The destruction of the initiative facility and staff had activated Rook form his stasis, a emergency back up protocol with the objective to save as much of the initiative staff as possible. Due to unknown reasons the protocol had not activated until all members of the staff had been terminated already indicating that some one had tampered with the facility before hand. Still one of the remaining staff must have manually activated him before their death, action that would explain his late awakening but still did not explain who had sabotaged the Initiative. Still with no staff to protect and no facility left to work with Rooks priority's switched to his final objective of protecting human life. Earth civilization was a optional objective but the main objective of his programming was to preserve human life and to further their sovereignty over their all fate. A objective he clearly could not complete in his incomplete state as he was missing his corresponding units Bishop,Knight and Pawn, not to mention his own state of disrepair.
First thing first he would need to create the units to accompany him into battle, a task that was not to difficult due to him already having the schematics for them in the data base. Using his nano machines he could fabricate the parts necessary for his repair and the construction of his fellow units. He would have to settle on collecting the resources himself for their power core, the chassis, cpu data core and finally internal bio circuits needed to process the large amount of data the fellow units would need to be able to fight on the level needed to protect the planet.
With his goals set he quickly took off into the air in search of mineral deposits to create the chassis for his brother units, a task that would be a time consuming effort due to the complex alloy used in their construction. The first trials for the scientists creating rook was the creation of a alloy that would be strong enough to be of use to them, a task that quickly more and more complex with each stress test. Strengthened steel and titanium alloys always proved to brittle for the stress of the predicted combat levels or at the very least too heavy for them to use when compressed to viable levels. Still they toiled on in their research until they created a metallic like alloy they called Everite, a strange material that could store energy in the form of crystal. The strange nature of this alloy allowed for increasing amount of energy to be stored inside the units armored plating via compressed weaves. This energy could thus be dispelled in a away form the units frame in the form of a crude kinetic shield that would repel physical or energy attacks that bypassed the units defenses. The only downside to this alloy was that the energy could not be stored over time and the unit would need to compress it in a short time, thus the strength of the Everite plating strength was limited to the units current power output.
Scanning it finally located a suitable location to start mining for some of the ore need to fabricate the much needed Everite, its systems scanned the depth before it aimed a powerful blast at the ground that created a massive explosion. The thick plume cloud could be seen for miles as rook quickly descended into the crater to begins its excavation, the units hands forming into suitable tools for the task at hand. Its cpu keep going over the numbers of exactly how much material was needed and how much was at its current dig site, a calculation the kept changing back and forth with each bit of impure ore it mined.
A small bit of its cpu began to calculate what what it would need for the units power source, unlike his own they would need different power source to run on as on its own specs its power core was a black box. Unable to pull its schematics form its system it slowly started processing date as it tried to design a substitute power source for its brother units. It would have time to create one as it built their frames, its internal system burning hot as it toiled in its work.

Dark, thick smoke wafting through the bright blue sky caught Okra’s eye while he flew above the Earth. That was strange. It could’ve been a fire. The grass was very dry on this part of Earth after all. Sometimes, even a little spark could set a whole field ablaze. Still, the grass was rather sparse in this area, and there weren’t many trees around. Chances are it was something else, and it wasn’t far from him. He guessed it was around five miles away. He could be there in no time flat.
A dark blue aura flared into place around the saiyan as he picked up speed and changed direction toward the column of smoke. The wind whipped through his hair as he traveled, quickly coming closer and closer to the disturbance. After a minute, the cause of the smoke into view.
A giant crater had formed in the ground, likely caused by the red machine mech looking thing digging around in it. The saiyan wasn’t sure if it picked up on his presence yet, but it seemed to be gathering something from the hole. Minerals perhaps, but for what purpose?
The saiyan slammed into the ground like a rocket near the crater’s edge, kicking up a torrent of dust. As the dust settled, the warrior got a better view of the machine. It reminded him of the mechs he saw when he had gone on that adventure with Safe. He wasn’t sure if it was piloted or autonomous. He couldn’t make out any cockpit, but that didn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t piloted. There was a chance it was controlled remotely too.
Okra crossed his arms, and called out to the mech, “Well, you’ve made a pretty big mess here. What are you looking for here? Kinda destroying the landscape ya know… Not that I really care, but,” he shrugged, “Someone else might. Earthlings can be kind of weird,” a sudden thought occurred to the saiyan. Could the machine even hear him? Could it understand him? If there wasn’t a person piloting it, was there an artificial intelligence that could comprehend conversations? He started to doubt that the thing really could respond...

