NAME: Basilisk Scourge III
ALIASES: The Shadow of Raiti-Zacro
SPECIES: Alien-B (Mienai-Jin)
AGE: 34
GENDER: Female
STARTING PLANET: Space
BACKGROUND: The Mienai-jin, apart from their ridiculous naming conventions, are known for two things- an exceedingly nomadic lifestyle and exceptionally strange physiology.
It is this physiology which has historically blessed and cursed them. The skin of Mienai-jin's excrete a specialized layer of strange, airy, cytoplasmic mist- one which is highly adaptable and offers them a variety of specialized effects. For one, Mienai-jin's are experts in stealth- this layer both prevents them from being detected via their energy and through eyesight. The mist distorts senses, both physical and spiritual, leading to a collection of incredibly difficult to detect people. Secondly, the layer of mist may harden itself into a protective cooling or heating mucous depending on the environment which the Mienai-jin finds themselves.
Unfortunately, this also grants them a lot of value to those in the criminal underworld.
Back when cloaking and detection technology wasn't as advanced as the evolutionary ones of the Mienai-jin, they found themselves frequently extorted, threatened and blackmailed to utilize their special skills to aid in more unsavory actions. It was this external threat that caused the species to pack their bags from their homes and leave en masse, taking off to the galaxy. Out there, it was nigh-impossible to locate the species. Without any point for them to return to, underworld dealers had no way of finding the elusive Mienai-jin's out in the vast reaches of space.
Eventually, though, technology caught up with evolution. Cloaking technology and better scouters rendered some of the specialty skills the Mienai-jin offered as obsolete. Thus, most interest in the people was lost, and the Mienai-jin faded into the backdrop of history.
For most Mienai-jin, it was a relief. Most came out of hiding and led peaceful lives.
But some of them didn't. Some of them kept on believing that there was always someone coming after them.
Such was the unfortunate fate of the Scourge family, whose unchecked xenophobia caused a young girl, thousands of years in the future, to live out a particularly unusual life.
Basilisk Scourge III was raised as so many others in the Scourge line were. Compared to her bretheren, some who had been living for hundreds of years, Basilisk really felt her age. The Scourge family line had been subsisting itself for generations in complete isolation- high adaptability meant finding food nearly anywhere and asexual reproduction ensured that the collective could keep on perpetuating itself indefinitely. They had it good.
If you lived with them, though, you'd think they were always on the brink of collapse.
Such was what Basilisk felt for the short 16 years she remained with the family. It was a loud, tense place, full of angry people. Privacy was rare. Arguments were common. The airship was consistently a breeding ground for fear and hostility for the outside world. Other ships and people were avoided like the plague- this was the environment in which Basilisk was raised.A naturally shy and reserved girl, Basilisk eventually found the conditions of her family life to be utterly intolerable. Basilisk was tired of living in constant fear.
It's unclear what was the final straw that drove Basilisk to flee from her family. Maybe it was an argument, maybe it was another xenophobic rant.
Maybe she just wanted to prove to herself that she was better then them. Prove to herself that she had the bravery to tackle the outside world where they didn't.
Discontent and sticking it to them until the very end, Basilisk set out on her own personal journey when they made their next pit stop. She was barely an hour from where she started when she realized something essential- she had no idea where she was going or what she was doing.
It was only through strokes of luck that Basilisk got anywhere, really. Another ship was refueling on the same planet, a cargo vessel, on which she hitchhiked to the next planet. Life continued like that for a while- Basilisk didn't have many skills, but she had unique skills that couldn't be easily replicated. She eventually found herself a mercenary of sorts, selling her talents for all manner of deeds.
There was one small problem- Basilisk didn't actually gain any bravery from leaving the safety of her ship.
No. In fact, Basilisk was deathly shy and a coward by almost every metric.
Basilisk gained a bit of a reputation- not for these facts, but for how she covered them up. Basilisk would wear frightening masks and limit her speech to what was needed. Combined with her mastery of stealth, Basilisk ended up being quite feared in some underworld circles. Much to her chagrin- the greater her reputation got, the more shy and inadequate Basilisk felt in comparison. She was in waaaaay over her head. Frankly, she missed the safety of her old home, as mentally exhausting as that was.
But, fortunately for her, life wouldn't remain that way for long. It was a fledgling pirate crew that hired her for the last time.
She was an early member of the Stormbringer. When Basilisk met her, the woman who would become the Queen of all Saiyans wasn't nearly as infamous. Basilisk felt the immense presence the woman eluded nearly immediately. She spent a week on the crew... which moved to two, then three, then four. There was something about this captain that was different. Something special- there was some kind of force which nearly brought Basilisk to her knees with a single glance. Eventually, she dropped pretenses, and joined the Stormbringer crew- not as a mercenary but as a crew mate.
Basilisk was utterly enamored with Kayen from that point onward. There was finally a place where she felt safe and needed.
Nowadays, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more fanatically loyal woman then Basilisk. Through their years of travel together, Basilisk would always be the first to put life and limb on the line for her captain, no matter the circumstances. When Kayen left for her own devices, Raiti-Zacro was left to her to monitor.
She's no less shy and bashful then she was before- but now, she has purpose. As the Shadow of Raiti-Zacro, Basilisk prowls the streets, cloaked and unseen, ready to be called upon at any moment.
TECHNIQUES:
OFFENSIVE/DEFENSIVE TECHNIQUES:
-[A1] - Acid Spit: Basilisk spits a ball of explosive acid, dealing 33% of her PL in damage and costing 1 KP.
SUPPORT TECHNIQUES:
-[SU1] - Fade: Basilisk cloaks herself and darts away, dodging an attack worth 100% of her PL in damage and costing 1 KP.
UTILITY TECHNIQUES:
-[UT] - Active Camouflage: Due to her race, Basilisk can blend into environments exceedingly well. She changes color and form to match her background, which makes her nearly invisible and nigh-undetectable by the naked eye. Scouters, however, can still get a read on her level of power, exposing her position.
ALIEN TRAITS:
ACE - ESCAPE ARTIST: When trying to escape a Death Enabled thread, if someone attacks you, use a free level-3 Zanzoken. Once per thread.
MODERATE - ANTISENSE: Your character, through some means, renders themselves invisible to ki sensing techs. Scouters can still pinpoint your location in spite of this characteristic.
DIMINISHING - WEAKPOINT (Ears): Attacking a weaker body part results in your character being paralyzed and unable to fight, or even taken down in one blow. This can be trained away with the use of a Technique Slot at 30,000 PL.
