Latent power Jun 21, 2020 14:42:32 GMT -6

Moving objects with his mind was awkward to say the least, much in the same way getting a new limb would feel like. His power did have a sensation to it when he had objects grasped firmly in it or when he was using it to push objects around. However the feeling was bizarre to say the least as it was very much like trying to walk when one of your legs had fallen asleep, the numb sensation only stopping long enough to send a sharp sensation though you when you used it. More then a few times he had caught himself using his ki to lift the object instead of his mind as worked on mastering this new power, Garruk quickly dropping the object the ground and starting over using only telekinesis this time. Still even out here on the ark where it was safer for everyone for him to practice the new Garruk was worried he would lose control and doing some thing stupid again. His out burst before he realized he had these new powers a perfect example, his inability to figure out the difference in someones thoughts over their voice had led him to some rather embarrassing outbursts on his part.
Taking a break Garruk went over the recent week in his head, the small lord trying his best to figure out just when his powers had awakened, the timing between him realizing he was reading thoughts rather then hearing people seemed simple enough but he could not be sure. Picturing it in his head Garruk thought about his outburst again.
His hectic week had been nothing but non stop meetings with some official or another, the city preparing to rise above the surface of the water to introduce them self to earth. Many of the meetings were pointless for him as they were some greedy merchants or another that wanted his word they could be the only one to sell their product, some of them even suggesting that he strong arm the earth government into assisting them in the matter. No matter how many times he refused they kept coming, each one want a more ridicules deal then the last one. It did not help at the time that he had not realized he had been slowly awaking to his power of telepathy and was reading the minds around him, one merchant nearly getting his head torn off when Garruk had heard his thoughts. The man thinking Garruk was nothing but another slimy Acrosian who had wormed his way into power had done nothing to improve Garruks mood. The insulting thought making Garruk explode in anger with only Greisha stopping him form hurting the man, the old solider not understanding the source of Garruks anger. Not even with the disappointment he had read form the woman he thought of like his mother Garruk realize there was some thing wrong, the small alien more then a little put off what he thought was every ones strange behavior.
It was not until Friest had finally returned that someone realized that some thing was wrong, the older Arcosian walking into Garruks office only to notice small objects floating around the room and a very angry Garruk filling out some paper work while he muttered under his breath. Originally Friest had come to the room to object to Garruks treatment of his merchant but before he could even get a word in Garruk had spoken. "I don't want to hear it! The man was throwing insults left and right!" he had nearly shouted before Friest was even in the room, his voice only a few decimals off form yelling. It was only when he had picked up Friests confused thoughts that they both realized something had been wrong, Garruk looking up to see quite a few floating objects fall the ground with his shock. Friest quickly took him to get a check up, the older male worried that Garruk was not in fact sound body and health.
However the news they heard form the doctor had done a lot to settle his fears, the doctors brain scans revealing that Garruk had new growth in his brain. The Growth was very common in telepaths and other Esp like powers." It seems you possess both the abilities to speak with only your mind and telekinesis, the power the move objects with your mind alone. Its not all that unheard of for your race to acquire these abilities to some degree or another, in fact its often seen as a sign that you carry royal blood. Lucky for you Namekians are quite adept with telepathy and I am sure there are more then a few willing to tutor you on the subject. However the Telekinesis aspect of your power will likely need to be self taught" explained the doctor as he showed them both scans of his brain, the scans revealing a small new growth at the base of his spine. It really did not seem like much to look at but Garruk was quite pleased to have any new source of power as his own, his only qualm with the whole situation was the fact he had made a fool of himself to find out that he had the latent powers in the first place.
He had searched out a Namekian quite quickly after that you gain some measure of control over his powers, the old Namekian showing him the in and outs of telepathy. It had been more then a interesting experience to learn how to establish a connection between him and another, Garruk more then once thinking of things he would rather not have others hear during the session. The old man had just laughed him off but it still was rather embarrassing to think about. It was not until he was positive that he could control enough of his power to stop himself form connecting to people at random that he left his tutelage under the friendly Namakian. With one power under control Garruk had left to gain mastery over the other one, the small lord taking the ark into the ocean to gain some solitude as he did so.
And here he was alone in the ark working on training his new abilities, the small Arcosian trying to see if it would be useful in battle or not. It had started off rather weak unable to do more then lift a few pounds but as he worked with the new found power it had steadily grown stronger. Now even the weights weighing a ton where being lifted off the ground or thrown across the room violently, each flex of his mental muscles so to speak granting him just a bit more understanding of his power. Form lifting a single heavy object to lifting a group of objects Garruk had stopped at nothing to gain mastery of the power, the objects orbiting around him quickly similar to a storm as he tested himself.
