He moved through the air of North City, thankful as hell his Ki Sense still worked. His form was flickery, made of vapor that wasn't quite there. His eyes, two points of blue light in the fog, stared back and forth. Terryn was probably around here somewhere, but whe- There. Locking in on the energy signature of his friend, the Saiyan sped through the buildings, before slowing down as he got close. Taking a deep breath, before once again remembering he didn't have lungs, the Saiyan steeled himself... then moved outwards. "I hope you got the news before now... because if not, this was a really shitty way to find out. Hi there, Terryn. I don't have much time.... but we need to talk." His form was indisctinct, lower legs more of a column of ectoplasm that roiled across the ground. His hair, short though it was, waved in the breeze, and his muscled chest was almost see-through. Terryn sat on a lone bench within the streets of North City, simply relaxing after a long day. Smoke wafted from a lit cigarette clutched between his fingers as he mindlessly swiped through his phone. His social media was as unappealing and boring as ever, but then again, when wasn't it? 'Who even uses this crap and actually enjoys it?' Terryn thought to himself, grunting under his breath.
He took a long drag from his cigarette before leaning his head back and blowing it into the cold air. Without so much a thought, Terryn opened up his browser and slowly scrolled through his news feed. Some interesting stories, some not...But one in particular caught Terryn's eye as he scrolled past.
''...Central City was attacked by...An Oozaru?''
Terryn couldn't help but mutter it to himself in shock and confusion. Concerned and confused...Yet there was more than that. Terryn felt more than just that. Something entirely different. He couldn't quite describe it. like this strange, nervous feeling you get when you simply know something terrible was going to befall you.
Dread.
Terror washed over him as his thumb hovered over the news article. His thumb slowly inched closer and closer to the screen. But then, out of nowhere, a voice. Banzo's voice.
''O-Oh, hey Banz-...'' Terryn cut himself off as he finally laid eyes on his old friend. His mouth hung open, and every word escaped him. Wide eyes looked the oddly spectral form of Banzo up and down, phone slipping out of his hand and crashing onto the sidewalk.
Slowly, Terryn swallowed. A choppy whimper escaped him as tears began to well in his eyes. ''B-Banzo...What...W-what happened to you!?'' He stuttered in a broken tone.
...Despite asking, Terryn, deep down, knew what happened to Banzo.
He just didn't want to believe it.

He winced, as Terryn's face fell. Oh. He hadn't heard then, huh? Well, fuck. Wincing, he rubbed the back of his head. "Well, uh... I got brainwashed. Then I kinda... did some stuff. Long story short... a lot of people are dead, myself included." He exhaled slowly, and bit his lip.
"So, uh... yeah. I'm back. Briefly." He coughed. "I'm... kinda on the run from the afterlife? So... y'know."
Rolling his shoulders, he tried to think of how to approach this.
"So... yeah. Not got long left, but I needed to talk to you before I go, and... well, and apologize to some people."
Looking out into the distance, he turned back to Terryn after a moment. This was a lot tougher than he thought it'd be.
"How's the training been going? Because, ah... I think it's gonna be a lot more on your shoulders now. I'm... lesser. I can't go Oozaru anymore, and I don't even think I'm going to escape the Ogres for long. If the World Trade Fleet attacks...."
Banzo looked Terryn in the eyes, and folded his arms. "It's going to be up to you and the others." At least Ledinjin had survived.... That was something, anyway. He was strong enough to face whatever was coming... and hopefully Terryn would be too.

