|| Nero’s PL: 17 ||
Nero was in fact somewhat surprised, most kids don’t have particularly good table manners. Granted, there was no table currently involved and the kid was likely more focused on the fact that they are hungry. Still, Nero appreciated that the little Avali chose to not speak with a mouth full of food. It was completely different from what he was used to with his cousins since they were mostly Saiyan and all. “Don’t eat too fast okay? Just enjoy it.” Nero added.
Waiting patiently payed off, Nero allowed the Avali child to move freely, and only kept watch on him just to be sure the kid wouldn’t injure himself in any way. Since the little one was struggling, Nero offered assistance so that getting the plate of pancakes out of the cooling box was easier.
Watching and giving his undivided attention Nero took a moment to think about where he had seen that sort of ‘writing’— quickly deciphering that it was the Avali alphabet. It took just a little longer to properly remember which series of scratches correspond to which letter since Nero wasn’t proficient in reading many languages and only capable of speaking two at best, if that.
This was simple though, the little Avali wrote ‘yes’ into the pancake and returned a thumbs up gesture. Man, he really was learning quick! Nero nodded slowly, and took a deep breath which acted as a signal that he was about to ask his question. “Did bad people take you from your real family? Did the bad people leave you here..?” It was almost too much for Nero to even ask, and his voice began to crack..

Pankaa's PL: 500
Pankaa would smile with a mouthful of food but continued to not speak since his mouth was still busy eating away. He nodded when Nero said not to eat too fast and wiggled his little clawed feet happily to show he was enjoying it, his tail swishing back and forth behind him. He hoped Nero wasn't hungry too! Maybe he should share his pancakes? When Nero gave him some help at getting the pancakes out of the box, the young Avali gave off a thankful chirping sound which faded out with a bird-like coo. Nero's bigger hands and arms were so much more useful then his baby Avali one's! Maybe one day he'll be as big and as tall as the Saiyan! Pankaa would sit down, flopping onto the bench top as he listened to Nero ask his question, still keeping the plate of pancakes close to him. When the Saiyan finally asked after taking in a breath, the Avali noticed his voice began to crack as though asking the questions was hard for him too, well, they weren't exactly happy questions and no one liked to ask sad questions, but Nero needed to, to understand. Pankaa thought for a moment, hoping he was understanding Nero right since he didn't want to get the questions answers wrong especially since they were serious and important. When he figured he had it fully understood, the Avali got to his feet, nodded slowly, twice for both questions and then leaned on one of the pancakes, bringing up one of his claws. At first it wasn't really obvious as to what he was doing, he wasn't writing again though that much was for sure, but what was he doing then? It became more clearer as he finished one pancake and pulled a second out to do a similar thing... He was drawing on them. On the first pancake he had done a lot of circles with four ovals coming from them. Avali heads. Most of them were big except for one, he was still a child and these were being drawn on pancakes with his claws but he was trying his best to make it obvious as to what was going on it each drawing. On the second pancake he drew the Avali's again but this time there were more of them on the other side of the pancake and they had something in their hands, it was two simple lines but it was enough to show that they were holding guns of some kind. From the 'guns' there were small lines heading towards the Avali he was drawing to be his family and Tribe. Laying the two pancakes out he then went to the third one and started scratching away, continuing until he'd drawn on all of them and he had a lineup story etched into the surface of the breakfast food. Aside from the first two, there was one with a bunch of smaller Avali who had little circles or drops coming from their faces as though they were crying. After drawing this one Pankaa then slowly started to scratch out all of the other Avali children except the middle one. Him. The next one to that had one little one again but the face was covered, probably to show the suit he had been wearing not too long ago, aside from the suit there was also sticks with squares coming from the picture, like needles. The final two drawings Pankaa would sit down at, one was a funny looking ship heading towards a circle, Earth. The other was just him all alone with tears like the group had on the earlier pancake. He stayed by that one and looked at it with his four ears drooped down. Hoping Nero understood the drawings despite them being very basic and had gotten the answers he wanted.

It didn’t take very long for the kid to properly process Nero’s questions— or at least seem to process them. At first Nero was confused as to what the Avali was doing until he put two and two together. They were drawing on the pancakes. It was fortunate that Nero didn’t make the pancakes super thin.
Shapes were hard to discern for a little bit, but soon enough Nero began to see a sequence of unfortunate events scratched into a bunch of these pancakes. It started with family, moved to an invasion of another tribe, the attack, the crying children... Most of them were soon crossed out, their fates easily implied. Nero felt sick, he shuddered, enraged and beginning to cry, his reaction to all of this was so strong he almost stumbled over right then and there.
Nero’s breathing became heavier as the illustrations continued. He couldn’t quite tell what the lines and squares meant but his mind raced through the worst possible outcomes. He knew that Avali were also scientifically advanced, those that he met had augmentations after all. Did these freaks experiment on kidnapped children!?
Nero grit his teeth, a light pressure building around him, as if a gust of wind momentarily rushed around him and him alone. Seeing the little Avali before him so sad and frightened, now knowing he was abused and neglected, Nero was so close to breaking down completely. However, before he did, he quickly yet gently scooped up the Avali and held him close, giving a fiercely protective hug as he dropped to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably.
Even if he was consumed by raw emotion, he tried his absolute best to console the youngster. “... I-I’m h-e-re now. I’ve got you. You’re safe. B-brave little Pankaa.. I'm so sorry..”

