Chime nodded excitedly as Tarch seemed to understand what he was getting at, "Yeah, exactly! The rainbow thing is a good metaphor, I'll have to remember that one. It's kinda like that saying, too, with the forest and the trees...? But I think yours is better." He nodded again, and went silent as the young Saiyan closed his eyes and tried focusing. His mouth twitched up into a smile at the comment on their power levels, but he didn't actually respond, as he didn't want to break his new friend's concentration.
As he watched, Tarch's demeanor changed from calm and serene to anxious and upset. Chime could see it in his expression, and was about to say something when the boy's aura flared out. He raised his hands up, instinctively, but didn't actually reach out. He'd grabbed Tarch by the arm and spooked him enough today, it would be best to leave him alone. Thankfully, Chime didn't have to do anything, as a second later the boy opened his eyes and began talking again. For a moment, Chime had been worried he'd get lost in his own head and memories, but it seemed the little Saiyan was more resilient than that. Chime let out a sigh before he replied.
"...You're here, but it sounds like your mind is still back on Namek. Whenever you clear your mind, all the bad memories come up, right? You need to find something else to focus on. To keep you present in the moment, and not in the past. Focus on your breathing, or the feel of the grass, or the wind in your hair, the sound of the birds...then move a little further out, like the energy of the people around you," He pat a hand on his own chest as he spoke, "And just keep moving out like that, in small steps. And if you start thinking of bad things, like Namek, you can use those points to re-focus on. Does that make sense?" Chime looked worried as he waited for a response. He wanted to help Tarch, he really did, but he wasn't sure if he was qualified to comfort war-tormented kids.

This time the boy just flopped onto his back, staring up at the sky. This used to come so easy to him too. Now Tarch was learning he was not only going to have to relearn how to use his energy sensing, but he was also going to have to actually do it the proper way rather than through instinct. “So I guess there’s no shortcut to this whole thing then.” Tarch took a small sigh, “bummer.” He hoped that would be enough to imply that he did indeed understand Chime’s instructions. He didn’t really have much to say for a while, just laid on the hard dirt to watch the clouds lazily drift overhead. He needed to think a minute.
Unfortunately, his thoughts were all but helpful. His mind just wandered to how he had yet to see any of his friends outside of school, and even then it seemed like they were all more his school friends rather than his close friends. Then he thought back to his fight against his teacher back on Namek. That was it. Before all this Tarch COULD live the life of a relatively normal child. Things were simple for the half saiyan. Energy sensing was simple. “I think I get it,” he breathed out of nowhere. Tarch slowly picked himself back into a seated position, legs crossed. “Everything just seems so… complicated now.” While the teen didn’t fully understand, he knew that he almost forced himself to grow up before he got the chance to be a teenager. “I just want things to be simple again. Namek was when everything became all messy for me.”
Tarch looked back at Chime with a blank stare. He studied the namekian for a moment before decided to give this one more try, deciding to only focus on him. "I'm gonna try one more time, this time just on you." Through his closed lids Tarch could feel a short man, clearly alien, with a power level almost equal to his own. Now the hybrid already knew that much, he had to go further into this single person. Tarch tried his best to reach out, really see who Chime was beyond what he looked like and how strong he was. Tarch began to rub his temples anxiously. No matter how hard he tried, all he felt was confusion. No, it wasn’t confusion, just uncertainty. What Tarch didn’t know, was that his uncertainty wasn’t actually his own. He had mixed Chime’s nervous confusion with his own. “Yep. I’m gonna need to work on it. Right now whenever I try to sense your feelings I just get confused. But hey I didn’t think about Namek this time right?”

As Tarch flopped on his back, Chime sat down beside him, cross-legged, and leaned over so his weight was resting on one hand. Chime couldn't help but chuckle as he bemoaned the fact there was no shortcut, "Nope, sorry. It's just something you've got to learn. But once you do, it opens you up to learn everything else!" He waved his hands out as he exclaimed this, then paused, "Oh, but you said you already know other things, right? Techniques and all that. But this will still make you better at them once you figure it out. Gotta walk before you can run, and all that." He smiled down at Tarch as he sat back up, trying his best to be encouraging.
He looked up at the sky and sighed, letting the silence stretch out between them for a moment. He wanted to really gather his thoughts before his spoke, "...I think the world is complicated. I never realized how much until I got out here. I'd heard stories, of course, but that's nothing like seeing the real thing. It's so different from what I'd imagined. I think..." Chime wrinkled his nose up, "I think this might be what growing up is? Heh. And here I thought I already was grown up..."
Tarch sat up again, and declared he was going to try to sense his energy once more, so Chime nodded and went still. He tried to project his own energy outward, subconsciously, as if that would help Tarch at all, but it was still something the Saiyan had to do himself in the end. His aura didn't flare up in a panic like it had a few minutes ago, but he still seemed uneasy when he opened his eyes again. Chime pat him on the shoulder reassuringly, "You just need to practice more. And hey, I'm confused about a lot of things too, so we're on the same page there, and I'm supposed to be 'god' or whatever." The Namekian nudged him with his elbow and shot him a friendly grin, not really understanding that Tarch was feeling the exact confusion he was, not simply experiencing similar emotions.

