COFFEE DREGS
Pepper's PL: 12 | Ursa's PL: 27,400 | Items: None
The tip of a pen idly tapped the edge of a paper, one of many in the messy leaflet assembled on the grated table. Tiny blotches of ink were left behind as the motion continued, suddenly halting as the hand controlling the writing utensil paused, an audible sigh escaping the lips of the person above. Pepper placed the inky tool down, leaning back in her seat. It was an unusually sunny and warm day, especially for how late in the season it was getting. More and more often, double layers and boots were needed to get around comfortably though to be fair, Pepper blamed that on her small stature and lack of bulging muscles. It was the rear of the weekend, the last day before starting the cycle of work and school all over again.
And what better way to spend these last hours of freedom than to sit outside a coffee shop at seven in the morning and finishing up homework she forgot she had? Best to get it out of the way early, she reasoned. Well, that, and she had to wake up at this time regardless in order to care for Ursa and make sure that the Plexbit didn't get into trouble right away. Said android was currently sitting quietly in the satchel at her side as Pepper finished the lengthy process of actually waking up, a stifled yawn coursing through her body. Taking another sip of the hyper-caffeinated drink, the girl debated whether or not trying to finish maths homework this early was actually a good idea whatsoever. Trigonometry wasn't necessarily difficult, but...
Unbeknownst to the human stationed at it, this very pastry and coffee shop had advertisements plastered all around the city. Used to filtering out superfluous advertising and claims, a less veteran shopper (namely, Aliens) might be enticed by the wild claims that this humble shop hosted the 'best coffee and donuts in the world*'. (Which in Pepper's opinion, they were mid-tier at best, with the strongest positive being the cheap price and seating). And even in that case, Pepper hadn't quite figured out that the Plexbit in her bag wasn't shielded from Energy Sensing or a Scouter of any kind, making sensing Ursa rather easy... just that Pepper hadn't quite run into that issue just yet.

Earth was a lot of things Kuma wasn't a fan of, and Earth was filled with a lot of things she would have preferred to stay clear of. She as used to certain rules and the lack of others and just couldn't manage to fit in despite no one making her feel that way, but no matter what she did she felt uncomfortable. The weather was constantly changing in odd ways, the landscape was okay but it changed just as drastically as the weather between deserts and snowy mountain and giant people filled cities it was a bit of sensory overload. Namek was boring but it was easy to take everything in and find comfort, but the ball of floating space dirt called Earth was not her style.
The planet did however hold a few things that kept her attention enough to either be a pleasant distraction, or in the case of a specific trek today, outright new obsessions. A strong gust blew through the coffee shop as the door heavily swung open and an excitable looking female Saiyan stepped into view, suddenly yelling out, "COFFEE!", as she pointed toward the nearest person behind the counter. It was clear this wasn't her first time given their near groan of a reaction, but she had seemingly been there enough times they started making whatever it was as if it was a routine by now. Grabbing a chair from one of the tables she walked by, she slid it up to the counter and planted a single foot on it as she held out her hand just as the cup was being placed in it, tossing them some coins from a small pouch attached to her belt. "Hell yeah!", the Saiyan called out as she looked at the cup much like someone might have the love of their life. Whatever it was it didn't last long as the woman downed it like a shot as she slapped the cup on the counter with a loud satisfied "Aaaah", noise and wiped her mouth. It looked as if someone had injected a mixture of refreshing cold shower and joy into her veins as her eyes opened wider and a smile crept across her face.

Pepper sipped lightly at her own drink, only slightly fazed by the sudden appearance of the rambunctious Saiyan. Blinking slowly, the human watched with amusement as the poor staff braced themselves for the other girl's arrival, setting to work on making a cup. Pepper hadn't seen her around before, but that didn't mean much. She tended to go to different places every day rather than develop a habit or 'regular' place. She'd lived in the city long enough that most of the locals knew her anyway, but she wasn't a frequent customer of any one particular store. Sighing, Pepper finally relented - slipping the multitude of sheets back into one of her satchel pouches as the girl realized she wouldn't be able to really get any work done.
Besides, there was something charming about watching this other girl get so excited over a simple cup of coffee. Pepper wasn't exactly able to pinpoint why... after all, she looked like a completely normal human. Besides the slightly odd choice in clothing, there was nothing terribly off about her. No whacky colors, extra limbs, nothing. Huh. Maybe she was just new in town or naturally excitable? Not every eccentric person had to be an alien, after all! That would be rude to assume. "Yeah their stuff is pretty good here." Pepper called out, attempting to make small talk.
"Is it, uh, your favorite or something? You really seem to be getting into it." Sitting up at her seat, she'd offer Kuma a bright smile. "Not that there's anything wrong with liking a thing and showing affection for it! I'm just a bit curious as most folks around here don't really wear their hearts on their sleeves like that." intrigued by the commotion, URSA begun to stir slightly in Pepper's bag - slightly jostling it as the human attempted to discreetly ward the Plexbit off from causing any trouble.