The world around him seemed to fall silent and dead as the realization slowly sank into his mind. Silent, and dead...Just like him. Just like Banzo. A single tear escaped and slid down his cheek, he couldn't help it. ''B-but...!'' Banzo was dead. The evidence was right infront of him, and he still wouldn't believe it. A second tear slid down his other cheek. ''Y...You can't! I...-'' Terryn choked, his voice trembling under the weight of his own sorrow. Covering his mouth, Terryn's eyes closed tightly as he shook his head.
He shook and quivered in silence as the ghost of Banzo continued to talk to him. A feeling indescribable crashed into him like a freight train, sending Terryn spiralling down an endless hole.
He was the one that ran away when they needed him most
He was the one that could've saved many...Could've saved him.
...But he didn't.
''I'm sor-ry! I'm s-so sorry-yyyyy!'' Terryn let out a muffled cry, burying his face into his own hands. He didn't dare look Banzo in the eyes. He was too much of a coward.
Shakily, he tried to breathe in, his entire body trembling uncontrollably. In silence, Terryn slowly looked up at his old friend, only now realizing that...This would be the last time he'd see him. ''B-Banzo...I...Y-You...You can't go...'' He managed to speak, trying to fight back against the building tears. ''This place n-needs you...! I...I n-need y-you!!'' Terryn shouted, his voice high-pitched and broken. Tears flung from his widened eyes. Eyes wide with sadness...Eyes wide with fear.
''I c-can't protect this place on my own, B-Banzo...'' Terryn stared his deceased friend dead in the eyes, terrified.
The broken 'hero' inhaled sharply through his teeth, once again shutting his eyes as he sagged downwards. Terryn began shaking his head, softly muttering under his own breath.
''Please d-don't go...P-please stay with us...!''

Moving forwards at Terryn began to tremble, the ghost wrapped his arm around the young man's shoulder. "Hey, c'mon. I'm a Saiyan. I got to go out as I'd have wanted." He chuckled slightly, a sad look in his eyes. "I went out in battle. Sure, it wasn't the one I wanted, but it's better than dying in a gutter somewhere. It's just, well...." He shrugged. "It's just how my hand was dealt."
Patting him on the back, he shook his head as Terryn pleaded with him not to leave. "I wish I could change it, I really do. Short of someone finding the Dragon Balls and wishing me back in time, I don't think anything will though. And, uh... I might have spoiled that by... literally defying the gods to come back for one last talk." He awkwardly rubbed his head, before sighing.
"This isn't going to help, but we need to get this out there in case I get caught soon. You'll probably see the news of what happened. I was brainwashed, by a group called CURE Industries. That's the only explanation. It took several fighters, including Koban, to take me down, but now..."
He grabbed Terryn by both shoulders. "Now they're on the back foot. The World Trade Fleet hasn't been accomplishing anything here, and unless they send a real monster, which they haven't done so far... you have a shot at making this world free. If nothing else... Earth will be free."
Stepping back, he dropped his shaking hands, voice raw. "In the end, that's all I could do for you. I'm sorry, but... my time is ending soon."

Terryn's sorrowful cries were silenced as soon as Banzo put his hand on his shoulder. The tears continued to fall, but Terryn listened on in silence. In Banzo's final moments, the last thing he'd have want to see was Terryn crying his eyes out. No, no...Banzo was right. He was a Saiyan, down to his very core. And despite everything...He died like one, in a blaze of glory. It was an end that Terryn'd rather not envision for himself, yet if this was Banzo's one true desire...? What right did he have to cry about it?
''Pffhhooo...Okay...Okay.'' Terryn nodded, assuring himself that he was okay. Sniffling still, he dried the tears that dotted his eyes, and looked up at Banzo's spectral form. ''I'm...I'm sorry. I just...-'' Terryn paused, his voice nothing but a low mumble. ''I'm sorry you had to see me like this in your l-last moments.'' It was a bitter pill to swallow, and an even more bitter one to outright say. Terryn shook his head, balling his hand into a tight fist as Banzo revealed who did this to him in the first place. ''CURE, huh...? Sounds familiar.'' The earthling spat, gaze locked onto the ground below. Whoever they were, Terryn wouldn't let them get away with this. He couldn't let them get away with this...For the sake of his world. For Banzo's sake.
Terryn seemed to snap to attention at the mention of his Heran Captain, blinking slowly. So he helped take Banzo down...?
A strange, tense feeling sunk into his heart. His Idol- no, his friend, forced to kill his other friend...God this sucked. This sucked so, so much. All Terryn could do was shake his head, lip pulled back into a slant. He sighed.
His gaze snapped upwards with widened eyes as Banzo grabbed him by both shoulders. Their eyes locked as Terryn listened intently. Colour slowly began to return to the world around him, the confidence in Banzo's words so genuine that even Terryn...Even he felt that feeling return to him. A feeling he lost long ago.
Hope.
The Earthling's lips quivered as he tugged them into a smile. A single tear fell from his eyes as he looked away, for just a moment. Terryn inhaled slowly, and nodded. ''...Thank you, B-Banzo. For everything.''
Yet there was still a tenseness in his heart. A question left unanswered. With difficulty, Terryn managed to look Banzo in the eyes. He almost didn't want to ask, fearing he knew the answer all along...But he simply had to know.
''...What about Koban? He...He isn't...?''

