Kayen had gotten a bit worked up but as she listened to Vocado’s response she grew quiet, making no efforts to cut in on anything he spoke despite some temptation to do so, because the more he spoke the more it seemed like Vocado was trying less to argue with HER and almost as if he was arguing with himself, he stumbled over his words a few times trying to keep some sense of momentum as he spoke but even as he did what he actually said made little impact on her argument as far as she saw it.
He worried about the idea of pushing others, making them strong just as being pushed had done to the Kingdom, she supposed that was a valid concern at least from his perspective. Vocado likely saw things from the perspective of a black and white sort of winning and losing. He lacked the alternative view, Kayen’s own preference for this whole situation, that there would not be such a simple ending where one side is pushed and pushed and finally defeated.
Her ultimate aim was a constant push and pull, a literal tug of war that would continue to raise all sides, ideally with her Kingdom maintaining enough hidden advantage that if ever it was necessary they COULD end things and move on to the next enemy. He also seemed certain that bringing back the Empire meant bringing back EVERYTHING about the Empire.
It was never so simple, Kayen had even suggested as much, that they could reforge it into something better, something not doomed to crack under its own weight. His last question before he zipped off was an interesting one, it was ideal he needed to leave so quickly because the answer was likely not something the former King was ready to hear.
