A SNAKE'S PRIZE | Meshin's PL: 1,600 |
The Diablo Desert had developed a reputation for banditry stretching back hundreds of years now. There were brief interludes of safety, certainly: times of relative peace brought on by the presence of various heroes, vigilante groups or security details. But no matter what happened, the wastes always seemed to return to their natural order, ridden with bandits and thieves. It was the kind of place where an honest trader's fortune could sink beneath the sand in a heartbeat, or where an innocent traveler could be lost to time and their vehicles sold for scrap. Only snakes could ever really thrive here.
Today, the dunes would bear witness to another poor soul robbed of their labour. A treasure-hunter prowling the outskirts of civilization amid rumours of strange gems bearing terrible powers, so-called blood rubies. Against all odds, he emerged from a network of underground caverns with a single gem. It wasn't the treasure trove he had expected, but even a single of these rubies could feed his family for months. Unfortunately, he wasn't the only one in search of these rubies. When power is up for grabs, the worst kind of ilk imaginable come out of the woodwork to claim their due.
The treasure-hunter had managed to evade bandits on the first leg of his journey, and a roaming alien on the second. But it was when the path out of the desert was in plain sight that a blast sounded just before his hover-car, sending it turning up on itself. He barely had more than a few moments to glimpse the Heran that had attacked him, before a swift kick to his head turned his vision black. She pried open the trunk to the car and plucked out the ruby, holding it up to the sky to appreciate it in the light.
"Why, thank you," she intoned, a smirk etched across her features as she glanced down to her victim. He was still breathing, but blood was beginning to soak into the sand beneath him. He had only narrowly avoided being crushed by the weight of his own vehicle to begin with, but the Heran figured he would be alright. It wasn't really her problem either way. "I'm sure I'll put this to better use than you would have, little human."

Thread Power Level: 3,500
Min had been tracking this guy for ages. Ever since her run-in with Kayen, she’d been fascinated by these strange little rubies. They held so much power, but why? What magic was imbued within them, and who left so many lying around? She needed to get to the bottom of it. Not for any selfish reason, of course. It was more her good will getting in the way. Just because she was a treasure hunter didn’t mean she was a baddie, after all.
From her hours of trailing, the guy in the car seemed innocent enough. He’d thought it was just some overpriced bauble when he found it in the shops. Haggling it down so low must have felt like stealing.
Now, at the outskirts of the next town, Min lowered her hood. She’d swiped a dusty brown cloak from a stall a few towns back to hide her identity, or at least to make her stand out less in the sand. It wasn’t like she was some renowned fighter after all.
Before she turned to leave, Min was shocked to see an energy bullet head the car’s way! Too far to stop it, the Serpent Fighter watched in awe as the car flipped end over end from the attack, depositing the man under his car as it crashed back into the sands. The assailant landed at the trunk, and snatched the ruby for themselves!
Damn! There’s actual bad guys out here? I thought all the big stuff was happening on Namek!
Pushing her worry out of her mind, Min leapt into action. Cloak whipping behind her from her speed, the martial artist flew downward like a bullet, aiming to dive kick the fiendish Heran before they could get away with the loot.
Whether she missed or not, Min would backflip away, aiming to land near the man and his car. ”I’d watch your back, girly,” Min said with a cocky smirk. ”There’s bandits in these hills.”

A SNAKE'S PRIZE| Meshin's PL: 1,600 |
Meshin had assumed she was all but in the clear, but unfortunately the arrival of a martial artist to the scene dashed whatever hopes she had of a clean escape. The Heran didn't even spot her attack at first, the kick coming seemingly out of nowhere and knocking her clean off of her feet. She dropped the strange ruby into the sand and landed hard on the makeshift desert road, rolling a couple feet from momentum alone. When she finally pushed herself back to her feet, she was visibly dazed -- not to mention unhappy. "You got a problem?" she turned to face her apparent enemy, rubbing at her shoulder where the hit had ultimately landed. The warning about bandits was obvious sarcasm, and she just scowled in response. Her grip around the strange, steel shield at her arm tightened before she forced a smirk of her own. "I appreciate the warning, but I think I have this under control. And the last thing either of us need is time wasted stamping out would-be heroes in a brawl all of the way out here..."Although the fancy ruby was no longer in possession, another red gem soon came into sight. A deeper red crystal emanating some kind of demonic power was set in the very center of her shield, and as she began to release her power, the gem began to mix in and warp her own power. The whitish aura of ki that first surrounded her began to change, visibly turning into a deep reddish hue, so dark it was almost hard to perceive as anything more than a trick of the light. The gem somehow tainted the aura, and... seemed to cut her power as well. At least so far as could be sensed. In reality, the gem had another purpose: to divert her energy towards a more powerful defense. "So. I'm going to give you this one chance to turn around and leave, before I decide to get violent with you. And--" her forced smirk turned into a more genuine, deeply malicious grin. "--Fair warning. I don't take prisoners."

"Oh don't worry. There's no wannabes out here. I'm the real deal, unlike you. I mean c'mon; who still wears red capes? It's 3018 dude. Get with the times."
Min slipped into a battle stance cautiously, her senses tingling as the gem on Meshin's shield burned brightly. It seemed she had some kind of powerful magic with her already. Was she a mage of some kind? It seemed it was possible. That or an enchantment on her shield. She'd need to be careful either way.
"Don't worry. I'll uh... I'll make sure to... Whatever! Let's just fight okay?!"
With a short shout, Min darted ahead, shoulder-checking Meshin with as much force as she could muster. By her estimate, they were equal in power, but just how strong was that shield? A harsh offense was the only way to find out quick.

By all rights, Meshin should have been almost dead even with this fighter. By as she launched herself forward into that shoulder-check, she would find the first evidence of just what that shield was capable of. As she got the shield in-front of her to guard against the tackle, she would find herself striking what felt almost like a force-field of some sort. She might even catch a brief sense of it: it was as it the gem embedded in that shield was adding another layer of defense, one that extended even past the physical space of the steel itself. Whatever the case, it seemed to save the heran from any shock from the attack, as her feet didn't budge from the guard.
Min might have the upper-hand offensively, but it wasn't going to be quite so easy to bypass the alien's defenses.
She wasn't long for a counter-attack either, as she immediately tried to return the favour by reeling her shield back and thrusting herself forward. Her feet left the ground and she extended her knee, practically gliding forward into the attack. The move was so practiced and smooth it almost concealed the violent intent behind it: but whether it appeared vicious or not, a knee to the face would be a bad experience for anyone on the receiving end.
"I'm not here to listen to lectures about Earthling fashion, little girl," she scolded. "Take this seriously or it'll turn out poorly for you."
