Synthesia never had the chance to speak to Ledinjin Wethridge Frost
More than likely, it was for the best- Synthesia was told as a child that if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. To be completely honest, it wasn't a rule he followed very often, but a little red voice inside his head had started to give him some really good advice. The advice this time was to say nothing to the Arcosian.
But that didn't mean that he couldn't do other things, like passive-aggressively stare at him from across the street for hours on end. No matter how much good the lizard seemed to be doing for the community, Synthesia couldn't let go what he did. What his choices were on the day they retook the city. Nothing bad happened, but it was really, really close. If it weren't for that metal man, they'd have probably broke out into a brawl. Synthesia was then reminded that he still needed to chastise him for the damage that thing must do to the environment.
But that was for later, and this was for right now. Synthesia had been helping with the efforts in Satan City where he could- his skillet was one of a kind, after all. Restoring fallen trees, un-corrupting gardens and restoring the soil to a more fertile state were all his forté. Making the city look as it once did was just as important to restoring the status quo of the people who lived here. Thus, he didn't really help much with the other reconstruction. He would've been willing to, but after meeting him, the construction firms and various other workers didn't seem to trust his judgement. He wondered what he did to lead them to that kind of conclusion.
Perhaps it was that he was still giving a dirty look to the Arcosian, who he had spotted walking down the streets. He sat on a park bench, munching on an entire box of doughnuts on his own. Perhaps his vehement, terrifying, vile stare at the Arcosian was less effective with Baoston Cream dotted on his face.

Thread Pl: 49,560 Scouter visor equipped
Another day came in repairing and improving some of the sectors in the city. The FPR was becoming prominent, both with their notoriety from Ledinjin's test and their popularity from being legitimately helping the civilians. Nods of appreciation and judgemental leers were given to Ledinjin as he made his way to a section of the city that they were aiming to work on: restoring healthy plant life and removing the contaminates in the soil. Although it had been a very long time, Ledinjin had been moving with a kick in his step! He had studied all sorts of biomes when he was younger, posing as a middle class graduate back on Arcose, at a college that the WTF had that was meant to train students how to price planets based on their composition. He had developed a theorem that he believed to this day could help the restoration of these worlds, but before he could present it, he had to return back to the Rebel headquarters at the time, his fellows and parents believing the WTF had learned of Ledinjin going to the school and were planning to use his presentation as a means of ambushing him.
This work was something he was looking forward to! Little did he know, aa he arrived with his scouter and a capsule case containing his tools to sample the grounds, some of the grounds had been decontaminated. He was vexed by this for a moment, heading close to the grounds to view the ground and foliage with his eyes and scouter. The machine sweeped the ground with a green light, the visor telling Ledinjin that they were clean of diseases!
"Huh," Ledinjin uttered in surprise, "I guess I'm not the only one here that is working out here..."
Ledinjin looked around, to eventually a partly familiar sight. The green haired human with the Pride Troopers was here, giving him a deeply cold stare. Ledinjin wasn't going to assume it was him, but he did suspect it was. Yet, with the look he was being given, they weren't going to chat so soon. So, he'd just wave to him before looking around with the scouter visor to see what could still use some work. For Ledinjin's eyes, trees and bushes were marked at areas on them at random spots, low to the ground with red globs identifying what didn't belong.
He pulled out a capsule marked T-1 and activated it while tossing it to a few feet away from himself, to a spot away from the cleaned area towards where he walked in from. A table with several glass vials and a synthesizer on top of it, as well as a strange gizmo attached to what was clearly a sink. There was also a digital pad with a touch screen that he could write notes into. He grabbed what looked like a 2 segmented pipe with a plunger at the top along with a one of the cylindrical vials. He then approached a small bush that had looked as though it was partly wilting away and stuck that rod in the ground! What was this old Arcosian doing?

Aha! He knew it! He knew the space lizard was evil! Synthesia almost stopped staring at him for a moment to express his excitement that he was right. Wait a second, he needed to stop him, didn't he? Probably. Maybe? Wait, what was he doing, actually? Did that entire set just come out of a ball? Synthesia's eyebrows furrowed. Technology was scary.
But so were weird lizard aliens sticking rods into your bushes. That was almost like a human seeing him plunge a rod inside of another human. It was pretty bone-chilling. But! It wouldn't deter Synthesia. He'd sit here and watch the strange alien for as long as he had to. He needed to make sure he wasn't up to anything suspicious. Slipping his hand under the park bench, he lifted it from the ground with ease and scooched forwards. When he was right behind a bush, he set the bench back down.
He was certain that at this spot right in the middle of the sidewalk, in broad daylight, he would be safe from the Arcosian's gaze. He watched with bated breath.