Pulling rock after rock into its micro fabricator Rook took its time in smelting them down to required metals, its calculations finally coming to the conclusion there was enough resources here for his fellow machines. Still the work to create pure metals and alloys was a slow process as only purest ore could be used in their construction, a task that seemed to be progressing faster then its estimated times placing the android ahead of schedule. It would run the numbers again for its estimated time but for now it focused on designing the new power cores for its brother units, a task it was not getting anywhere with as each design was inherently flawed for this purple.
Fission generators where highly toxic and to fragile when placed under the stress of combat as their where more likely to go into a meltdown. A undesired outcome if they where fighting in or over a city, the radiation fall out alone would kill most of a city. Fusion however did seem to create the desired energy needed and was a much cleaner source of power, its only issue was getting a constant source of fuel that was outside its reach. Without a viable option for a few fuel source it deemed fusion unsuitable for its purposes, a unsatisfactory outcome as many of the other power sources where either not powerful enough or only theory at the moment. Its internal cpu began to overclock as the machine ran theory after theory its feverish attempt at a solution for the issue of power.
Its internal sensors triggered at the identification of the approaching power level, its sensed power level over eighty thousand as it approached. With the danger of being discovered so early in its development Rook started the process to hide away, the danger of being found by such a overwhelming opponent was something he could not allow. Looking for a place to hide his cpu found the solution to his power problem, it was normally a inefficient power source due to a lack of study or lack of high grade resources. Still it would need a living specimen to complete its brothers so shifting its objective it quickly turned to the figure after its arrival, the cold metal motionless as it stared at him.
"Specimen 001.....species Saiyan, power level.....85,000.......suitable test subject"
It finally said emotionless, the synthetic voice deep as it acknowledged the stranger for the first time. With the need for lengthy tests Rooks would need the subject for a extended period of time, a process that would require the subjects cooperation or capture. However due to the difference in power the latter was a nonviable option for his needs, the fact it could also create complications down the road was also undesirable. With its course set the metal machine turned to its guest as it advanced on him in a slow pace in a effort to appear nonthreatening, a normal course of action for a anyone else but it held a almost unnatural menace when he did it. It was only when he was about ten yards form him that it stopped and extended its hand in a friendly gesture.
"Saiyan this unit would like to do a exchange"

The mech approached and acknowledged his presence. The machine’s voice was soulless, without any emotion. Any doubts of a pilot for the mech was wiped from his mind. The synthetic nature of its voice along with its designation of himself clued him in. He didn’t think it was remotely piloted either. It was just a sentient, or at least partially sentient, android mech. Wait a minute, what had it just said about his power level? 85 thousand? WHAT!?!?! His eyes widened in shock. When did he get so strong??!?!?!
The thing slowly advanced on him, and while other lesser beings may have shown fear, Okra, recovered from his initial surprise, merely cocked his head to the side and crossed his arms. The mech stopped about ten yards away from Okra, and to his surprise, held out its arm in a friendly manner. The saiyan gave the machine a cold look for a moment before walking forward and shaking it’s hand. It felt kind of awkward to him, but he was on Earth, the strangest planet in the universe.
He wasn’t totally sure what the machine meant by exchange. So, the warrior merely gave his name, “No need for saiyan or subject 001 or whatever. Just call me Okra. If you’re really curious, Okra Bonemoon,” he paused for a moment, rubbing the pack of his neck awkwardly. He took a quick step back to give himself some space. He lightly continued, “Soooo, you didn’t really answer my question,” he gave a slight shrug, “Which, if you really don’t want to is fine I guess, but,” he shot the mech a curious look that betrayed his inquisitive nature, “What are you exactly? I don’t think you have a pilot or are remotely controlled. So, who created you, and for what purpose?”
It did occur to the saiyan that the machine may not be fully sentient. It was within the realm of possibility that it may only be programmed to answer certain questions. He may very well not get the answers he was looking for, which would be annoying, but not the end of the world.

Running the data Rook found little reason to lie to Okra, at some point Rook would need to form bonds with some of the aliens visiting earth. His data also showed that their was at least a uneasy friendship between earth and the Saiyan which only slider the consensus that honestly might be for the best here. With that his torso turned just enough for rook to point at a small silver vein running though the ground, a sight most people would not even realize was ore much less as valuable as this one was.
"This unit is currently mining to complete construction on its fellow units, this ore will be used to create the chassis of the other 3 units as well as complete this ones body. While the damage looks large it will be unnoticeable in weeks due to strong winds filling quickly."
With that the Unit turned back to the task at hand started to rip of the ground again for more the valuable ore, its hands working much like mining lasers as it slowly pulled chunk after chunk of unrefined ore form the dirt. Still it would need to reply about its origins and under normal circumstances keeping silent meant safety for the initiative or at least would have if their had been any remaining scientists.
"This unit was created by the initiative to combat external threats to earth and would serve as prototype for future models. With the recent invasions on earth it has become clear the earth military is no where near equipped to deal with such threats as such a group of scientists started the initiative. This unit was designed to work in tandem with other units to gather data and evolve to face Earth's enemies. Currently data shows that the Saiyan kingdom is on some what friendly terms....is this data still correct?"
It explained smoothly as it pulled the last bit of ore it needed form the ground, the units core storing the metal until such a time it could fabricate its fellow units. Turning back to its guest Rook looked him over as it weighed its request over in its head, a exchange meant a trade of labor or goods the other wanted. While it was clear Okra had something he needed Rook was not sure what he could offer but until he asked he would not know for sure.
"Subject Okra we require additional resources outside of these metals and one such item is a new power source capable of sustaining us for high end combat. Our current conclusion is such a power source could be made via a bio reactor that creates energy much in the same way as organics do, however we would require a steady stream of cells form a power full specimen to complete such a prototype. As such we would like to use your cells for the bio reactor but this unit is unsure what we might offer in return. We contain many blue prints that may be usable by you in the future or we can accompany you until such a time you have use for us as long as it does not conflict with our primary objective."

