THE SAIYAN KINGDOM
The Remnants of a Broken Empire
The Saiyan Solar Empire once stretched across the galaxy, a dominant power built upon policies of aggressive expansion and enslavement. However, the influence of various alien cultures began to turn the Saiyans away from a society built upon exploitation towards one which saw political and economic power taking a prominent role alongside martial strength. A first in Saiyan history, this led to a much more stable and peaceful society, even if the violent tendencies that Saiyans were well known for could never truly be washed away. Integration, equality and diplomacy took precedence over conquest and domination. But even as Vegeta entered into this unique branch in its history, things were brought to a sudden crashing halt. The World Trade Fleet struck the Saiyan homeworld, slaughtering countless defenders and routing the remnants of the Kingdom. With the heart of its government torn out, it soon disintegrated into a series of disparate fiefdoms as various, powerful individuals competed to take the place of King. For a time, the throne laid empty. With the bulk of the Saiyan remnants fleeing to Earth, it wasn't long before the various competing factions found themselves once again unified, this time under the figure of then-Prince Vocado. Following Saiyan tradition, he laid his claim to the throne and invited all challengers. Although none truly contested his claim, his credentials were put to the test as his allies Xanathrozza Guar and Banzo took turns facing him in single combat. After taking both fights, he was declared King. After forging new alliances on Earth, and witnessing some unfortunate losses at the hands of the World Trade Fleet and at least one, shady Earth-based organization, Vocado launched a full-scale expedition onto Namek to uncover the secret of the Dragon Balls. When they were found to be active and usable on the planet, the hunt for the Dragon Balls began... and with it came a flurry of political change, a phenomena known well to the relatively unstable Kingdom-in-Exile. The Pirate Queen Kayen laid claim to the throne, only to find herself a complete equal to Vocado. As a result, the two have opted to share power with neither claiming the crown -- they now work together, with their score set to be settled on Vegeta, amidst the ashes of the World Trade Fleet.
The hunt on Namek came to a conclusion, but not without bloodshed. In the end, the Saiyan Kingdom stood triumphant with all seven Dragon Balls, unopposed as they gathered to make their wishes. The Trade Fleet's forces on Namek had devastated themselves, and a deal was brokered with a Konatsian prince by the name of Typha to bring him into the fold for the ceremony, along with the Dragon Balls he had gathered. The Saiyans would make good on their friendship with Earth by first reviving the dead from Satan City, slain by the Stargoons and their allies. They would then stack the deck in their favour for the coming liberation of Vegeta by wishing for power, shared amongst the top four in their ranks. Finally, they revived the depleted population of Konats to keep true to their promise to the Prince.
With the campaign on Namek over, the gathered Saiyan forces set off to launch the reconquest of their home planet. Only time will tell if their ploy will succeed...
The Saiyan Kingdom is, of course, run by a monarchy. However, the shape this monarchy takes is quite distinct. The Saiyan crown is one drenched in blood almost as a matter of tradition. After the Kingdom was reestablished in ages past by a king now shrouded in legend, it has become commonplace for new rulers to establish their political control over the Kingdom (or, as it was, Empire) through single combat. This ensures that the monarch is always strong enough to lead his or her nation into battle. Perhaps the most famous of the recent monarchs were the trio of queens who presided over the Empire's dying days: Vennel, Zuccetta and Habana. To date, no ruler has come close to matching these great names... but as the Kingdom returns to war, perhaps a new legend will return to lead the Saiyans back to glory.
Pirate Queen // Primary Leader
Kayen is a powerful pirate that became battle-hardened after staking claim over the entirety of the Raito-zacro system. A descendant of one of the most powerful Queens of the Saiyan Solar Empire, Habana, she has all the pedigree to become a famous ruler in her own right. However, things didn't go quite as smoothly as she had hoped. The Vocado she had imagined and the Vocado she faced were two very different fighters indeed, and she was forced to accept a temporary truce for the time being. Working with her enemy will allow her to deal with some of the larger threats lurking out there, while also giving her the influence to push the Saiyans back down the path she feels is best. The crown won't be going anywhere: she's waited a long time to take the throne. A few more months can't hurt.
Those Loyal to The Crown
THE INNER CIRCLE
The so-called 'inner circle' isn't an official part of the Kingdom's otherwise monarchical structure, but rather exists as the de facto governing body answering directly to the Crown. Comprised of the Kingdom's most influential or powerful warriors, politicians and scientists, those choice few who can be considered the throne's most trusted agents earn a spot in much of the important political deliberations that take place. Given the nature of the Kingdom, this tends to lean towards the military, with those who have proven themselves as capable leaders and warriors at war often standing out from amongst their peers. In times of political instability, those closest to the throne may find themselves to be kingmakers in their own right...
