Hazel, due to her upbringing, was trained in both the art of swords and of fighting with Ki and punches. That isn't to say she was necessarily very good at either of those things, but she was... capable. Now that she was on Earth, a creeping question had pooped up in her mind, that being of magic. Konats and its' people were partially known for the mystic arts and being able to manipulate it, despite swordmasters often far outclassing and overtaking adept wizards and sorcerers. Tales and legends were still spun of the practice, and whispers were in great number that some Konatsians were even able to unlock an immense amount of power via rigorous training. It was unfortunate that Earth itself was barren in terms of knowledge or mentors in the art, leaving her with the option of traveling off-world or trying to find something suitable on the planet to train herself with. Hazel had picked up rumors of a hellish portal to the Demon Realm somewhere in the Fortuneteller's Desert, rather similar to the entrance in the Temple of Mist on Konats.
If she could perhaps observe the gateway and glean knowledge from it, it'd be a place to start. Finding an active mage willing to train a random girl would be a folly task, a waste of time and nothing more. Trying to learn three different complex things at the same time couldn't be that hard, could it? After all, she was... alright with a sword and middling with unarmed. She was slowly improving by the day!* (*as long as she remembered to get a good, rigorous practice session in) What was another thing slapped on top of it? Even the really really hot sand and sun were nothing to her, having lived twenty years on a planet with year-round desert-ness to it. If anything, Konats' sun was way more intense than the cheery yellow one that Earth basked it. Hazel even adorned her armor for the occasion, knowing that the portal wasn't actually used all that often, but wanting an excuse to go and stretch her limbs in old, comfortable clothes. Well, as comfortable as her outfit could be. Unsurprisingly, even the most magically deaf person would be hard-pressed to miss the radiating waves of energy coming from the gate, Hazel approaching with slight caution as she observed it.

PL: 64,00
It was another sunny day here on Earth, and the planet’s resident knowledge hoarder was out and about once again. The thought of creating a scheme or some sort was always present, but Athel truly didn’t feel like starting something themselves right now. After all, they didn’t always need to trick people in order to get pick their brains for whatever information they had. But the question was, where would a good spot to find somebody be? Sure, wandering around one of the various cities was always an option, but most people that lingered around those places were either too busy or too boring. A light hum left the Demon as they floated high up in the sky, unmoving for quite some time.
Slowly, the outlander began to spin round and round, humming in thought all the while. Deciding on one place in particular was too difficult, so they were going to opt to let fate choose their path for them. “Ufufufu. Here we go again!” They said to themselves, the speed at which they were spinning slowly starting to increase. A total of five more rotations were done before it was time for the Demon to set off. With speed that was undoubtedly untraceable by any normal person, Athel launched themselves straight in their random direction. They whizzed across the Earth with seemingly no intent of slowing down. It wasn’t long before the not-so-young Demon was booming across the western desert. That was an odd choice for fate to pick, but it’s not like Athel had any way of complaining at this point!
Athel collided with into the endless sea of sand, bouncing and rolling about like some sort of ragdoll. After a good three minutes of rolling about, they eventually skidded to a halt about seventy feet away from a young female Konatsian. As one could probably expect from somebody that didn’t have any way of sensing lifeforms, the outlander was rather oblivious to said alien that was so close- not right away at least. They were laying face first in the sand for the time being, a good portion of their body covered in the sand that they rested in. At first glance, not a single thing about the individual could really be noticed- save for their black hair and maybe some of their hood.
But, nothing lasted forever. It wasn't long before the Demon had hopped up to their feet and began shaking the sand off. Pitch black eyes scanned around the sea of sand and quickly caught sight of Hazel standing before a very familiar gate. Absolutely no time was wasted from there, Athel seemingly fading from sight and reappearing behind the unfamiliar individual, even if they opted to investiagte the crash site. Both of their hands would move to land on the Konatsian's shoulders, grinning all the while.
"HELLO, STRANGER!! FOR WHAT REASON ARE YOU LOITERING AROUND THE GATE TO THE DEMON REALM!?" Athel shouted. "ARE YOU ATTEMPTING TO ENTER? OR ARE YOU JUST LOST!?"

