NAME: Glocken
ALIASES: The Exiled Agida
SPECIES: Namekian [Dragon Caste]
AGE:11
GENDER: Appears Male
STARTING PLANET: Namek
APPEARANCE:
BACKGROUND:
Glocken was born as the third child of Elder Marim, the leader of Agida village. Marim and Agida village were famous, or perhaps infamous for their strict adherence to orthodox Dragon Caste tradition, unwilling to budge even an inch from the ancient precepts and values passed down over countless Namekian generations. The words of the Elders neared divine pronouncements, and all children of the village were expected to learn and memorize thousands of quotes, lessons and magics of Namekian elders long since dead and turned to dust, and Glocken was no exception to this rule.
The first four years of the young Namekian’s life passed slowly in this manner, stuck in a musty hut every single day reading out of dusty tomes and crumbling scrolls. Glocken found such things mildly interesting of course, it was strangely comforting to know of his people’s storied history, but where he truly thrived was in the evening lessons, where their elders taught them how to channel their inner ki and magic. The young Namekian was, to put it simply, a genius, easily mastering lessons in an hour that took his siblings and peers days to even begin to understand. The Namekian voraciously devoured text after text on everything from telepathy to Agida village’s signature pyromancy, quickly leaving his year far behind him.
The Namekian’s elders watched in harsh disapproval at such ambition and raw skill. Hatchings were not supposed to advance at such a rate: their first five years were to be devoted solely to philosophy and clan history, along with some light supportive magic in order to better the clan. They were not supposed to be equivalent to sixth years at the age of three, and certainly not supposed to be a skilled as Glocken was becoming!
They censured the child, punished him and tried to hold back his progress as much as they could so that he could fit into the mold expected of such a bright child. Glocken tried his best to work with them as well as he could; he didn’t WANT to disappoint his father and his councilors, but somehow, he couldn’t help himself. He never intended to leap ahead of his classmates, but his mind simply deciphered the lessons faster then they could, and then the young Namekian found it hard not to try and apply said lessons to other areas. Eventually Glocken simply couldn’t take the strain of trying to balance the pressures, and ran away from his village, into Namek’s vast plains.
It was likely Glocken would have died of thirst if he hadn’t been discovered by Grand Elder Percus, who found the young Namekian on the verge of death a day’s walk from his home. The legendary teacher took the young Namekian back to his home, nursing him back to health and gradually revealing the truth of the situation from Glocken’s mind. Feeling for the child, Percus negotiated with Elder Marim to take the boy on as a pupil and ward for the standard five years.
This period was the happiest of Glocken’s life, as he was finally able to learn and grow as he wished rather than trying to live up to an ideal that simply felt too constraining. Indeed, Percus grew somewhat concerned at how the Namekian focused on his studies to the exclusion of everything else, often ignoring opportunities to engage with his peers in favor of a new lesson or historical tome. At the completion of his training, Glocken returned to Agida village, only to find horror awaiting him.
Glocken had known about the Great Dragonball Hunt sparked by the reveal of Namek but hadn’t really seen the level of destruction from his relatively isolated position. His ancient villages’ lands were devastated, their homes scorched and burned from stray ki attacks cast from the hands of offworlders. Glocken was utterly devastated by the state of his childhood home and was crushed by guilt that he wasn’t there to help his people. The Namekian spent the next six months working with Agida’s refugees and helping them rebuild their home, only to be immediately confronted by the entire village the moment he helped lay the final foundation stone. The villagers of Agida stared at him with hard, accusing eyes, blaming him, one of the strongest Namekians the village had ever produced, for not being there the moment the village helped. Marim himself confronted his grief-stricken son, simply shaking his head, telling the young Namekian just how disappointed he was that he had chosen to fufill his own desires rather then be there for his people. The Namekian, by all rights, should have been exiled the moment he returned, but he was "spared" in order to atone, without his knowledge of course. And so, Glocken's own father exiled him from ever entering Agida village ever again.
Lost and without purpose, Glocken heard of the new Guru founding a school to help better defend Namek for future incursions by off-worlders.
It is here our story begins.
