|| Nero’s PL: 17 ||
The thing about Nero was that he had multiple small odd jobs that he did on the regular. From delivery man (of both the mail and also food variety), a barista at Punchin’ Pancakes, shelf stocker at Z-Mart, et-cetera. Today, he was a local coach and conduct monitor at a local combined sports area. Thankfully it was a mostly uneventful shift— not very many people came along today apparently, so Nero was free to walk around the complex for the most part, helping any curious patron here and there. He took a deep satisfying breath happy with his work so far.
Unfortunately, he would soon hear what he thought was the squabbling of some youngsters over at the nearby junior basketball court. ’Well thats just great…’ Nero sighed and made his way to the court just to see what all the hubbub was about. His mood immediately soured upon seeing what he saw.
There was a short red Bas trying their best to jump up and retrieve a basketball from two taller kids who were sort of playing keep-away with it— they were a Kabochan boy with green hair and a blue Brenchian girl respectively. “Jeez Kefri! You can get the ball off me with your mind stuff, right? C’mon!” The Kabochan boy said trying to coax the little Bas lad into using his powers. “I’m trying, Frashe I’m trying! Hmrrrrmmm..!” Of course, the little lad tried really really hard, to no avail. He huffed and pouted after nothing worked. “Can’t we just play basketball instead of doing training again?” Kefri groaned, to which the Brenchian girl scoffed and flipped her hair, snatching the ball from Frashe.
“Listen, we’re gonna be going to a different school than you soon, we won’t be able to protect you all the time. W-we want you to rely on yourself a little, alright. Gosh.” She rolled her eyes absolutely failing to look like she didn’t care. “Cordyl is right, bud. Plus, that one time you caught that bookshelf during that earthquake and stopped it from hurting anyone— you were like a hero!” Frashe added with a little gleam in his eye. “Y-yeah, plus, we’re uh. Going easy on you anyways, and stuff.” Cordyl added, looking away. “I mean.. I know, but I wanna just.. Have fun with you guys as much as we can.” Kefri twiddled his thumbs and Cordyl idly tossed the basketball up and down a few times before it suddenly didn’t come back!
“Okay kids, thats enough.” Nero cut in, having been the one that caught the ball as it was thrown up. He heard all he needed to hear. The trio of kids recognized him as that cool dude that worked here sometimes and given his stern expression they all nervously stood together, anticipating that they were in trouble. “Its good that you two want to make sure your friend will be okay without you, but listen to what he has to say too. Okay?” Nero said, the three kids nodded slowly to show understanding. He smiled and suddenly tossed the basketball over to Kefri— who to everyone’s surprise besides Nero’s— caught it mid air with his telekinesis! “See? He’ll be fine. Now you three be nice to each other and have some fun, m’kay?” Nero added with a finger wiggle and a smile before he headed off once more, leaving the now rather elated trio to just play basketball.