Hazel was deep in the process of squinting and murmuring to herself while looking at the magic gate to initially be surprised. Even as Athel's hands landed upon her and shouted shortly after, all she did was respond with a 'shhh' and a 'one moment'. True to her word, seconds later, the hybrid jumped a bit and turned around as if realizing someone else was actually here. "Oh! Hiya there. When'd you get here?" Gesturing vaguely to the portal now behind her, Hazel harrumphed. "I'm trying to research the magic behind this gate in hopes that I... dunno. I'll learn something about magic I guess? It sounded useful based on all the stories I've heard about it." With a garish flair, Hazel spun back around and shook her fist at the offending object.
"Yet so far it's proved useless! I've gotten nothing out of my five minutes of observation! Truly a shame." Turning back to the demon, Hazel stuck her hand out. "My name is Hazel! Travelling warrior and soon to be mage! Probably? I just wanna use it to bolster what I already do. Anyway, what are you doing all the way out here? You looking for the Demon Realm gate too? Are you a DEMON? Not that I care, but I haven't actually met one before despite their being a literal portal to the dimension on Konats as well."

If there was one thing that the Demon didn’t appreciate, it was being ignored. While the Konatsian did acknowledge them as they shouted, all they responded with was telling Athel to be quiet. If they wanted to be told to be quiet and continually get written off by strangers, then they would’ve just stayed in the Demon Realm. But, just as the outlander was nearing the point where they almost opted to chuck the alien across the desert, they were finally acknowledged. Hazel was safe from getting tossed around for now. As the portal was gestured to, the Demon arched a brow. They were indeed familiar with said portal, seeing as it was one of the few ways to get back home. Athel floated back a bit, letting Hazel finish speaking before responding to any of the questions presented to them. And when the odd Konatsian was indeed finished with speaking, it seemed, nothing more than a slight hum was given in response at first.
“Yes, magic can indeed be quite useful.” They said with a slight nod. “Though I do not use it all too often myself, there are quite a number of individuals who seem to take advantage of it quite often.. The Majin, for instance, use it to create sweets and other edibles out of preexisting objects.” Pitch black eyes shift towards the portal that led to the Demon Realm, grinning somewhat. “If you do wish to learn more, it would be best to actually venture through the gate, yes?- Ah, but you would need one of these!” One of their grey hands slip into a sleeve, seemingly rummaging around for but a moment before pulling out a small, unlit lamp. “These lamps are somewhat costly- but! It is a small price to pay to be able to move between realms, I suppose.”
The lamp was stored away afterwards, only now reaching out to give Hazel’s hand an extremely brief shake if it was even still out by this point. “I am Athel- And yes, you would be correct in assuming that I am a Demon.” While it wasn’t all too common that the outlander just went ahead and said that outright, the Konatsian had managed to pick up on what they were rather quickly, so there was no real reason to hide it or anything of the sort. “This was not a destination I had chosen specifically, rather it was one that fate had chosen for me. I suppose us meeting now, at this very moment was planned by some higher being.”
A few moments were spent examining the offworlder from head to toe, Athel humming in thought as they did so. “Pardon me for asking, but what exactly are you doing all the way on Earth, my Konatsian friend? If you wished to learn more about magic, I would assume that Konats would be a fairly decent place to learn.- Or did you come here simply because you enjoy traveling?”

"I'm not sure candy-shifting would be a good pathway for what I'm trying to eventually do..." The words followed up with a 'hmm' as Hazel rubbed her chin in thought. "Heck no! Actually going through the gate into that place would be horrible and probably dangerous." Blinking, she realized that Athel was probably from the Demon Realm, being a Demon and all. "Er no offense or anything, but they got like a whole different culture down there and a gal like me would stick out like a bent nail in a thatch hut." Apparently, you even needed some sorta lamp to even go in. "Why do you need a lamp of all things? Did they design the gate in mind with magic lamps or did they come after and just happened to be in lamp form?"
Apparently, the Demon hadn't even come out here on purpose. Something about fate leading them here. "Did you spin around a lot to get dizzy and walked in a random direction or did you just blindly tap a spot on like a GPS to get somewhere randomly?" The reasons for location were apparently a popular question, Athel asking something similar about why a Konatsian was on Earth searching for magic. "You'd THINK that Konats would be a good place, but the thing is they have a ton of magic users but no teachers. Most of the time you have to be born into it or have money to get education from them, and I had neither bloodline nor wealth to my name." Shrugging, she turned back to the gate to stare a bit more. "Not that I don't like Earth for how it is, but it also provides a place to actually try and learn magic without being barred off by requirements like that."