It seemed that as he progressed along, Pankaa got worse himself too, sometimes pausing to rub his eyes, other times pausing to breathe. It was proving difficult to get through but he pushed on and continued until he had told his story through childish drawings. For now, it would have to do. It didn't seem to matter how poorly done the drawings were anyway, Nero reacted accordingly and showed he understood through his emotions. The Avali felt bad for making the Saiyan feel upset but he answered the question that Nero had asked in the best way he knew how to, it wasn't a happy story though, he would simply have to try and cheer Nero up after!
Soon enough, Pankaa found himself being gently scooped up into the Saiyan's arms and held close to him in a hug right as Nero fell to his knees and started to cry. This surprised the Avali and his feathers floofed up at first in response before steadily settling back down as he rest his head against Nero and closed his eyes. He had missed his families hugs and Nero's made him feel safe, which wasn't something he was so used to anymore after what the other Tribe had put him through. Beginning to shake in Nero's arms, Pankaa started to blubber and breathe unsteadily as he started to cry again too, moving his small clawed hands to grip onto Nero's outfit as he did, letting off a few lonely chirps before burying his face against Nero to hide.
As the Saiyan began to speak again, Pankaa's tail moved to curl around Nero in an attempt to comfort him too. When he said that the Avali was safe and that he had him, Pankaa pulled his face back out to look up at the Saiyan. He looked scared and very visibly upset with his teary eyes and wet cheeks messing up his fluff and feathers, a light red ring was also starting to puff up around his eyes. He was tired, he was sad and very homesick but at least he had someone who cared about him, and even if Nero's hug was warm, the Avali didn't protest. He wanted to go home still too but deep down, he knew that there was probably nothing back there waiting for him anymore, he hoped at least that his family were not going through any pain like he had.
Pankaa had also noticed that the Saiyan had called him something, not the bunch of numbers that were in his suit or what they spelt when turned to letters, but a name forged from one of the ways he had tried to say 'pancake'. He smiled lightly and rubbed his head against Nero's shoulder in thanks, that was a much better name to stick with then the numbers. He knew how to say it right too!
Pankaa soon found his eyes wanting to close again but for a different reason this time, he would still try to comfort Nero, even stroking one of his tiny hands against the Saiyan's arm in hopes to soothe him, but he was such a little fellow and it had been such a long day and now that he had someone here that said they were here for him, he felt safe enough to start to feel tired. Giving off a small sad hiccup from all the crying he did, he rubbed his eyes and gave off a small squeak of a yawn before resting his head against Nero again. He had his mature moments, sure, but he was still just a young child, a toddler even since he hadn't been given time to grow past that properly yet. His sleepy hours were still going to be much like a normal child's and on top of that he had, had one very exhausting day.

Nero held Pankaa close, with a gentle protective hug, and while he was indeed warmer than a freezer, fridge or anything similar— the two were lucky that they were in a cold storage room. Until Pankaa was properly outfitted with a better more comfortable device or suit, or even guided through proper temperature evolution therapy... This would have to do. Nero tried his best to smile when the Avali looked up at him, it came out wonky since he was still blubbering and sobbing himself, but the right emotion was clearly there.
A minute or so later, Pankaa ended up nodding off after a show of gratitude. Nero realized a few seconds after the fact having noticed the kid was doing some little chirpy snores. Nero wiped his remaining tears away and cleared his throat quietly. ’No surprise that you’re tired, lil man. Guess I gotta get you someplace safe that… Iiiisn’t one of my workplaces.’ Nero thought to himself as he carefully placed Pankaa back into the cooling box, pressing a few buttons to get the lid of it shut. Nero had configured it in such a way that Pankaa could breathe properly, and that the low temperatures would be contained inside the box. He also turned the temperature inside it down just a tad for good measure.
Nero spent a few minutes cleaning up whatever was left to clean so that the place could be fixed up for tomorrow’s first shift, and changed out of his uniform into casual clothes. The Saiyan had intended to take a long distance bus to get home, but considering Pankaa’s state that wasn’t a good idea. So, Nero called one of his neighbors and asked them to come pick him up— explaining only a little bit of the situation. There was no need to go into detail right now.
With that done, Nero and Pankaa were safely transported to Central City— to the apartment complex Nero lived in. Carefully taking the cooling box up to his place with the help of his neighbor, Nero set the frosty container up in his room so that if Pankaa needed anything, Nero would be right there for him.
Soon enough, even Nero had to go to sleep, and for now all was well...