"Aye. They're a big tech company. They also had one of the stronger fighters I've seen, about your level. So, you know, be careful. Don't try to fight them alone." Banzo nodded for a moment, underlining the point. If Terryn died too, because of them... No, better not to think about that.
When the young man thanked him, his mouth quirked in a slight smile. He really was leaving the world in good hands. He wasn't at peace with what happened. Why would he be? But it was better to look at the positives, rather than rant and rave over something he hadn't a hope of changing.
When Terryn asked his question, however, the saiyan winced. ".... No. He had used up almost all his Ki, as had I... and then Sesame, a demon, attacked me. He and I both fired off our strongest attacks... and went out together in a ball of heat and light. I saw him in the line for the afterlife, and we spoke for a bit. He... didn't blame me for his death. Bit surprising, but as he said, he put his very life into that final blow. Last I saw, he was heading off for Heaven. I mean, I was falling to hell at the time, but King Yenma is very loud."
He chuckled slightly, before sobering up once more. "In any case.... he may be gone, but I can confirm you'll see him again one day. That does NOT mean you should go risking your neck to try and hurry it up, though." He said, giving a quick glare to the young man in case he got any ideas. "I don't want to see you in that damn line until you're old and grey, or unless you have a hell of a story to tell, alright?"
Shaking his head, Banzo paused for a moment, thinking. "I think... I think that's all I've got to cover. I'm proud of you. Koban's proud of you.... he's happy. CURE are a bushel of bastards. I'm going to go talk to Vocado and Carro before I leave. Probably Sulfur too, if I can find her. I think... that's the important parts."

...And so Terryn's worst fear became reality. Koban had died.
His eyes slowly drooped downward after Banzo explained what happened. A chilling wind brushed past, letting loose an unsettling howl. ''...I see.'' Terryn spoke in a cold, dead tone. Never before had the Earthling felt so empty as he did now. His two brightest sources of inspiration and hope had perished, met by a terrible fate.
Terryn wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, he wanted to do terrible things...But he couldn't bring himself to it. A familiar thought rang in the back of his head, one that had plagued him for so long.
Where was I, then? How many lives could I have saved? ...Would it have even mattered?
Once again, Terryn averted his gaze, no longer having the will to look Banzo in the eyes. He felt disgusted and ashamed...Down to his very core. A sense of regret that shook his very soul, and once again drained the colour from the world. ''I...-'' Terryn quickly fell silent. Banzo didn't want him to get himself killed now, but Terryn just couldn't bring himself to lie.
He didn't respond.
''...I'm glad Koban isn't here.'' Terryn admitted, a light crack in his tone. Gazing down at a shaky hand, Terryn's breathing stuttered again. ''I...I d-don't think I co-could have looked him in the eyes...W-with how s-shitty of a Trooper I've b-been...!'' He spoke, his voice breaking down mid-sentence as the tears began flowing again. Words couldn't describe just how disgusted Terryn was with himself. He ran away when the world needed him most, and now the ones with true courage died because of him. Terryn was unsure if he could've saved them had he been there...And that was the worst feeling of all.
...He would never know if he could've saved them. It shattered him.
Terryn shook his head with violent disgust at Banzo's final words, jaw clenched shut as he gripped his head with both hands. ''H-how...?'' His voice quaked. ''How could you e-ever be proud of m-me?! I...I ran a-away! I d-didn't have the f-fucking balls to fight! I'm a f-fucking coward!'' The Earthling cried out, burying his head into his own lap. Terryn's head swung side-to-side. 'Never again...!' He thought, ''N-Never again!''
''I'm never g-gonna run away again...'' Terryn repeated to himself, still shivering as the tears dropped. Suddenly, Terryn inhaled sharply, and leaned back, eyes red and tear-stained. The Earthling groaned as he wiped his eyes. ''S-stop fucking crying, Terryn...Get yourself togethe-er...''
After a moment of Terryn focussing on his breathing, the tears and sobbing stopped. ''I'm so sorry, Banzo...This is just really, really difficult for me.'' Terryn admitted, as if Banzo couldn't tell already.
''...I'm gonna miss you, dude.'' A strange calmness returned to Terryn as he looked the ghostly Banzo right in the eyes. A faint smile cut the silence, as Terryn spoke up.
''...So I guess this is goodbye, huh?

