Zhalla and Amara like this

We were having a discussion in the chat and it was suggested by enough people that this would work better here so there could be more visibility.
I'm not sure if this is so much an idea or a suggestion but more of a statement of my own viewpoint. Some agree some disagree but I'm speaking for myself so not to muddy any points from anyone else and so if they want they can speak for themselves. that being said;
My thoughts on the changes, and I know I'm new but I feel are valid thoughts regardless, are the changes to moving lmb and malus to conversions instead of gains of xp massively impacts items. From my understanding, lmb and malus were implemented specifically as a catchup mechanics so newer or lower xp total players could catch up to those far ahead. So speeding up the gains of one while slowing the gains of the other.
The system has now moved that all into xp to pl conversions which seems more clearly to show that lmb and malus is for PL catchup not xp catchup. My view is that it doesn't just alter gaining pl but gaining items, and fairly drastically, especially with also having items only cause 75% of a hit against xp (in regards to malus and lmb). This specifically means someone in LMB is incentivize to go for PL to try and catch up, and while not purposefully seems to deincentivize going for items as it not only is now slowing your progression to catch up as you are not spending xp on pl, you are also tacking on to your lmb total putting you closer to being removed from LMB. This also does the opposite of incentivizing higher people in malus to want to go for items.
There was an argument that items like armor, or the blood ruby are better early game, and that might be true to a degree for early game vs early game, but the meta of the site is not early game. Those items are usually used more so in death enabled threads from everything I've gathered, which would also in my opinion deincentivize anyone in a lower bracket from joining a DE if they are not only lower in pl but not having the "de" items such as sensu beans, while on the opposite end someone in malus would not only have more pl but likely the items for that scenario as well.
This also reaches as far as the DEs themselves where the gains are fairly beefy, and if someone that is higher pl is more likely to join one for the previously stated reasons, that also gives them an advantage to gaining over someone that doesn't have as much easy access (again for the previously stated reason) so they might stay clear of a DE, meaning no bigger gains, less chance of triggering de related transformations and the like.
-----------------------------------
Essentially what I'm saying is I believe the changes to lmb and malus being shifted directly into pl is a lot more far reaching that only xp to pl conversions as it impacts numerous other avenues of the site and maybe not in the short term, but could change things drastically in the long term. I understand there are changes coming to scaling, but I don't think that will change my point here as I feel it would have been essentially the same with this version of lmb/malus or the previous version. Perhaps there are other changes I'm unaware of that haven't been announced yet, but I feel that maybe a sweep over items would have been a good idea along with this change given how drastically it has the potential of affecting items and how it could be a meta shift for who has better access to them in a theoretical sense based on changes current and coming.
I know I'm new, and I know not everyone agrees with my viewpoint, but I felt it was worth pointing out. Hopefully I was clear and thorough enough trying to touch on all the points I saw specifically. It felt like pointing out things that could be issues was as important as pointing out things that were obviously issues.
