Like all of the Kai, Zen was born from the fruit that the great Kaiju, the world tree, bore. But he was born with great expectations. For the current Grand Supreme Kai took great interest in the young Zen. For some reason the old Kai decided to take him on as his protege. Maybe he sensed something in the young Shinjin, or maybe it was just chance. Because of this Zen was always put on a pedestal. Which didn't help him make any friends among the other Shinjin his age. While also making his work load double that of most of the young Kai.
The Grand Supreme Kai put a lot of pressure on Zen and expected him to be able to handle it. He was given a guardian to watch over him at all times and the guy was no fun at all! School was a constant. There's was always some lesson he had to learn, whether it be in the great Castle of a school or one on one with the Grand Supreme Kai. But he hated all of this and most of all, he thought that being a Kai, especially a Supreme Kai was so BORING. Despite all of this though, Grand Supreme Kai grew to be a father like figure to the young Kai.
And while Zen will NEVER understand how he could stand being a Kai, he does definitely look up to him and value their relationship. One day while wandering around in other world (as he tended to do when he could manage to escape), he stumbled upon a curious man. He seemed like just a fat man in a luchador mask, but he told the young Zen all about Namekians, Saiyans, Humans, Majin, everything in great detail. He told him about the memorable battles between these aliens. Zen was hooked.
He had always heard stories about mortals from the Kai. But never in so much detail and never with so much passion. The battles, the glory, the adventure, and of course the sweets. It all sounded so amazing. He wanted, no, he needed to learn martial arts and become a real hero. Not just some useless God that sat around while other people saved the universe. So one day, while all the other Kais were distracted, Zen made his break! He left the comfort of Kaishin to find adventure on Earth! This was the start of his story...