Commander // Second-in-Command
Commander // Second-in-Command
Ramen isn't an obvious candidate for a top member of the Kingdom's inner circle, a South City slacker turned martial artist as a result of family tragedy. However, her determination to establish an alliance between Earth and the Saiyan Kingdom against the seemingly endless onslaught of the World Trade Fleet led her to foster a friendship with the former King, Vocado. After working together briefly on Earth, she helped lead the Kingdom's initial expedition to Namek. Since then, she has seen her stock rise due to her leadership in the field, her role in training the rank-and-file, and her own apparent political competency. It can be hard to tell whether she's actually good at playing the game or whether she's improvising from one day to the next, but as long as she continues to be a reliable hand on the battlefield, it's likely she will continue to be a major player... even if she is just an Earthling.
Ambassador // Secondary Leader
Ambassador // Secondary Leader
Nashua's history with the Kingdom has been anything but perfect. Often the sole voice of reason in a Kingdom filled to the brim with aggressive fighters, she is a rare Saiyan in that she prefers peace and diplomacy over combat for all forms of dispute resolution. This is both her greatest strength and her greatest weakness as one of Vocado's top advisers and friends: although her diplomatic hand has proven itself invaluable at times, it has also gotten both herself and the Kingdom into serious trouble as she has a noted tendency to be a little too trusting and a little too forgiving. At one point, she even lost all ranks and titles after giving over a Dragon Radar to one of the Kingdom's greatest enemies. Since then however, she has made her way back into the good graces of Vocado and has seen her previous status restored.
Duke // Clanmaster
Jingoistic and dramatic, Kalabas represents everything that's right and wrong about Vegeta's upper classes. Despite originally appearing as something of a rival to Vocado, he has proven himself to be a loyal warrior for the Kingdom -- albeit an opinionated one. While he has never really endeared himself to any of his peers, his power is undeniable and his position as an Elite offers him a level of legitimacy largely lacking amongst many of the Kingdom's top warriors. Though no official position has been granted to the Duke as of yet, he may find himself increasingly involved with what remains of the old 'inner-circle' as the Kingdom's need grows in the days to come.
Prince // Outsider
After gathering together the scattered remnants of the Kingdom, Vocado established himself as one of the youngest kings in Saiyan history. He earned the trust of his subjects by leading them through some of the Kingdom's darkest days, forging new alliances and setting about the series of events that should eventually lead to the reclamation of Vegeta. However, his reign did not last for long, as the appearance of Kayen led to a challenge that could only be resolved in a draw after members of his inner circle called an end to the bloody fight. Their second fight would end in triumph and tragedy for the once-King, as he ascended to the status of Super Saiyan only to be defeated in decisive fashion. Vocado has since struck out on his own, refusing to work alongside Kayen... but given his close friendships with other top leaders, his influence will no doubt be felt even in his absence.
Despite its structure as a monarchy, the Saiyan Kingdom is ultimately a meritocracy. Just as any subject of the crown can rise up to hold a prominent position within its command structure, so too can any member of the Kingdom lay stake to the Crown itself. Although many Saiyans remain hung up on bloodline and lineage, even a low-class Saiyan can transcend their supposed disadvantages and rise to the highest office on Vegeta. Ordinary members of the Kingdom range from warriors and commanders to scientists, civilians, politicians, and anything else a Kingdom-in-Exile needs to function on a day to day basis.
Honoring the Past
This is where prominent members of the Saiyan Kingdom will be listed upon their unfortunate deaths. Any Saiyan who had an honourable death in combat may earn the right to have their name recorded to be remembered here. There is no shame in a warrior's death.
The Strongest Saiyan
A Demon-Saiyan Hybrid, Banzo came to be of particular prominence in the aftermath of Vegeta's fall. As one of Prince Vocado's top warriors and most reliable friends, he routinely proved himself to be the most powerful Saiyan alive in his day. Despite his intention to one day return to Vegeta to aid in the reclamation of the planet, tragedy struck when he was tricked into experimentation by a shady organization. Though the details of his descent into madness have never become clear, he met his end after he appeared one day with the title of "Plaguebreaker" and attempted to destroy Crop Co, an organization loosely affiliated to the Saiyan Kingdom through a couple of personal relationships. Through it is a great shame that Banzo was unable to go out on his own terms, his example as one of the most capable fighters of his generation inspired a number of peers: through this, he continues to have an impact on the progression of the Kingdom.
