Chime kept his arms crossed as he watched the Arcosian pace across the sands, nodding along as he spoke and worked through everything out loud. He thought Chime's name was interesting, to which the Namekian just shrugged. It was a pretty normal name to him.
"You sound like you're basically the opposite of me," he told Hale, "I'm a healer, and I try to fight at range when I have to. I'm not very strong, physically. But you're basically all muscle, right? Muscle and...yelling," He paused to look the Arcosian up and down for a second, like he was sizing him up, "Even if you're not gonna shoot out an energy beam like I do, I think it'd still pay to be precise. That way you're not flailing all over and wasting your energy, y'know?" Then Hale said he was smart, and even though he didn't make a big deal out of it, it still got Chime glancing away and rubbing the back of his neck, "Oh, uh. I don't think I'm that smart. I'm pretty average, back home. But, um..."
He set a hand on his chin and walked over to Hale, looking up at him with a thoughtful expression, "I think you could apply the same principles of what I was trying to show you to the techniques you already do. Instead of making a narrow beam of ki, narrow down your scream instead, if that makes sense? Direct it more? I've heard of people throwing their voice, but I don't really know how that works. Hey, maybe even learning to sign would help! That's more precise control of your voice, after all. ...Oh, hold on!"
In anticipation of Hale trying his shouting attack again, Chime took a moment to conjure another item in his hands. This time it wasn't playing cards, but a pair of comically oversized earmuffs, which he happily stuck over his ears. He grinned and gave a thumbs up, "Okay, ready!"

Hale started pointing at Chime as he responded and smiled "Yes, exactly that. We are opposite for sure in our approaches to a battle and combat in general. I'm not much of a ranged fighter at all. I like to get in and get my hands dirty as the humans say. I am strong here...", flexing towards Chime rather unnecessarily, "But you are strong here...", pointing at his temples, obviously referring to his brain. "Not that I'm dumb, but I don't claim to be a genius tactician. You fight with...what's the word for it uh...", snapping a few times as he tried to recall, "Oh! Finesse. Like with the thing you did to the rock. You are precise, like you would be the one to try and pick a lock where I would just knock the door down. Still, you are right, I do need practice. I know I do but I just don't really know how aside from repetition."
He walked pretty quickly around Chime when he looked away and gave him a playful shoulder punch. "Come on now, we both know you are smart. No need to be modest about it. Like I said, I have the muscles and you have the brains. It's just the way of it." He seemed to have caught Chime's attention as he raised a brow at the thoughtful look, standing back up straight. "Really? How so?" His eyes narrowed and his head tilted almost like a dog hearing a strange noise. "I'm not too sure what you are saying, no. Do you mean like, more concentrated or smaller? Hm, maybe I've been doing it wrong. I've been using the same muscles when I scream like when I...well scream. How to put this...", he looked off and then faced away from Chime just in case. "I like to sing, but not the normal vocalized type. Like the metal music the humans have, you know the growls? Maybe cover your ears for this, it's gonna be loud." Taking a deep breath, he leaned forward and let out a deep growling scream, almost animalistic that rung out into the vastness of the desert until he ran out of breath. He looked back to see some sort of earmuffs covering Chime's head that he hadn't seen him with before, simply assuming he had created them somehow given what he had shown before.

"Pick a lock? Hm..." Chime tapped his chin as he considered this, "I don't actually know how to do that, but I think I could learn. I could just materialize a key, and keep manipulating it until it fit the lock, but it would take a lot of trial and error...Oh!" he looked up from his muttering when Hale punched him in the shoulder, and even though he was being friendly, it still shoved the Namekian sideways a couple of steps. He laughed, though, "Heh, alright. If you say so."
He tilted his head to the side as Hale continued, "Metal music...? With growls? How is growling music? Uh..." He took another step back, and pressed his hands over the earmuffs, just in case. Then, Hale let out that guttural scream, and Chime winced as it echoed out across the desert. It didn't hurt like last time, and didn't strike him deaf, but it was still horribly loud, and pretty alarming. When Hale seemed to be done, and looked back at him, Chime pulled the earmuffs off to rest around his neck and ran up to meet the Arcosian.
"What was THAT?" he exclaimed, "There's people who sing like that?! You sounded like a dinosaur or something! I guess that'd be intimidating in a fight, but...doesn't that hurt your throat, like the other one? If you can get it not to hurt I think it'd be good. Anything to project your voice would probably help. Like if you're in a big room and need everyone to hear you, y'know? At least, that's what I think."
Drops of sweat began to roll down Chime's green face, and he looked up towards the sun burning hot above them for a second, "...Maybe it's not good advice, but I think it's worth trying. Anyway, I dunno about you, but I feel like I'm going to dry up in this heat. How did you end up all the way out here, anyway? Did you just want somewhere to yell and not bother people?"