Safely tucked away and fast asleep within the cooling box thanks to Nero, the avali didn't seem to wake up at all as the Saiyan finished his work around the building, cleaning up what mess was still left before changing out of his uniform. Soon enough it was time to go to his apartment which he'd have some help in doing thanks to one of his neighbours. Pankaa would stir lightly within the box as he slept but thankfully didn't wake and remained asleep for the whole trip home.
Reaching there and being placed carefully inside Nero's room it wouldn't be until about an hour or two afterwards that the avali would stir again but this time he would wake up- in quite the rush too. Panicked, he started to make high-pitched squeaks from within the box sounding much like a baby bird calling to its parents for help, he'd quickly come to re-realize though that there was no way his parents would be able to come to his aid and just as sudden as they started his squeaks would come to a stop. He knew that making loud noises drew attention and would peek to take a look and see if anything or anyone had heard him. He was restless again at the snap of a finger, one bad dream was all it took to remind him that he was in an unknown place with someone he hardly knew and wasn't entirely sure he could trust just yet.
Everything was scary and new and uncertain but there was one thing he was certain of and that was that he needed to get out of this box! Scrambling at the lid for a moment before flipping onto his back and kicking it off roughly, the avali would fling himself out of the cooling box the second the lid had come off, landing with a soft thud against Nero's bedroom floor while almost taking the box down with him in the process. He took one quick look around himself before going full panic, launching himself at the bed in a jump that he had expected would break into flight resulting in him smacking into its side instead, he hardly took a moment to be hurt by this though as he got back to his feet and tried jumping up again, this time digging his claws into the blanket to get enough grip on it to be able to climb up. Once he clambered up the bed he noticed that the Saiyan was laying atop it but only took a second to look a little shocked at this before then promptly launching himself off the edge of the bed and at the window in the room. Again he found his wings being useless at flight and what was supposed to land him on the window ledge ended up being a smack to the wall beneath it instead.
Letting off a rather distressed squawk the avali would rush over to the window wall and attempted to jump up a couple times, even clawing at the wall and curtains during his attempts before seemingly giving up on the window and instead racing over to the door. He very clearly couldn't even begin to reach the door handle so he instead stuck an arm under the door itself and scratched at the floor on the other side of it. It became pretty clear that he wasn't getting out of the room or at least not right now and after a bit more of racing around the room, upturning items and trying to scratch and search for a way out his tone would slowly start to shift instead to looking for somewhere to hide.
Eventually the Avali would settle on clambering under the bed as being the best option which was fairly easy for him to do given his size. It was clear under the bed though which simply wouldn't do so he'd gently yank the funny cloth he'd climbed up earlier from the top of the bed off onto the floor and carefully tugged it underneath the bed instead with him. It was probably some ungodly hour of the early morning and yet Pankaa found himself unable to fall back asleep, hoping he hadn't disturbed the Saiyan man too much during his racket though he was almost certain that it was impossible that he hadn't woken him up. From underneath the bed the avali would push and pull the blankets to make them into the shape he wanted which ended up being a sort of nest which he'd then slump down in the middle of. Taking a moment or two the kid would eventually get his breathing pace back down to normal and began to actually think straight again, noticing that the room was noticeably at a temperature he could deal with which was probably done intentionally for his sake.
Slowly all his senses came back to him and he'd remember that he still had that stuff from earlier stuck in his fur and feathers, usually this would cause him great discomfort but right now he was just too numb to feel it at all. He'd been dumped, left to die on this planet he didn't even know the name of yet, a planet that threatened to cook him alive if he wasn't careful of the temperature. Since he was in a safe spot now he could finally let all this sink in fully in his mind and it was all too much for the kid. Putting his little hands over his face and tucking his face away in the blankets he'd start to cry again though this time it was a much softer, much more somber sounding kind of cry. The world was so big and he felt so alone and unwanted, even those nasty avali's didn't want him around anymore and the saiyan man probably wasn't going to want him around either after what he just did to his room. Laying his head down he'd stare down at nothing in particular as he tried to let himself get lost in the comfort of his thoughts of home. Eventually his soft sobs and cries wouldn't be the only noise he made from beneath the bed as the avali started to make hums at first which were quickly followed by lonely musical chirps and song sounds. Sounding like a lullaby in another language it would become apparent that the avali was singing himself a lullaby...
