Current PL: 101,000 In the East City down town area, Zriracha was once again keeping herself busy with the façade of being a land appraiser – having learned much about the occupation through her use of her cellular device. During her little run-in with the technological marvels of North City, she had to get it repaired but because the phone was made with magic she lacked the knowledge to repair it herself, the poor clerk that she’d bothered today had to deal with her non-stop questions about what made a phone do this and do that. So technologically inept was the Satyr Demon, that she had resorted to practically begging for a manual for her to pour over.
And so, sitting down at a table, her glamour abandoned in lieu of avoiding the questions of ‘prospective courtiers’. She found that there were benefits to not being as desirable when one looked inhuman. She could focus on staring at the phone in front of her with squinted eyes, wearing the glasses that came with her glamour as if it could actually help her to see the screen and read the words.
Which… was an E-mail. Never mind the story that was behind how she actually created such a thing. Beside her, she would take notes with a small quill and notepad – the era-centric difference between all four recording tools making for quite a surreal sight for anyone passing by… that didn’t just stare for being a Satyr.
Wandering the streets of East-City had become quite the occupation for Vangreth. While trying to learn about how people lived here, it seemed to be the most efficient way. He learned about money, television, parenting and all those little things that Muko always left very vague about the inter-person relations.
So there he was, walking down the busy streets of the major human settlement, wearing clothes that, while not really helping his foreign look, made it easier for him to walk into a store of café without causing some form of panic. He was wearing black shorts with lots of pockets and an unbuttoned white shirt.
As he was wandering around, a person caught his sense… well, first his ki-sensing located a powerful signature, and then he turned to see who it obviously was. While the look of that person seemed to have better adapted to Earth than himself, they were still coming out as other-worldly and easy so spot in a crowd.
At first, Vangreth did not really gave a second thought on it, but then, he saw an opportunity! That person was toying with those rectangles he had seen around a whole lot, and it even seemed as if they were struggling with it!
‘’ Perfect!’’ He said, recognizing a one in a million chance of getting to learn something today, he made his way to the person and greeted them politely with a slight nod.
‘’ Salutation, I couldn’t help but notice that you stood out in this place, and wondered if… uh…’’
It was pretty rare for Vangreth to be at a loss of words, but he had learned of something called ‘being awkward’ and he was trying, but failing spectacularly, at avoiding that.
‘’ if… by any chance, you were learning something new, as it seems, and could I tag along?’’
He finally managed to say, visibly unphased by his own awkwardness, still standing next to the demon’s table.
Last Edit: May 28, 2020 11:13:29 GMT -6 by Vangreth: Totally forgot Power level
Scratching her head with the back of the quill, Zriracha looked down upon the notepad with a grimace of confusion, wondering if she’d accidentally forgotten a bit of information. Did I write down that address correctly? Oh, I think I combined someone information! Hell’s below! She thought with visible frustration. When she felt the approach of someone and looked up, blinking suddenly as looking away from the table, phone and paper she’d stared at for hours had made it difficult to see moving things in the same way. “S-Salutations,” She greeted, offering a strained little smile. While hesitant, Zriracha could see that they were quite hopeful that they could share in a learning experience.
Uncertain what he meant at first, she glanced down at the phone and then gave an ‘OH’ in a gasp, before looking back up at him. “I-… I suppose I am. Human technology – or, really Mortals in general – have always been a bit if a challenge for me to grasp.” Seeing him still standing, she gestured with a hand to a chair, “I’d be happy to share in the experience if you don’t mind this Old Goat’s sluggishness,” She teased, “Take a seat beside me.”
Once they were seated, should they decide to do so, she brought the phone closer to between them, “While I’m sure some of these, Ah- ‘E-mails’ are sensitive, I don’t believe you have any interest in the appraisal of land, do you? I am… unable to save impertinent information or get back to it in a timely fashion, so I’m making note of it,” She gestured to the pad. “-In a physical capacity!" She grinned.
Looking back at her new guest, Zriracha realized she never gave her name. "My apologies! I am Zriracha of Chakkapak. Demon Realm. And you are?" Vangreth
The first thing that went in Vangreth’s mind was a tiny victory, as it seemed the person, he was addressing answered with the same greetings he did! That would mean he used the correct one; why is there more than one way to greet someone anyway? So confusing at times!
Then, with the mention of ‘mortals’ as an exterior trait from this person made the Muko-Jin really confused; he was aware that some races, even his own, could be seen as nearly immortal since they could live many human generation, but they were still mortal? Perhaps this person was some sort of Shinjin?