Hale gave a heavy shrug "I don't know either, but I can't see a situation where I would need to. Not that it would matter because I can sneak about as well as an elephant. Or I could just bring you along and as you said, you could just make a key. Or, I could just break down the door cause if I need to get in somewhere that badly that I'd have to break in, then might as well go for it." He bust out laughing at Chime's response as the noise fully dissipated into the distance, wiping off the drool that had formed from holding his mouth open for that long.
"That my pointy eared friend was growling. And yes, there are people who sing like that. Me for example. " Taking a moment to turn and strike a flexing pose, but couldn't hold it as he started laughing again at the comparison. "A dinosaur, well I suppose you aren't wrong. It doesn't hurt though, no. I imagine if you weren't used to it maybe it could. I wouldn't suggest trying it to find out unless you want to lose your voice. I see why you would think that though, but it comes from here ", putting his hand on his mid-section "and I can just push out the air and, well it's hard to describe really, but it doesn't hurt either way. I'm not sure if it would be terribly practical but I wanted to show you anyways. My scream you saw earlier isn't exactly the same, but I imagine they are similar in a way."
He could see the obvious signs on Chime's face and gave a bit of a shrug mostly to his own thoughts before tensing up a bit then powering up as his body shifted, bulged, and grew substantially into his much larger brute form. Looking up with a squint, he walked around the side of Chime to stand between him and the sun, casting a large shadow over him. "Yeah it can be rough out here, no doubt. It has helped to a degree with my training as it forces me to have to push a bit harder which has helped with my stamina, but I learned fast not to do it barefoot. This sand can get hot in a hurry. Though when the sun goes down it is somehow freezing cold out here so, go figure." Hale looked off into the distance a bit as he tried to recall what exactly brought him here the first time. "Well, it's nothing too exciting, but I was just flying around, this was years ago mind you, and this happened to be one of the areas I found. It is impressively vast, and while there are the occasional bandits, or were at least, I'm usually left to my thoughts and training. The bandits don't bother me so much these days for likely obvious reasons. As for today at least, yeah that's exactly why I came out here. I can't exactly go screaming big blasts of energy into the street of say Central City."
Letting out a bit of a sight and crossing his arms, Hale looked down at Chime and just stared for a moment. "I have to ask, and I know this is out of no where, but why weren't you more afraid when you saw me? Why did you stop? Most people see me and glare, curse at me, assume I'm going to be some evil guy working with the WTF. I've had people throw stuff at me, out right attack me, you name it. I rarely get a positive let alone kind response, especially given how you found me out here, I would assume you would have just left. What makes you different? I mean aside from being a Namekian on Earth, what is it about you that is different than most on this planet?"

