Sam nodded. He hadn’t expected his colleagues to just completely blindly accept the idea of setting up shop in an abandoned, haunted building. Hell, under most circumstances Sam himself wouldn’t recommend it even in the most benign of circumstances. It was just a matter of the Troopers being as spiritually powerful as they were that made Sam completely confident that this incidental haunting would prove little more than amusing or, at worst, occasionally inconvenient.
“I do understand your misgivings, Bella. Hauntings can be unnverving, even to those of us who spend a lot of time interacting with them. I can say that in my investigation I found this place to be well and truly harmless. The spirits within can make their presences known, but I’ve detected no signs of malice or even any real intelligence.”
Sam started to walk towards the building, beckoning for the others to follow him. He stepped through a hole in the chain link fence - something that would certainly need to be repaired should they purchase this place - and made a beeline for the door.
“Come see for yourself. It’ll be a short tour, for its size there’s not a ton of rooms to inspect. And Koban, I’d like to see what happens if you touch that unopenable door in the basement - I think that’ll be the ultimate litmus test for whether or not there’s any potential danger. If even you come away uncursed, then I think we’re in the clear.”
He pushed open the door and it gave a high-pitched metallic shriek. It would likely need to be replaced. Within was a building not dissimilar to the one they had been in last. A wide amount of floor space, in much need of being cleaned. Across the way was a stairwell with a flight of stairs leading up into what would presumably be the living area, and down into the basement.
“Have a look around.”

The firm hand on her shoulder eased the unease she felt to some degree, but even Koban’s encouragement couldn’t calm her completely. Genetically half Demon, Bella had never met her father never mind gotten exposure to that side of her family. Perhaps if that half of her lineage wasn’t a complete mystery then she would be comfortable with the mystical and other worldly or more in touch with the abilities tied to her non human side. Despite the horns on her head and the mixed blood that ran through her veins, Belladonna came across human.
”Thanks, Koban. Let’s just be careful, yah?” She suggested with a small smile. Again, if they wanted to take a look and it was what was best for the PT then she would bare it. Hopefully Koban’s confidence translated to real positive energy.
Sam’s reassurance that the place was safe strengthened her resolve a bit more, but she still wasn’t one hundred percent sold. Stepping inside was the only way to be sure, right?
Through the busted chain link fence, which did seem like trespassing if you were to ask Bella, she followed him in. After the door announced their arrival to whatever entity might live in this place, she sheepishly slipped in behind her demonic companion. On the defensive even if she tried not to show it, she glanced around cautiously.
It definitely would provide them adequate space and possessed the potential to support them should their numbers swell. Stairs led up and down from the ground level floor, the set that descended likely to that door Sam mentioned...the one he wanted Koban to test and the one she wanted to avoid.
”There is plenty of space to do as we please with, that's a positive Yah know, as long as the spirits let us. So...whats upstairs?” She asked as she made her way over to the stairwell, the first part of her statement an attempt at humor to lighten her own mood. Hand on the railing her neck craned as she attempted to look up without actually stepping onto the stairs. Not able to see anything beyond the top of the stairs she remained hesitant to take the lead here. A was sent back Sam’s way for the answer rather then exploring herself.

The only thing that kept Koban from taking any real issue with the fact that they were most likely breaking some sort of Earth law by being on this property considering the efforts made to keep others out (though the hole indicated little effort to maintain those efforts) was that if the place ended up being what they needed then they would be buying it and then there presence would not be tresspassing. Really it was a bit like an open house, just without anyone supervising and also haunted. He was glad to find that between his and Sam’s efforts Bella seemed to calm down a bit and was a bit more receptive to the idea of actually checking out the house. “Suuuuure” Koban said dragging the answer to Sam’s request that he check out the mysterious unopenable door. While Koban was not necessarily eager to potentially get himself cursed he was not about to make a fuss about it what with how concerned Bella had been, if he wanted her to be confident in the safety of this place then he too needed to be confident. “The place really does seem like it will be what we need, and i’m pretty sure it will STILL be less cleaning than the other place” Koban said with a laugh glad already that he could speak without inhaling and choking cloud of dust, the last thing he needed was to meet his end by DUST of all things. “The upstairs is a bunch of empty rooms. They were likely offices or conference rooms or something, but I don’t see why they can’t be made into living spaces. Bella, go check those out, your input would be appreciated. I’m gonna take Koban to test that door.”
He smiled sincerely, but did inject a little mischief into it. It was an old habit - he never could be entirely reassuring to someone frightened, always had to leave them with a little something to worry about. He hoped Koban could back him up and wipe away any further doubts Bella had.
“Captain, this way.”
Sam headed for the stairs and into the basement. The basement itself was like the ground floor above it - open and spacious, but with a lower ceiling. Not so low that anyone would have to duck to come down, though. There was little furnishing, save for a small folding table topped with a series of jars and books, placed next to an unusually intricate and heavy-looking door.
“Nothing I’ve done has put a dent in it. I’m starting to wonder if it’s even powered by magic. Give it a whirl, see if you can crack it open.”