A grin appeared on Vangreth’s face when he took the offered seat next to the demon; looking down on the human device, he could see… well… frankly… way too many things at the same time.
‘’ Wow, I suppose you already have figured out much more than I have… there seems to be just so much information in such a tiny space. Back home, we had devices to communicate between households, but only using sounds…’’ He exclaimed, curiously trying to decipher the pattern of information on this simple e-mail application.
Hearing this person talk about ‘sensitive’ information resulted in a simple shrug from the man; he didn’t even really know what appraisal of land was anyway so he was far from being a threat here.
‘’ I do not, though I can totally see why you would write down what you see on those screens, I don’t suppose changing all this information can be done easily. ‘’ He said, almost under his breath, more like a question to himself than a real comment.
Upon hearing the demon introduce itself, Vangreth following in kind.
‘’ A pleasure to make acquaintance with you Zriracha, I am Vangreth of Muk…’’
Vangreth stopped there… did she… did she just say she was from the demon realm? Wait… were demon not supposed to be these monsters out to murder and torture humans? From the stories he heard back at the villages in the East? Why would one of those be just… casually try to function in human society?
‘’ Pardon my earing, but I think I misheard that you were from… the demon realm? Is that a strange name given to your home planet?’’ He said, visibly concerned, but not on the defensive just yet; after all, this person had been nothing but nice to him.

Zriracha shook her head, leaning back into her chair as she sighed, “No, but I am fully aware that there are very qualified mortals that have accomplished incredible feats of ingenuity upon such pieces.” As he introduced himself and where he came from, the Demon was suddenly all too aware that he was uncertain and hesitant, even pausing during his introduction out of some form of shock. Zriracha frowned softly, aware if a possible reason. His question moments later was the confirmation she needed, little more than tired of the same stereotype but grateful that he didn’t resort to violent first.
“I’m afraid you’re hearing is perfectly fine, Vangreth,” She started, reaching over to present a hand – palm up – before a small flourish of black flames would produce… a teacup filled with tea. She placed it down gently in front of him, a gesture of peace between them. “I am a Demon… from the Demon Realm,” She clarified further with a nervous smile. “Does this bother you? I assure you that, while the rumors are true for some of my people – they are not accountable absolutes.”
She produced her own teacup and tea, sipping at it for a moment before blanching, “Ugh, I forgot to heat it. My apologies,” She reached over and snapped her fingers, heating his tea to manageable levels before doing the same to her own. “I’m afraid I have no way to offer you any proof of my statement besides my good will.” Vangreth
The straight-forwardness of the demon mixed with the experience Vangreth already had with strange races and their stereotypes quickly led the Muko-Jin to the same conclusion he had managed to get from so many others before… Saiyans, Arcosians, Majins… even himself due to his appearance, all of them seemed to be feared by a vast majority of people although every single one of those Vangreth met were very nice people, most of the time aware of their reputation and they most dangerous-looking and evil person he had met didn’t even seem to have his species’s name recognized. There was certainly some sort of mystery about that.
Looking down at the cup of tea, now letting off an enjoyable aroma and some steam. Vangreth would grab is delicately, take a tiny sip of it before finally breaking silence.
‘’ Honestly, with how I look, I could hardly take judgement upon anything I come across. I am, however, still confused about all the rumors going around for so many species out there… it just seems like everyone is afraid of everyone else. ‘’
With those words, Vangreth would take a bigger sup of his tea, involuntarily lifting his little finger up whilst holding the cup in the air.
‘’ Then again, if you say the rumors are mostly true, then perhaps I just have some ungodly luck in my travels. ‘’ He took a pause, glanced at the surrounding mass of people just going along their day without a care in the world. ‘’ Then again, I did came across a Shinjin, those supposed to protect this universe, and he just enslaved my people for reasons I cannot even comprehend yet.’’
Vangreth then looked back down at the smartphone they were originally going to try to figure out together and see and add pop up.
‘’ Hey! It says here that you won a million zenis! You should totally claim your prize, you could buy so many things with that! ‘’
Vangreth’s voice seemed excited, kind of like a child seeing a big present wrapped up; after all, what was not to like about free money?
Zriracha arched a brow at Vangreth as he sipped at the tea, speaking aloud what she must have guessed were his inner thoughts to her. The interaction wasn’t quite surreal but it did give her pause as he mentioned a ShinJin, causing her to choke a little in her tea. “Here?” She choked, coughing a little and she tried to regain her composure. “ShinJin have actually step foot on Earth?” She continued with more clarity. While she did not have any personal issue with any said beings of Otherworld, the mythos of Demons versus the Shin were legendary and more than worth keep a very keen and cautious eye on them.
