Things had been relatively peaceful for Nashua for the past few weeks. She'd saved Vegeta thanks to her efforts on Earth, the World Trade Fleet seemed content to cower in the shadows at present, and she was a more esteemed rank in the military than she'd ever even dreamed of becoming just a year prior. But there was still some stuff left unsettled. For one thing, while the Fleet was hiding in the shadows, they were still around, their evil hadn't gone away, and no one would be able to tell when they might strike again. She just had to hope they were ready. And the other thing was that their own part in the war wasn't over either, if the recent strike against Arcose had anything to say about it. The Saiyan let out a sigh and leaned back in her chair, her eyes glanced lazily out the window as she couldn't stop worrying.
She might have been on vacation, but that didn't mean her worries were. Although, it might have been a mistake to sigh so loudly. "What's up, buttercup?" she heard her dad ask her from across the room, and she glanced over to catch him standing there with his arms folded. "Uhh, nothin'," she quickly replied, though with some slight hesitation. "I thought you and mom were making dinner?" Nashua's father rolled his eyes. "I mean, it's more her doing all the work and then occasionally requesting I wash a vegetable or something," he said with a chuckle. "Speaking of which, we're out of carrots, can you jog over to the store and grab some?" Nashua shrugged. "Nothing better to do," she replied before standing herself up and quickly heading out the door. She needed some fresh air, anyway.
Nashua quietly shut the door behind her after a quick goodbye, and then let out yet another sigh. It was nice and all, being back home, but now that she'd gotten a taste of what more she could be doing out in the galaxy, it felt like an odd waste of her time to be sitting around at home chatting with her parents. Not that she wasn't glad to see them, obviously, but it was weird. Well, whatever, she could get carrots. That was simple enough to do. After a quick stretch of some sleepy limbs, Nashua started making her way down the street, over towards the nearest grocery store she could remember being around.

CARROTS AND PEACE| Ramen's PL: 143,000 |
A few weeks here and there weren't enough to really learn the layout of the Cacumber Capital. Most of the time, it wasn't important: as long as she knew the important landmarks, she could find her way to whatever meetings she was called to. But she was looking for something a little less obvious today. Nashua had shown her around her home when it was still largely a ruin, but she no longer remembered the exact street it was on. To make matters worse, this section of the city looked entirely different following its miraculous reconstruction. After searching for nearly twenty minutes, she found herself outside a grocery store, of all things.
She hadn't ever really considered the possibility of Saiyan grocers in the past, but she supposed that it had something to do with the influence of Earth culture. Everyone needed to find a place to buy food anyways: it's not like every Saiyan alive was going to be a proficient hunter, enough to go kill... Saibabeasts or whatever the meat they ate outside of the palace was. She had half a mind to go into the store just to see the kinds of goods they would have on sale, but ultimately decided against it. After all, she had a Saiyan to find.
... But for the first time in what seemed like weeks, luck was on her side. Before she had a chance to wander back into the maze of streets, the very purple-armoured Saiyan she was looking came wandering up the street. Ramen blinked in surprise, taking a moment to actually make sure it was her, and she wasn't just seeing things. When she recovered, she offered a quick wave to her friend.
"--Hey, Nashua!" she called, running over a few steps to come before her. Their last meeting hadn't ended well, but she shoved that to the back of her mind for now. "How's everything going? I was looking for you!"

