Lao was starting to get a little worn down by all the weird shit that had been happening to him lately. He just kept meeting ridiculously strong people, seemingly at complete random. He'd just be training in the woods, or trying to get a bite to eat, and here comes some unimaginably powerful otherworldly being or bloodthirsty alien, looking for a scuffle. It's not like Lao wasn't up to the challenge, he had resolved to get stronger by fighting people stronger than himself, after all. A steady supply of people stronger than him was appreciated, but it was getting to be every other day at this point. Lao wondered if fate just had it out for him, or something. He pondered these thoughts while attempting to meditate in his usual way, crouched upon the very top of a pine tree, held aloft by the thin top branches held tightly between his toes. His hands were pressed together in front of his face in a prayer pose, whilst on top of his head Lao balanced a massive tub full of water. This tub sloshed alarmingly every time an errant shiver unsettled its delicate balance, and the motion of this huge volume of water shifting around its container only made it more difficult to keep still. This kind of training was becoming routine for Lao, maintaining the delicate balance between his grip on the fragile upper branches of the tree and the oppressive weight atop his head did wonders for his focus. Still, wasn't meditation supposed to be some kind of altered state where you don't think so much? He had never been good at it, to be frank. Every time he attempted it Lao ended up either falling asleep or getting lost in his own thoughts.
"Oh well, might as well keep trying. Nobody said it would be easy." he muttered, doing his best to keep his balance even as the mere vibrations of his voice threatened to topple him over and down to the bottom of the tree. Still, he couldn't help but think about his recent encounters. Some of them had been more exciting than others. Lao's pitched sparring match against the indomitable alien Polarus had been particularly educational, Lao had gotten some great ideas for new techniques from that one... It seemed that opponents closer to Lao's own level were more beneficial to his training. That made sense, after all it's hard to learn anything if you get knocked out after the first blow. I wonder when I'll meet him again? Lao thought to himself. Or maybe I'll meet somebody new next?
