AFTERLIFE IMPROVEMENT PACKAGE
In order to enhance the flavour, feel, and overall fun of the Afterlife for those characters who choose to stay dead, we're going to be implementing a few fairly major updates. It's fairly clear that the Afterlife feels a little bare at the moment, and not just because it's completely empty. Hopefully with these tweaks, it will start to feel more like a fleshed out space of its own, and less like a holding tank for the dead and desperate.
UPDATE 1 | SUB-BOARDS
In order to help expand the actual playing environment, a handful of sub-boards will be added for players usage. Additional boards may also be accessible to those players who have proven themselves worthy by their actions in life. You're still free to invent your own locations as you wish in the parent board, just like any section of the forum.
Ogretown: Ogres have to live somewhere. This neat and orderly town houses a number of King Yemma’s most trusted employees. Be very careful if you come here: there are strict rules around orderliness and cleanliness. Breaking them is not advised.
Endless Meadow: Vast plains of beautiful grassland stretching as far as the eye can see, with brightly coloured wildflowers and winding paths for hiking. These parts are known for their tranquility, but once the initial appeal starts to wear off, some could accuse them of being a little on the boring side.
Lesser Worlds: There are plenty of minor planetoids throughout the Upper Worlds. Whether they’re presided over by a small-time Shinjin or serve as a mere tourist destination for the dead and bored, spirits won’t be wanting for travel locations.
Great Lake: The grounds around Hell’s giant, red lake serve as a comfortable beach destination for those trying to pass the time. You can kick back, relax, pretend you’re getting a tan or even take a romantic canoe-ride. If you have to go to Hell, at least you can enjoy yourself.
Ashen Mountains: These mountain ranges are often home to wandering souls, but ogre guides also lead the interested on treks throughout. With blackened rock and soot, they’re not the most appealing locale, and they’ve become home to some of Hell’s less content sorts. Beware if you travel alone.
Bramble Forests: Forests of bramble, thorn and gnarled trees. These parts can be a nightmare to navigate and play host to some souls who have entered, only to get lost in the dark. Ogres routinely have to orchestrate parties to fish out such souls. Try to remember your survival skills if you journey through here.
UPDATE 2 | XP MAIN BENEFITS & LTOS
No longer will fighters be the sole beneficiaries of the Afterlife's advantages. Starting in the near future, new items will be implemented that will function similar to those you can purchase in the living world. However, these will be a little cheaper than their living counterparts, making them more economical along with their unique flavouring. Of course, these can not be traded to the living world unless the character in question is revived. Living ogres and shinjin may not purchase these items.
In addition to this, there will be unique Afterlife LTOs that will be made available for longer periods than the living world LTOs. These will have unique effects and flavouring. Unlike the discounted items, ogres and shinjin will be permitted to purchase these provided they are currently in the Afterlife.
UPDATE 3 | AFTERLIFE TUTORS
Without going into too much detail, we are confirming that there will be tutors available for the select few that prove themselves worthy of attention from certain, well-known teachers.
UPDATE 4 | DE THREADS
Death-Enabled threads while you're already dead?
This intended to increase the feeling of stakes in the Afterlife. Dead characters may now initiate DE threads in a similar fashion to characters in the living world. This can include the one thread you are allowed per use of your ogre minion's trait, meaning villainous characters will be able to effectively invade heaven! Or vice-versa, if there's some deep unsettled grudge. If a character succeeds in conquering a sub-board, they may engage there freely thereafter until the board is wrested back into its rightful hands. Be careful, however: if your goal is too grandiose, you may find yourself being swiftly kicked back to reality by a certain ogre.
Death in one of these threads still hurts. If you die, you will need to pay 10,000 XP or 12,500 PL in order to be regenerated.
UPDATE 5 | MAJOR TOURNAMENT
As was hinted in the description of the Tournament Grounds, if enough characters end up in the Afterlife, a major tournament may be held pitting the best of heaven and hell against one another. This may have some form of reward, however modest, and will be run by an important dignitary in heaven.
UPDATE 6 | NEW GAME+: SOUL RECYCLING
You've heard of New Game+ Classic and New Game+ Lite. Now, there's New Game+ Soul Recycling. This will function effectively identical to the other two options, except that it will serve as a kind of 'out' for players who have been in the Afterlife for an extended period and wish to move on from that character. Ordinarily, if you were to engage in Afterlife RP after dying, you would only be eligible for a 60% New Game+. With this new program, any character that has been active in the Afterlife for an extended period of time will be eligible for a 70% New Game+. Maybe you were waiting on revival and all your friends died, or maybe you just feel your character's story is over. Either way, this means you have an option to recreate without being so advantageous as to take advantage of the Afterlife boons.
Needless to say, your new character is not a revival or resurrection of the former. All normal NG+ and Transfer rules apply.