Okra gave the mech an odd look when it asked if it could use his cells as samples for some sort of bioreactor. He didn’t like the sound of that, at all. Letting an unknown machine extract anything from his body seemed like a bad idea. He had no clue who or what the mech was working nor any idea of its programming. At the very least, it did seem sentient.
The mech did mention that it was supposed to protect Earth from its enemies. He was curious what the exact parameters of that objective were. He figured he could be considered an enemy of Earth due to him helping Vocado gather the dragon balls. While he had nothing against Earth personally, he knew that Vocado had come into conflict and subsequently killed a member of Earth during his hunt. He wouldn’t mention it to the android, of course. No need to possibly start a fight here.
A frown tugged at his face as he replied, “Well, first of all, surely you have a name other than “this unit”. Second of all, before I offer my energy or cells or whatever to you, what exactly is your objective? You mentioned protecting the Earth from its enemies. Something to do with that?”
The saiyan kicked a rock without paying attention, and by sheer accident struck the mech. Okra give a visible wince as it dinged off the mech’s frame. He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, “Uh shit, sorry about that. That was an accident. Uhm, anyways. How do I know whatever objective you have doesn’t conflict with mine? And honestly,” he furrowed his eyebrows, “I’m not too sure how I feel about a synthetic creation messing with my body or cells. I’m not exactly, comfortable with that, I guess.”

"This unit is the A-16x model or for this unit alone you may call me Rook. Despite being the mass produced model each unit is able to evolve for limitless growth as such each gets their own name"
With no real threat form the rock the android allowed it to bounce off its hard exoskeleton, the resulting sound was nonexistent as the metal absorbed the kinetic energy. Still it watched silently it only stared as it awaited more input form its current subject, its current goals were in chaos as it knew little of the current status of the world. Who was in charge of its defense and who was its enemies, a situation that was unacceptable for many reasons. It would need to try fix that in time but for now it needed as few as people as possible to know of it existence as possible, making it paramount that it get the subject Okra to agree to work with it. Normally it would need to destroy his target if they refused but with the subject being much stronger then itself it was not a option.
".....access granted to the one known as Okra. Prime directives are as follows 1.To follow all commands by the initiative.....Task failed......2.Protection of the human race as a whole. Includes form enemies form afar and form within. 3. The continuation of earthling sovereignty as its own ruler and the protection of its allies."
With the risk of Okra being able to report him it needed his cooperation or at least for the subject to think that it was not his enemy. The longer it could remain free to move as it pleased the more time it would have to prepare for combat that was inevitable for the unit. Turning the androids eyes started to glow for a moment before a hologram appeared in front of it, the light showing up in a tinged green showing the technology was not perfect yet. Inside it showed a image of living cell, a small blue light coming form within as mitochondria produced energy for it cell. It was without a doubt lost on the Saiyan in front of him but rook would not know as it finished showing it before the light vanished.
"As you can see the cell is provides itself with bio energy as with all known earth life forms however most known earth creatures do not harness the amount of energy needed for combat. However subject Okra's cells provide itself with massive amounts of energy that adapt with further use creating more energy as the subject grows in strength. With your cells this unit with create a synthetic cell for its bio reactor that will function much in the same fashion........If this is unsatisfactory will withdraw our request and look for another subject. This unit sure can find another subject which to offer its services for and its allegiance too.

Protection of the human race and Earth’s sovereignty huh? That may just put them at odds. Okra figured some of the earthlings were after the dragon balls. Hell, he knew Vocado had killed one already. Some cat creature he believed. It was likely Rook would identify Okra as an enemy if the machine knew he was allies with Vocado. He doubted the android knew of Vocado, but he was bound to learn in the future.
Okra’s tail wrapped around his waist as he tilted his head to the side, “The energy from my cells huh? You can use that to create a synthetic cell? Or wait, you want my cell tissue so you can replicate it. Right? I understand what you’re getting at.”
He paused to think for a moment. He figured he could ask precisely how the android intended to take a sample of his cell before he denied the request. If it wasn’t too much trouble, he might consider it, “How exactly do you plan to take a sample of my cells? Do you just need a simple skin sample? Or, do you need to get a look at my blood?”
