For weeks Hale had been in deep discussion with new friends, deep thought with himself, and keeps a close eye on the events going on where the safety of Earth was concerned. It was time to get serious, and it was time to stop talking and start doing. Standing at the entrance of the Pride Troopers headquarters, Hale's stomach was filled with figurative butterflies and he realized he had no real idea what he was going to say or do. Taking a deep breath and raising his arm, he knocked hard on the front door with no idea what else to do in this specific situation. Now it was only a matter of waiting to see who if anyone answered and go from there.
Fairly short intro but just trying to get right to the point

If anything, it felt good to be home...
Well, home? It felt a bit strange to call the Headquarters his home, but it is where Terryn had spent most of his days these past months. The annoying squeaks of windows being rubbed echoed through his room. Things surely got dirty while he was away for those months...All the surfaces were caked with dust, and you could barely see out of the window!
''Stupid...Ow!'' Terryn yelped as a sudden stinging pain surged through his arm. He sighed, and smacked the wet sponge onto the window once more. His sickness was still tearing away at his resolve, causing every movement he made to fill him with intense pain, no matter how slight. The Captain grumbled as he continued to violently scrub his window, trying to remove some nasty brownish stain. He didn't even want to know how that got there. Or what is was... Ew!
He cursed at himself, wishing he could do something more productive. Investigate the numerous WTF sightings, train his fellow Troopers, get in contact with that strange Rebellion of Arcosians...Just, anything! But no, this damn sickness just HAD to hold him back!
''This...fucking...STAIN! AA-!'' Terryn suddenly yelled in frustration, tossing the wet sponge into a bucket filled with water and cleaning solution. The next best thing to do was a violent cleaning session, but even that was proving fruitless. The Captain clutched his head as it throbbed with an intense pain, groaning weakly.
Terryn's arms plopped down onto the windowsill, sighing as he slowly dug his face into the space between his arms. Sad, tired eyes glanced out his window to the outside world. ''What the hell do we do now...?'' He whispered to himself, clueless. Not even Carro had found a cure to his illness yet...And if Carro couldn't figure something out, then who would?
...And that stain was STILL on his window!
The Captain stood up with a weird sense of childlike determination. He was going to do something! Anything! He wasn't going to be defeated this easily! With a puff, Terryn left the Captain's Quarters, clad in his brightly-coloured uniform. Yet as he strolled through the building's vast hallways, Terryn heard a heavy noise echo from far away...Someone was at the door?
''C-coming...?!'' Terryn yelled confusedly, putting some power into his step as he hurried toward the front door. Maybe a civilian in need of some help? Some girl scouts selling cookies? Without a second thought, Terryn swung the door open, and was met face-first with the sight of a hulking Arcosian.
The bias within Terryn caused a shock of fear to run through his spine for a moment. His eyes widened ever-so-slightly, trying his best to contain his shock. This was the last thing Terryn expected...!
''Uhm, hello...C-can I help you?''
Terryn slowly opened the door further, blinking up at the large Arcosian.