Athel shrugged their shoulders a tad. “Yes, using magic to specifically create candy is rather specific- and I believe that the Majin folk would be the only ones to actually get any use out of such an ability.” Then again, being an individual that didn’t use a whole lot of magic themselves, did they really have any right to call anyone’s preference useless? Probably not, but it didn’t matter that much. In regards to the mention of the Demon Realm, a slight chuckle left the grey skinned individual. “Ufufufu! No need to worry, it would take far more than that to offend me, child. You are far from wrong, however. That place can be pretty dangerous when compared to here- especially if you are an outlander. If you are strong enough, on the other hand, I doubt anyone would mess with you.” Athel nods their head just a tad. “As for the lamp.. well, when lit it gives off enough light and mystical demonic energies to help guide you to our Realm- and back, if you wish. Surely whoever created these gates intended on using things that are commonly found in the Demon Realm as a means of lighting the way.”
“Well, when a being such as myself gets bored, we do indeed just spin around and launch ourselves in some random direction. I find it to be a great way to meet new people and see new things- though, I think.. I might be the only one who actually enjoys doing it.” The Demon said, bringing a hand up to lightly rub at their chin. “- But, yes. Earth is a very helpful place. If what you say about Konats is true, then I suppose I can empathize with you a tad bit. Most of the individuals back home will flat out ignore you unless you are strong enough. Only those lucky enough will actually be able to receive any sort of guidance.” Slowly, Athel’s eyes shifted back onto the gate as well, humming some. While they wanted to go back and visit at some point, right now it was probably best if they avoided the Demon Realm. Once they were stronger it was certainly going to be something they wanted to do, though. “In any case, my friend, you can believe me when I say that you are not going to learn much from staring at the portal- actually, you probably wont learn anything at all!” The outlander said, nodding once. “I could perhaps attempt teaching you something, but.. perhaps it would be best if you tried searching elsewhere on Earth at some point. "

"Lighting the way? Is it that dark in there, or was that a figure of speech?" Hazel squinted at the Demon warily. At least they didn't get insulted over Hazel slightly badmouthing the Demon Realm, even going so far as to confirm her assumptions that it was a volatile place. "I mean, I'd like to think I'm pretty strong-" (A well placed flex of her noodle arm problem didn't help prove that) "-Yet I aren't like, super strong compared to some people. Heck, how strong even are you? I have absolutely no way of telling." She had no problem with admitting that flaw out in the open. A scouter purchase could remedy it, but the hybrid was too stubborn to rely on technology for what seemed like such a simple task.
"Wait, so, you literally spun around and like, launched yourself in a random direction?" A hint of disbelief coated her voice, that Athel seemingly had no reason to lie about how they got here. Ending up next to the Demon Realm gate was a one in a billion chance, but that didn't mean it was a zero percent chance. That was forgotten, though, as Athel said something truly crushing. "Are you like, surely sure? I mean I thought that careful observation would at least give me some sort of clue! Some people just wave their hands around like this!" Hazel paused to demonstrate, wiggling her arms back and forth. "And then boom! Magic pops out! I know some species are more inclined than others for it, but I'm like half-Konatsian. That should count for something, shouldn't it?"
Shaking her head in defeat, Hazel sat with her legs crossed upon the sand. "I've tried looking! Earth just seems to be not really full of mages or anything, and the ones I do find practice stuff so specific there's no way it could help with my end goal." Looking up to Athel, a lightbulb almost literally materialized over her head as an idea popped up. "If YOU know magic, though, maybe you could show me something?"

