NAME: Seek Heaven Through Violence
SPECIES: Demon [Fallen Shinjin]
GENDER: Genderless, she/her pronouns
STARTING PLANET: Namek
APPEARANCE:Shura's appearance is that of a corrupted Shinjin, a perversion of the godly form she was denied when the World Tree birthed her. Her pale blue complexion is contrasted by a trio of blood-red eyes, the third of which is vertical and set above her brows. A shock of white hair crowns her head. The lobes of her pointed ears are distended, weighed down by heavy golden piercings, and curved fangs jut from her mouth. Her form is lithe yet muscular, clocking in at just a shade over 5'6", and is usually clothed in whatever scrabs of garb and armor Shura has chosen to salvage from defeated opponents.
BACKGROUND:In the orchards of the gods a tree bloomed, kindled by the light of a thousand worlds.
Its fruits were ripe and plentiful, golden with the promise of paradise.
For in their flesh slumbered the world-kings to be.
Yet one fruit bloomed black and rotten, and in its core burned a mighty violence.
Then a great shudder ran through the branch that bore that fell fruit.
And the very roots of the hallowed tree shook with fear.
The Keeper of the Groves felt the tree's anguish, and was saddened.
She had warded the orchards all her long days, pruning devils from the stock of kings.
Well she knew the fate allotted to all rotten fruit.
With hands gentled by time and care, she plucked the fruit from the bough.
Its flesh was soft and foul to her touch, yet it burned like a coal in her palm.
The Keeper's sorrow for the fruit deepened, for she pitied the life within its spoilt core.
She would have spared it the sentence of damnation that had been passed down unto it.
Yet the decrees of the gods are absolute, and the path before the Keeper was clear.
Thus she departed the holy orchards, bearing the rotten fruit to the very edge of the void.
At the doors of the Demon Realm, the Keeper of the Groves stood and gazed upon the fruit.
She felt the violence in its heart as a wrathful heat that castigated her hesitant hands.
Yet she held the fruit a long while, and pondered the cruelties of Creation.
Knowing not whether she spoke a command or a wish, she whispered unto the fruit:
"Seek heaven through violence," and cast her burden into the abyss.
And shedding one last tear, the Keeper of the Groves returned to the orchards of the gods.
***Cast from the higher worlds, the fruit fell into darkness.
Its fall was unmarked, for the lords of the Demon Realm paid no heed to such matters.
The fruit lay awhile in the wastelands, amid the wreck and ruin of battles long forgotten.
Yet a fire was kindled in its core, and the fruit burst.
From its pulp arose a single flower, its petals blue as the fury of heaven.
The flower swayed awhile in the waste-winds, charred by the unholy breath of the realm.
But the flower heard a tender voice, calling to it from the mists of forgotten remembrance.
The tender voice said unto the flower: "Seek heaven through violence".
The flower thought: "That must be my name", and thus emboldened it grew.
The flower became a body, and its blossoms were hands and feet and eyes and teeth. And the body looked upon its strong limbs and tested its tongue against its fangs. The body thought: "It is good to have strong limbs for breaking, and sharp fangs for tearing."For the body still could not contain the violence of the fruit from which it had sprung.
So it went forth into the wastes with rage in its belly and a memory of softness in its heart.
And the body knew not whence either of these burdens came.***
Fivescore years and one did Seek Heaven Through Violence wander in the wastes.
For neither the fury of her flesh nor the words of her heart could be quieted.
Thus she went among the demons of the nether realm, and there did battle.
The thunder of her fists laid low many fiends of the earth and air.
Yet her violence was unsated, and she found not the answer to the riddle of her name.
And so she asked the fiends of the storm and darkness: "What is heaven?"
"We know not," answered the fiends. "Ask the Three Demon Sages of the Wastes".
Dissatisfied, Seek Heaven Through Violence rendered demon justice unto them.
And she went forth into the wasteland once more, and in her steps was the breaking of fiend-skulls.
To the thunder-crowned peak of Broken Moon Mountain did the demon ascend.
For that was the repose of the Three Demon Sages, who asked questions of the nether wind.
And standing before each in turn, the demon demanded the answer to the riddle.
The first sage said: "Heaven is a lie. This realm of darkness and discord is all."
The second sage said: "Heaven is a dream. Awaken, lest thine eyes be plucked from thy head."
The third sage said: "Heaven is around you. To conquer, to destroy; that is a demon's bliss."
The demon heard, and was enraged; and she struck the heads of the sages from their shoulders.
But the heads yet spoke, and cursed her thusly: "Never shall you find the heaven you seek.
Shura we name you, the Forever Battler; even in death, you shall have no respite."
But with the Three Sages had dwelt an acolyte whose eyes were clearer than her masters'.
For she had traveled far, and had some understanding of the ways of the universe.
She rejoiced to see them struck down, and would spite their final curse upon their executioner.
Bowing before the vengeful demon, she said: "Truly, you shall not find heaven here.
Yet there are other worlds than this, and wisdom to be found among the stars".
And so heartened the demon departed, bearing her new name in defiance of the Sages' decree.
Thus the fallen fruit whose name was Shura went forth, and the planets trembled at her coming.
