The cold wind howled in Mocci’s ears as she marched through the thick blizzard. Just a few years back, she had been taught a method of maintaining her body temperature even in these harsh conditions. It was a breathing technique that incorporated her ki and it made it so that even if the midst of a blizzard, she could still wear what she always would, her school uniform. Would be it safer to come to these snowy peaks of the north in an actual outfit of weather-protective gear? Yes, she wasn’t simply trying to hike a mountain.
She came out here to train, and as fun as blowing up rocks in the wastes, shooting empty bottles off the counters in abandoned bars, or breaking thieving vending machines were, she needed to expand her scope of expertise. So that’s what today was all about. She was going to practice focus and endurance, the former of which she could definitely use some work. She couldn’t keep breaking everything in the cities whenever she got upset or really anything. She was strong, but holding back her power the second she became upset or anything besides content and calm was a challenge and quickly becoming a problem for her. She never was able to go back to that beach after making a trench right down the middle of the shore…
So that’s what she hoped to solve today. If she could maintain focus to retain her body heat and do so long enough to hike up to the peak of the mountain, then she’d be ready to be a normal person when she needed to be. Her hands clenched into fists as she steeled herself to go on. When she was scoping out a place for her training regimen, a few of the elderly residents in the town just at the mountain’s base told her of some weird folk tale. Something about how storms always kicked up at the mountain when a woman approached its base. Well, it must’ve heard she was coming, Mocci thought. Because the wind was bucking like a wild animal before she had even got there. But she wasn’t going to let something like the weather stop her, not when it was arguably one of the easier hurdles in this self-inflicted challenge to overcome.
She exhaled a deep breath as she continued to march through what felt like a blank and featureless landscape. The heavy winds of the blizzard and the pure snow on the ground gave Mocci the feeling of nothingness. She had no idea where she was going. She already didn’t know what the area looked like, so she couldn’t simply pick out landmarks. But even if there were any to mark her trail, she couldn’t see more than three feet in front of her. She was barely an hour into this trip and there was still nearly a day’s worth of marching ahead of her. But she already felt spite for the very weather of the mountain.
If there was some sort of sentience to this mountain that sensed her coming, that sensed her desire train, then it was certainly conspiring to make her fail. This wasn’t just training now, she was being given a challenge by the very elements themselves. Her breathing faltered for just a moment to allow Mocci to huff in frustration. At that moment, however, her focus would falter along with her breathing, letting the merciless cold assault her skin. Her previous posture, her fists at her side and her confident composure, crumbled in an instant as she’d wrap her arms around herself in an attempt to retain her warmth. She had been using that breathing technique since before she even arrived at the mountain, and now she was thankful she had. She probably would’ve turned away had she known it would be this hellish of a climb.
She needed to calm down again though. She needed to control herself or else she’d just keel over here and now. The girl slowly and shakily lowered her arms back down to her sides, clenching her hands back into fists as she slowed her breathing down while forcing her shivering to cease. She’d do so just long enough so that she could maintain her breathing. Slowly, her body temperature would rise up to normal. This was going to be a lot harder than she first thought. Maybe challenging herself not to fly to the peak was a mistake. Then again, the only challenge there would’ve been the wind. Not so much the cold weather or the frigid snow. She could fly back down, but the way up had to be entirely on foot. Whether she liked it or not.
Mocci continued on, finally making her way towards something she could see. It wouldn’t be much, just a small mountainside forest. The trees would be barren of leaves while the forest was seemingly barren of life. It’d almost be haunting if she could spare the time to think on those observations without succumbing to the cold again. Instead, the girl marched through what seemed to be a clearing of sorts, a path where the trees split apart in the hopes that she’d find the way further up the mountain. Doubts kept creeping into her mind as she forced herself to take step after step. Why did she even want to learn to control her strength? It wasn’t too long ago that all she wanted was to be strong, why throw that away? Just last week she wondered why she should even stay on the dirtball of a planet! There had to be something out there for her somewhere. But she didn’t even know what she wanted in the first place, how could she tell what that thing was, whatever it might be?