Synthesia slept on a tree branch. Inside of the base.
How, you may ask? Well, it was simple- he couldn't bring his 'office' outside, so he'd just bring the 'outside' into his office. Office wasn't really a good term for it- it was the official name for the room given to Synthesia, but frankly, the child was 7. Terryn didn't trust him to do any paperwork- rightfully so, as Synthesia would just grumble about how paper was a waste of trees. Oh, and he didn't know how to write properly. That too. But mostly the former.
So, instead of an office, it was a bedroom. The great tree that Synthesia had grown many months prior still lingered behind the base, one of it's great branches leaning deep into the window. Synthesia used this branch as his bed- sleeping in a normal bed made him uncomfortable. The other things in his office was stuff used to take care of the tree, and some other stuff, like fan-mail and monologue notes. However, they weren't being used right now- because the child of nature was still asleep.
He snoozed on the branch with a tree-plushie- a bit redundant, but there really wasn't too many trees up north. Synthesia wanted to go back West to be in Fukurou and hang out with his new pal God and that weird cat, but he had been staying in North City for a decent while now. He had stationed himself here to keep watch on his Captain- just in case he relapsed or needed help with anything. The illness was a killer, and Synthesia wasn't really keen on being useless to the Pride Troopers again. Besides, he was the only one of them who knew Magic since Neo had gone on a journey herself- if anyone could keep him stable, it was him.
But it certainly didn't seem like Synthesia was here with purpose, for he was slacking, like usual. Slacking until his slumber was rudely disrupted by someone knocking hard on the front door. Falling off his branch. Synthesia got to his feet, wiping the fatigue from his eyes. He held his tree plushie to his chest, grumbling something about corporate shills, before shuffling out of his room, irritation plain on his face.
He paused once he saw Terryn in the doorway. Synthesia went on his tip-toes to try and peer over Terryn's shoulder, but he was a little too far away. Synthesia began to approach, holding the tip of his tree plushie with his right hand. "Is it the Bao-O's people again? Tell them we don't need their damn sponsorship, and to not- oh." Well, this wasn't a low-brow vaguely-charismatic door-to-door salesman. No, this was a lizard. Synthesia squinted, his small size allowing him to stand right next to Terryn. He didn't like lizards. Not at all.
"Do we know you?" Synthesia scrunched up his nose. "Are you a friend of that Arcosian who I beat up? Or maybe one of the horns Arcosian's little goons? Or maybe you're from the World Trade Fleet, looking to hand yourself in? Well! I don't want any of those! Unless you're turning yourself in, actually- I'd like that a lot."

Hale stood a bit blankly as the door opened, surprised to see none other than the leader of the Pride Troopers answering his knock. It took him a moment but he cleared his throat, and gave a bit of a wave. "So I'm not sure how to go about selling this so to speak, but I'll just get to the point. I'm here to join- well let me start again; I'm here in hopes of joining the Pride Troopers. I'm sure you don't get a lot of people quite literally walking up and knocking on the door, but I wasn't sure how else to go about it." Watching the poorly hidden look of shock covering the human's face. It wasn't an uncommon look given he was tall for his species, and being an Arcosian at the door tended to give most people pause as it was.
It took him a moment to catch up to what the...whatever race this person was...had said given his excited introduction, but he almost laughed and quickly sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "I don't know what Arcosian you beat up for one. For two I don't know any other Arcosians that I care to talk to that are on this planet. And three, while I know you likely didn't mean it as an insult, not every Arcosian is aligned with the World Moron Fleet." his eye heavily twitching just thinking about them and the bad name they managed to give every single Arcosian not associated with them. Putting his hand down he smiled and just gave a bit of a nod mostly to himself. "Honestly, I'm here to join you guys. This isn't some joke or a ploy or a trick or whatever else you might ask. I've lived on Earth for a little over a decade now and after a long talk with a few friends I feel it is probably time to stop watching and get into the thick of it, so to speak. So I guess ask whatever questions you might have, and I'm ready to do what needs to be done to join."