Support from both helped her confidence, although it couldn’t completely eliminate her unease. Competent in their own ways, Sam and Koban stood as role models to the young woman. How could she shiver and shake in front of them and expect to be on their level one day? Keeping that thought in mind and the fact she was indeed a Pride Trooper, she eased her way further into the building.
At Sam’s suggestion she nodded. Convert offices to living quarters, that sounded like something right up her alley. Inspect a strange locked door in the basement of a haunted building, Koban’s name was written all over it. ”Yeah, I’ll go take a look then. See what we have to work with.”
At the stairwell she parted ways and began her slow ascent to the second floor. Thankfully the stairs were concrete and did not creak with each step. The soundtrack to a horror movie would have been all she needed to feel uncomfortable all over again. Nerves steeled though, she continued up and soon enough found herself in a hallway lined with doors.
A couple possessed large windows, once used for passersby’s to see if the respective resident was on the phone before entering, they might pose as a privacy issue when it came to living quarters. Maybe those could be converted to common rooms. Down the hall she went, taking a peak through windows where they were and cracking open each door she passed. Thankfully none of the rooms contained anything beyond the left over office furniture that the previous owners left behind.
Strangely enough though, the last door on the right seemed stuck. Bella attempted a second, more forceful shove to try and open it, but the wood groaned without giving way. Perhaps it was locked?
”Hmmm.”

“Shout if you find anything cool or need us Bella!” Koban said giving her a grin and a thumbs up as he and Sam began making there way to the strange door that Sam seemed DISCONCERTINGLY eager for Koban to check out, it sometimes felt like Sam almost enjoyed seeing the limits of his susceptibility to wierd magical stuff, Koban WOULD be a bit concerned if Sam weren’t both a friend and also the person essentially in charge of ‘magical weirdness’ in the Troopers. “You ARE sure this thing won't curse me though right?” Koban asked once he was certain that they were far enough from Bella that he could safely voice concerns about the house without also potentially worrying her, he wasn’t necessarily TOO concerned, he knew Sam wouldn’t toss him into anything that could do him into any harm without a need for it and also without a means of undoing it. But still being cursed was NOT fun and really he wanted to know beforehand just how likely it was to happen, regardless Koban would step forward to the door taking a moment to scrutinize it, the door didn't give off any real energy that he could feel but then again there WERE things immune to standard energy sensing techniques like androids and some species of alien. Koban scratched his chin as he stared at the door for a few moments, Sam had made it pretty clear that he’d tried brute forcing it before, so maybe as uncommon at it was, perhaps brute force was not the answer. Koban had more talents than just his strength though, Koban liked to keep things generally simple, it's why he kept the ‘rules’ of the Pride Troopers so loose. So faced with a door that needed opening he took the most simple route to getting it opened. Koban reached out with one hand and knocked. PL: 8,000

“I’m about as certain as I can be without throwing you at it, so…”
Sam looked Koban in the eye and smiled.
“So no, not sure at all. Have fun!”
Sam took a long couple of steps back and watched as Koban approached the door and...knocked. He couldn’t help but let out a snorting chuckle - he hadn’t expected such apprehension from the Captain. Also, he’d tried that. He wasn’t surprised when nothing happened.
“Oh, shit...Koban, uhhhhh...don’t be alarmed…”
Sam approached Koban, looking at him as if there was something wrong with his face.
“But, uh………”
He smiled again.
“Nothing happened. Try givin it the ol’ Justice Flash, eh?”

While her friends tempted fate with the strange door below, Bella faced her own locked entryway.
Index finger to her chin, a string of gentle taps followed as she contemplated how to move forward. Sure, busting it open was well within her ability, but for starters that might do more damage than good if it was locked and secondly, what if something had locked it? Again, she didn’t paint herself an outright coward for if she knew a lost child sat on the other side she wouldn’t hesitate a second. However, with the knowledge that something otherworldly did exist in this house and the single locked door on an entire floor, she felt busting through might not be wise.
Yet, what if someone was behind the door? Maybe a homeless man trying to shelter himself from the elements or a runaway that used the place as a temporary home?
A small sigh escaped her lips before she announced herself. ”Alright, I am coming in!” A deep breath filled her lungs as her left hand gripped the door handle. Shoulder to the wood and boots set against the floor, she calmed her nerves and summoned her strength. With a heave, wood creaked and then splintered as she broke the frame where it surrounded the locked bolt. Pieces of wood flew inwards along with the stumbling red head as she staggered into the room.
She couldn’t believe what she saw.

Koban was not entirely sure if he really had expected if his first approach would actually do anything or not. In his mind, it certainly made a certain amount of sense and would be amusingly appropriate for it to be something so simple. But as the moments passed after he knocked it started to become clear that it was not likely that it had worked. Though he supposed that if there WAS something on the other side that perhaps it just had not heard or chose not to respond. Though if that was the case it probably wouldn't be overly fond of them blasting down the door either, as Koban mentally debated his next move Sam spoke up and IMMEDIATELY Koban was concerned, Sam sounded and looked like something terrible had happened and Koban looked around at himself trying to figure it out “what happened, am I cursed, am I cotton candy??” Koban questioned pausing briefly to lick the back of his hand to test his latest theory and immediately realizing that A) he was not cotton candy and that that had been a TERRIBLE response if he WAS considering it would have dissolved part of his hand considering how cotton candy liked to respond. Then Sam revealed it was all a joke and Koban let out a sigh of relief and shook his head “You got me, that was definitely cheating though!” Koban said with a grin, it seemed that Sam’s plan was probably the best course after all “Alright well let's do this then, you might want to stand back” Koban said taking a few steps back himself as he was not particularly eager to be right next to the door he intended to destroy, in theory, the attack should entirely disintegrate it but with how weird Sam made it out to be he was not about to take any chances. Powering up to his full strength Koban gripped his wrist and pointed his hand at the door drawing power down his arm and into his fingers, the power briefly sparked at the tips of his fingers before Koban unleashed it “JUSTICE! FLAAAAAAAAAASH!” Koban roared the attacks name unleashing the strongest version of the attack he was capable of in his base state. PL: 8,000