Chime shaded his eyes with his hand as he looked up at Hale. The Arcosian was explaining his growling/singing, but honestly, Chime didn't really get it. Wasn't singing supposed to sound nice? The yell Hale just did didn't sound nice at all, just intimidating and vaguely animalistic. He didn't want to be rude, though, so he just nodded along as Hale talked, "Do you do any, er...normal singing?" he eventually asked, "Y'know, do-re-mi, that kinda thing? Or just the grr thing?"
A moment later, Hale began to change. Chime felt it before he saw it, the Arcosian's power growing inside him seconds before his body followed suit. The Namekian was already small in comparison, but now he was absolutely dwarfed by the figure before him, and took a couple cautious steps back across the sand. Why had Hale shifted forms so suddenly? Did he have some other technique to show off? Chime squinted up at him, puzzled, as his large shadow came to loom over him, and then he understood. Hale was giving him shade! He couldn't help but laugh out loud once he realized, "Oh, hah! Thanks! I could've just made myself a parasol or something...do you want one instead?" He waved his hand, and in a flash, he was holding an umbrella. It was a similar teal-green to Hale's biogems, and he offered it up to the Arcosian. If he didn't take it, Chime would hold it over his own head instead, "I've never been to a desert before, we don't have any back on Namek. I wasn't even planning on flying in this far, but then I saw you."
Hale regarded him for a moment, and seemed to be pondering something, so Chime just tilted his head and stayed quiet for a moment. When he heard his question, he blinked in surprise, "Oh, uh, I mean. I was a little afraid, to be honest. You're an intimidating looking guy, and Arcosians are always kind of...freaky. N-no offense!" He frantically waved his hands in front of him and tried to verbally backpeddle, "I don't mean you look funny or anything! It's just...y'know, like you said, the WTF and everything. I heard stories as a kid about you guys blowing up planets. The kind you tell kids to scare them straight. But I know you're not all with the Fleet, obviously! I met this one guy, he hated the Fleet! He was his own sort of strange, though. And there was another that I met in a mall, she helped me out and was really nice! So, er," He started to look sheepish after his little rant, and scuffed his shoe in the sand, "I don't think there's anything different about me, really, I just know you're not all horrible. I do consider myself a pretty good judge of character, though, and you seem nice to me!" He looked back up at Hale and gave him a big smile.

Hale quickly raised an eyebrow, then shook his head. "Not really, not much anyways. Mostly because I don't do much singing at all. It's mostly singing along with songs and stuff like that. It isn't something I tend to share voluntarily either way so I don't think much about it." He hadn't noticed the looks Chime had given him, likely for the best given how often others had given them and how it usually made him feel. There was something he had in mind to do and that was as far as he had really thought it through, not given much thought to how it could have been seen as potentially intimidating and threatening. Hale gave him a large thumbs up as he just stood there, feeling the sun beating down on his back. "No problem. Perhaps I'm built better for such heat. Your race doesn't seem to handle it quite as well from the few I've witnessed."
Giving a heavy wave of his hand he stretched some and very slightly slumped. "Oh, no I'm alright. I've been out here a lot longer than this before. It isn't the most pleasant at times but I'm used to it. Even thought about maybe building a home out here." Looking around over Chime's head as he stood back up straight, then gave a point behind him. "Maybe over there somewhere." As the item appeared he gave his hand another wave with a smile. "I appreciate the thought and offer, but I'm okay, really. I promise." His face made it obvious he was somewhat surprised at the comment and a bit of guilt fell over him. "Well now I feel bad for making you stay out here so long. Guess my little show earlier drew some attention. Sorry about that. Maybe next time we can meet at your place. Not sure where someone like you would live here. You don't seem the staying in the big city time if I can be honest."
Again Hale felt guilty for worrying or scaring Chime at all, especially witnessing how kind the Namekian was and having no intentions of doing so. His guilt quickly turned into a hearty laugh "No that's okay. I get it." Giving a heavy shrug. "To be honest Arcosian kids are told the same type of stories, though they were more like war stories, bragging, and the like. Not that I'm proud of all of that but I imagine the stories you heard sadly weren't far from the truth. Maybe even underselling it a bit if I would have to guess." He reached down and gave Chime a pat on the shoulder then held it there. "It's okay. You don't have to explain, I wasn't offended. Glad to know I'm not the only person who has been kind to you though. You seem like a nice guy." patting the side of his arm as he moved her hand away. "Well you still seem different. Some of it is the things you can do, some of it is how you act. I've met nice people but even they looked at me in a way that I knew they didn't really want to talk to me any more than they had to. You haven't seemed to give that impression so far, which is refreshing. I'm aware I can intimidate people given my race and my size."