She was about to pry further when Vangrath had noticed her sudden fortune and she gasped, looking at the colorful signage that flashed upon her screen. She looked up at him, shocked before looking back at the phone, “That’s quite lucky! I’ve never really… won anything, but I don’t really have any need for currency, either. But,” She smiled shrugging, “Perhaps this is a sign!”
She pressed into it, watching as the screen suddenly white, then changed to another screen, and then after an unusual amount of waiting, the phone shut off. She stared at it, smile dropped like a ton of stone, before she cocked her head to the side. “Wh-” She turned the phone this way and that, pressing buttons. Then, when it appeared the phone wasn’t responsible, she released a sigh – pouting. A sign, indeed. Oh, so much for that opportunity. Perhaps I should abandon this futile cover. It's not like it's ever assisted me before.
“Well…” She chuckled softly, holding up her notepad, “At least I don’t have to worry about the notes, or… what I managed to get, anyway.” She let the phone drop to the table with a clatter, “I seem to find my schedule very free all of a sudden," She crossed her arms, curious, "Can you tell me more about the ShinJin that enslaved your people... if it's not too painful to ask about?" Vangreth
The reaction Zriracha gave when he mentioned the Shinjin was surprising to say the least; the Mukojin had no idea these were supposed to be rare, although it made sense since he had indeed not seen any on Earth, at least, that he knew of. The one he knew was back home, and still enslaving his kin… at least he hoped that some of those who were sent away like him found the strength to break free like he did… perhaps the old man who helped him did help others too? This thought sent Vangreth a little far into his mind, questioning his future.
The one thing that snapped him back to reality was the sound of the cellphone hitting the table; it seemed like it wasn’t working anymore and the demon’s reaction to it confirmed that real quick. But then, it seemed like she was actually interested in hearing about Vangreth’s story, which in itself was pretty news to him, nobody had really asked him about it, not that directly at least.
‘’ Oh uh…’’
He attempted to hide the fact he didn’t know how to react by sipping some of his tea, but it would be pretty obvious that he wasn’t expecting a question on that.
‘’ I can… I mean, there is nothing to be harmed about it. I guess to start, I will tell you about Muko, the planet were I’m from.’’
As he spoke, it seemed to bring a wave of nostalgia to him, even though life back home wasn’t great, it still how he lived for… two hundred and six years.
‘’ Muko is a very small planet, and unlike Earth, it barely sustains life. Most of the planet is a wasteland, blasted by heat and dryness. There are about 2 to 3 settlements, much smaller than anything on Earth, about twenty people total. We all lived under the rule of a class of Mukojin that we called Rulers, or at least that’s what we thought, and that’s where the Shinjin comes into play…’’
Vangreth finished his tea and massaged the back of his neck.
‘’ I use to have some sort of collar, floating about my neck. This, was a device that allowed said Shinjin to remove whatever he wanted from my memory and supress my emotions. This is how he controls people back on Muko, he supresses any memory of him and uses the Rulers to simply have us to what he wants…’’

Zriracha gave a nod, keeping her attention on him as she sipped at her tea. One special aspect, a background fact if anything, was the magical nature of the tea that just… never seemed to run out. Useful for when you never wanted to conversations to end. Listening, the Demon found herself enraptured by the story and origin of his people – even if it did leave her a little disturbed that he was actually enslaved and controlled by the supposed paragons of the universe.
She bit her lip, a fang cutting into the pump skin enough to draw blood. Infuriating! As he finished, she felt as though there was more for him to say but held up a hand, “You need not continue, though I will not stop you… I’m sorry your people have gone through such a harrowing existence.” She cocked her head to the side, eyebrows furrowed in confused concern, “Did the ShinJin ever detail why they did that? Are your people still enslaved or have you revolted and liberated yourself? And this Shin, did they… have a name?”
She wouldn’t entertain thoughts of exactly any sort of misguided vengeance, but in her line of work-?
And there it was… the one thing that would follow Vangreth anywhere, even if he tried to convince himself that he was doing the right thing, the one and only right thing he had to do, he was not. He didn’t feel ready, he didn’t feel strong enough… and what could even tell him that he wouldn’t just get re-enslaved immediately… this possibility was terrifying to him, especially since getting his emotions re-supressed would mean also losing that free will he had gain these pasts few months… no… he wouldn’t let that happen… but he also had a moral obligation to free his people from this tyranny… but for now, talking about it could help…
‘’I … I don’t know…’’
And saying that, Vangreth noticed that his eyes were getting wet and his vision blurry… well… that was new.