“No, I mean you literally need the lamp to light the way. Not only is it required to open the gate to the Demon Realm, but without the lamp you would have a hard time finding your way through, I assume.” Athel says, nodding their head a couple of times. Getting through the gates was somewhat of a pain, but that was really the only way to get in and out of the realm unless you were some stinky Shinjin that could poof around the place. “I cannot sense the energies of others, but.. if you are doubting your own strength, then it probably would not be a great idea to venture through there yet. In the end, it is up to you, though. From what I recall, the last individual I came across with a scouter said my power level was around Sixty-Four Thousand. Not super high, but fairly high up there compared to most, yes.”
In response to the fact that they just launched themselves in a random direction, Athel just nodded their head. It wasn’t very effective if they needed to get somewhere specific, but for going to random spots, it always ended up with them landing at least somewhere slightly neat. A slight hum left the Demon for a time after that before they spoke up again. “As far as I am aware, nothing will be gained from staring at this thing. I have not done so myself, so I cannot say for sure, though.” They shrug, not quite sure of what to make from the Konatsian’s display. “.. if you are at least somewhat magically inclined, then perhaps you could figure something out and prove me wrong. I still think there are better avenues you could take to learn these things, though.”
“I use magic somewhat in a few of my combat techniques, and I have.. one non-combat thing I can do with magic. Most of which likely wouldn’t be of any use to you.” Athel folds their arms across their chest, humming some in thought. “If these Earthlings cannot be of any help to you, then I suppose I could try, if you really want.” The Demon’s eyes began to wander around the sea of sand for a few seconds, seemingly searching for something. “But! First we need to see if we can find you a stick or something of that sort. Having a magic wand or staff always helps.”

"I'm RELATIVELY strong! Like, at least in the top twenty of Konatsians! ...Probably not Saiyans though. Most of them are super tough warriors, but I'm still strong enough to hold my own. I could probably like, uhh... level a skyscraper or something if I tried hard enough?" Sixty thousand was pretty darn tough, though, at least triple her current strength and that was without knowing how powerful the Demon's transformations could be. "You're pretty strong yourself! Do you train or is it all-natural?" It was hard to tell sometimes. Bulging muscles were a good but unreliable indicator, proven by both Hazel's noodly limbs and the Demon's lithe body frame entirely. Though that could also be due to them being magic reliant as well? Most mages weren't all that buff and instead relied on their supernatural powers to artificially protect them with like shields and stuff.
"Gah! Fine! I give up my staring contest." She said sadly. At least Athel starting to explain their own prowess in the art got her hopes up that they might accept her plea for training. "It doesn't even have to be specific techniques, or if they are, I just need to know how they... work. Get an idea for the basics of what makes magic magical so I can maybe reverse engineer it in my brain and start testing it out for myself." And at Athel's acceptance and instruction, Hazel stood for a moment to grant them a bow. "My gratitude! I shall search for an implement straight away! ...Though we are in the middle of a rather large desert, I don't know how likely we are to find sticks or something of similar make. Even scattered bushes like on Konats seem to be absent on Earth's terrain..."
Sighing, Hazel accepted her fate and powered up, a light silver aura coating the girl. "I'll be right back!" Shooting off into the distance, she returned a minute or two later with a stick roughly the length of her forearm and naturally tapered down to a point. "Will this wand-like stick thing do for practice?"

“In the top twenty? Ufufu, are you sure about that?” They questioned. It wasn’t really that they were doubting the Konatsian’s strength, but it was more so that the Demon figured that was a relatively generous number for somebody that couldn’t figure out others’ power levels. “Either way, leveling things is pretty easy. If you really, REALLY put your mind into it you could likely wipe an entire city off the map. Saiyans are extremely tough, but it seems you are already well aware of that. They are a warrior race and whatnot, yes.” A slight hum left the Demon when asked about training. “I tend not to train very often, as I find the repetitive motions required for the usual activities to be very.. repetitive. Every so often I find something to help raise my power a bit, though. Us Demons tend to be fairly strong without a whole lot of training, anyhow.”
While they still found it somewhat surprising that anyone thought that staring at the gate to the Demon Realm would help with learning magic, Athel opted to avoid saying anything about it. Hazel seemed to give up on the idea anyway, which was nice. “Magic is somewhat hard to explain, but.. I suppose I can try my best to help out. This will be my good deed for the year, I suppose.” Athel said, running a few ideas through their mind. Magic was just something that came naturally to Demon’s, so trying to explain was going to be extremely difficult- but if all else failed, they could just try messing with the Konatisan woman. That should’ve at least helped pass the time if nothing else. “Yes, yes. No need to thank me until you actually manage to learn something from the whole ordeal. I am sure you will manage to find something to use. As for myself, I will be right here, waiting for you to return.”
Athel decided to take a seat on the sand, trying to at least be somewhat comfortable as they waited for the pointy-eared individual to return. They hummed a tune, and by the time they got bored, Hazel was within sight and had returned with their stick! A nod or two was given in response, inspecting said wand-like stick. “I suppose that will work, yes. Every great mage has a wand or something of the sort.” Probably wasn’t true, but the Demon didn’t care. “Now! First attempt, uh.. try closing your eyes and waving your wand around in a cool shape away from myself and the portal. When you’re waving it around, trying envisioning whatever it is you want to do in your mind and pairing a set of words with it. For instance, you could try creating a ball of fire by imagining something very hot and saying the first thing that comes to mind. That might work.” Shrug.

