The Basics
Name: Clov
Species: Maykan (Alien B )
Gender: Chaos (They/Them)
Age: 18
Appearance
Clov spends most of their time transformed into their enhanced Makyan state. In this form, they’re a bit over six feet tall, with a toned muscular build. In their true form, which they take on only when necessary, they’re about half that height, with no visible muscle to speak of.
In either form, Clov has dark maroon skin, bright green eyes, and a smattering of green freckle-ish spots. Their dark hair is swept back and wild, their ears are long (with a notch in the left one), and their teeth are pointed. Their clothing is usually simple combinations of jumpsuits and armor in greys and blacks, with the jumpsuits often tearing a little from their size-changing transformations.
History
Clov was born 18 years ago, as the youngest child of a Makyan family. They lived with their parents and older brother, Saffron, on a backwater asteroid. The asteroid was inhabited by a smattering of various alien peoples, and though they had never lived anywhere else, Clov imagined it had to be the dullest, most boring place in the galaxy. The only remotely interesting feature of the place was its mine. Most everyone on the asteroid worked in the mines, toiling away every day to dredge up minerals. It was no different for Clov, and they began work in the mines as a young teen. Their small size had them assigned to the deepest, most cramped sections of the caves, where other people simply couldn’t fit. It was dangerous, miserable work, but it was all Clov knew. One day, when Clov was working in a particularly unstable section of the mine with their brother Saffron, there was a tunnel collapse. Massive boulders fell down towards both of them, and all Clov could do was hold their arms up and brace for their sad, short life. ...No end came, though. Instead, Saffron had miraculously saved them! The danger had awakened some sort of psionic powers within their brother, and he used them to stop the boulders in mid-air. Clov was amazed, but the amazement didn’t last for long. After that incident, Saffron locked himself away in his room. He stopped going to work in the mines, and gradually stopped leaving his room altogether, except occasionally to get food. Clov was worried at first, but as time went on, they began to feel resentment. Without Saffron working, Clov had to take on extra jobs in the mines to pick up the slack and provide for the family. Their parents weren’t elderly by any means, but a lifetime of hard work left them physically worn down, and timid besides. Clov didn’t have any powers like their brother, and they weren’t particularly strong or skilled. Yet, they were young and spry, and lacked any reasonable sense of self preservation, so they would throw themself headlong into the most well-paying -- and therefore most dangerous -- jobs on the asteroid. After two years of this, Clov was fed up.They were always told that life out in space, away from the asteroid, was dangerous and harsh, and their best bet was to just stay put. But staying put was making Clov miserable, and they just couldn’t take it anymore. One night, without telling anyone, they snuck out and stole a ship belonging to the ore-collectors, and flew away from home. Life alone was hard, like they’d been told, but there was something freeing about not worrying about paychecks and foremen and dusty, cramped caverns. This wasn’t easy, but it was better.A couple of months into their new life, Clov found themself on the Pirate Fortress Knutts. The colorful mess of people there didn’t pay any mind to one small, goblin-looking kid, but Clov still felt unsettled. They had never had any measure of ki-control, so this was a new sensation to them. It was as if something was calling to them, and they felt compelled to follow it. Sneaking through alleyways and air vents proved to be pretty similar to crawling through caverns, and soon Clov discovered the source of what they were feeling: a black-market auction house. Many different things were being sold, from weapons to (fake) dragon balls to information, but Clov knew what had called them here the moment they laid eyes on it. It was inconspicuous compared to everything around it, but to Clov it was a beacon. It was a simple piece of red stone, not even a shiny crystal or anything valuable looking, just a rock, and it was one of the cheapest things in the room. Barely realizing what they were doing, Clov approached the case the stone was being kept in. An alarm sounded when they touched the case, someone shouted, and then Clov blacked out. They would learn later that this red stone was actually a fragment of the Makyo Star, the long-destroyed homeworld of the Makyan people. When the rogue planet had been whole, she had imbued her people with demonic power whenever she was close. Some of that ability still resided in this little shard, and the moment Clov touched it, the normally weak little Makyan doubled in size, and their power level increased by many, many times. When they came to, everyone in the room was lying on the ground. Clov didn’t stick around to see if they’d killed everyone or not, they fled with their prized shard, all the way back to their ship and off the space station. They were confused and riding an adrenaline high, but one thing was clear as they flew off into the stars: after years of being nobody from nowhere, Clov finally had the chance to be somebody.