It didn't take a very long time for Nashua to reach her destination, but once she walked through the parking lot that was filled with all sorts of different vehicles and Saiyans bustling about, although one person in particular caught her eye. At first, Nashua wasn't sure if the person a few dozen meters ahead of her just happened to look like Ramen - after all, her hair was different than she remembered it being - but when the redhead started waving at her and calling her name and running over, that pretty much sealed the deal as to the identity of this person. "Oh, hey," Nashua called back, forcing a smile. As she waited for the human to run back over, all sorts of things buzzed through her mind. Would it be smart to just immediately bring up the awkwardness of the last time they'd met face to face?
Not to mention the message that Ramen had left her, which she'd never properly replied to. It wasn't that she didn't want to say anything back to her, but more she couldn't think of anything to say. So, when Ramen finally came to a halt in front of her, Nashua blurted out the first thing that came to mind. "I like what you did with your hair!" she exclaimed, giving her a thumbs up. "I've had this same style for too long, I should try and change it up, too! Although I get worried that maybe people won't recognize me if I do, and-" Okay, best not to ramble about hairstyles. "And, uh, I'm going okay. I've been taking a break from all the fighting and war stuff to spend some time with my family. Oh, I should mention, I revived all the dead people."
There was probably a time to go further into the details of how getting the wish together had worked out, but Nashua didn't particularly feel like recounting all that at the moment. Rather, she was more interested in mending her and Ramen's relationship: the tension between the two had been aching on her heart as of late. "And, uh, I got your message, too. Sorry for not replying, I figured I'd just jumble up my words, as usual. I'm not the test balker- best talker." Nashua rolled her eyes at herself, but continued on anyway. "And I ramble when I'm nervous. Uh. How have you been, yourself? I got worried about you." She paused then, folding her hands behind her back as she awaited a response from the human.

Ramen came to a stop before Nashua and managed to offer a weak smile. She couldn't deny that it was a little awkward given how they had left off, but at this point there would be no avoiding that -- she would just have to push forward and hopefully settle whatever their issues had been here and now. It made no sense to be angry at your friends, after all. "I noticed everything kind of spontaneously regenerated -- I figured it had to do with your Dragon Ball hunt, but it's good to get confirmation. I'm glad you managed to use them for a good cause, given how, um..." she cleared her throat. "... Potentially dangerous they could be."
"Things are--" she searched for the words for a good, long moment. "A bit of a mess, honestly. My last mission was basically a complete disaster for all of the wrong reasons. I'm going to upload the recording off my scouter for review, so everyone knows, uh -- what's coming? If that makes sense."
She frowned again, fidgeting with the scouter over her eye. As much as the Arcose expedition was in the past, she couldn't help but wonder at how it would come to haunt her in the future. If she had learned one thing on her journey, it was that anyone prosecuting a war, regardless of the history or the circumstances, was going to have to fight through a crowd of self-styled heroes. "--Long story short," she continued on. "I ran into an issue with Mollusc and one of the Pride Troopers. It almost ended peacefully, but then -- you know, 'erasing monkeys' and all those usual kinds of lines..."
She cleared her throat. "But the politics can wait! I uh, mostly want to apologize for how things went, for the parts I can apologize for -- I don't really want to keep going on with all this dumb tension between us. You're my friend."

Ramen seemed a little bit awkward about meeting again so suddenly, Nashua had to admit, but at least the redheaded human was able to manage a small, albeit a smaller one. The Saiyan nodded her head in response to Ramen's expression of how dangerous the Balls could be if they were to fall into the wrong hands. They'd seen that all too well, and had several rather close calls when it came to the search for the seven orbs on Namek, so it was a good thing they'd managed to come out on top in both cases. Not that Nashua really knew of anyone trying to use the Balls for evil on Earth as she looked around, aside from that Mumbo guy, but she hadn't seen hide nor tail of him. Besides, wasn't he sort of their ally or something? That whole chain of relationships was kind of confusing to her after Namek.
"Oh, yeah, I heard bits and pieces about that," she replied when Ramen brought her last mission up. From the sound of it, things had gotten kind of dicey in unexpected ways, but the specifics to Nashua were quite vague. She didn't like hearing another mention of the Pride Troopers, and a scowl crossed her face, as her eyes rolled in annoyance. "Those guys are just the worst," she mumbled, with still little idea about what the group was actually supposed to be trying to do in her mind. Were they some kind of terrorist group, out to cause the Kingdom whatever strife they could? It sure seemed like it, with how they'd carelessly killed one of the Kingdom's most powerful and revered members. "I wanna give those guys a piece of my mind someday myself."
That could wait, though. Ramen was more important, after all. "That's alright, really," Nashua replied, her head lowering slightly. "I, uh, know I'm not the brightest, or anything. I kind of got knocked out pretty hard there so my memory's slightly fuzzy, but I'm sure if you were angry with me it was justified." Before Ramen could raise any sort of protest, Nashua reached forwards and yanked the redheaded human into a hug, her arms tightly wrapping around her back. "But, I'm glad you're okay, and I want you to know I think of you as my- one of my best friends! Just give me a call before you go off attacking a planet next time, alright?" Truthfully, Nashua thought of Ramen as her true best friend, but the human might have thought that was a little weird. So she held back on that bit.

