Suri had been gone for a while. Where was she? Well, you could say that she's been staying home sick...sort of.
One day, Suri just...didn't wake up. No matter what anyone tried, no one in her family could wake her up. This had never happened before, Suri had never even been sick a day in her life! The magic users in the family tried sensing Suri's energy, and after that, it didn't take long to figure out why she wasn't waking up.
Suri's energies were wild and unstable. Her own ki and magic clashed with each other, and she had gained a lot of both over a short amount of time. Unfortunately Suri wasn't ready to handle it, and she had fallen into a coma-like state because of it. After they found this out, they moved Suri to a different bed, one with a special mattress filled with magic talismans made to stablize one's ki and magic. Suri woke up about four months later, to everyone's relief.
After waking up, Suri spent her time practicing, trying to improve her energy control. She had missed halloween, christmas, and even her birthday. She had been in dreamland the whole time, and she hadn't seen her friends and family for so long. She didn't want that to happen again!
Her aunt suggested that she store the power she gained somewhere first, before taking the time to fully make it hers.
"But where would I store magic-ki...? I can't put spiritual force in a fridge!" Suri pondered on. "...Maybe with an amulet or talisman, like my aunts and uncles make? But it's gotta be able to handle my energy... Then I'll make one myself." So Suri got to it right away, trying out all sorts of methods, creating paper tags, bracelets, rings and necklaces...but none of them seemed to work.
Even after days of attempts...
Standing up from where she was sitting, Suri tossed another failed creation into the garbage can. The accessory's color quickly faded away before even falling in, and it crumbled to pieces after contact with the bottom. Suri vented her frustration vocally, as she often did when she believed she was alone. "Mmmm...dangit! I'm not gonna sleep until I make one that works!"
"...Yeah, maybe don't do that." Hana chimed in, walking into Suri's room. Hana was one of Suri's many cousins, all of whom Suri considered to be like brothers and sisters. "But Hanaaaaaaa..." The young Majin jokingly whined, only to be cut off by the Earthling. "No buts." She said with a stern face, though her facade fell apart rather quickly, and the two of them shared a laugh.
Hana smiled, before speaking up again. "Seriously, though, like... Look, I know you've been doing...whatever magicky thing you need to do to make those, I dunno." She pointed at the ripped paper talisman lying on Suri's desk. "I don't know how that works, but I'm sure it tires you out after you do it for a while, just like anything else. Rest is important, you know. Our minds don't work properly when we're too tired." "Or too hungry?" Suri said, and her stomach growled, as if on cue. "Exactly. Oh, speaking of. Dinner's ready. You comin'?" Hana asked, pointing towards the door with her thumb. "...Yeah. I'll be right there. Just gotta...clean up, wash my hands." Suri said, and Hana nodded, satisfied with the response. "Cool, cool. Alright, just making sure you eat." Hana chuckled, before stepping out of the room.
Hana was right, Suri thought. After eating dinner and getting a good night's sleep, she'd have a fresh mind, and a fresh recharge of mana to work with! So, off she went, resting and relaxing. No more worrying about her project today!
And then the next day came.
Had enough sleep? Check. Had breakfast? Check! "Alright, time to get back to... Actually, I think I'll go get some fresh air too."
Suri put on some warm clothes, flew outside, and visited a forest. She liked places like this, quiet and relaxing, and the air felt fresher. She had been here before, but now the once-green scenery of trees and grass had been bleached with white. "Snow..." She liked snow, it reminded her of ice cream...so it only made it better.
Suri crossed a frozen river, and spotted a funny looking icicle out of the many hanging from tree branches. Then, under it, she spotted a bear undergoing torpor in its den. 'You too, Mr Bear?' Suri thought, smiled, before leaving the sleepy beast be.
While walking around some more, Suri reminisced on all the good memories she had with family, with friends. "I haven't seen my friends in a long time..." Suri saw her family again right after she woke up, due to their proximity, but her friends? Contacting them had slipped her mind. "I should check up on them soon, see how they're doing. I hope everyone's doing okay..."
Satisfied with her time outside, Suri flew back home. Once she was back in her room, Suri started work on her project again. This time, she was more relaxed, and not rushing herself. And she was more successful! She was doing much better with a mind clear of worries. Suri's magic was partially fueled by her own emotions, after all.
Eventually, Suri ended up creating an icy crystal with some properties that allowed it to have energy stored inside. From now on, Suri was going to carry this crystal everywhere she went. Whenever Suri gained power through training, she'd store some inside the crystal, and slowly absorb it back as she got better at controlling it. Also, she could use the stored power if the situation called for it.
The crystal was kind of important to her, and Suri was worried of forgeting it, or dropping it. So, the Majin pushed the crystal into her chest, and her gummy body absorbed it up with a 'schlop-'! "There. Now I'll never lose it." Suri dubbed this crystal her 'Magic Core', because it ended up right where a human's heart would be.