‘’ I … I was sent to explore the world… find a new place to live, where we could expand to a bigger population… I found Earth and I have been here for the past months. I adapted to Earth, and I frankly think that my people could live happily here… but…’’
He paused. Was he ready to confess everything to just that stranger? Then again, she was the first stranger to actually ask… so perhaps that was it…
‘’ No, he never told us why he did that, why would he ever? Maybe one of the Rulers could get their collar removed, and then perhaps we’d get some answers for motives… My kin are still back there, on Muko, and I… ‘’
He swallowed both his anxiety and a large amount of pride.
‘’ For all I know, I’m the only one who broke free from his grip… If anyone is to save them, then that person is me… I just need to be ready, if I get stronger, than perhaps I’ll be stronger than him.’’
Having finally said it, Vangreth would take a deep breath and relax his shoulders a bit; he had not been able to talk about this ever, and simply laying down everything visibly seemed to have taken a weight off him.
She could tell that it hurt him to recall, the stuttering and anxiety plentiful even as she could taste the negativity rolling off of him in waves. Biting her tongue, she listened to every word. It was an exercise in restraint as he explained that his people were still likely prisoners upon their own world, fist tightened so harshly that she could feel her knuckles pop. When he appeared to finish, Zriracha didn’t hesitate to gently try and get his attention, “Hey,” She called. She shook her head, eyebrow curled upward, “It’s not our fault and you need not do such things alone. I-” She closed her mouth and held out her hand, offering it for him to take and hold it.
She spoke softly, “When I was young, my father told me something. ‘Impossible tasks require impossible dreams, and impossible dreams require impossible means.’ It is… a little rough in translation from the language it comes but it means that nothing can’t be achieved if you are willing to achieve to put the work in for it.” She smirked, pulling her arm back and releasing a soft sigh. Recalling her father was always an emotional undertaking, given that he was always on the move for the sake of his family.
But she could hardly imagine. A SHIN enslaving anything? Zriracha shook her head, “It must be strange to hear such things from a Demon, I imagine. Fair, given I have never heard of a being of the light doing something so heinous. If it were up to me, danger or not, I would go to this home world of yours and fight this deity down myself.” Vangreth
While he knew there was pent-up emotions to emerge while talking about this, Vangreth did not expect the strength of his frustration now that he was finally able to talk about this. The thought that perhaps this had been brought up but this demon, but this thought was quickly dismissed… he could feel that it was his frustration and sadness and only his. He silently accepted the offer of Zriracha’s hand, grabbing it gently and feeling the support it could bring him.
‘’ I know it can not by my fault. I was born into this system, and simply managed to break free…’’ He said with a bit of resolve in his voice; putting himself down over this would not be helping him at all, and he knew that.
Listening to the demon speak of her father and his lesson… Vangreth couldn’t help but realize that even demons seemed to have had the need to have objectives like so, and the difference between life back on Muko and Earth now seemed to apply to everywhere else. Now he was certain that this life was toxic and there was nothing good that would come out of it.
‘’ You seem to have had a close relationship with you father. And for what I can tell, he seemed to have been a wise demon. I think I will borrow his lesson for a while.’’ He would say, a faint, but honest smile appearing on his face as he said so, he seemed to be determined to do something about his condition and the condition of his kin.
It was in this moment that he heard Zriracha saying she’d come and fight the Shinjin herself, he should delicately shake his head.
‘’ While I appreciate the sentiment, I believe this is something I must do myself. If you were to set foot on Muko, he would most likely react by sending everyone on you at once. While if I am the one who goes there, I at least have a shot at getting at his temple before having to fight my way to him.’’
And then it struck Vangreth; without realizing it, he had begun to prepare his plan, and that did bring him some form of relief.
Shaking his head a little, he would look at his hand, that had not moved after Zriracha took bad hers, and would clench it a few times.
‘’ If you don’t mind me asking, how did a demon end up on Earth, weaving itself with its society and seemingly participating in its activity?’’ He would finally ask, his eyes meeting with Zriracha’s as he spoke his question.
While she was disappointed that she couldn’t help, Zriracha was more than understanding about the desire to save ones’ people on their own. She smirked, taking humble amusement in Vangreth taking her father’s words to heart, “He would have found that equally wise to do. Not many mortals heed the wisdom of Demons,” She laughed softly, “-not that many Demons have wisdom to speak of.” It was a small job at her people, but no less true.
