If people thought Van-80 was a downer a few months ago, then they must have thought he was a literal shell nowadays. Work and sleep were the only things he ever did. Despite Tianum and even Ima’s attempts to get the pretty bot on his feet, he only seemed interested in shuffling around Crop Co doing whatever work was needed of him. Finally, Ima put her foot down. She not only dragged him out of his office but even went as far as bringing him to the other side of the world. She had hoped the warmer weather would put a spring back in his step and a twinkle in his eye.
“My! This is nostalgic isn’t it Van-80?” the motherly android goaded from the stands of the tournament grounds. “It reminds me of the Tournament of Beauty.” She immediately winced as she remembered the double disaster that took place. With the no shows and the Crop Co attack, Van would have rather forget the whole affair. “W-well… I am sure you still see the beauty of fighting!”
Vanity only let out a small scoff. His whole Beauty schtick was falling apart at his feet. Even the word itself began to lose meaning. Ima tried desperately to keep that spark alive, lest his old programming return. If nothing else she was determined to get him active outside of Crop Co at least.
“Why don’t we sign up for a fight? They are holding open exhibitions! We can join the ki-user group. Come on. Let’s get that coolant flowing!” Still silent, the once beauty-obsessed android just shrugged. Ima supposed that was the closest she would get to an agreement. The two robots walked down into the fighters corner and found a manager. “Excuse me, sir. My friend and I would like to sing up for a match.”
“Uh sure thing young lady,” the manager was clearly surprised to see a fairly dainty looking young woman signing up to fight. “Can I get your name please?”
“Vani-” she stopped short as she felt a sharp tug on the back of her shirt. She rolled her eyes, turning to face her partner. “Fine. I’ll fight first. But you WILL go after do you hear me?” No answer. “Ima.”
“Alright, Ms. Ima. Right now your bracket is open so you’ll have to wait for someone else to sign up before you can fight. You’ll be in arena B. You can wait over by the benches if you’d like.”
“Thank you!” With that, she and Van made their way over to the benches and got comfortable. “It has been so long since I actually fought with my own body. This is very exciting! I do not think I have fought in earnest myself since I was just an AI in your head.” The memory actually brought a small almost unnoticeable smile to Van’s lips. Luckily Ima caught it. “There you go! See? This will be fun!”