"Not really!" She chirped back. "However, I know that I'm relatively strong compared to a lot of people and that most Konatsians are only a bit above regular humans. Henceforth, I make the claim that I am at least number twenty of the strongest people in our species. I could be wrong, yeah, but I'm probably not, so..." It might have something to do with her hybrid genes, but Hazel wouldn't let that devalue her own hard work and effort put in. "Some people say it's cause' I'm half-Saiyan and everything, but my mom was pretty darn strong too back when I lived on Konats and she was a full-blown Konatsian." It was a bit odd how Athel claimed they didn't practice that much, yet was still somehow super powerful. They pinned it partly on their Demonic heritage, though as before Hazel didn't put much stock in bloodline over effort when it came to this sort of stuff.
Then came the fetching of a stick, one that was perfect in shape and length. "I dunno about that, a few Konatsian wizards just kind of waved their hands around all willy nilly sometimes. ...And what about you? Do you have like a wand or something for your magic?" Nevertheless, she listened closely to the Demon's instructions, hopeful that the advice would turn out to be helpful. She didn't really want to doubt her temporary mentor, but the initial round of instructions seemed almost... juvenile? "Are you completely sure?" Hazel questioned hesitantly. "Nothing else to do first? Just... wave it around and try to think of stuff happening?" Despite her words, the Konatsian prepared to try anyway, screwing her eyes closed and holding the stick at arm's length. A minute or two would pass of Hazel making odd gestures, deathly quiet and in deep concentration.

A light hum left the Demon for some time. The Humans and other Earthlings were indeed pretty weak, but Athel wasn’t so sure how tough the people of Konats were. This was actually their first time coming into contact with one, so maybe the Konatsians really were comparable to Earth’s inhabitants. “I see. Then perhaps you might actually be within the top twenty. Either way, as I am sure you are well aware, strength is not the only thing that matters. Without proper planning and a good strategy, if you were to get into a fight you would more than likely end up losing.” A slight shrug followed the outlander’s words. “The fact that you are part Saiyan might play a small role in your overall strength, but you not trained at all, you would probably be the same as any other Konatsian. Either way, there's no real need to be worrying about that at the moment.”
“People who are more familiar with magic can do things without a wand, staff or whatever else a person might choose to use.” That sounded right in the Demon’s head. Aside from other Demons though, Athel really hadn’t encountered anyone else that could use magic- save for a few Majin. For the most part, the outlander was just making up information as they went along. “Since magic comes naturally to my kind, using magic for whatever I want feels about as simple as throwing a punch. Not too much effort needs to be put into it unless I intend on doing something big. One of my tricks require me to do nothing more than place my hand on somebody or something and concentrate.” A slight shrug was given afterwards.
Athel watched as Hazel began to try and do as told, even though they had their doubts. The Demon hummed in thought for a few moments, trying to think on what else might’ve helped out here. “Truth be told, I am not entirely sure what else could help. As I said, magic comes naturally to my kind. I read a story once where the characters did magic that way- though it does not seem to be helping much.” A hand came up, Athel lightly tapping their chin. If they had been asked to learn how to fight, that would’ve been one thing, but teaching magic was proving to be difficult. “If you are still having trouble coming up with things, maybe drawing symbols in the sand and focusing your magical energies into them could show some results?”

