over and passed it to Ramen so she could read it. "My name is Sesame, I am looking for an Alien myself. He has two horns on his head and is scarred on the face. You happen to see someone like that." The paper had written on it. He hoped Ramen knew who this was.

HOT COCOA AND SUMMER STORMS | Ramen's PL: 50,000 |
Ramen took a sip from her drink, swishing the liquid around out of boredom. She was beginning to get the suspicion that the rumours she had been chasing here were entirely for naught. But harsh conditions were always good for training, so maybe, just maybe, she could make good on the time she’d spent coming here by taking to the storm outside. Her Multi-Form technique ensured she was never for want of a sparring partner, at the very least. But it was so warm in here, and so cold out there… she frowned, looking towards the shut windows thoughtfully. Perhaps she would spend a little more time in here, get to know the locals, and then--
Her train of thought was interrupted when a man sat down next to her. She turned around to face him, narrowing her eyes. He looked a little… odd, to say the very least, but he certainly didn’t seem hostile. She cleared her throat and offered a quiet nod in greeting, before looking back down to her drink. At first, she assumed he was just a little unfriendly. After all, he sat right next to her and didn’t say a thing. But eventually, he slid a piece of paper over with a message scrawled atop it. Taken aback, she picked up the paper and held it forward into the light to read.
“An alien with two horns and a scar?” she read aloud, wrinkling her nose as she tried to recall such an individual. He might have been the individual rumoured to be here, but then, she couldn’t be sure. There were so many aliens around these days. Heck, the man next to her sort’ve looked like one himself. She offered the piece of paper back with a shake of her head. “I can’t say I’ve ever met someone exactly like that. I’ve seen a couple Arcosians with horns, but none of them with prominent scars. But -- maybe we can ask around. What sort’ve scar are we talking about? A cut across the eye, dueling scar on the cheek, something else? Lots of flavours of face scars to go around.”

Sesame looked at Ramen as she read what he had written down for her. She didn't seem to know who he was talking or in this case writing about. He'd nod along as she had seen aroscians with horns but none with scars. He decided to explain better what he looked like. He grabbed another piece of paper writing down what the man looked like. He had that missing blank eye. Those red horns. Blue skin tone. His other eye was yellow. Had that one horn that was semi-broken. So that was what he wrote down. While he was doing that he saw the bartender walk over. He grabbed a piece of paper stopping his writing about his piece of paper. He flipped the paper writing on the piece of paper, "If you got any alcoholic beverage can I get one." It said.
He then focused back on describing who Taiko was. He quickly wrote down all the details before passing the paper back to Ramen. He decided that he prob should explain why he was looking for this person. Afterall, if she knew that maybe if she did know something she'd be more willing to tell him what she knew. He scrapped the paper rewriting everything with why he was looking for him in the start. It took him a bit to write it down of course. Once he finished, however, he flipped the paper passing it to Ramen so she could read it. "While I don't know who he is, he is dangerous. When I meet him we got into a fight and he wounded me. He kills people, hence why i'm hunting him to try and change him for the better. He is a blue alien with what seemed to be blind in one eye. Another eye is yellow. He has two red horns one that is shorter than the other. He has an acute power with telekinesis." Now to wait and see what she knew.

Ramen lidded her eyes as she considered the description further. Any hope she had of lining that up with a particular face vanished when he got into the details: blue, blind in one eye. One yellow eye. Two red horns, one shorter than the other... she clicked her tongue, committing the details to mind. While she hadn't encountered him thus far, there was a chance she might at some point in the future. The world was a big place, but not so when it came to individuals with higher levels of power. Basic energy sensing would see to that.
"I can't think of anyone that meets that description. I'm sorry. Do you know their name? I can try to look for them at some point in time, see if I can't uncover something. If he's a killer, then it falls within my jurisdiction. I'm an, uh --" she paused a moment, considering. She wasn't really a hero, and she certainly wasn't law enforcement. Finally, she settled on her title with a little nod. "I'm a martial artist, and that means it's my duty to punch bad guys in the face. Uh, in a protect-the-world kind of way. But--"
"I mean, I get the idea of wanting to turn someone away from their path, but be careful with that, yeah?" she turned back to her cup of alcoholic-cocoa, taking a brief sip. "I share that impulse, I think. But people can take advantage of it too, so just... watch your back."

Sesame sighed, She didn't know who that was. She asked for a name. He put a hand to his chin. He wishes he knew his name. It'd make things so much easier. Then if she meets a person named that she'd know. She explained she was a martial artist. That explained why she was hunting for monsters to fight. He nodded. He wrote on a piece of paper showing it to her, "Yes I am a martial artist as well." It had written on it. He'd click his fingers together. She wanted to protect the world that was good. At least she was a good person. He was glad he was telling this to someone who if they got the chance would stop Taiko. She then noted that while it was good to help people they may take advantage. He frowned, while he knew it was true he didn't want to think about that.
Sesame did know it was possible though. Taiko may just continue to use him. Not try and take his advice. What then? If would not become good what would he do then? He didn't want to think about it. He just hoped he'd be changed if the had someone to help him. He remembered it was jarring. To try and become this better person. It had taken a lot of adjustment and a lot of restless nights thinking of what he used to be. Eventually, he became who he was now. Trying to help others with the same problems as he had. He'd write down on a piece of paper, "So what do you do. You said your a martial artist but is that all you do." It started as his drank came. It was a bottle of bear. He drank down a bit before looking back at Ramen.