Despite the awkward start to the conversation, it didn't take long for Ramen to return the hug in full. She gripped the Saiyan tightly, keeping her pinned there for a good, long moment before finally releasing her and going to take a step back. This time, she managed a more genuine smile -- she couldn't help but feel some great relief that whatever tension had been there was... at least easy enough for them to brush aside. "It's a deal," she promised with a little nod. "It was an idea that I thought made more sense than it ended up making. There was blood that I hadn't anticipated, and I kind of learned that between Mollusc's speech and everything else that... people are just really stupid, I don't know."
A frown reached her lips at that thought. She couldn't help but feel a pang of regret over everything that had gone down on Arcose, even though she knew she wasn't truly in the wrong. But it had been a wake-up call: the world was determined to look at the Saiyans, and by extension her, as the aggressors. "... I guess we're not supposed to take any military actions that aren't strictly defensive, but if we do that, we're just going to sit around and get ourselves killed. But -- we can talk about all that kind of grand strategy or whatever later."
She glanced off to the side, thoughtfully. She had always done a rather poor job of expressing her emotions, even when she tried. But though she stood there for what must have been an awkward length, debating her next words, when she looked back to Nashua it was with renewed conviction. "You're not one of my best friends," she stated, matter-of-factly. "You're my best friend. And... well, more than that. I know Kayen named me Commander, but... you know, I followed you for a reason before. You're still my Marshal, no matter what."

"Whaat? You're telling me people are stupid? I never would have guessed!" Nashua teased Ramen about her remarks towards Mollusc and the general reception of people's attitudes towards her mission. Nashua had long since learned that, while most people as individuals tended to be at least pretty decently smart, when they all got their heads together in some emotional responses to things, they tended to not be quite so clever. As for what they were supposed to be doing as a military, Nashua simply shrugged. "I'd just wait to see what Kayen decides for now, really," she replied, "Then if it's something bad, we can just blame her!" Nashua smiled blankly for a few moments, then quickly felt the need to add, "Er, I'm joking, by the way." She felt like she'd acquired more of a taste for sarcastic humor over the last year or so, which had the downside of her also not really being sure when it was obvious or not.
After a brief silence wherein Nashua began to quietly and somewhat nervously twiddle her thumbs behind her back, Ramen added on more to her last statement, which surprised Nashua, to say the least, and her normally only vaguely rosy cheeks turned a shade of bright crimson. "O-Oh?" she stuttered back, her hand coming up to rub the back of her neck as her eyes averted Ramen's bright red. "No one's ever told me that before," she quietly admitted, then cleared her throat before replying, "Yes, well, good. Youre um, my best friend, too, also. Not just one of them, but uh, the top one. ...You know what I mean." Nashua gave Ramen a bit of an awkward smile, the blush on her cheeks still hardly faded from the mix of warm feelings and embarrassment that were coursing throughout her body.
Nashua paused again for a bit, then quickly remembered why she was even standing there. "Oh, right, I'm supposed to be getting groceries! My parents are alive again, so they're making dinner for us. They're just out of... Caaarrots? ...Yeah, carrots." Nashua gestured towards the large grocery store that was just ahead of the two women, and added, "Why don't you come join us for dinner? We can grab some extra so there'll be enough for you, too. I think we're having soup, you guys have that on Earth too, right? It's really good." Nashua grabbed Ramen by the hand and began to gently lead her towards the marketplace regardless of the redhead's answer, her eagerness getting the better of her.