“Damn it…” Mocci murmured under her breath, a visible cloud escaping from her lips as her warm breath met with the cold air. There must’ve been something keeping her here that she didn’t even know about. The only question was, did she want to bother finding out what it was?

" Remember, Strangers can either be a blessing or a curse, it's up to you to know which is which." " How can you tell?" " Everyone's different, but for most... I look for which way they run when danger comes a'knockin'." Wendigo smelled the presence of the newcomer long before seeing them, it was a scent that reminded her of the animals she had spent her time within the wilderness of the snow-covered forests hunting mixed with the scent of Earth Cities that she had come to easily recognize. It was the faint hint of poisonous materials within their mass-produced clothing and the smell of pollution that - although it was greatly lessened compared to the civilizations she had witnessed over the last twelve-thousand and such years, was still a scent that would always remind her of Humans. There was however a sweetness mixed with all of the other scents that she had not smelled in some time, like that of wild flowers in bloom - most likely a female, like herself, as those were the only ones she knew to have such a scent, that she had encountered anyway.
Finishing a hasty meal consisting of mainly raw animal meat for sustenance and melted snow for water, Wendigo would make her way quickly and familiarly toward the depths of the Forest where William's Cabin was located, knowing that this newcomer would eventually come across the cabin as it was the only structure left firmly standing in the area thanks to Wendigo's rage-fueled rampage several years ago that had resulted in most of the trees near the cabin being smashed or otherwise destroyed save for a singular large tree which rested just behind the Cabin and which bore a makeshift sign that Wendigo had carved the name "William" into with one of her claws and placed into the ground at the base of the tree.
Hiding within what trees remained around the cabin, Wendigo would tilt her head back and let out a loud sound that resembled the guttural roar of an animal that was admittedly one of the few methods of verbal communication she was capable of due to the fact that, although she had a tongue and 'mouth' per-se, her vocal cords were unable to produce any sort of proper Human language - at least as of yet. Her roar would pierce the stillness of the area and, as Wendigo hoped, would cause the newcomer to preferably leave the place that she continued to guard even after refusing to stay within its confines - even accepting that she was indeed a monstrous creature, Wendigo could not bear to see the old man's home be left empty and abandoned, choosing to instead keep it active as if he were still living inside of it while also not doing so herself.
Wendigo now waited, her eyes fixated into the distance as the harsh winds of the blizzard kicked up snow and deposited it along her body. Before long, with regards to the blizzard, Wendigo was almost covered in a thin layer of snow as she refused to move from her watchful spot - perhaps even being mistaken for a sort of odd scarecrow of sorts if one had seen her in the distance. She wanted to know who this newcomer was, however, at the same time she hoped that they would leave... Her hunger for Humans had begun to manifest itself again after so long feasting upon only animals, and she did not wish to partake in such things only a short distance from where her only friend was buried.
Were they even aware? Wendigo wondered. Was this newcomer not told of the monster that prowled the Forests atop the snowy mountain and lurked within its forests? How could they had not heard of the disappearances? Of the strange noises in the night? Or perhaps... did they believe those all to be merely myths? Wendigo was uncertain, but she supposed such things were unimportant now - it was all a matter of whether this Human was going to run away, or run in the direction of the impending danger.

As the loud roar filled the air, covering what could have very well been the entire mountain, Mocci’s head turned in its direction. What in the Kami’s name was that? It was like some mix between the roar of a bear and the roar of…well about every predator she could imagine. The girl smacked her lips as if tasting something in her mouth as she felt the area for any spikes of energy. It wouldn’t take her more than a second to feel the surge of ki coming from someone or something in the dead zone that was the whole mountain. She couldn’t quite pinpoint it, but she could gauge its general direction. She wanted to say it was another person. Someone else besides her that might just be nearby where that hellish sound came from. But either their presence was overshadowing whatever made that roar, or whatever made that roar was exactly what she was sensing.