Kuma's eyes were as wide as they were physically capable of being as she turned to face Pepper with a smile, nodding to her in response as she turned back and slapped the counter a few times. "More more more.", she exclaimed as she grabbed the pouch and dumped all the coins she had in it over the counter and motioned towards them. "Give me that many. Biggest cups you have. In a bucket if you have to." This was her however manyeth time here to the point she had lost count since she found it, and of all the things awkward about Earth, Coffee was her new addiction without a doubt. It was a few moments longer as cup after cup was laid on the counter for her and the smile on her face continued to grow somehow, till she was walking away towards the girl who had addressed her with her arms full.
As she was moving away from the counter a tail came whipping out from under her skirt and grabbed a hold of another cup, setting that one down first as she nudged a chair up to the table and sat down. "Hope ya don't mind.", downing cup after cup like water. "Yeah, it's good stuff. We have something similar to coffee on Vegeta, but it's nothing like this, and it tastes pretty gross." Slowly, her eyes shifted towards her moving bag, but looked back up shaking her head a bit. "Not sure what you mean by that.", looking down at her arm as if she had something on it, shrugging. "Well I just like it and I learned not to really care what people think. Where I'm from if you like a thing you show it. If you don't you show it as well. It's just easy that way." Her eyes drifted again, looking over what all the person had on them and their appearance in general. "You look like one of those smart types. Seems a lot of ya come into these coffee places. They don't usually talk to me though."

Watching with thinly veiled concern as the girl demanded even more coffee, Pepper simply sipped at her own drink while the employees begrudgingly replied with Kuma's request. At least Pepper had been heard, though she wasn't sure if that was a positive at this point. Hands full with an exorbitant amount of cups of steaming bean-liquid, she approached Pepper's table. One appeared to almost fall out of her arms, but a tail of all things came out of nowhere to grab and save it. Oh. She wasn't human, then? At least not full-blooded. It was weird how she kept running into every single... quirky Alien that ever visited the city. If she was a betting gal, Pepper would've put money on her having a 'weirdness magnet'.
"No, go ahead..." The human replied lightly, watching with fascination as Kuma began to down cups of coffee with seemingly no pause. "Er..." She was staring. How rude. Make conversation somehow... "Vegeta?" Pepper picked up. "That's where the, uh, 'Saiya-jin' are from right?" She'd never met one before, but recent protocols in school made sure to actually teach people about their closet Alien neighbors. Saiyans looked pretty similar to humans, too, save for them always brown or black hair (naturally) and a tail. Though, the girl didn't seem to get her colloquialism right off the bat, looking at her literal sleeve... "It just means your open about how you feel around strangers." Pepper clarified, relaxing a bit.
"Smart types, huh?" A thin smile crossed the human's face."I guess that's true, but, I don't wanna be egotistical or anything... hm. I actually don't come to shops like this that often, y'know. Falling into a routine sounds boring so I try to spice up where I go every day if I can, with an exclusion to school obviously."

Before she was even given the green light to join the girl she had sat and was downing the coffee, looking like she had a few too many already but no signs of slowing down. Her eyes shot up wide as she smiled, "Vegeta!", as if she understood the question perfectly. "Yup. I'm from Vegeta. Saiyans are from Vegeta. I'm a Saiyan from Vegeta" She was usually at least a bit more reserved when talking, but at this point she was talking increasingly fast without realizing it. "I assume you are an...uh...Earthy? Earthajin? Earthan? Earthling? I'm gonna go with human. You look human.", grabbing another cup and bringing it up to her lips barely in time for her to stop talking as she drank. "I'm open about how I feel around everyone. Like, I got my coffee, a cute girl said hi, so I sat down.", she remembered a recent interaction and started in again before this new person could comment. "Not that I'm hitting on you. People keep thinking I'm hitting on them when I say that. Don't think humans are used to being complimented cause they always think I'm trying to flirt.", going for cup number two.
Kuma hadn't taken her eyes off of Pepper this time, simply blinking and shrugging some at her comment before setting the cup back down. "Yeah, smart types. The types that are smart. You look smart, and you had what looked like smart people stuff when I came in.", tapping the side of her head. "I may not seem it, but I got them good eyes. I notice a lot.", she made a bit of a face, partially sticking out her tongue and making a "bleck", sound at the mention of school. "You Earth guys sure like your school. I mean I went to school sort of, not the same kind you guys have here. Pepple on Earth older than me in school. I guess I don't worry about braining quite as much."