...Oh wow, this guy really didn't beat around the bush, did he?
At first, Terryn was a bit suspicious at the Arcosian's hasty offer, but his strangely 'Earthling' way of talking caught Terryn by surprise. Whereas every other Changeling the Captain had met so far was equal parts arrogant as they were eloquent, this one sounded like he might as well have been Terryn's neighbour.
''And...You're serious, about this?-'' The Captain spoke with hesitance, still taken back by the entire situation. Terryn wondered if the Changeling knew what he was going to get himself into, considering how casually he spoke about joining, and the fact that he literally just showed up at their doorstep. This hadn't been the first time someone simply showed up at the Pride Troopers' HQ to aid in their cause, though. Neo sprung to mind! ...Yet then again, Neo was twelve years old. A child.
...And speaking of children.
Terryn glanced over his shoulder as he heard a familiar voice, only to see part of Synth's head directly behind him. 'Shit-' He hissed in thought, knowing almost exactly how Synth would react. But before Terryn could do anything, Synth had already started blabbing without a shred of thought.
''Synth!'' He yelled, tone as if he had just caught his dog pissing on the carpet. Terryn gave Synth a harsh glare, before turning to the Arcosian with a hefty sigh. ''I-I'm sorry, please excuse him. He's a bit wary when it comes to your...species. Fleet 'n all, y'know?'' Terryn hurried to correct Synth's blatant racism, yet the stranger had already taken to responding. Surprisingly though, he didn't seem all too angry about it, even mocking the Fleet's name while he was at it...
''...Huh,'' Was all Terryn could mutter as the Changeling continued to explain his reasons for wanting to join. He was calm and sure about it, and he seemed as genuine as could be. Terryn didn't have much of a reason to distrust his story. Arcosians had this strange sense of pride that would surely keep them from parading around as a goodie-two-shoes. None of them would ever stoop that low. ...Right?
''It's been a while since we've seen someone so eager to help us out. WE, appreciate the gesture.'' The Captain smiled warmly, momentarily glaring at Synth as he adressed them both. ''Isn't that right, Synth?''
Coughing into his hand, Terryn returned his sights to the Arcosian. ''Yet we don't just accept anyone into our ranks. You do know what we stand for, yeah? To protect Earth at all costs. If you want to join us...-'' Terryn paused, and his eyes lowered. ''You'd have to be willing to DIE for this planet.'' Terryn's voice was low, yet strikingly clear. He was serious.
''Besides that,'' Terryn paused, and took a step to the side to give Synth a better view of their potential ally. ''Troopers are strong. While we're a team, everyone has to be able to carry their own weight. You seem tough, but I've kicked people like you into the dirt before. Effortlessly.'' The Captain's tone was starting to grow more and more intimidating and hardy. While excited at the prospect of a new Trooper, he had to make sure he could deal with the pressure.
The Captain crossed his arms, a smug grin forming on his face. He had just gotten an idea!
''Tell you what!'' Terryn spoke up, glancing at Synth with a foreboding chuckle. ''If you can beat Synthesia here in a one-on-one fight, I'll consider it. How's that sound?'' He smiled at the Changeling, before turning to Synthesia. He figured the Trooper wouldn't be able to pass up an opportunity like this
''Weeeell...? Whaddya think, Synth?'' Terryn asked him with a sly wink.

"Hoh? So that's how it is, then?"
Synthesia decided to ignore his other statements. He wouldn't be appreciative of the Arcosian- not yet. He seemed honest, which was nice- Synthesia was bad at reading lies, after all. But, for right now, this Arcosian's personality was irrelevant. Synthesia smiled a coy smile, walking straight up to the Arcosian without any fear betrayed in his features. He looked up at him, smile still present on his face. "Well? You heard him. You need to be willing to give your very life to the cause."
Synthesia turned on his heel. Now he was excited. This was getting interesting. "Come, then. Only savages fight on the street- and at the very least, I know I'm not a savage. Follow me." Synthesia motioned his head to the side and walked further into the base, casting glances over his shoulder every once in a while to make sure the Arcosian was still there. Shortly after they entered, Synthesia opened up a set of double-doors- it was a large training gym.
Synthesia skipped out into the large open space, holding out his arms. "Ah, I love empty space, don't you?" Synthesia spun around again to face the Changeling. "There's no dirt here, but a floor will need to do, I think." Slow, methodical steps around the perimeter of the gym. "You know, I don't know why Terryn would want me to fight you. That's not my style." Slow steps to the middle of the arena. "Anyone can have a lot of strength- I wanna see how you think." Synthesia grabbed a lock of his hair. With a swift chop, a lock fell off, and Synthesia held the hair in his hand. He dropped the hair right in the center of the arena, and then slammed his hands on the earth around it.
Roots sprung forth from the hair, the hair morphing into seeds, bark, leaves and various other tree-like extremities. The roots pierced the floor, hitting the rich soil below- the wood of the tree was thin, and it looked rather fragile. Synthesia gave it a pat. "We're gonna play a little game of point defense. If you snap this tree, I'll consider you the winner of this match. How about it? Well, it's not like you really have a choice- if you really wanna be a Trooper, you'll need to accept, no?"
Synthesia leaned against his creation. He was looking forward to this.