It was not till the fourth day of training did he feel confident enough to increase the gravity slowly, the weights becoming only more and more challenging with each tick of the dial. For awhile Garruk had hit a dead end with his powers, anything over three tons becoming to heavy for him to lift much to his frustration. It had not until he had learned to draw on his ki to empower his telekinesis that he had broken the weight barrier, the introduction of ki changing the way his new powers felt and worked. Without the ki his powers felt like numb limb, a dead weight that could still be felt touching some thing but only just barely. When Ki was introduced to the mix the limb became like a live wire, the sudden burst of sensation nearly overloading his senses. Only with determination could he control his new powers when ki was involved, the power fighting him every step of the way for control. It was like it was alive and extremely unhappy with him controlling it, the power threatening to break free at any moment. But after hours of constant struggle Garruk had finally reached a hundred and 40 times earths gravity, the weights still lifting into the air as he struggled on out of sheer stubbornness.
Exhaustion of the mind was very different then the body, where one could grow to enjoy the dull ache of the body ones mind held no such relief. Over taxing ones mind did not simply cause a mild pain but rather would put Garruk into a state inactivity, a strange state of being awake but doing nothing for hours on end as his mind tried to recover. In fact when he had first started training the power Garruk had lost a entire day to feed back, his normal call back to the city to check in sending Friest into a frenzy as he raced to check on him. Garruk's vegetable like state sending Friest into a wild panic before doctor had explained that it was very normal and assured him he would recover on his own. After that embarrassing event Garruk would rest between small sessions so that he might keep some state of activity, often times connecting to Friest with his telepathy which thankfully had no such feed back issues.
It was not simply with growing the power that Garruk worked on but the finesse as well, smaller works of control that expanded on his abilities. The first step had been to see how many objects he could lift at the same time, task that had seemed so easy when he first tried it. However he quickly came to realize that he was simply lifting them all up in a small field rather then as individual objects and trying to move one alone without moving the others was nearly impossible. It took some time but he eventually learned to lift multiple objects in the air on their own after some time. Each new object he lifted felt like he was getting a new limb to control, the numbness of the first object he had lifted only growing with each new object. Moving them all was even harder and it did not take him long to realize that gaining mastery of so many objects at the same time would take him months if not years. Even worse was the fact even during this training he had not been moving while he did all this, his body holding nearly perfectly still while only focused on his telekinesis.
He slowly found that he telekinesis weakened considerably when he tried to move his body at the same time, a weakness he could not afford as he started to move though his kata while he worked with his new powers. His kata coming out slowly and with a sloppy form as he tried to focus on more then one sense at the same time, the Arcosian falling down more then a few times due to a lack of focus. Each new idea he trained with only opening more paths for him to explore as the days went on, his efforts paying off slowly. He was slowly started to reach the point where he could use the powers in battle but he would need to practice the maneuvers ahead of time, more so if he planed to move his body at the same time.
When the loud warning beep form the ark had finally sounded Garruk had been amazed to realize just how long he had been out training, the week going by so quickly in his mind that he could have sword he had been only out for a few days. However the warning that the ark needed to get more fuel was a clear indicator that his time training was over, at least for the moment. Turning he set the ark to return to base for repair and refueling, Garruk going over what he still needed to do to finish his training. He still had to fine turn his control for complex tasks such as threading a needle or learning how to incorporate the new power into his fighting style but he was sure he could do it given time. At least with him back in the city he could work on his telepathy some more, he was glad to learn in order to read some ones mind he needed to connect to them and he would not just hear everyone thoughts against his will. Apparently he was lucky no one had realized he was connecting to them, a process that could be stopped fairly easily if the other person tried to force him out. The relief he felt at the thought of it all was more then a small burden off his shoulders, he had only just learned how to tell the difference in a thought form someone speaking and did not relish the idea of having to be forced to hear every ones thoughts at all times.
With a sigh Garruk realized that he now had to apologize to a few of his people, the smaller Arco realizing that more then a few of his recent outbursts had been due to him invading their inner thoughts. It would be embarrassing to say the least, not only cause he had snapped at them but also due to the fact he would need to explain that he had been in fact hearing their inner thoughts. He was not sure if their faces would be filled with horror or outrage at the fact that he could hear their thoughts, both reactions were unappealing to think about. With a frown he left to dispense apologies, his mind entertaining the thought of not telling them at all before dismissing it.