Nonetheless, she felt the need to investigate. If it was something dangerous, it could be a problem for the villagers at the base of the mountain if it ever decided to leave. If it really was some sort of monster, it was probably hunting all of the game off the mountain. That’d explain why she could hardly feel anything else living on the mountain. There wasn’t anything. For a moment, Mocci considered simply flying off towards it before it had a chance to run off. The problem with that, however, was that she needed to focus as much as she could on breathing properly, or else she’d freeze quickly, and even if that wasn’t an issue, the thick snow meant that she’d be more than likely to fly face-first into a tree before she got anywhere near that thing.
No, it might not get her there as quick as she’d hope, but walking would be the solution that kept her head on her shoulders. Mocci turned to March through the thick of the forest, each lift and lowered motion of her foot crushing the sound beneath which would make a soft crunch sound. She recalled hearing a few stories, not only of the mountain’s spirit that apparently conjured blizzard at the mere mention of a woman trying to climb it, but of a beast. A beast that materialized as a result of the peoples' disrespect of nature. the elderly said it was something along the lines of ‘nature’s retaliation’ or something like that. They shorthanded it to just ‘The Wendigo’, something a lot easier to say, but nonetheless hard to comprehend. Mocci just chalked it up to the musings of spiritual people too afraid to climb up the mountain, but now she was worried that there might’ve been more to their tale than she initially believed.
As she’d continue to march, Mocci would follow a trail of broken trees and destroyed land. The destruction would grow in intensity the further and further she walked, but would suddenly end as she came upon the first landmark she saw since climbing up this mountain. A simple cabin, which seemed to be untouched by whatever was destroying the surrounding area. Curiously, she’d begin to approach the homestead, cautiously looking around as she’d do so. It had to be around here, the girl thought. She could still feel it, but she just couldn’t pin down where.

" Why would they run toward danger? Is that not against their nature?" " It is, but it takes a special kind of person to ignore their instincts, wouldn't you agree?" The Human is still approaching Wendigo inwardly noted to herself as she tracked the smell which begun to come closer and closer to her, and by extension, William's Cabin. She would make her way around the side of the building to the front just as she would catch a glimpse of a girl approaching the Cabin. She was not at all who Wendigo had expected to see make their way all the way up the mountain and to the Cabin, she seemed rather young and furthermore was dressed in clothing that she figured would do little to protect against the harsh cold that Wendigo herself had long since acclimated to from living on the mountain for decades upon decades. What was this strange girl doing here? Why did she continue even after Wendigo had attempted to ward her off with the powerful roar from moments ago? She had so many questions yet her primary focus was on ensuring that the girl did not disturb the Cabin that Wendigo had spent so many years carefully ensuring stayed exactly the way that William had left it the day that he died, down to the fresh hunts which she would leave inside every single morning before leaving to stay in the wilderness where she felt that she truly belonged. She had gone practically feral those first several years and had only just recently regained most of her sense, however, anything that had to do with William or his Cabin triggered a primal rage within Wendigo that would quickly cause her to lose her senses. The harsh blizzard would begin to worsen even further, Wendigo's body becoming coated in a thin layer of snow as a strange aura of dark energy would begin to resonate from the body of Wendigo as she felt her senses slowly give way to a familiar instinctual nature as her final thought beforehand would be a singular one in which she reminded herself to keep the Cabin and the Tree under which William was buried safe at all costs. Lunging forward with animal-like speed and ferocity, Wendigo would attempt to rush the girl head-first and tackle her if she did not react quickly enough due to the intensifying blizzard mixed with her curiosity toward the Cabin. Whether or not she was successful, Wendigo would begin snapping her bare jaw at the girl while muttering words in a strange, harsh sounding language which seemed to be the only type of speech she was capable of due to the fact that she lacked a proper mouth to speak in a familiar Human language. If she were unsuccessful in landing her tackle on the girl, Wendigo would be forced to stumble somewhat before rounding on her once more and attempting instead to let loose a series of swipes with her claws. If she had been successful, however, Wendigo would use these claws in an attempt to forcefully hold on to the girl and make her still as she attempted to bite into her with rows of sharp and already bloodstained teeth. One thing was certain upon observing her in this state, Wendigo was effectively a feral animal and as such, Mocci would need to react quickly if she wished to make it out of this encounter unharmed - or at the very least, alive.