Instead of speaking as much as he previously was, Hale decided it was a good time to keep quiet and listen for a while, nodding a lot with a near somber look on his face. There was much he could share about how he had been willing to die for something, but this was neither the time nor place. The human's proposition however cause a grin to creep onto Hale's face that kept getting wider the more he spoke "Oh I am more than willing if he is" crossing his arms and nodding towards Synthesia. Seems he was in fact up for it and was leading the way with an at least outwardly pleasant demeanor given how he had talked to Hale just moment earlier. His eyes were darting around as he took in the halls he walked through, taking in where he was and what a place like this meant. A large set of double-doors waited not far into the building to Hale's disappointment, but he was sure he could take a tour of the place later, assuming all went well. While Synthesia bounded in, Hale took his time, breathing deeply and looking around them. He had to take things serious here even if this might end up enjoyable, but if he didn't manage to defeat whatever this humanoid was then he had a feeling he wasn't getting much further than where he stood. Hale gave a heavy shrug with his arms crossed once more as he kept a close eye on his would be opponent, trying to read him before the fight started to get a sense of how fluid his motions were, if he was a light stepper, and for the most part there was a lot less to read than he was hoping for. "I suppose you are right there, as anyone can have strength. I have a long ways to go in a lot of ways, but hopefully I can show something that will impress." Hale immediately took a few steps back and narrowed his eyes as he watched the display, unsure of what exactly was going on. "Just snap the tree? Seems like this is going to be one of those easier said than done scenarios, but I suppose I can manage. Or kami I hope so." Rolling his neck with a few loud pops, Hale took another step back and got into what looked like a horse stance and closed his eyes. "Given that I can't read your power, and I can only imagine it is significant enough if you are a protector of Earth, I hope you won't mind if I go all out from the start. I've made the mistake of taking things too slow recently and getting punished for it." Slowly his eyes opened as energy swirled around his body, his muscles pushing against his skin as they threatened to break free as the bulged. Arcosian transformations were purely physical on the surface, but the way their energy reshaped itself caused the body to take on different forms to accommodate. Hale was skipping past his first few forms and began to shift into his true form, which very few had seen since he had come to Earth. In a sudden growl, his energy shot out, causing the tree to move ever-so-slightly, as a dark green energy swirled then settled around Hale's body. "Just say when."Hale powered up to his True Form. A wide smiled formed on the Captain's face as he noted Synthesia's enthusiasm. There was something malicious about it, he could tell. But that was fine. It's not like this could get too out of hand with Terryn around, after all. Besides, he wanted to see the extent of Synth's abilities too. It's been a while since he saw the glorified treehugger actually fight.
''Good, good!'' Terryn nodded enthusiastically, turning to Hale as he accepted the challenge. Perhaps it was a bit concerning too see him so eager to swap fists with a child, but then again...Terryn did ask. Man, this was kindof messed up, wasn't it?
Putting that thought aside for now, Terryn followed along, allowing Synthesia to lead them to the 'Training Hall'. As they entered the large open area, Terryn took to himself and walked over to the outer edge of the room, keeping a close eye on the Arcosian and his fellow Trooper.
Crossing his arms, Terryn grinned to himself as he saw Synthesia use his strange, otherworldly magic to surprising effect. As the tree sprouted forth and Synthesia offered his challenge, the Captain's smirk widened. He knew Synthesia was the perfect candidate for this!
A curious eye moved over to the Arcosian as he spoke up. He was strangely rational for his species, and actually gave the Trooper the benefit of the doubt. Terryn figured that most other Changelings would underestimate Synthesia on behalf of their own pride, but not this one. A violent flurry of energy washed over the room as he transformed, the pressure enough to put the Captain off-balance!
''Huh, not bad...'' Terryn muttered to himself under the intense gust of wind, shifting his stance. He wasn't too surprised, though. Changelings possessed a ridiculous amount of natural strength...He just wondered if Synth could keep up.
''Uh, before you two start!'' The Captain cut the two off, shouting from the outer edge of the room. ''This is only to see what you're capable of! This isn't some all-out deathmatch, 'k? If you take things too far, I'm gonna step in, a'ight?'' Terryn asked in a stern tone, exchanging a glance toward the two of them.
'That goes for you too, Synth.''
With that, Terryn stepped back once more and curiously awaited the start of their match. He kept a curious eye on the Arcosian in particular. Something about him felt...Familiar. As if he was being reminded of someone.
It was probably nothing though, right? Yeah.