The Arcosian lifted up the rod from the ground, and proceeded to then insert the rod into the large vial. With a push, dirt and some of the grass came out as the rod shortened to just one segment. That done, he returned to the table and held it over the nozzle at the sink as he turned it on. A bright lavender light shined from the table in some cabinet that was closed for a moment before a machine came out with a vacuum attached to it. It looked a lot like a radiator with a funnel stuck into it. It only lasted a bit, pulling in the air until it blinked in yellow, 'Contents filled. Condensing into Water,' and producing the solution! Ledinjin filled the vial just enough to cover the dirt fully and put it into the synthesizer. As he did, he called out to the green haired person, "You know, staring like that would get you in a lot of trouble. Instead, why don't you come and chat instead, Pride Trooper? I imagine you're the one that's been working on these grounds and would like to know what you've learned that's infecting the soil."He looked back, a stalwart gaze given back. He wasn't scared in the slightest, nor did he feel a need for it. Ledinjin waved him to approach. Synthesia

Oh no, he had been found out!
That made things a wee bit more complicated. Synthesia shuffled over sheepishly, the look of displeasure still clear as day on his face. "I-I won't get into any trouble. Are you kidding me? I can take care of myself! Hmph." Synthesia huffed from his nose and crossed his arms, avoiding eye-contact with the Arcosian.
Things were silent for a while.
Synthesia didn't answer the Arcosian's words immediately. Instead, he kneeled down where the rod had pierced the Earth, closing his eyes for a moment. He lifted them up after a moment, a clump of soil coming with it. He rubbed the soil between his fingers before letting it cascade back to the ground where it sat. He turned his attention back to the Arcosian. "I see. You're trying to remove the problem using technology. I... appreciate it." He muttered the last bit.
He knelt down, once again turning his attention to the soil down below. He placed his palm gently in the grasses. "It's not just one thing. You should know- but things that are alive will always fight to be alive even under the most dire of circumstances." Synthesia gripped onto his left wrist with his right hand, shaking it as a visual diagram. "A person can lose an arm or a leg and still live on. It's like that." He shot a sidelong glance over his shoulder, giving the Arcosian a fairly neutral once-over- far better than the blatant hostility he had shown before.
"But if a human loses their brain, or their heart, they'll die. If you wanna think about it like that, the vitals of the plant are air, water, nutrients and sunlight." Synthesia ran his hand along the grasses, stopping at a fern and taking it's leafy greens into his hand. "You can remove all the corruption you want from a plant, but if it doesn't have one of those things, it'll die anyways. You see?" Synthesia stood up and placed his hands behind his back, turning to look at the Arcosian head-on. "Irrigation systems have been damaged through the fighting. Dark clouds blotted out the sky. Nobody refurbished their fertilizer. That's 3 out of the 4 things these plants needed, gone. It's not the corruption that got to them, it's the starvation of the stuff they need to live. If they don't live, the people in Satan City won't have a fun time, either. The plants here cycle out the mass amounts of carbon dioxide that are made from people. Without them, people in Satan City may suffocate within it's own bounds.
Synthesia motioned towards the machine that the Arcosian had used to extract the soil. "As much as I'd love to ust a machine and fix all the problems in this city, it's gonna take a lot more manual effort. Spreading seeds, repairing irrigation canals, spreading fertilizer, that kind of business." Synthesia raised an eyebrow at the Arcosian, standing placidly with his hands laced together. "Could you make a machine to do that?"

Cooperation came from the green haired Trooper after Ledinjin's comment and their own personal investigation on what Ledinjin was doing. The Arcosian nodded in agreement with them about the multitude of problems. "This is among true statements, Ledinjin replied, his gaze unrelenting, but a smile on his face, "I take it you've got a point?"So they did. They elucidated that the civilians had forgone laying new fertilizer for the nutrients to exist, their irrigation pipes being damaged preventing said nutrients the ability to 'travel' to the plants, and a lack of sunlight for the energy to be converted into usable resource for them to become lush. After this elucidation, they asked about a machine that they could construct to restore the plant life. An easy task for Ledinjin, if he was given the right materials! The only issue, though, was he knew many materials by different names in the Arcosian tongue, and he wasn't able to get a full list memorized to do this. "That's a task much easier than you'd think," Ledinjin replied, pointing at the synthesizer, "Right now, I'm using this machine to separate the contents of the dirt so I can first understand what belongs and what does not. It, as well as my scouter visor here, have a comprehension of Earth's elements, but it's very limited. However, unlike my scouter, the machine is able to translate and learn more about this soil. The much more abundant elements of Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen, hydrogen, and argon, which are the most common elements in the air. It is also aiming to learn about the other trace elements that are in the dirt, so that I can better understand how the plants can become lush with life and operate at a much higher rate than before. For instance, there are trace amounts of Tricalcium Silicate in the ground from the organisms that go around the sidewalks, due to their feet impacting it hard enough that the material can very partially be lodged in. This, in turn, allows it to travel through the city and to this park, causing the ground to be covered in it. Yet..."He pointed at the bush he was at that Synthesia went to with his pause, "I am also needing to figure out what doesn't belong into the plants here. With the lack of nutrients, the plant can become infected by bacteria and viruses that wouldn't touch it so much. What I'm also using the synthesizer here for is to identify those infectious items and either eliminate or transfer them, should they simply belong to another location or would be of better use to a section on the planet that needs assistance maintaining itself... However, that's a different topic in its own way! Since you've been acquainting yourself with the park, perhaps you could expedite the process of this by showing me how you handle cleaning the place up?"Synthesia