"You think I've never been scared, mate?" Banzo shook his head. "I've been plenty scared. I've made mistakes too. I've watched people die because of me. I still regret it, but if you give up now, what was the point?" Reaching out, he lay a hand on Terryn's shoulder. "Everyone fails. The only question is... will you lay there and let the failure be the last thing you do?"
Straightening up, Banzo smiled. "I believe you. Just remember... the goal is for people to live. That includes you. Running is better than dying for no reason. Trust me when I say this...." His eyes hardened. "You can only die once. When you go.... Sell your life, and sell it dear. Make sure whatever you're dying for is worth the cost."
He let Terryn calm a bit, and waited as he spoke. This was goodbye, huh? It had been sinking in for a while. He choked on his own breath a bit. "For now, yeah. It might be a while, but I'll see you again one day, mate. From what Koban said, Hell is about purifying the soul, so... by the time you die, hopefully I'll have finished scrubbing the grime off mine. If not, well.... chuck a rock down from the clouds and yell at me to get my ass moving."
Extending a fist, he bumped Terryn in the shoulder. "Good luck, Terryn. Cause take this as my final certainty...." A wide grin split his lips, and he placed his hands on his waist, booming out his last words to his friend.
"You're going to be AMAZING."
and swirling into a column of mist, he spiraled out into the air, fading into the sunlight a second later.

''Hm,'' Terryn chuckled inwardly, cracking a grin as his head hung low. ''Maybe I'll dive down to Hell and come visit sometime.'' The Earthling looked up, a bittersweet glint in his eyes. ''...Don't count on me swinging by too soon, though. Can't go and die just yet.'' He spoke with a light crack in his voice, his grin stretching wider.
As Banzo's fist bumped into him, Terryn's breathing halted, if only for a moment. It was as if the entire world around them stood still. Terryn's eyes began to widen as his heart froze. Banzo's voice boomed across the streets, his final words echoing within his mind.
The last image Terryn saw of the Saiyan was one of pride, hope, and most importantly...One of trust. Despite Terryn's failures, and despite his fears, Banzo believed that he could protect the world. As his form faded into the wind, Terryn was left awestruck, gazing into the empty skies with wide eyes.
In this moment, this farewell...Terryn believed. Believed in Banzo. Believed in himself.
Tears began to run down the Earthling's face, teeth grit together as he so desperately tried to hold it together. But still he began to sob, letting out an airy gasp before inhaling sharply. With Banzo and Koban's passing, the weight of the Earth rested on his shoulders. Yet Terryn finally realized that he was not alone. Their memories would hold Terryn upright, and those who would stand with him helped carry the world.
Silently, Terryn stood up from the bench he sat on, and slowly looked up at the skies. Terryn's lips quivered, and the would-be hero tightly shut his eyes. After a moment, Terryn's eyes opened once more, his expression steeled. His hand clenched into a tight fist, which Terryn raised far into the sky. The tears continued to run, yet Terryn's gaze held strong, held brave.
Yeah...Brave.
That is what he always wanted to be. ...And he finally believed he could be.
'Thank you. And goodbye, my friend.'
