Polarus also let loose a sigh of solace as Zriracha began to lean into him further- his eyes closing as a content look was plastered onto his face for a few moments as she entertained the thought of Polarus having to deal with the insanity that came with her siblings, inciting another chuckle from the Arcosian, as he replied in an amused voice, "Chaos, among other things, of course are what drew me to you in the first place dear. Again, if you are anything to build an impression off of, I am more than sure we will get along like, what is that odd human expression again-? Two peas in a pod? Although I suppose in this case it would be several hundred peas within a single pod, but, you get the meaning."
As he watched Zriracha began to express her distaste for what her definition of settling down is, Polarus could definitely see why a person like her would have such unease with the prospect of remaining in one place for any long allotted amount of time. She was quite the free spirit, something that the noble found quite admirable, and so he did not judge her at all for not wanting such a permanent situation for the two.
So, not wanting to cause her any further discourse, Polarus slowly began to wrap his tail around hers, just as he did during their last encounter, speaking in a comforting tone as he replied, "You were right, that was precisely what I was getting at. But that is also precisely why I asked you first, and I am more than happy to accommodate after hearing your thoughts on the matter. We need not tie ourselves to a single place or area if you do not wish to. I would be just as, if not more delighted, to travel across the stars above with you for however long you wish." He loved her too much to see her ever in a state of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. It would probably make him miserable as well, if he had to watch his significant other slowly have the life from her drained due to being trapped to one place and one routine day in and day out, so this was quite the easy change of plan to make for the man.
That, did beg the more, uneasy question the two of them now had to face about their relationship, and that was the inherent mortality that gripped Polarus, and less so Zriracha. He knew both of their races had the ability to live very long lifespans, but, he also knew that the universe was rarely ever that kind. As old as his race could become, it was most likely that he himself would pass on to the next life long before his beloved would.
His eyes and composure overall grew much more somber as Zriracha inquired to his understanding of what eternity truly meant to him, and he slowly began to look more straight ahead as she spoke on about her anxiety about their future. His thoughts now a furious flurry as he tried to think of what to say.
Being only a measly ten years Zriracha's senior, Polarus was also relatively young when compared to the eldest of both the Demon and Arcosian races. But the difference being that Demon lifespans could stretch into the eons, while a regular Arcosians age could stretch easily into the centuries, but beyond that remained very ambiguous unless you were of special variety. Pain panged Polarus' heart at the thought of not only leaving Zriracha relatively early within her own lifespan, but also being potentially forgotten if she were to take another love, and another, and another, as she continued onward with her life.
His composure and indomitable appearance began to crack slightly as his confident outward air began to deflate from the weakness of his own mortality, hunching over as he allowed his elbows to rest atop the table in front of them, hands now covering the sides of his face as he spoke in a noticeably lower tone than before, "I doubt I will ever know what forever truly is, or what it truly means. The idea of it sounds, interesting, yet at the same time, tiresome. As though it is a journey that will never end."
Somewhat understanding perhaps at least part of what she was getting at, Polarus continued, voice now nearly lowered to a mutter as he spoke, "I suppose, that, is the outcome you potentially face, due to your race's biology, yes? The idea that, no matter what we wish, I may not be able to endure the trials of time to be there with you every step of the way."
He now visibly shuddered, his confident and prideful atmosphere now emptied out completely, and in its place a cloud of gloom. For once, Polarus, lacked any sort of control. And he, felt vulnerable. He faltered for a moment, nearly tripping over his words as he continued to speak.
"As much as I want to reassure you that, I have the ability to last that long, I imagine we both realize that is not the most realistic of outcomes. And, perhaps, not the one you wish to entertain. And, seeing as, there seems to be not many other options, I ask only two things of you."
Taking a deep breath to try and regain some semblance of his usual self, Polarus eventually turned back to face Zriracha- a dangerously misty eyed, yet still understanding gaze on his face as he took her hands in his own once more.
"That, even if our union is semi-permanent due to my own vitality, we make the most of our time together. And that, if you do, move on to another, that you do not forget the Arcosian that was once the apple of your eye."
Perhaps he was, rushing, asking her to make promises about things that seemed so, stupidly far into the future. Maybe, he was asking something nearly impossible- eons, were a long time, and memory, can be eroded. But, if he were to one day die, and leave Zriracha by her lonesome for however longer she was to continue on, and in the case that she would indeed take another lover, he wanted the memory of what they had to live on, even if he couldn't.
If he himself couldn't last forever, he could try to do the same with what they have right now. The amazing adventures and experiences they most likely would go through hopefully having always a special place within Zriracha's heart, even long after it became no longer his to claim.