After receiving two more messages written across paper, Ramen couldn't help but forward the burning question in her mind. She scritched her finger along the second paper illustratively. "I have to ask. Why do you need to write everything down? I mean... I guess you can't talk and all that, but you could probably find some kind of technology to help you overcome that, right? Maybe from something like Capsule Corp or Crop Co," she rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "I mean, not that this doesn't work itself. But uh..."
She took one last drink from her cocoa, finishing the rest of it and setting the empty mug on the counter. She flashed a smile to the bartender when he looked over to see if she needed a refill, but she ultimately shook her head. She was going to pace herself tonight, especially if she was drinking a sugary, sweet form of alcohol. She looked back to Sesame, taking another look at the second piece of paper to remind herself of his question. "Oh--" she looked up to him. "I mean, it kind of is all I do. I mean, I have hobbies and such, but as far as a profession goes? Nope. Fighting is all I have like that. I didn't go to college or anything like that, so my most bankable skill is throwing punches."

Ramen asked him a good question about why he didn't speak and also pointed out if it was because he could not talk. He put his hand to his chin. Perhaps he could get that tech to try and fix his neck. At this point, he felt it was a fitting punishment for what he had done. A sound demon who could not control his voice. He had to hold onto his sound with every waking moment waiting to release it. It made each breath have more meaning. It also made sure he remembered what he uses to do. Would he forget? Say he had paid his duos and live his life for himself. He could easily just flee into the shadows after that. He didn't think he was ready to be blessed with the ability to speak again. At least normally.
Sesame grabbed a piece of paper and began to write something down. It was going to take him a little bit seeing as he had a lot to explain to her. Even if it was just the basics. It would prob explain why he was doing what he did. He'd finally finishing writing down what he wanted to tell Ramen. He'd pass it along. "I can talk. I was wounded when I use to be a bad person. Because I am a sound demon that causes a couple of complication with a throat wound. If I talk normally I cannot control my voice. I'd prob bust the bar on accident. For my crimes in the past though i'm content to be this way. So I don't forget." The paper had written down. Hopefully, that explained enough. He'd rather not go into the details in a bar where everyone could see. He still tried to keep a secret who he was.
He'd get a drink of the beverage he had bought. She talked about how she was just a fighter. That was her job. He almost laughed about that. That was basically what he was at this point. Didn't pay as well people would think. Fighting monsters and saving people was heroic but it was not always a good way to stay afloat. At least he had not any success. Maybe she did but he didn't. She did note she had hobbies but punching things were the only way she was going to be making money. He'd write on the same piece of paper. "Yeah, kinda in the same boat. Demon realm you're born into a caste to do certain things. Mine was fighting." He'd look at her smiling a bit.

She nodded quietly upon reading his explanation. Ordinarily, the word 'demon' would be enough to make her rather suspicious of the man. The only other demon she had much experience with was that strange creature that attempted to destroy the Lookout. But, while this man claimed he used to be a bad person, he seemed on the level now. She turned back to the bartender and waved him down with an apologetic smile. "Can I actually get something else?" she stood up on the frame of her chair to peer over at the bottom shelf. "The cinnamon whiskey would be nice," she decided before she sat back down, reaching into her pocket to slip out a few zeni to pay for the drink up-front.
She took a moment to read the second note before offering a faint nod to the apparent demon. "I can't say it was anything quite as restricting as a caste on my end. I was sort of thrust into it by circumstance, and then as time rolled on, it became less circumstance and more... need? Desire, maybe. I caught the bug, so to speak, and now I just really want to punch things around. Y'know?"

Sesame sat on the table as Ramen was getting another thing to drink. Sesame drank even more of his drink. He'd look back at Ramen. She seemed to have a strong build. He could not sense ki but he just had to assume. If she felt she could fight demons then she must have been at least capable. He'd turn to Ramen as she noted what he asked in the second note. She had been thrusted into certain circumstances. That bascailly lead to her becoming a martial artist. That was basically what he got out of the conversation. He grabbed a piece of paper but then paused. He'd snap his fingers together forming a small bubble around them. Perhaps talking since they were getting into his conversation would be good. He could spare some sound. He'd put a hand to his throat. He was not a hundred perhaps what to say and how to start it. Maybe just saying hi again. He'd wave, "Yo." He spoke the sound bouncing off the barrier and back in.

