It was hard to be motivated to do an awful lot in Heaven, you must understand. Everything was good, but good to the degree that you could get used to it rather easily. It was difficult not to be content with Heaven and what it offered. If one were already content in life, if one had already made their peace with existence, it wouldn’t take long for even the monotony of a daily routine to be too much to be bothered with. At that point you may as well lay in the grass, eyes unfocused, lips smiling but not any sort of smile you had to put anything resembling effort into, and not ever get up again. Using the example of flame— suitable, given that souls in the Other World appeared as blue flames— it was as if they’d simply get go of the wick, becoming one with the air, with the universe.
It was hard to be motivated to train, yes, but that didn’t mean that Nashi wasn’t motivated. There was so much he needed to live up to, to live for, but Heaven was so simultaneously empty of things to do and so incessantly distracting in the little it did have. But, no! He had days to live, friends to save, a planet to enjoy and a sensei to learn stuff from!!
So that was how Nashi ended up crossing Snake Way— entirely properly this time, of course— setting foot on the planet barefoot to make extra extra sure it counted before whistling his Flying Nimbus to him. It arrived barely a moment later, just long enough for the animator to have a bit of a rest by keeping the frame still but not long enough to stick out to the short attention span of a child. Nashi jumped onto it in the way a cat is expected to. He was smiling already, hoping to show off his Super Mega Cool Nimbus to his teacher. ”Hey, King Kai? I’m here to learn stuff! But also, check out my ride!”