The young hybrid looked up at the guardian, throwing him a tired smile. He mentioned how Tarch had other techniques to rely on, which was very true. He had strength, speed, he could make a freaking copy of himself. How many kids or even adults could say they can create copies of themselves. Well, Chromo was one, but he was a little different in that regard. “I sure do. It’s weird though. I started with those sort of instinctively. Like my ki punch and my cloning ability. I used the punch once being chased by bullies in school. The cloning was a pure accident that, with some help, I can now do kind of easily. Using my speed though. That was Mr. Vocado. I always knew I was fast, but he taught me how to use it better. And flying was Ms. Nashua.” Tarch let out a content laugh, remembering the ordeal that was learning to fly. “Man I was a terrible flyer before she helped me.”
Tarch lay there for a while longer as Chime began to delve into his own experience with the complexities of the world. He noted that it wasn’t the world became complicated, just was always like that. Again the saiyan laughed, this time in agreement. It was comforting to know that an adult sometimes had just as much trouble as a kid. Despite all of his flaws and subjectively wrongdoings, Vocado seemed to wear them perfectly. He always seemed to know exactly what he wanted and how to get it. “Guess my school’s guidance counselor was right. You never do stop growing up.” It seemed the energy sensing crisis was, well, not averted but at least settled for the time being. For now, though Tarch still had some questions for the possible god. He knew what he was now more or less, but he still wanted to know what the role of Kami entailed. “Say. Mr. Chime, if you don’t mind me asking. What is it like being Kami of Earth? Like where do you live? Can you hear people praying to you?”

Chime smiled down at Tarch as the boy went on about all the different things he had learned, both from his teachers and what he'd figured out himself. It was honestly impressive, and as he went on down the list, Chime's eyebrows raised further and further. He'd cloned himself by accident? How did that even work? It sounded dangerous. With everything Tarch was saying, Chime wasn't surprised the young Saiyan felt overwhelmed, and that wasn't even counting what had happened on Namek. He just nodded along quietly as Tarch spoke.
He didn't know what a 'guidance counselor' was, but whoever they were, they sounded pretty wise to him, "I guess you don't. I used to think you'd get to a certain point, like you'd be old enough or strong enough, and then you'd just be done. That's basically why I came here to Earth, you know. I thought it would help me grow into my best self, if I went out and saw other places. But there isn't really a 'best', since you're never really done, so...I'm going to be here a while." His smile turned a little sad, at that. He still felt kind of homesick, but it was soothed by the fact he knew he would be able to visit Namek again, someday. He wasn't permanently anchored to Earth, even as its Guardian.
Tarch's next question took him by surprise, and actually got a chuckle out of him. A mischevious glint sparked in his eye, and he said, "Well, I'm Kami, so I live in Heaven, of course." He held Tarch's gaze and kept a straight face as long as he could...but then he burst out laughing again, "Hah! No, I'm kidding. There's a place out west, in the big forest. It's really old and sacred...you'd know it if you saw it, trust me. As for the rest of it..."
Chime looked up at the clouds, "I can't hear people praying to me, no. I...honestly, I hadn't really thought there would be anyone praying to me until right now, but I guess there must be. I can speak to others telepathically, and they can respond, but I need to contact them first. Unless they're also a telepath, of course, but most people aren't. Maybe someday I'll be able to hear them but...I'm not there yet. Sorry if that's dissapointing. I'm still very mortal, despite the title." He sighed. It was a lot of responsibility he'd taken on, and he still wasn't used to it.
"By the way," he turned back to look at Tarch, "You don't have to call me 'Mister.' Just Chime is okay."