Ramen raised an eyebrow when she noticed the bubble forming around his fingers. It wasn't exactly how she was used to people speaking, but she managed a smile when she actually heard his voice. "Oh, that works!" she said with a little nod, only turning when the bartender brought over her requested cinnamon whiskey. It was evidently a strong drink, given the cinnamon scent was rather evident even where Sesame was sitting. She took a small drink, wrinkling her nose and fighting off a cough at its harsh taste. "-R-Right, anyways..." she set her glass down for now. "I know this might not be the kind of topic you would want to go over in a place like this, but if you need to conjure up bubbles like that to talk, because of some past crimes--"
She frowned, hesitating a moment. It wasn't a polite question, but her curiosity soon won out. "Well, what kinds of things did you do? I mean, it's none of my business, but you mentioned it and I can't help but wonder..." she spun her nearly-full glass around idly by the rim, nearly spilling a bit onto the table. An idle gesture done more out of worry he might react poorly than anything else. "... I fought a demon of sorts before. Well, more like, I watched other people fight it while I fought a giant ape, but... yeah. I'm curious."

Sesame finished the beer. He was starting to get a little drunk. He was not lightweight but he was not a heavyweight either. He not really drank in a long bit. Ramen asked a question he was sorta of dreading. What he used to be. Sesame looked at Ramen. He was drunk enough to talk. Plus they were both fighters. Maybe he could bend the truth a little too. He Hy'cuped a bit before grasping his head. Memories poured back. Bad ones, he could still see there faces. It was something he never got used too. The dead bodies and there faces. Whether peaceful or in fear they always left a pit in his stomach and he could remember every single one. He didn't hide his discomfort as he sighed. At least no one else would hear them.
Before he went to speak she noted she had fought a demon before. He raised an eyebrow to that. He meets a couple of demons. She then changed it to mean she had watched a fight with a giant monkey and a demon. He nodded, that didn't make much sense to him. Giant Monkey? He rubbed his hair, he still had to answer Ramen question. He was still trying to piece together how to put it. It was never easy to tell someone he used to be an assassin. "I was born into a family that had been doing there duty for hundreds of years. A family of assassins. I was trained to become one. Fight and kill for there cause, for money. I did kill people and i'm not proud of that. I know when my time comes i'll have a nice comfy spot waiting for me in hell. I, in fact, can't wait. I want to see everyone I killed. I want to beg for there forgiveness. Even if some of them we bad people. That why I hunt for bad people. To help them to not take the path I did or if they did change for the better before it is too late. Before they become nothing but a husk."

Ramen frowned at the explanation, but nodded along in silence. It was a lot to take in all at once, and it certainly provided her some insight to the man's motivations. Certainly, he seemed to have a better reason for doing all of this than she herself did. After a moment, she lifted her glass to him and offered a solemn nod. "... You turned off the path that was chosen for you. Keep doing what you're doing and making amends, and I have faith that when the time comes, you'll have a better fate than to be sent to hell."
She rested back in her chair for a moment, frowning. "Besides. I'm sure hell isn't even all that bad. There's probably a lot of partying down there. Maybe you can get a special permit or something to see the people that you fought before and ask to forgive them that way or something. I dun'no how it all works 'cause I've never been dead, but I'm sure there's some kind of fairness to the universe."

Sesame smiled as Ramen told him that it was really good he had gone down a path to become a better person. Despite coming from a life that was not easy. Still, he had been a bad person. Two years of good didn't wash out the first fifty. They were small watermarks on an evil life. He looked back as he raised his hand passing some money as he got a second drink. He was going to need it prob. She began to talk about how hell may not be that bad. "I hope it is. I deserved to be there. I just hope the others who are bad people are there as well. I want to rest knowing i'm where I belong." He said sipping some of his second beverage down.
She also talked about maybe there were ways to talk to the people you killed asked for there forgiveness. He frowned, while that may be true if he got their forgiveness. Would he forget if he was forgiven? That was one of the things he worried about. Would he forget what he had done, not suffer for what he had done? He felt it only fair in the fairness in the universe to feel the weight of his sins on him for all existence. Perhaps one day he'd learn to forgive but only when he had written all his wrongs. Untill then, he could forget. He smiled back at Ramen, "Yes perhaps there is. Maybe I will be forgiven. All I can do though as long as I live is to do better. Try and make the world a better place. A day at a time."

Ramen frowned to herself for a moment, letting her gaze fall into her own drink. As much as she wanted to think there was something pleasant waiting in the afterlife, he might be right. Hell might just be... well, hell. She bit down on her lip before shaking her head. "No, I have to think it's not that bad," she insisted, though her voice betrayed some uncertainty. "... My brother was a criminal all his life, but he was a good person to me. I'd like to think he met a good fate, even if I know he'd probably end up in the worse half--" she thumbed her drink thoughtfully. "I mean. I'm not even sure I would make the cut for heaven. I fight mostly bad people, and I don't like causing undue pain generally speaking, but--"
She shrugged. "I mean, my greatest motivation isn't all that righteous. I set off on my quest for revenge, but it's -- a long story. I stuck on it because I wanted to fight and gain power. So although I'm a good person, am I really as good as someone on a quest for redemption like you?"
She shook her head, leaning against the bar on her elbows. "I'm not so sure."
