Hundreds of years after the events of the Naruto and Boruto series, the ninja world has started to fall back into turmoil. Although there have been small wars between the minor countries, the five great nations have held to their alliance after the Fourth Great Ninja War. The smaller nations, however, have started to grow weary of the Allied Shinobi Force's accumulation of power and wealth. Some people have even started to whisper about plotting a rebellion against the great nations. The discontent among the people of the minor nations has started to lead to riots and some of the governments fear that a civil war may be inevitable.
Meanwhile, a mysterious mastermind has noted the chaos and works to reawaken the Akatsuki -- finding powerful criminals who will be willing to join their cause. The biju, which were once so feared and alienated, have been sealed into shrines across the land. They are watched by monks, priests, and priestess who guard their temples and keep them company as the biju grow old. People across the various nations worship the biju like demi-gods, although there are still those who seek to steal their power.
With all of this going on, its hardly surprising that most ninja haven't found time to pay attention to the night sky. But if they did, then perhaps they'd notice that there was another star among the blackness that had never been there before. And would think to wonder where it had come from.
