The small girl staggered to a crouch near one of the crumbling walls. Damage from battles, fighting, and other elements had broken and scattered the brick structures into various piles that littered the nearby ruins. She clutched her head, as images, power-levels, and a maelstrom of other information barraged her mind. Her partner wasn't able to understand the level of pain it was causing her, simply doing its primary job and scouting. The redesign in structure hadn't changed its inability to multi-task; when given one directive, the AI poured 120% of its abilities into that directive.
A pained cry slipped through her lips, as she slipped to her knees in the rubble. Her hands trembled and gripped fiercely at her black locks, as the girl struggled to maintain her consciousness through the painful flow of information. Landing in the city had been a severe mistake; the sudden influx of information forced the AI to overclock its processors and thus effect the small girl severely. Her gaze shifted between the ground and a view of the entire city, glowing dots symbolizing the various people strolling through its midst. Two dots neared her, weak in comparison, as her gaze shifted back to reality. Throwing herself against the wall in an attempt to whirl on the two figures, the girl tried to figure out who had dared to approach her.
“Dear child, are you okay? It's going to be alright! Once we've stopped Chamil, we'll ensure the city is put back into the light where it belongs!” The human wearing a ridiculous outfit walked past the girl, ensuring the perimeter was clear. His voice was firm but confident, a foolish confidence born from an ignorance he would pay for. His partner knelt next to Amber, pulling out a medical kit from the bag at her side.
“Is it a headache? I have medicine that can ease your pain. Were you hurt by criminals or the affected?”
Amber's lips shifted into a smile, as she muttered a small phrase.
“WRAITH...shift into COMBAT.”
Her shadow seemed to rise out of the ground, as a being with a white, empty gaze hovered over her shoulder. The woman tried to shout a warning, but the being of darkness grabbed her by the face and slammed her into the rubble. As rocks, bricks, and dust spiraled into the air, the hero yanked a sidearm from his side. Angling it towards the girl, he fired off three shots.
It was a sound plan; if this monstrous creature was a demon, it was clear the controller and focus was the girl. Killing her would send the creature back to the Afterlife or release it to wreck havoc. A 50/50 chance was better than watching his friend be crushed, which is why the man shot.
The girl yanked her head down, as she shot from her kneeling position on the ground. Three bullets pierced the hide of the monster, which seemed to blur where the projectiles struck. The girl's palm slammed into his stomach, launching him into the open street. He rolled to a stop on his hands and knees, struggling not to vomit as bile and blood filled his mouth. A shadow flew overhead, before his partner's body slammed into his back. He finally lost his control, spilling the horrific mixture onto the pavement. The small girl began walking forward, sighing in relief.
“I gotta figure out other commands besides COMBAT and SCOUT for you, big guy. Almost lost my sanity when we entered this city; didn't realize how strong you were.” The girl paused three feet in front of the fallen hero and his partner. The huge, gray creature hovering behind the girl stretched its arms out, as claws of silver extended from each of its hands. The girl grinned as she stroked the bottom of her chin. “I wonder, WRAITH...is filleting people wrong? Always wondered if you could feed them like sashimi to Majins or Bioandroids. Maybe I'll ask Mumbo his opinion.”
The girl raised her hands, preparing to drop it and end both heroes in a painful display of gross cruelty.