Well, looks like the stage had been set. Synthesia stood, arms crossed, staring at Hale as he powered up. His long, green hair whipped in the wind, but the confident smile did not leave his face even for a second. This was his home turf, this was his kind of battle. "Please, Terryn! I'm more than capable of showing restraint. Let's see if our friend here can do the same. If he doesn't, well, he'll learn his lesson fast."Synthesia closed his eyes and clasped his hands together as if in prayer. Moments later, green wisps departed from the ground and flew into Synthesia, the shadows on his eyes turning a bright orange instead of their usual tone. He opened his eyes, his orange pupils with cat irises peering out at his opponent. "Let's begin."The ground around Hale drained of color. Seconds later, pillars made of pure dirt would erupt where he stood- each as hard as a rock, and faster than dirt should ever move. The pillars weren't positions directly under his feet, but rather, around his feet in a circular pattern. Synthesia wasn't pulling any punches- this was a test, after all. An important one. Was his opponent prepared? He'd find out in the next ten seconds.

He wasn't oblivious to the glances and looks he continued to get, but his focus stayed on the newly sprouted tree, and more importantly Synthesia. "Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt anyone. That being said, I don't plan on losing" Hale sucked in air through his teeth as he slowly bent down and touched his hands to the ground, getting into a bestial position almost on all fours, distorting the aura around him. Slowly he moved closer, walking in similar fashion to a large gorilla, circling all the way around putting Synthesia between himself and Terryn, watching what seemed to be some type of prayer or possibly a technique.
He clearly wasn't being given any further chance to analyze the situation as sudden pillars of earth shot up, catching Hale off guard, forcing him to react and jump straight up. Using the momentum of the rising pillars, he pushed off the top of them to propel himself into the air at an angle, clenching his first and pulling back his fist as he shot towards not Synthesia, but the tree he guarded.

"Nice try."
Hale barreled towards the tree. Full-force, there was almost no conceivable way to have it survive- Synthesia couldn't move to block for it, either. To any onlooker, that would be it- that would be the fight, the tree in shambles, Synthesia's pride dashed to pieces.
But that wasn't what happened, was it?
That's because as Hale's approach got closer, he would find his fist met with air. Where the tree, once rooted in the ground, once stood, was nothing. Instead, the tree unfurled it's leaves a few meters away, in the opposite direction from where Hale collided with nothing. Synthesia crossed his arms and smirked.
"The tree is mine. It's as much of a part of me as my arms or my legs. I never said the test would be fair, did I?" Synthesia pointed his finger forwards, his smile not leaving. The leaves on the tree rose- then sharpened. Seconds later, they launched out of the tree towards Hale, thousands of tiny razor blades aiming to slow him down.

As he shot forward and closer to the tree he didn't have a sense of pride or a sense that he had won, but more one of confusion that he didn't see a direct movement to protect the tree or to stop his movement toward it. There was a heavy feeling in the pit of his stomach and at this point he had made it harder to dodge if he needed to and had inadvertantly left himself wide open to attacks. Just a few feet away and still Synthesia hadn't moved, but moments before he connected the tree itself moved, sending Hale past it, and having to brace and roll to not collide with Terryn.
A low growl escape his throat as he turned, his back now about two feet from the Pride Trooper's leader, and his eyes fixed on the planet creature with a scowl. "Now that was dirty", rolling his neck slowly. "Well if that's how we are playing, then off come the gloves" shaking his hands and giving a bit of a bounce as if loosening up. As Synthesia's hand rose, Hale loudly sucked in air and stood up straight with his aura pushing outward, then a bright green light glowing and growing from his opening jaws. The razor petals launched with a speed he wasn't expecting, and in this moment he regretted having a technique that in times like this took such a long time to charge.
In a moment panic and luck, Hale's upper body lurched forward with the attack just a few feet from his face, sending a blast of energy towards the pedals and headed towards the sneaky plant.

