About one week had passed since stumbling upon the little group that seemed to visit the woods for their club activities. While leaving them alone would be the nice thing to do, Athel figured there could at least be some fun in messing around with them. Would the group end up buying the little story the Demon youngling had thought of, would they run away in fear, or would they just write it off and go about doing whatever it was they normally did? Though the Demon wasn’t sure of the answer themselves, it was certainly going to be an entertaining experience nonetheless. And so, as the time grew closer, so did the outlander.
Instead of floating high up in the sky, watching the group from above like a bird watching their prey, Athel opted to remain on the ground for one reason or another. The sun faded from view, the moon now high above the wooded area. At that point, the only thing that offered any sort of light on the treeless area of the woods was said moon. No more than fifteen minutes had passed from the point where the Demon had gotten comfortable, the same group of young girls beginning to pour into the area slowly, talking among themselves happily. Even if they were supposed to be worshipers of some sort of entity, the group was comprised of girls that were no older than seventeen so that was to be expected. Gossip and the like was passed around frequently from that age group, Athel found.
Once it seemed as though they were all there, they’d each individually move to their point on the pentagram that was painted on the grass. In unison, each one of the candles were lit, offering some more light to the surrounding area. Athel folded their arms across their chest, grinning slightly as the show began. The leader slowly stepped into view, offering a quick wave to the group of girls as they made their way into the center of the pentagram. Once settled into place, they cleared their throat and began to speak.
“Good evening, ladies. Glad to see you could make it!” She said, followed by a similar greeting being returned by the others. “Today marks the second year the Occult Club has been meeting! While that likely doesn’t mean much to you all, I’ll be the first to admit that I never expected this group to be around so long.” A slight pause was taken, the group chuckling quietly. “We’ve lost members along the way, but gained new ones in time. Hopefully even after we all graduate, this club will continue to be passed down through the years. I’m sure that’s what THEY want, after all.- But enough with the small talk. Let’s begin, shall we?”
With that, the leader stepped out of the center and returned to their previous position. One after the other, they lowered their heads slightly and closed their eyes. Though the words themselves were different, the chanting started up again before long. Athel sadly didn’t understand a single bit of what they were mumbling, assuming it was just a bunch of gibberish. But that didn’t matter very much. After all, the Demon was busy preparing for their big entrance. They brought their hood up once again, only their mouth and nose visible. Arms were shaken about lightly to get the blood flowing and whatever else as the chanting continued on for some time. Eventually the words the group were mumbling came to a halt, the girls raising their heads up slowly with smiles on their faces, finishing up the little chanting they had been doing. Showtime.
Seemingly nothing more than a shadow quickly rushed towards the center of the pentagram before the leader could take their position once again, the speed at which it traveled shaking about the flame from the candles, almost putting it out completely. Darkness exploded across the ground as Athel took center stage, their usual grin present on their face. The Demon’s arms quickly shot up into the air, before they took in a deep breath. The group of girls watched, bewildered at what was taking place. No words left the grey skinned invader for a time, as they simply waited to see if any of them would quit standing around and react in some way. Just as one of the girls opened their mouth, Athel quickly moved their own to stop them. “Ahhh!~ I’ve finally escaped from that wretched prison and can move freely within the mortal realm once again!” They started, arms slowly lowering to their side. “And I assume you’re the ones who brought me here, yes? Which one of you leads this group?”
The group continued to stare in silence for a moment, before quickly moving up close to one another. They spoke among themselves for a moment or two, continuing to glance to and from the Demon. One of them cleared their throats, before taking a step or two away from the group, eyes focused on Athel who continued to grin and watch. “.. I-I’m the Occult Club’s President, Mavis.” They started nervously, eyes focused on the cloaked outlander. “W-Welcome to Earth and congratulations on finally being freed! We’ve worked tirelessly day in and day out to try and summon one of your kind to Earth in hopes of helping you rule what totally belongs to you!- You, uh.. are one of the Old Ones, correct?”
“An Old O- I mean.. Yes! I am indeed, and am here to set up base on this planet of yours. With you all helping me, soon enough the entire universe will be under my leadership. And anyone who stands in my way will be devoured!” Athel said, though none of that was entirely true- Except for the base part, maybe. But even then, this was more of a temporary home than anything else. “Tell me, Mavis, what are you hoping to achieve by assisting me? Is it wealth? Power? Knowledge?”
“We just.. want to be spared when you get restless and begin devouring worlds! Money and power are nice, but none of that stuff will do us any good if we can’t live to actually do anything with it. Please, you can make us your slaves or whatever, just spare us, Great One!” All of the girls bowed their heads some, the Demon’s smirk growing a tad bit larger at the display. This was indeed pretty entertaining. They hadn’t been particularly interested in anything fancy either, which was certainly nice. Just letting these girls work under Athel was all they wanted. A nod was given to the group.
“Very well- As a way to show my gratitude for freeing me and allowing me to walk amongst the mortals once again, I, Athel Calarook, shall spare the Occult Club when the, er.. devouring commences!- I will not take you as slaves, but instead as followers. Continue to assist me with tasks and perhaps my sorcery might convert you into one of my kind, children.” The Demon spoke. Of course, much of what was said was made up on the spot. They had no interest in killing children, especially if they were so willing to help with whatever Athel wanted. “First things first, where does your group usually convene? You don’t meet out in the middle of the woods all the time, do you?”
“Ah.. we normally come together in one of the classrooms at our high school, Great One- We tend to meet up at least a few times a week, then come out here once or twice a month. If you’d like, I can lead you there now!” Mavis spoke, the girls nodding some. While Mavis kept attention on Athel, the others started to run around and put out the candles. No words left the Demon, just giving their leader a slight nod. And with that, the group was off to wherever this place was.