Before Ramen could manage much of a response to Nashua's invitation, she found herself being pulled towards the grocery store by the hand. She had to suppress a bit of a laugh at Nashua's reaction to her comments: they had been rather heartfelt, she supposed, but she hadn't expected to make her friend blush like that. All the same, she let herself be led towards the market, taking a moment to wonder at it. It was just a grocery store, but the idea that Saiyans had large grocers like this still somehow surprised her.
"I think everyone has soup," Ramen finally replied as they made it into the market. She paused in the entryway, taking a moment to scan across the various aisle labels -- for the most part, it seemed like a regular old Earth marketplace, but she suspected some of the actual goods on sale would be different. Saiyans probably ate weird space meat, after all. "But, uh -- I can join you! I'm not much of a cook, but as long as you guys aren't cooking with anything that's, uh... unsavoury to a human palette, y'know. Like Saibaman eyeballs or something."
"But, uh. Yeah, people are stupid... I guess that goes without saying. But it kind of feels like they're getting more stupid by the day, not less. But uh, I guess there is something kind of funny about people looking at you like some kind of archvillain when you helped save everyone's ass, right?" she forced a bit of a laugh. She was still a little bitter about the subject, but making light of it was the best way to shift gears.
"--Hey, we should go shopping for real. Do you guys have clothing stores? You wear your armour a bunch, and it looks good on you and all that, but maybe we could find you something casual!"

"Oh, you guys do have soup?" Nashua replied in slight surprise. Chances were that she'd seen soup on Earth before when shopping for food, but there were just so many different kinds of foods in all their grocery stores, it was seriously hard to tell what was what sometimes. She was pretty sure the clerks and staff at the store she frequented in North City were getting pretty sick of her by the time the Kingdom finally moved its base of operations over to Namek. "Well, we have something really delicious called chicken soup over here, I bet you guys don't have that kind. It's got some meat and a bunch of vegetables, and it tastes great! You definitely have to try some." Nashua rambled on as she led amen through the shelves of the grocery store, grabbing up a bag of carrots and a few other miscellaneous objects along the way.
"Oh, and yeah, I make sure to talk a lot about all the good parts of you," Nashua added as they got in line to pay. "So my parents already know how great you are! Don't let those idiot 'Pride Trooper' guys get you down, they're basically a bunch of villains calling themselves heroes." The Saiyan rolled her eyes at the thought of the PT, how much they paraded around righteousness while constantly causing huge amounts of damage to both lives and property, all the while being hailed by Earth as heroes. But, they knew the truth over on Vegeta! As for her clothes, though... "You know, my mom keeps saying the same thing, to me. 'Let your hair down and get yourself a new outfit or no man will ever fall for you!'. ...I don't really get it, but I guess if both you and my mom are saying I should, I'll look into it."
Casual clothes just made Nashua feel too... Exposed after wearing little else but her armor for practically her whole life. She even slept with the purple and blue thing on! But, she supposed it wouldn't hurt to try out some new styles. "I always liked your own styles," she said to Ramen as the cashier finished ringing her items up. "Like, that biker outfit you had back when we first met on Earth, that looked cool! And you sure do change your hairstyle a lot. ...But it always looks cool, too!" Nashua flashed the human a thumbs up as she quickly paid for the items and stuffed them all into a paper bag, which she started to carry out of the store. "What's next for you, anyway? Being second in command of the whole Kingdom must mean a lot more responsibility!"