Tarch locked eyes with the god, who had hailed from the heavens themselves to grave these mortals with his very presence. Or not, even the boy found himself laughing along with Chime when he burst out in his own laughter. “I thought so, so far I’ve only met those shindigs, or whatever they are, that lived in heaven. Though I guess those dead people lived in heaven for a while.” Tarch then looked around to make sure no one was listening, “or hell.” he muttered in a dramatic whisper. “Both my saiyan and human moms get mad when I swear. Oh god if they heard me on Namek.” The hybrid quickly looked at Chime a little worried about his use of the g-word. “Err, sorry.”
After that the young saiyan would just listen and nod along with Chime, his legs kicking idly as he stretched himself out. Then Tarch realized something, he had indeed been to that forest before. “Wait, you mean Fukurou? I’ve been there once actually. That’s when I met…” He shuddered, remembering that powerful dark aura he felt so long ago. He never did learn his name, even when he broadcasted himself all over earth. “I met a very bad man in there. Two of them, a big majin named Mumbo, and someone with a very unsettling feeling to him.” Tarch huddled into himself a little, “I just hope I never have to meet them again. I did meet Mr. Carro there too. The one running for president. Him I’d meet again any day, even if he did seem really grumpy all the time.” Despite the teen’s rambling about his time in the sacred forest, he realized that he had yet to say what he was looking for.
However, Chime was already answering his question about hearing prayers. His face did light up when the namekian noted how he could communicate telepathically. It did seem that his lack of prayer-hearing was a little disappointing for the kami, but Tarch just shook his head. “Nah, it’s ok. I just wanted to know if being a god was different from being… well, a guy. I guess it’s more of a title then. If it makes you feel better though…” Tarch looked at Chime with a smirk, his lips staying perfectly still. “You’re not the only one that can talk telepathically.” He gave a happy little shimmy of pride as he mentally spoke. “Anyway, it might take me a bit. I’m so used to calling everyone Ms. or Mr. so just promise you won’t get mad if I slip up a couple times.”

Chime looked down at his own hand thoughtfully for a moment and flexed his fingers a couple of times. The 'god' thing was mostly a title, like Tarch said, but something had definitely changed in him since he'd made the Dragon Balls. He wasn't more powerful than he had been, but something was...different. Chime still couldn't put his finger on it, but something had definitely shifted. He supposed he'd just figure it out as he went on. That's what he'd been doing with everything else so far.
He was pulled from his thoughts by Tarch's voice in his head, and the Namekian's antennae twitched as he looked up. He smiled back as he responded in kind, "Hey, you really are mutli-talented! Who taught you this? Or did you just figure it out on your own?" He felt silly speaking telepathically to someone right next to him after a moment, and so continued aloud, "And I won't get mad, don't worry."
"And I meant Fukurou, yeah. I actually know those two you mentioned! Mumbo and Carro. Carro is actually an ally of mine, and Mumbo is...not." Chime trailed off and frowned. When he'd met Mumbo, the majin had been alone, but Tarch said he'd seen him with some unsettling person. Who had that been? What if they were even stronger than Mumbo was? If they were still around, Chime dreaded meeting them. Mumbo was scary by himself. The thought of Mumbo with allies...he grimaced, and Tarch likely felt a wave of dread emanate out from him, just for a moment, but then it passed.
Chime set his hands on his knees and pushed himself to his feet, "Anyway...I think you'll be alright, Tarch. You seem like a good kid. If you've figured out telepathy, I bet you'll figure out your ki-sense again in no time! Maybe even better than it was before." He smiled down at the half-Saiyan, then looked up into the sky. The sun had moved across the sky somewhat since they'd began talking, and Chime didn't intend on spending his whole day in Ginger Town, "...I should probably get moving. Lots of godly things to do, y'know? But if you need me..." He tapped his own temple, and his antennae wiggled again, "You know how to reach me."

Tarch couldn’t help but laugh at their telepathic conversation. It wasn’t the first time he had spoken with someone mentally when only feet away, though that was more out of a need to stay quiet than for laughs. Though he wasn’t trying, Tarch could feel a wave of fear wash over him, light almost indiscernible from his own when he mentioned the demon tagging along with Mumbo. So he just sort of shivered it off. Instead, he would just answer Chime’s question about his telepathy.
“Bit of both for that one. Someone taught it to me by accident if that makes sense. We were meditating and it just sort of happened.” Tarch honestly couldn’t remember who it was, probably one of his friends from school. The teen was glad to hear that some of the names he had mentioned were finally recognized, being Carro and Mumbo. It was really a relief to know that god wasn’t allied with Mumbo, and even more so that he was on the future president’s side. “Man if I could vote, I’d definitely pick Mr. Carro. He’s a half breed like me and is friends with Kami.” He joked.
Chime then started to get up a bit to Tarch’s displeasure. He was greatly enjoying their talk, wanting it to continue. Though as his eyes followed the namekian, he could indeed see the sun reaching the edge of the skies.
“Wow, we’ve been talking for that long?” he wondered aloud. “Thank you for the help Chime. I think I can at least start to get the hang of this again. Good luck with your god stuff!” The godly namekian then offered to lend a hand when needed, having now gained a telepathic connection. Tarch decided to return the favor as best he could. “Will do. You too! I don’t know what I can help with but I can definitely try!”
I guess that's all she wrote! Very nice chat between the kid and god!