Ah! He knew about plants! Maybe this space-lizard wasn't so bad, after all. No bad person could like plants.
What he said made sense, even! Synthesia tilted his head and smiled- it was nice to talk to a guy who knew his stuff, even if this guy had done some quite questionable things in the past. Ah well- maybe the two of them could actually work out a solution to some problems that the city was facing? Well, only one way to find out!
Synthesia cracked his neck, then cracked his knuckles. "Show you? I suppose I have no choice. Just a fair warning, though- I don't think it's something that you can replicate." Synthesia bent down to the patch of wildlife they had been working on and placed his ear towards the ground. He nodded a few times, as if working something out, before he placed his hand just above the soil. Seconds later, his hand erupted into roots, his now partially-wooden hand clashing grotesquely with his pale-white flesh. The roots shot into the ground at various points, and Synthesia closed his eyes, focusing for a moment.
After said moment, the various withered plants in the area began to regrow almost instantaneously, their leaves blooming brighter than ever before. Synthesia stood and morphed his hand back into it's human form, shaking it to get off the excess dirt. "I'm a Nature Spirit, see. My vessel is a plant, and thus, has plant properties. What I just did was inject the plants with my own cells." Synthesia put his hands on his hips and nodded. "My cells are much stronger than an average plant cell- so much so that they multiply and reproduce at nearly six times the rate of an average cell if I really focus hard enough. Since my cells are so strong, the plants have a bit of a growth spurt- their roots can go down farther into the earth, get water from decontaminated soil, etc. It's great for temporary usage, but..."
Synthesia crossed his arms and looked down, tapping his foot as he thought over it. "It's not really sustainable. Most plant cells decompose, but mine decintegrate into nothingness. Plants feed off the decomposed nutrients of other plants- if my cells decintegrate the plant for too many generations, the soil will become infertile. That's why I think we need infrastructure back first- as long as the plants have infrastructure, I can help them recover now, and into the future."

The way that Synthesia began his explanation was firstly with a demonstration... A strange one at that! Ledinjin's eyes reflected his boggled mind as the green haired person before him manifested root-like appendages from his hand after listening to the ground, like a stratigrapher! Plants in the area became lush within an immensely short time. With his hand out, he explained that it was something biological. He looked human, but was obviously not, for the first part. 2ndly, like a doctor surgically installing a new liver into a patient with a diminishing one, he explained that he was giving them enough energy to allow the plants to produce many new cells to replace the dead cells. "I... I see," Ledinjin thought aloud, biting his thumb with also just staring intensely at the vivid green leaves, "It's certainly something tough to replicate, sustainably..."He had to think about it for a moment. Replenish the soil's nutrients was important, and since Synthesia's body didn't seem to linger around long enough for nutrients, they had to think of something else. Ledinjin, though, had an idea. "Since it's not trying to restore life an entire planet, this is easier to work with," Ledinjin spoke up after a bit of thinking, "If I understand this correctly, you were simply lending your energy to the plants... In a way, this is similar to cancer, but it is helping them return to a healthy state for only a short period. So, if we want to give the plants sustainable life, we have to understand what plants are in this area. From what I gather, the plants in this area are of the deciduous temperate ecosystem. They require several inches of rainfall regularly, at least once a month until the winter months come along. They occasionally have lots of decomposers in the area to help break down the dead leaves and animals in the area into reusable nutrients for the plants. So, naturally the answer lies with the Fungi and other decomposers in the area. While they break dead material down into reusable parts, they also operate as a means of disinfecting the material so that the plants can use that. Therefore, we need to introduce a vast amount of water to the area... Warm water, to stimulate the growth of the fungi. This, in turn, will also bring about worms to the service and they'll get to work as well! The trick is, though, getting it to spread around in a way that doesn't make the decomposers an issue... You mentioned that the irrigation system was down right?"Synthesia