"U-uh, to be honest..." Ramen rubbed the back of her neck, glancing back towards some miscellaneous object on the shelves to buy herself a little time. Nashua was so upbeat and cheerful at the idea that chicken soup was some kind of exotic dish to her, it was almost a shame to ruin that. "I think chicken soup actually comes from Earth? I mean, we have a lot of chickens that we've been raising for a long time for food. We always eat chicken soup when we're sick, it's sort've... good to help get rid of colds, right? But I'm sure chicken soup on Vegeta tastes different! Maybe your chickens taste different than our chickens, erm, unless you guys buy your chickens from us."
She followed the Saiyan along through the aisles, starting to take a bit more of an interest in what they had for sale there as they went. If Nashua had talked her up to her family, she figured she had probably follow proper protocol and actually bring something to dinner. When they came to the snacks and drinks aisle, she wheeled around the corner to find the liquor. She had never been able to buy this sort of thing in grocery stores in South City, so it was almost kind of fun to be able to get it here. She scanned the various bottles of wine on display, pretending as if she knew which were which, before just picking one at total random. She hurried to catch up to Nashua, giving it a little wag to draw her attention to it.
"There we go!" she said, cheerily. "A little something for you guys since I'm gon'na be an unexpected guest. It's supposed to be proper manners back on Earth."
When Nashua came back to the subject of her outfit, she couldn't help but wrinkle her nose a little at the sentiment. "I don't think you need to do it just to impress men," she replied with a shake of her head. "I think you're plenty hot already! But it can feel good to sort of change the way you look every now and again, keeps things fresh, right? That's why I change my hair so much -- if I have to look at myself looking the same every day, eventually I get kind've bored. Doing my hair takes time, so I want to make sure I do it right!"
She parted with Nashua just long enough to pay for her bottle of wine before joining up with her outside of the store. The wine had thankfully been placed in a nice paper bag to make it a little more presentable. Nashua seemed to want to know about her job as second in command, but she didn't really have much to say on that front. "I'm not really sure," she shrugged. "I'm just sort of training people when I can and making sure all of our officers sort of have things sorted. There are a lot of... problems with our forces right now, but I think most of them are unfixable. Sort of just... saiyans being saiyans."

"O-Oh, is that so?" Nashua replied at the newfound information that chicken soup was commonplace on Earth. She did her best to mask her disappointment, though it probably would have been fairly obvious to Ramen. "Well, that's okay, you don't have my mom on Earth, right? And she's a great cook, so it'll still feel like a new dish!" They definitely didn't have her mom on Earth, lest there was some weird cloning conspiracy Nashua had never heard of. Though, that would just be weird. And at Ramen's additional comments about Nashua's appearance, the Saiyan was, well, a bit puzzled. "Plenty... hot?" she asked. Oh, right, that was another word for attractive. "Well, thanks! And yeah, you're right, maybe I could go for something new, here. My hair is only even this long because everyone told me Saiyans' hair doesn't grow, but but I guess since I'm a quarter alien that didn't apply to me..."
In hindsight, she probably could've paid a trip to a barber or something when her hair started reaching her tail. Shorter hair would probably also mean she wouldn't have to buy a new shampoo bottle every three showers or so, as well! Maybe it did have its benefits. "Your hair always looks cool, so if you want to help me style mine sometime, that would be fun!" Nashua added as she led the two of them out of the grocery store parking lot. "And yeah, I know what you mean. About uh, Saiyans being Saiyans, and all that. I always hated history class, cause they'd talk about all the bad things our ancestors did, and I'd keep thinking 'I would never do that!'. I think we're making good strides towards being a more peaceful race, though, don't you think?"
She at least hoped they were, but she could still name a dozen more bloodlust type Saiyans off the top of her head - their current Queen being one of them. But that wasn't really worth worrying about. Not for the moment, at least, as Nashua led Ramen up to her much more properly furnished front door than it had been when the Earthling last saw it. "My house sure looks nice now, right?" she stated with pride towards Ramen, "When I got back to Vegeta, it was already like this! That Dragon's wish must've fixed it up for us." She then knocked on the door and led the Earthling inside to, again, a much nicer view than there had been last time. When they entered, they were quickly greeted by a pair of Saiyans.
"Ooh, is this that Earthling you were telling us about?" a surprisingly tall man with spiky black hair and a large ponytail asked. "She's so cuute! And look at how bright red that hair is!" chimed in another Saiyan, this one a woman about Nashua's height with shoulder length, spiky brown hair. "U-Uh," Nashua mumbled, a bit flustered by her parents suddenly crowding them. "I brought the, uh, carrots." "Oh, carrots, schmarrots," Nashua's mother interrupted, grabbing Ramen by the arm and semi forcefully guiding her inside. "It's great to finally meet you, Nashua's talked up a storm about you! Ramen, right? Nobody else with red hair like that would show up with Nashua out of the blue!" "R-Ramen, this is my mom, Agula. And, that's my dad, Broccini," Nashua said as she walked inside as well, her embarrassment clear as day on her face.