Chime settled the umbrella against his shoulder and gave it a little twirl, then shrugged, "Suit yourself. Namek was much more temperate than Earth, I'm still getting used to it. Still getting used to a lot of things, really," Hale mentioned he might build a house out here, and Chime turned to squint off in the direction he pointed, "You really want to live out here? I guess if you like it, and it's good for your training." He briefly considered offering to help out by materializing parts with magic, but then he remembered how complicated homes on Earth were, and how many things they needed that he didn't know how to make, and he thought better of it. So instead, he just nodded.
When Hale suggested going to his house instead, Chime just spun his umbrella again and smiled, "Oh yeah, I'm definitely not a city kinda person. I live...way far away from here, out in the woods, to the west." It was technically true, but the coy smile on the Namekian's face made it obvious he wasn't telling the entire story.
The Arcosian didn't seem offended by what Chime had said, so that was good. He'd been worried for a second there. Chime grinned up at him when he was pat on the shoulder, warm and genuine, and then an idea formed in his head. He clicked his umbrella shut, stuck it into the sands so it stood upright, and hopped backwards a few paces. "If anything's different about me, it's probably that I know not to judge someone by how they look. Case in point," And he settled into a loose fighting stance with his hands held up. It didn't look like any particular style of martial arts, just someone readying themselves for a fight, "Hit me! Hard as you can, in any way you want. Punch me, kick me, do one of your screams, it's all good." He grinned up at the Arcosian, currently more than twice his own height in his Brute form, and hopped back and forth on his toes like he'd seen some fighters do, "C'mon!"

His mind wandered a bit as he looked out over the vast desert, picture what could be, but was snapped back into reality rather quickly. "I like it out here. The temperature can be a bit annoying at times, and it isn't as if I can grow anything, though I wouldn't know how to even if I could." Bending down and grabbing handfuls of sand, he let it run through his fingers as he stood back up, looking away from Chime, turning fully around and gazing outwardly once more. "It's quiet here. Few people, plenty of open space, I can train without fear of hurting anyone, and if I need to be left alone chance are no one can find me easily. It's my kind of place." He looked down at Chime for a moment, seeing the curious look on his face after talk of his own home, but chose to let it stay for now.
Everything about the Namekian lead to further curiosity from Hale, from the way he talked, to the way he moved. He didn't seem too sure of himself as far as what he said, though his actions showed a different side that he was keeping from Hale that the Arcosian was currently oblivious of. The leap back didn't trigger anything in Hale right away, but the way he put up his hand immediately caught him off guard and his brow raised high. "I, hm, I don't know how comfortable I am doing that." There was a feeling in the pit of his stomach that told him either this was going to go very poorly or he was about to find out that Chime was a lot stronger than he looked, and while that might have been obvious given the situation, it went sailing over Hale's head.
His feet began to dig into the sand and he bent at the waist, his body starting to shrink as his power grew slowly at first, then rapidly as he changed into a more sleek form, but taller than the one he started in and still defined muscles. Immediately he took a step forward, closing the gap and swinging a punch aimed at Chime's chest as hard as he could manage.

If he needed to be left alone? That part worried Chime a little. Was Hale expecting someone to come looking for him, eventually? That he'd need somewhere to hide out? He frowned a bit, but decided not to address that for now. He had a point to prove, after all! Hale seemed kind of nervous about hitting him, but Chime just grinned and waved it off, "Don't worry! Just take a swing! If you kill me, I promise I won't haunt you or anything." He looked big and strong, sure, but so did the last guy Chime fought, and he was going all-out trying to defeat him. Hale would probably be holding back a little, with how uncertain he seemed, and between that, Chime's reinforced robes, and his natural Namekian constitution, he wasn't worried at all.
Interestingly, the Arcosian shifted forms again, this time to a deceptively smaller build, but Chime could feel his power rising. It capped off at about half of Chime's own, maybe a little more, and then the punch came. Despite the difference in their power levels, Hale was still just plain stronger, physically. Chime was basically a string bean. The strike got past his feeble guard and sent him sprawling back into the sand, but he quickly sat back up, and he just grinned and rubbed his chest where the strike had landed, "Hey, you're really strong! Okay," And he hopped to his feet and pointed his finger towards Hale, "My turn!"
A bead of blue energy formed on the tip of his finger, then shot out in a beam straight for Hale's chest, at about the same spot he'd punched Chime. It was the Kanrikosen, the same technique he'd used to blast a perfect hole through the stone just minutes prior. He was being too cavalier with his attack, for sure, but Chime was confident he could quickly heal whatever damage he did. But he also forgot, fairly often, that most species weren't as naturally resilient as Namekians.