Mocci would be caught off-guard as Wendigo suddenly lunged at her from the snow. Her eyes widened as she laid her gaze upon their monstrous figure. The black cloak contrasting against the white snow along with what looked to be a deer skull with sharp, bloodstained teeth. It was real?! The Spirit of the Mountain was a real thing?! No, this had to be something different. there had to be some other explanation for it. Those geezers at the bottom of the mountain couldn’t be serious! The girl jumped back, barely dodging out of the way of the monster’s first attempt to tackle her. It really didn’t matter where this thing came from or what it even was, now did it? What mattered was that it was now trying to kill her, and it was probably going to if she didn’t focus.
As the girl leaped back, she’d find herself skidding, unable to get any traction in the thick snow as the Wendigo would come closer once more with a flurry of slashes with her bone-like claws. “Aagh!” the girl cried out in pain. What in the hell was this thing? This wasn't the energy she was sensing just a moment ago, this was something way worse! But, if left alone on the mountain top, it would more than likely hunt all of the game away from the forest. That much was obvious, but once it did that, it might just be brave enough to move down towards the villagers. Damn it, she hated involving herself in this kind of stuff! This wasn’t her problem, but if she left them to their own devices, those villagers would die, plain and simple. If she just ran, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself.
As the Wendigo’s jaw would open to try and bite her, a bright white aura would flare up around Mocci. An aura that might’ve been hidden to the naked eye in the white void that was the blizzard the two were in. In the same moment, a small, glowing white ball would form in the palm of her right hand as she’d extend it out and up towards the monster. “How ‘bout you eat this?!” she yelled. At that moment, a foot wide beam of white ki would shoot at from her hand towards Wendigo’s head. Whether or not she would hit, Mocci would take the opportunity to jump back once more, her back to the Cabin in an attempt to put space between herself and the other. She was caught by surprise and simply wanted to recollect herself before she tried her hand at engaging the beast head one like that.

It was in-part due to the surprise of the attack, coupled with the feral nature in which Wendigo was attacking that caused Mocci's Ki-Beam to actually manage to knock off a sizable portion of the jaw which she had been using to bite at the girl and left the monstrous female's tongue hanging out freely below the top half of her jaw which had remained fully in-tact, a black substance dripping from her tongue and onto the snow as she brought herself back to a standing position only to then hunch in her posture and lunge forward again with incredible speed, rearing up once she had gotten close and raising a claw to deliver a powerful slash at the girl with the full weight of her momentum as well as the strange energy which surrounded her behind the attack. If this was not sufficient in dropping the girl onto the ground, Wendigo would attempt a second swipe with her claws without the additional power behind them, otherwise she would loom over the girl and let out a throaty growl.
If she were aware of herself, Wendigo would perhaps attempt to tell the girl that her attacks would do little in stopping her and that a Human would not survive very long in these conditions combined with the exhaustion of combat, however, she was not in the right mind and furthermore was in no position to be speaking either telepathically or otherwise. Right now all that mattered was killing this individual who had dared to come close to the place, she needed to protect this Cabin, it was important to her. It was... Why was it important? Why did this place mean so much to her?
Wendigo's head began to pound and caused her to grip her skull from both side with her clawed hands and stumble away from the girl somewhat and catching herself on a nearby tree. She looked to the tree and her eyes darted over the perfectly preserved exterior, to the sign which had been crudely carved and placed at it's base. "William." The name seemed so very familiar, yet she just could not place it. Pain now began to resonate from her chest as well, causing her to grip at her robe with one of the hands that had previously been on her head as the other remained against the tree in order to prop herself up. Disjointed, images of a peaceful home and a quiet, gentle old man would begin rushing through her mind and the name, William, would continue to find itself at the forefront of her thoughts again and again.