"... I did wonder why you let your hair grow that long," she admitted when Nashua explained its earlier, long length. "I mean, it looked fine and all that, but it had to get in your way while you were fighting a little bit, right? It's one thing to have hair get in your eyes in the middle of a scrap, but it'd be really awkward to have to step backwards and find yourself tripping on your own hair. Although..." she considered mentioning the possibility of that happening with a Saiyan's tail, but thought better of it. Most Saiyans seemed to have pretty good control of those things anyways. "--Uh, if you want help styling it, I can definitely try!"
She followed Nashua out of the parking lot, resting her hands at her hips with her thumbs in her pockets. If there was one thing she was thankful of on Vegeta, it was that enough Saiyans were just sort of casually unattentive towards technology that she didn't have to worry about people picking her out as someone of note just because they saw her on a television screen or something. That had happened on Earth once, and it was just about the strangest thing she had ever had to go through. Well, outside of space travel and intergalactic wars.
When they finally came to her house, she smiled a little. It was nice to see that things were returning to normal for Nashua and her family, or at least as close to normal as they could ever be. The smile faltered a little when Nashua went to knock on the door, a nagging thought giving her pause. But she soon brushed it to the side and started up the steps after her. The two Saiyans that greeted them caught her a little by surprise -- well, mostly her father. While her mother had brown hair and was around the same height, her father practically towered above them. Before she had time to reply to their greetings, she found herself being guided inside by the arm.
"--Uh, yeah, it's Ramen!" she hastily replied. "I guess red hair isn't super common around here, huh... It's good to meet you two!"
Once inside, she kind of glanced around the house. The last time she was here, it was almost entirely collapsed in on itself and the two friendly Saiyans before her had been dead. It was a little surreal, but she managed a smile all the same. "Right, I don't know if this is the custom on Vegeta, but--" she procured the bottle of wine from the brown bag and offered it out to Agula. "We usually bring things when we're going to impose on people, y'know?"

"I think the most annoying part is washing it," Nashua replied, "And our drain got clogged a lot from all the clumps that got stuck in it. ...Maybe I should cut it." Ramen's hair always looked cool, so getting some help from her more fashionably inclined friend sounded like a good idea to Nashua. As for her parents, well... "Well, this looks delicious," Nashua's mother stated as she accepted the bottle of liquor from the Earthling, giving it a once over before popping the cap off with her thumb with ease and lifting the bottle over her mouth, her lips wrapping around the opening as she began to chug... And chug... And chug. It was actually kind of impressive how long she drank before she finally lowered the bottle to take a breath. "And it was delicious!" she stated, handing the quarter empty bottle back off to Ramen before motioning for her husband to follow her back into the kitchen.
"You two sit tight, food'll be ready in a minute!" Nashua's father stated as he took the groceries from his daughter and made his own way back into the kitchen. That left the Earthling and the Saiyan by themselves in the front room. "Um... They're always like that, before you ask," Nashua said to Ramen in a slightly apologetic tone. She loved her parents, but their crassness around even guests wasn't something she was especially proud of. "Here, uh," she continued as she walked over into the dining room, a quaint area with lots of pictures hung up on the walls and a big window with a nice view of some hills off in the distance. She pulled up a fourth chair and added it to the three that were already positioned under the table, and gave it a pat. "Come, sit!"
Whether Ramen obeyed or not, Nashua took a seat herself, and removed her scouter from her eye, blinking a few times as her left eye was forced to adjust to not seeing everything in a shade of purple. "So, do you have parents back on Earth?" Nashua asked Ramen, suddenly realizing she didn't actually know very much about the Earthling's home life. Ramen certainly didn't seem to spend too much time on her home planet these days, so Nashua was admittedly curious about her home situation. "Or, a family, or something? Sorry I haven't asked before, I just only noticed I don't know too much about you before we met!"