Hale was genuinely worried about swing at Chime, but he didn't want to seem disrespectful or as if he were taking him lightly, so he swung with all he had. Unfortunately he had no idea of his own strength let alone that of the Namekian, so what he thought would be a solid shot would likely not end up as well off as expected. The moment he felt the connection he winced a bit closing his eyes, then felt Chime give and opened them immediately, seeing him fall, but quickly get up barely if at all harmed. Slowly Hale's eyebrow rose as if trying to escape from his face, not in any capacity able to hide his surprise. "Wha...", was all he could manage to push out. All of the fighters on Earth he had dealt with were rather large except the one Saiyan, but even she was more muscular than had the frame of a fighter in comparison to Chime. Hale's first thought was to be mentally dismissive, assuming this was another one of his magic tricks similar to what he had shown earlier, because clearly he had to be stronger. He was in one of his smaller forms and still he was considerable bigger. Perhaps when he closed his eyes for that moment Chime did something he didn't see, yeah that had to be it!
His eyes focused on the finger that suddenly pointed towards him, thinking he was about to be attacked, but with some sort of strong poke, and got into a position to brace himself. A moment later the energy started to form and a beam shot out faster than he could catch a glimpse of let alone react to, and it felt like a mixture of a punch and a sharp needle hitting him all at once. Hale didn't fall backwards too dramatically, but clutched at his chest and fell to his knee with a clear pained look on his face, and a mixture of shock to go with it. As desperately as he could he tried to keep from showing the full extent of the pain, but the hit seemed to momentarily weaken him, making his legs a bit wobbly and all he could do was stay on the one knee and try not to completely double over and curse and scream. Hale thought for a moment the pain for starting to subside, but the moment he started to straighten up and stand he could feel it throughout his entire chest like a shock and he flopped over unintentionally dramatically grabbing at his chest and just laying there letting out a quiet. "Ow..."

Part of Chime was proud of himself that he could bring down someone as strong looking as Hale with one attack like that, but part of him felt a little bad. He might've gone overboard a tad. Hale had only punched him, after all, and Chime responded by shooting a laser beam. But Chime's punches were really weak, he didn't want to embarrass himself! And Hale wouldn't be hurting for long. That was how Chime justified it to himself.
He jogged over to where Hale was laying and plopped himself down in the sands next to him. He leaned over so his bald green head blocked the sun from Hale's view, and he just grinned as he said, "See? I know not to judge someone by their appearance. I'm a pretty good example myself, not to toot my own horn or anything. Here, 'scuse me, lemme just..." And he nudged the arcosian's hand away from where it was clutching at his chest, to replace it with both of his own. Blue energy formed around his hands, the same color as the Kanrikosen he just shot, but this time the light was gentle instead of piercing, and pulsed slowly, like a heartbeat. Over just a few moments, any damage Chime had done with his attack would be healed up and knit back together, like nothing had happened at all. It might've felt a big warm or tingly, but wouldn't hurt. Once he was done, Chime sat back, still with that grin on his face.
"So? How're you feeling?"

"That hurt ya know!", his eye twitching from his straining not to fully show the pain, though that ship had sailed given he was doubled over on the ground near in the fetal position grabbing at his chest. "Yes yes lesson learned. But dang, you could have warned me. I thought you were just gonna punch back." He shot Chime a bit of a glare, not so much angry, but he wasn't sure what to feel towards him and in general outside of embarrassed by the whole ordeal. He wasn't the most prideful person, but it was hard not to have a bruised ego laying in the sand borderline pouting after being shot at by a Namekian far smaller.
Hale slowly moved his hands away, but flinched and almost slapped Chime's away when he moved both close to the large mark on his chest, stopping short as he realized what he was doing. He could feel an energy that was almost hot and cold at the same time at the spot of the attack, and it instantly felt better as if the damage was being undone more than just healed. It was possibly the most awkward yet calming feeling Hale had ever felt and he had no idea how to react but to stare blankly at Chime as he was doing it. "What the..." There was no pain, no cruise, not even a mark from where the attack had struck, and the look on Hale's face said more than he ever could. "I'm feeling confused for starters. I'm feeling like I want to punch you again, but hug you at the same time. I feel like I want you to teach me whatever that is you just did, but I have a feeling if I can't even do that finger blast thing you do, I'm not going to be healing anyone in my lifetime." slowly he got to his feet as if expecting a jolt of pain, but it was as if he was refreshed from a long sleep and was ready to go. "I feel freaking amazing. I need you on speed dial."