The change of topic was a surprise, but a welcome one, allowing them to deviate from the more unsavory side of the conversation. “It is a bit of a long story, but not one I don’t mind telling.” To set up for this story, Zriracha held out a hand to materialize a small glass orb – pushing some of her memories inside through the use of her Magic Materialization II: Memories. As she spoke of her various moments in her life; from where she first appeared through a portal in a forest and met Yanwang – to her journey across the countryside where she searched for ways to rule the world, the orb would show the visual scenes in action from her perspective.
She told of her conversation with Carro, long before he lost his organic form. Being shown around by Kayen, Queen of the Saiyans and even meeting and battling with the mighty General Kraktus. When she finally came to a close, the orb showing the two figures she cared the most about, the cat named Whiskers and regal Arcosian, Polaris – she could be seen smiling at the recall of memories.
“I have come a long way from wanting to rule this world, pushed by the desires shared by my kind. For now, until there comes a more interesting alternative… I am content to spend my immortal days upon this planet and protect it when I am able. However, such things are hardly on my mind, either. Now I just-,” She picked up the phone, amusingly gesturing toward it, “-do this to pass the time.” Vangreth
Vangreth say by and quietly listened to Zriracha’s quick story, absorbed by the visual on her orb, depicting people that Vangreth had very much met! Yanwang the wanna be hero he had briefly met a while back, Carro, president of Earth, which he also met in a short meeting that eventually just ended up in the president being drawn by other important issues and, most frightening of all, General Kraktus, the monster who’s true color had shine threw when he tried recruiting Vangreth into his terrible army… so this world was starting to show its limit after all, Vangreth felt like he had met a good portion of the major players finally.
Zriracha’s story, much different from Vangreth’s, seemed to be one of redemption, change and the search for one’s place in this world. The Mukojin could not help but give a small, but meaningful and deep smile at the demon, who seemed to have at least found partial answer to questions Vangreth just recently found out could be asked.
With a chuckle, looking at the phone, he exclaimed. ‘’ Well, you certainly lived through a lot I see. There is definitively a case to be made about demon’s wisdom as far as I am concerned.’’
Playing with his hands a bit, he would notice that the tea cup he had emptied was… well… full now! And with an exposed surprise, he would grab it and sip some of it once more, content with the taste he had quickly adopted.
‘’ If I were to be perfectly honest, I’d say recognition seems to be a thing I’d like to try. After Muko’s thing are done with, if I survive, I’d like to find my place in all of this, let my kind find out what I did on their own and search a bit for what I would like to be. ‘’
He took a pause there, looked for a moment at the sky, which was starting to darken. ‘’ For now, I only know that I enjoy fighting, earthly distractions and people… so who knows! Next time you go on and fight to protect the planet, maybe we’ll get to share this little hobby of ours.’’
His last words was accompanied with a playful smirk; perhaps the fact that the first thing he did as a free Mukojin was fighting with a Saiyan had influenced his mind after all?
Zriracha laughed at that, sending the pale orb back to the realm from which it came. “You could say that, though I’d have to tell you that I wouldn’t believe you. Wisdom and I… We’ve never gotten along. I thank you all the same, however,” She picked up her tea and sipped at it, rolling her eyes when it appeared to be cold again. As she reheated her cup, taking in the introspective view of Vangreth’s own future. She cocked her head to the side as she thought about that – recognition. Glory and fame did nothing for her - neither did wanton destruction and battle… mmmost of the time. She still very much enjoyed the push and pull of battle when she was in the mood for it and when she was properly motivated.
Upon seeing his grin, something she hadn’t expected to witness, Zriracha mirrored the expression, “Well, then, I hope to see you on the battlefield, friend! Hopefully, the planet does not burn too badly under our charge one day. So far as it is – it’s doing just fine.”
That was a lie; Zriracha had no idea what was going on with the planet and was blissfully unaware of the damage, danger and potentially future threat it could face. But let’s let her think she did.
When she noticed the dusk approach, casting a brief glance into the sky, Zriracha gave a soft ‘Oh’, before turning her attention back to Vangreth, “It appears we’ve spent quite some time here, and it does appear as if it might rain. It has been a pleasant conversation, all topics considered,” She stood from the table, taking the phone, notepad and quill. “Have you a place to retire for the night? If not, I can supply you with funds to rest at a suitable shelter.” Vangreth