CARROTS AND PEACE| Ramen's PL: 143,000 |
Ramen stared with wide eyes as Nashua's mother began to chug the bottle of wine... gulp after gulp, until far too much wine for one drink -- perhaps one evening, depending on the person -- had been drained. It wasn't necessarily surprising, given she had had ample experience with Saiyan appetites before. When she had first met Banzo, it had been in a buffet where he had put away enough food to feed an entire group of Stargoons on a month-long expedition. All the same, she held the bottle up to the light to behold its contents, unable to escape some small wonder at that bizarre introduction to Nashua's family.
Eventually, she discarded the bottle on one of the tables. She figured if Nashua or her parents wanted a bottle, they would need to come out to get glasses anyways. At least, if Nashua or her father wanted a drink... unless that was just how things worked in this household. Either way, she took the fourth chair as Nashua directed, following suit and removing her own scouter in turn. "... I don't know why I wear that everywhere," she mumbled under her breath as she flicked the power off. "It's basically just a long-range cellphone at this point."
That line of thought was soon brought to an abrupt halt by Nashua's line of questioning. She blinked, momentarily caught off-guard. The topic might have been a sore one, but she was also a little surprised it was one they hadn't covered before. Somehow, she had always just assumed people knew about that sort of thing, even when they really had no reason to. It probably wasn't even on her file with the Kingdom.
"Well, uh--" she struggled to find her words. "I don't really, no. They died after their car crashed out over the ocean. They were never found or anything, but the car sank all the way to the bottom, so it was pretty clear they drowned. I try not to think about it too much, but I didn't really know them all that well anyways. I don't even remember seeing them in-person, I just know them from photographs."
"It was kind of--" she gestured indistinctly, as if it would help illustrate her point. "In that period where you can't really remember things, see? I ended up being raised by my brother, anyways. And he was in this street gang, so he didn't make it to old age either. He died, uh... really, not that long ago. It would have been around the same time Vegeta got attacked by the Fleet the last time, come to think of it."
That gave her a moment more of pause. There was a little bit of irony in that, however bitter it was. "--Um, anyways. That's basically it. I would say my brother played the role that a father should have, but he was also my brother, so it wasn't really the same."
"Oh!" she sat up a little straighter, pinching at the fabric of her leather jacket. "--This was his."

Ramen seemed unusually caught off guard by what Nashua had assumed would make for a relatively simple question. As to why, Nashua quickly found out while Ramen explained what had become of her parents. "They died in a car crash?" Nashua asked, with some slight puzzlement in her tone of voice. If Ramen ever got into a car crash, the car would probably have ended up taking more damage than the Earthling ever would have. But she supposed regular Earthlings were far more frail - and so Ramen's parents must have lacked the girl's talents and strength with ki. "That sounds pretty hard. I mean, I know what it's like to lose your parents, obviously, but I was already an adult, almost. I can't imagine having to grow up without them. Maybe that's why you're so tough!" Nashua had meant that as a compliment, but she quickly realized that might have come off in the wrong way.
"Not that that's bad! I think your toughness is one of your best traits!" There, she'd saved it. It was somewhat of a strange coincidence that Ramen's brother had died right around the time Vegeta had been attacked, which meant she and Nashua would've been going through slightly similar things around the same times. If only they'd happened to have met sooner, they might have hit it off and become friends months before they'd bumped into each other while Nashua had been training in that forest! ...And before Nashua had accidentally attacked West City. "That jacket?" Nashua asked as she leaned forward and got a closer look at the thing. It definitely looked pretty slick, and the Saiyan was also impressed that, after everything Ramen had been through, it wasn't scratched, burned or torn. It almost looked brand new!
"It sure looks nice! I can't get too attached to my own armor, cause it breaks a lot in fights, so I need to replac-" "Food's done!" Nashua's mother announced as she suddenly stepped into the room and slammed a pot full of soup right onto the middle of the table between the Earthling and the Saiyan. Bowls were quickly placed in front of the pair of women, and were shortly after filled with steamy chicken broth. Nashua's parents both filled up their own bowls and took their own seats at the table. "Thank you, it looks go-" "So, Ramen, I hear the new Queen quite favors you!" Nashua's mother interrupted her daughter quite abruptly. "Unusual for the monarchy to have a non Saiyan as their number two," her father chimed in as well. "I take it the two of you are old war buddies or something? I've heard bits about it from Nashua, but you guys did a lot together on some planet called Namek, yeah?"