Once the healing was done and Hale stood up, Chime leaned back on his hands and watched him, looking quite pleased with himself. The arcosian seemed confused, and he couldn't help but find that a little bit funny. He looked up at him with a cheeky smile and laughed when he heard his reaction.
"Hah! I'm open to punches or hugs, just warn me first, okay? As for teaching you..." He hopped up from the ground and dusted sand off the back of his pants, then went back to where he'd stuck his umbrella in the ground, "I don't know if I can do that. I could show you how to shoot a beam of ki, or materialize objects, or even talk to people with your mind, but healing...it's very complicated. It uses a combination of ki-control and magic, and you have to be very careful not to grow the injured parts of the body back wrong. Like growing toenails where there's supposed to be skin, something gross like that." He shuddered at the image, then opened the umbrella again with a pop.
"And besides all that, it's an ancient Dragon Clan technique. I'm not really qualified to teach anyone that. I'm still technically just an acolyte back home, heh..." He looked up to the sky and chuckled a bit at the irony of it. On Earth he was the Guardian, but back on Namek, he was still just Chime, that kid with his head in the clouds. His expression grew a little somber as he thought of home, and he sighed.
"...Anyway, I think that's all I can show you." He turned back to Hale with a smile, much more subdued than a moment ago, "I'm curious to see this home of yours when it's done, though. If you wouldn't mind."

Hale just raised his hands and waves them at some of his suggestions, shaking his head with wide eyes. "No I'm good. I don't need to magically create things because I would likely get myself in trouble. I also don't think I'm too keen on speaking to people just with my mind. There is far too much in there as it is I don't want to accidentally send to someone.", rubbing his neck and laughing a bit at the mental image of his healing description. "Image how useful that would be in a fight though. You could grow a foot on someone's back, or a leg on their forehead just because. Trying fighting someone with a set of noses coming out of your butt cheeks. Use your powers for good, Chime", laughing again. "Don't worry though, I don't actually expect you to attempt to teach me something like that. I wouldn't even know how to grasp starting. I nearly blew a hole in my foot trying that beam thing you do, so maybe something like healing would just...not go so well in my hands."
His brow just raised a bit then furrowed. "I have no idea what a Dragon Clan is, but I know I'm not that.", then giving a rather impressed look. "Well if you are just an acolyte, then I am a bit intimidated to imagine a master equivalent, ya know? Not someone you would likely want to make an enemy of. Suddenly you end up with a second heart where your kidney should be." His whole body slumped a bit at Chime's admission, but who was he really to argue. Most of what Chime was capable of was a level of mastery with things Hale simply couldn't grasp. Even outside of healing he didn't even have a minor semblance of control over his own ki, so even if he could teach it might be a long frustrating road for Hale to learn. He tried to perk up some, and nodded heavily. "Well, I have no problem with that. It might be a while. Building and working with my hands, one of the few skills outside of fighting." Walking up next to Chime, he put an arm around his shoulder and waved his hand in front of them both "Just picture a large tower standing in the middle of this desert. A true signal of strength. A home to me, and maybe one day others, but...that's a whole other topic."

"Noses out of your buttcheeks...?"
Chime just stared up at Hale for a good minute after that, completely baffled. Why would he do that? How would that even work...? The image of someone with noses stuck on their butt, in all different sizes, shapes, and species, popped into the poor Namekian's head, and it took him a moment to shake himself out of it.
"...Uh! Right, sorry. I forget everyone doesn't know what that is. Dragon Clan is like me, we heal and practice magic. Then there's the Warrior Clan, they're...well, warriors. They fight, it's pretty straight forward. And then there's the Mazoku Clan...they're kind of complicated. There's a long history there," he waved his hand in the air, he didn't feel like going through a history lesson now, "But that's basically Namekians. And, uh," He moved to fidget with his orange beads, a bit nervously, "I was low-ranking when I left, but I'd probably be a bit higher if I went back, if that makes you feel any better? But I can't exactly promote myself, so." And he just shrugged.
Hale's arm fell around Chime's much smaller shoulders, and he jumped a little, not exactly expecting it, but didn't move away. He gazed out at the area the arcosian was indicating and began to imagine the sort of place he was talking about. A tower. He smirked a little, "A tower, huh? Now I have to see this. I've got some experience with towers, I live near what is probably the best, tallest one around. So you'll have to work hard to impress me." He looked up at Hale, still with that coy smirk on his face, as he issued his little challenge.