Now things were going smoothly! Synthesia shot the reindeer-esque Arcosian a thumbs-up. "Yeah! Something like that. My plant cells multiply rapidly, but it's not real growth. I stimulate growth by artificially speeding up the life cycle of the cell. It works like a charm when you wanna grow something fast, but it's not sustainable!"
Synthesia nodded along with the older man's words, rather impressed with the swathes of knowledge he seemed to possess. It was quite the stark difference, compared to what he had witnessed from the Arcosian earlier. Whenever he had encountered folks of the space-lizard variety, a fight always ensued. Synthesia supposed it was because they were predisposed to fighting, but this one was proving his theory to be based on shaky ground.
Synthesia nodded at his final thought, dusting off the dirt from his now-human arm. "Yeah, I'm fairly certain it's down. If it isn't down, then something happened to the water supply." Synthesia idly poked his toe into the dirt, pressing it into the soft, brown matter. "Honestly, I'm not really sure what exactly demonic corruption does to things. To stuff like water, and all that. I can't imagine it'd be anything good, but without knowing exactly what, it's a lot harder to identify what damage it could potentially cause."
Synthesia took a stroll over to a lamp post and tapped it with his finger. "Buildings and stuff are still standing, despite the fact that their foundations and the bricks themselves were corrupted by demonic energy. I don't think it harms structural integrity, then." Synthesia nodded at his own point, holding up two fingers towards his new friend.
"That leaves two options- one, the irrigation system was taken out during one of the battles fought here. Two, something happened to the water supply. Which one should we check out first?"

There were two notions being guessed at. Notion 1: The water was present but the pipes were damaged from the fighting. Not having clearance to readily make repairs, as Ledinjin had been finding even though they were in a war scenario, Ledinjin and Synthesia wouldn't be able to work on it. They've been left with notion 2: the water, whether the pipes were functional or not, wasn't being sent out! It wasn't possible for something as large as a lake that was giving water to an entire city of at least a million to just not have anymore, which meant the damages had be near the source of water.
"The answer to both those thoughts would be at the water treatment plant connected to the park," Ledinjin pointed out, "Due to the bureaucracy of this city being present even in this recovery, we won't be able to do anything. Considering what we did while you guys were purifying the city has put us in a bad light we're trying to get out of..."
Ledinjin's voice got slightly higher in pitch as he flattend his hand to a knife and shook it while pointing to his neck.
"We are left to use our own devices that'd not be impeding those laws... Literally and figuratively. For now, finding the infected plants and soil is the only foreseeable thing for us to do. I could probably fashion a 2nd machine from some unused debris and get some of my Heran friend's intuition on this to bypass the water dilemma for a bit before the water treatment is fixed? I'm not so sure."

Ah. Right. They did still do some pretty shady stuff. In their little conversation, Synthesia had almost forgotten that he was talking to an Arcosian, a race of people who most of the planet (himself included) did not trust. However, Synthesia may have been prejudiced and stubborn, but he wasn't about to ignore the intelligence and willingness for this Arcosian to co-operate with him in the effort to improve the city's plant life. The plant life wasn't even all that important- or, at least, a normal person would think as such. Just the fact that this Arcosian listened to his claims and pleas and decided that they were worth supporting was good enough as is.
"Yeah. You might not be welcome." Synthesia nodded, before smiling and pointing to himself. "-but I'm sure a Pride Trooper would be." Two more nods before Synthesia placed his fists on his hips. This Arcosian had done some dubious things, sure- but he didn't seem like a bad person at all. Synthesia would've never thought of using the advantages his status gave him to give heightened access to an Arcosian of all people, but well, everyone needed to change eventually, right?
"I, uh, still think what you did was really dumb, by the way. Especially since I was there n' all." Synthesia let out a sigh before turning away from the reindeer-esque alien, staring at the plants around them absentmindedly. "It was short sighted and didn't make any sense at all. But, uh, despite that, I still apppreciate you helping out. You're aliens- you don't have to do that. You're not like me- this is my purpose. It's why I was made. But doing it out of your own free will is pretty admirable, I think."
He then spun back towards Ledinjin suddenly, leaning forwards in a coy, playful way. "Water plant's this way. Let's fix up this city, yeah?"

He was right about that. Being part of the Pride Troopers, who helped this city, would be certainly opened to! He was also right about what Ledinjin did during said assistance... However, Ledinjin had to be certain these new guys were able to hold up their emotions and do what was needed for the city! He didn't think they were ready, but they had promise. It was why they needed to train.
"There's a reason for my actions, but I won't deny the brashness behind either," Ledinjin replied, putting his hands to his hips, "And I'll take your response as a compliment. However, be cautious on your choice of words in the future... You're bound to piss off someone like me off for them."
He followed, motioning for him to lead on. It was clear this guy had some personal issues with his kind. No doubt, reputation playing heavily. However, rather pry into any further, Ledinjin packed his stuff up quickly before following suit.
Agreed! Good thread, Syn. :D