"Well I'm not saying I don't plan on using my noggin in a fight or anything, that's why I'm training with a weapon and not just fits, but from what I've seen... most of the time pure strength will trump clever strategies simply because people tend to have REALLY weird variable levels of strength." Athel made a reasonable point that training still helped lead to her to where she was, a fact that Hazel couldn't deny. "Yeah, I guess. It just seems that sometimes people win the genetic lottery and instantly get to become titans and some people have to work endlessly for their goals... but I'm somewhere in-between." She wasn't arrogant enough to think she was gifted, nor blind enough to think she had been dealt a poor hand. Hazel had a decent start in terms of warrior life, especially with her two parents being the way they were.
Though a bit ways into the test and nothing seemed to be coming from it... not now or anytime in the foreseeable future. Pocketing the stick, she sighed and turned to her temporary mentor. Their suggestion of drawing things in the sand was... oddly specific. "That might just kind of be skipping a step, wouldn't it?" At least that's how she thought runes work. "You're talking about runes, right? We had a few ancient rune mystics on Konats, but I had assumed you'd need to know basic magic before being able to create empowered symbols out of it." Maybe they didn't. And if they didn't, that'd mean she had been going about the whole process of trying to learn runes the entirely wrong way. Pinching her nose, Hazel withdrew her stick once more. "I guess it can't hurt to give it a try, at least." Kneeling, she attempted to recall some symbols from her memory to crudely copy, being as gentle and precise as one can with a stick in gravely sand.
"This one is supposed a beginner's charm, and even today the few that have magic left have a faint glow and soft chiming noise when you are near them. Pretty cool tourist attraction, but even that might prove hard for me to even think about doing." Finishing the symbol with a flourish, and overcoming her oncoming embarrassment, Hazel closed her eyes once more, picturing the exact rune she remembered from home and attempting to make the drawing in the sand before her copy it. It felt dumb and probably looked dumb, but when Athel said 'channel your energy' what else could the Kontsian try and do besides blast it with Ki? Opening her eyes, Hazel stood up. "Well, I'm done. I don't think anything really happened." She turned around once more, giving a longing stare at the portal not too far from them. "If only..." Unknown to Hazel, Athel was standing in a place where they might be able to pick up a distinct tinge of cyan floating through the sands below... coming off in dim wisps and trails, a near deathly quiet 'ting' accompanying it.

A low hum left the Demon for quite some time, Athel seemingly in thought. They felt as though somebody had said something somewhat similar to them before, but oh well. Everyone was entitled to their own way of thinking. “Yes, you are correct, I suppose. If one is strong enough, then strategy wont work all the time. I fail to see why anyone would engage in conflict with somebody far weaker than themselves, though. At that point, fighting would hardly be any fun at all.” They said with a slight nod. “Solely going after people weaker than one’s self would just make the stronger individual seem rather pathetic, I think. In any case, strategy is very important in combat when you and your opponent are around similar strength, is moreso what I meant.” A shrug was given to the Konatsian hybrid, pitch black, unblinking eyes glued to them. “We Demons tend to be rather strong from the get-go, but even the fresher ones have to work hard to surpass the stronger of the bunch, so I suppose I can empathize with the majority of the people who are not born strong. Either way, even if you are in between, refrain from slacking on your training. Otherwise, the twenty-first strongest individual on Konats will knock you out of the top twenty.”
“Runes, yes. If you have a better idea, then it would be pointless for me to be wasting my time helping you.” The Demon crossed their arms over their chest. They had seen a few magic practitioners use them before, but hadn’t bothered trying to use them, really. Mainly, the Occult Club Athel tended to hang around tended to draw them all over the place- though, as far as the outlander knew, none of those would be witches actually knew how to use magic in any capacity. A slight nod followed, watching quietly as Hazel decided to give in and start drawing some unfamiliar symbols into the sand below.
“A beginner’s charm, huh? Interesting.” Athel murmured, keeping their eyes on the supposed charm for a little while as it was finished up. “Hopefully Lady Luck will smile down upon you this time. Because.. if you fail this time, then it will likely take some time before I manage to think of anything else that would be worth a shot.” They grew quiet after that bit, letting Hazel focus on trying to do some sort of magic. They spent a while doing their thing, and in the end seemed to run out of ideas and seemingly decided to give up on the runes. A hum left Athel for a moment or two, eyes shifting around to see if anything actually managed to happen. It didn’t take too long for the Demon to spot the sight of cyan below, a brow being arched in response. Though faint, the dinging accompanying the out of place coloring was heard. “Ah, you failed, huh?” They asked, a finger extending out towards the odd coloring amongst the sand. “Then what is that, child?”