Looked like things were getting serious- that attack had some weight to it. Synthesia clicked his teeth as his leaves evaporated into nothingness, the power of the other attack exceeding their own. Synthesia wanted to conserve more energy, but it clearly wasn't an option here without sustaining major damage himself. Synthesia raised his hand and pointed a finger at the oncoming attack- seconds later, the earth erupted in front of him, creating a super-strong barrier that completely dispersed the attack on impact.
Moments later, Synthesia popped out from behind the wall- he popped out running. He planted his hand on the top of the wall and vaulted over- but his hand didn't leave the wall. Instead, the wall came with his hand, the dirt forming into sturdy chains made entirely of dirt. Using the momentum he gained from vaulting over the barrier, Synthesia launched the dirt chains- said chains now having sharp, dirt-blades on the end of them. Using his free hand, he grabbed a different portion of the wall which also fell apart into chains- he made a broad, sideways swing with this one.

As his attack hit the wall, he let out a grumble and wiped his mouth, giving a fast glance back to see just how close he was to Terryn. Bending down, he slid his foot back and planted it hard as he saw Synthesia come out from behind the makeshift wall, almost glaring at him. This guy was tricky, and quite frankly the first person he fought that didn't run in and trade blows hand to hand, which was both refreshing and frustrating at the same time. Hale was far from an experienced fighter when it came to anything aside cage fights and wrestling rings so this was far from his comfort zone.
His body stayed perfectly still as his eyes followed the plant guy, expecting him to jump similar to how he had earlier, but stared a bit confused as the wall seemed to shift and move, creating some sort of earth chains. "The hell..." he muttered to himself, but had to snap out of his staring and move. His feet launched him straight forward, running as fast as he could, expecting a downward attack, but the chain came swinging around horizontally, smacking him right in the side of his arm with a painful and loud whipping sound. Hale's first reaction was to angrily reach out and grab for the chain, finding it pulling through his hands before he could manage a grip enough to yank as hard as he could and stomped down on the ground to pivot and swing his body, starting to spin as fast as he could physically manage.

'Damn!' Terryn thought in amazement as he watched the two's battle unfurl. Synthesia's eccentric but ingenious way of utilizing his magic to fight the Changeling was remarkable, unlike anything the Captain had seen before! It might've even given Terryn some trouble, had he stood where Hale now was!
The Arcosian, however, took a vastly more simple approach to battle, it seemed. Punch first, ask questions later, and strategize even later than that. He was tough as nails, Terryn noted that much. The only thing running through Terryn's mind was if Hale could adapt to Synthesia's magical barrage, or if he would continue to throw himself at him without a thought.
As the Changeling was backed into a corner, he came awfully close to Terryn. The Captain took a few paces to the left, his arms still crossed. ''Good going, but Synth is great at what he does! You're gonna have to think out of the box to outsmart him!'' Terryn yelled toward Hale as he continued to walk further away from the ensuing chaos.
Terryn continued to keep a close eye on their battle, yet found himself having difficulty keeping up with their immense speed. 'Synth's really gotten stronger lately, but this guy isn't bad either...' He noted, smiling proudly.
Humming in thought, Terryn realized he wasn't going to be able to judge Hale's abilities properly if he couldn't even keep up with him. Terryn hissed a soft breath through clenched teeth as his eyes closed. Gusts of wind circled him briefly, before expanding into a low but heavy boom. Fiery Ki danced around the Captain's form like embers to a flame, controlled yet powerful.
Suddenly, everything seemed to slow down for Terryn, their moves still fast, but not untrackable. He could keep a proper eye on their fight now!
''Don't mind me, just keep going!''
