The ASPIS has a fairly standard, angular mech design, with two prominent legs capable of traversing a variety of forms of terrain, one arm with a long-range cannon attached to it capable of firing advanced lasers that intentionally replicate the ki blasts formed by some of the world's most powerful martial artists. Its other arm is in the form of a fist, allowing for grasping and even punching in the midst of a fight. A pair of rocket launchers have been built into its shoulders, primarily for use against hard targets. This design almost comes with a pair of wings intended to assist with flight, which is enabled by jets concealed within its legs. It is coloured a vibrant blue with white racing stripes.
History
At first glance, the ASPIS appears to be like any other modern mech design. Advanced and powerful with an array of weaponry, but with a somewhat bulky design necessitating the use of modern technology to overcome the limitations brought on by its weight. Created five years ago to serve as an auxiliary unit to assist the now defunct Lancer program, which saw the 'creation' of Phalanx herself, it has spent the better part of those five years offline in an abandoned military facility. Its primary intended focus would be to provide support to the Lancers once they were deployed as an individual team, piloting itself through the installation of its own AI. Given its creator, Dr. Lagerr, was notorious for scraping together bits and pieces for his creation, it should be no surprise that the AI that ASPIS runs is far from streamlined, and appears to have been created out of the code of an entirely different machine. As a result, it can't quite run at optimal levels on its own.
In some respect, this makes ASPIS and Phalanx a natural match. Both share a creator and a supposed purpose, but both are mired with a series of glitches and errors courtesy of their patchwork creations. After activating ASPIS, Phalanx was surprised to find herself speaking on a personal level to what she had assumed was a piece of military machinery with no mind of its own. Although ASPIS is only borderline sentient, capable of forming its own thoughts but lacking something closer to actual emotion, it does have enough of a mind of its own to want to struggle towards Lagerr's ultimate goal of protecting Earth from threats within and without. As a result, the two formed something between a friendship and an alliance, agreeing to stand on guard while also searching for fixes and improvements for their considerable software and, in ASPIS' case, hardware malfunctions.
Though ASPIS can operate independently, with Phalanx on the scene, the most effective arrangement has seen Phalanx actually piloting ASPIS and handling its movement and shielding functions, while ASPIS focuses solely on targeting and firing its weapons systems.
Techniques
Offensive
[N1] Heavy Repeating Laser: ASPIS fires its main cannon, releasing a bright blue laser that strikes in heavy, repeating blasts against its target. This is intended for usage against hard targets, such as other mechanical units, but due to their strange toughness has also proven effective against martial artists and powerful aliens. Deals 33% PL damage.
[N1] Anti-Air Missiles: Some enemies can fly faster than ASPIS! Luckily, it's equipped with a solution to this. This salvo of missiles can't lock-on, but by firing a veritable barrage, they can cover enough sky to make a direct hit with at least one or two fairly likely. This can also be turned against ground targets, but ASPIS will refuse to do so due to programming restrictions. This will only change if Phalanx overrides these restrictions manually. Deals 33% PL damage.
Support
[SU1] Detach Component: Some pieces aren't as valuable as others! With this ability, ASPIS can pivot to take an attack with one of its less important pieces, jettisoning what remains of it after it's been destroyed. This allows it to survive in fighting condition against attacks up to 100% of its PL. This technique uses 1 KP in KP Battles. (Flavoured Afterimage)
Transformations
+x3T: Overclock Systems (Overdrive)*
*This can be improved to +x4T by the Android minion trait.
