WHAT IS DEATH? |
A fair question with a fairly simple answer: a character dies when, in a Death Enabled thread, they receive damage equivalent to or over 200% of their current power level. Damage does not stack purely additively, though. For example, one could take 150% damage from one attack, and then take 60% damage from another attack the next turn, and still manage to stay alive, though taking 200% all at once guarantees their demise. In general, it's best to play it by ear, and know that, generally, if you've taken a decent amount over 200% overall, you probably won't be getting back up again.
So, you're dead. What happens next? Well, you'll no longer be in the turn order for the DE you were just in, and you'll be unable to create or join any new threads until one of several things happens. Upon your death, you have a few options as to how to continue. These options are as follows:
OPTION 1: THE CHECK-IN STATION |
Most characters, upon their death, will report here. You can click this link here to take you on over there. Here, you will create a new thread for your character in which they will approach the mighty King Yemma and must state the best and worst deeds they have committed in their lifetime. Be honest, Yemma knows when you're lying! After you create this post, before long, you'll receive a reply from King Yemma himself, who will either condemn you to Hell for your misdeeds, or allow you to enter Heaven as a reward for your acts of heroism. Once you have been sent to Heaven or Hell, you will only be able to create or participate in threads taking place on one of those boards, unless you either travel to the other board through some means or are revived and returned back to the living realm.
OPTION 2: GOING GHOST |
This option is rather similar to the previous one, and requires you to go through the standard Check-In Station procedure, first. However, upon reaching your final destination of Heaven or Hell, you may contact a Staff Member and request to have your character's race changed to Ghost. More specific details can be found on their species page here, but in general, Ghosts may travel back to the living realms at the cost of an additional Devil Lamp item for each time they have died, and in addition, their XP:PL conversion rate is lowered from a 1:1 ratio to a 1:0.75 ratio, permanently.
OPTION 3: MECHANIZATION |
The third and final option that allows you to keep your character upon their death is Mechanization. This option is unique in that you will not be going to the Check-In Station when choosing to go this route. Rather, instead of cheating death through magical means, you shall elect to cheat it through artificial means. Firstly, the Android species comes with the trait Rebuild, where, at the cost of 10,000 XP, as well as the deactivation of one of your other traits (Durable Body, Overdrive Module, or Anti-Sensing Aura), you can revive yourself at the end of a Death Enabled thread.
This works a bit differently for Arcosians and every other species. For Arcosians, this method works as follows: When an Arcosian character dies, they may instead choose to spend 10,000 XP to become an Android instead. Doing this removes all former traits, and replaces them with Durable Body, Overdrive Module, and Anti-Sensing Aura. Androids created this way cannot Rebuild.
Lastly, there is Mechanization for most non Arcosian species, which works as follows: When a non-Arcosian character dies, they may choose to spend 25,000 XP to become an Android instead. Doing this removes all former traits, and replaces them with two of the following: Durable Body, Overdrive Module, and/or Anti-Sensing Aura. Androids created in this way cannon Rebuild.
The only exceptions to these are Majins, Namekians, Bio-Androids and Shinjin, which cannot become Androids through Mechanization outside of very specific circumstances.
The Mechanization application thread is linked here and will have more specific details on how the process works.

OPTION 4: NEW GAME+ |
Sometimes, a character's death can feel like a fitting conclusion to their story, or perhaps you simply don't feel like playing them anymore. When this happens, you can elect to not continue playing as them, and instead opt to archive your character for a New Game+ transfer to an entirely brand new character. All your previous character's PL, XP, and item XP will be added up together, and 80% of the total will be granted to your new one in the form of raw XP, on which you can choose to spend anything!
If you'd like to transfer your character for this option, you may do so in this thread here. You may also read up more about New Game+ and its other variants in this post here!
Death comes at a high price, but it isn't without it's rewards! When a character is dead, and chooses to stay in the Afterlife, they will receive a boost to the rate at which their XP is converted into PL! The normal 1:1 ratio of XP:PL is boosted to a 1:1.25 rate for as long as they remain in Heaven or Hell! Training comes much easier without a body to weigh you down. Afterlife Only Items will also be available for purchase to those who are dead, which come with unique benefits or similar benefits to regular items, but at a lower price!

AFTERLIFE TUTORS |
The most exceptional among both good and evil may be lucky enough to be selected for special tutoring by none other than either King Kai, for those who go to Heaven, or Beelzebub, for those who are sent to Hell. These two offer unique, special techniques that can only be taught by them, and can be very valuable and powerful tools in combat. While the specifics of these techniques have yet to be unveiled, rest assured, those who learn them will receive a powerful edge in any fight they partake in.
I WANT TO COME BACK TO LIFE |
Don't we all? Don't fret, though, for there are several ways in which a deceased character can return to the living realm.
- Going Ghost - As detailed above, switching your race to Ghost allows free travel back to the living realm, though at the cost of a worse XP:PL conversion rate, and generally weaker transformations than most other races.
- Wished Back - The legendary Dragon Balls can be used in order to wish someone back to life! While your own character cannot really have any say in how the wishes may unfold (unless they go Ghost and try to wish themselves back to their former race), you may be lucky enough to have allies, family or friends who cared enough about you to brave death in order to rescue you from it.
- Soul Recycle - Some people like taking matters into their own hands without the permanent penalties that come with reviving as a Ghost or Android bring. For those people, the Soul Recycle Machine is the way to go! Players may purchase a Soul Recycle Key to get this process started. After purchase, players may activate the Soul Recycle Machine to be brought back to life for a mere 1,000,000 XP. However, for every month a character has the Soul Recycle Keys in their inventory, this cost is halved! You can read more about Soul Recycling in this thread here.
MY MINION DIED |
Oh no! Unfortunately, most of the above doesn't apply to a minion's death. Fortunately, though, reviving minions is a fairly simple, if expensive process. A minion may be revived by the player through spending half of the minion's base PL in the form of XP. For example, if your minion of 50,000 PL dies, you're going to need to cough up 25,000 XP in order to revive them. Ghosts are an exception to this, however, and require only 25% of their PL to be paid in XP. Alternatively, you can choose to wish them back through the Dragon Balls as well, for free!
Minion revival requests can be placed in the XP to PL conversion thread.