Wendigo looked to the girl, if she had not outright already attempted to attack her again - If she had, Wendigo would be too stunned from her own current state to defend herself properly and would be easily knocked to the ground or otherwise. She wondered who this person was and why their presence made her feel so angry... Was it because they were so close to William's Cabin? A sense of shock would then come over her: William's Cabin she thought... She was protecting William's Cabin, but this Human was different from the others that had roamed up the mountain; She did not look to be here seeking some hidden treasure or other fanciful artifact that the Humans below apparently told those who traveled up the mountain of. She looked, to her, like a scared child fighting for their life.
It was this that finally made Wendigo come to her senses as the dark energy would begin to leave her, but not before performing one last action in repairing the missing piece of her jaw and allowing her to speak in a broken words that consisted of harsh syllables and tones that normal Humans could not even wish to make which attempted to convey, despite the appearance of things, to the girl in some way that she no longer wished to fight:
"Wyl...Ee...Um..." She began, completely butchering her pronunciation as she attempted to speak further. "Ka...Ben..."
In a matter of moments, the feral creature that had seemingly attacked unprovoked and out of nowhere... Was appearing to be in some sort of distress and even trying to communicate to Mocci - It was definitely something out of the ordinary, to say the least.

As the light of her attack dimmed, Mocci’s eyes would widen with fear as she saw that after receiving a direct hit from as much power as she could muster, the monster did little more than stumble back. Her eyes were drawn to its now missing, lower jaw, seeing the strange, black substance drip down and stain the snow. There was no way, the girl thought. It didn’t even dodge, it didn’t do anything. She hit it head-on with everything she could muster, and it hardly cared. She’d be so caught up in her surprise, that she’d once again be caught off-guard as the Wendigo lunged forward with her claw attack.
Mocci tried to raise her arms to defend herself instinctually, only to swiftly be given deep, horizontal slashes along her forearms. She reeled back, letting out a sharp cry of pain, unable to defend herself as another slash of the monster’s claws would dig into her torso, sending her to the ground. Her mind was scrambling, the muscles in her arms throbbing wildly while she could feel her chest and stomach convulsing. Her nerves were firing off on all cylinders as they desperately tried to process what had just happened to them, along with Mocci herself. The first thing she knew was that it was cold. She wasn’t able to keep up her breathing technique as her breathing suddenly became sporadic. The frigid cold of the blizzard was not only assaulting her skin but now her very core as the cold seeped into her wounds. Blood dripped from her newfound wounds, straining the snow varying shades of pink and red as she desperately tried to stand herself.
This was horrible. An attack like that wouldn’t even kill her normally, Mocci thought. It was a trip to the hospitable and an awkward conversation with the doctor if she could get away, but that’d be it, but no. Her eyes lifted to look up at the Wendigo, who just seemed to be staring at her as the jaw she worked so hard to just broke seemed to now be piecing itself back together. Well, that was just wonderful. Even if by some miracle this thing decided to go somewhere else and just leave her alone, she’d probably die to the cold anyway. What a wonderful way to go. Sure taught her what she got for trying to help people. Maybe that lesson would transfer over to the next life.
Mocci let out small whines of pain through clenched, chattering teeth as she continued to stand herself, her gaze still locked on the beast. But instead of lunging at her again, it would stand still. She even saw it’s jaw moving. But not in a menacing manner where it might’ve been sadistically showing off its teeth or something. It was almost like it was trying to talk to her. Even still, it was hard to trust something that just tore into you with what felt like razors for fingers. She held a single hand up in what looked like a ‘stop’ gesture, but in reality, she’d be preparing to launch a counterattack the second it even looked like this thing would come closer to her.
She didn’t know if she should speak. Was it trying to? It was moving its mouth and making noise. But that could be anything for something as feral as this! “S-Stay away!” Mocci exclaimed as blood would still drip from her raised arm and onto the pure snow.
