Today was supposed to be a normal day for Vangreth, aside from his regular use of the gravity device that he had to keep being used to if he did not want to lose his proficiency with said training equipement, the alien had nothing weird planned out. He simply decided to go do some exploring in the wild cities of Earth, certainly he would find something crazy that could occupy most of the day, he always did! He decided to depart to East City, the closest to where he was currently, so he packed his capsule house and flew right towards the city.
He spent most of the morning and mid-day wandering on the streets, buying some food to-go on the side, some sweets here and there and interact with some of the Earthlings that could use his help; benevolance was one of the ways he had found for people to accept him easier, and it did kept him busy for a little while, since the city was literally overflowing with work to be done, and he was quite polyvalent when it came to the type of work he could accomplish; even heavy machinery was unable to deploy the strenght he could with only his base form, and slowed down by increased gravity!
To think that I use to be afraid of cities... when it is the most Earth-like places on the whole planet! I wonder if Muko will eventually reach that kind of civilization. It would be nice to have a few more people like me around... well... some that are not trying to do weird stuff to planet anyway! Surely, if I lay down a good foundation, then my kin will be well viewed and able to travel from planet to planet without having to go out of their way to not be viewed as a monster beforehand...
Those thoughts on his minds where confusing, but the strangest thing was another voice... at first, he thought he had imagined it, but as he move, there was this consistent noise, barely a whisper, but continuously speaking in his ear. The alien kept looking around, close to him, further, perhaps on the roof with telepathy? It had to be someone who could see him, since he could not be sensed, nobody would know he was there otherwise! Vangreth's nerves were getting tested, and someone wanted to pass a message, but who and what exactly was still a mystery!
That's when Vangreth saw it, in the reflection of a glass display on the street. His reflection was not clear, and he could not define the details enough, but the thing in the reflection... there was something in his place! Instead of being sideway and walking, it was directly facing him! It grealy ressembled the monster that he had assumed was a distant cousin from his species, yes, that had to be it! He was back again, and using some sort of magic to drive Vangreth crazy! He had to get out of there!
Breaking a rule of his own, he began to fly out of the moving crowd and away from all these people; if something was about to happen, he had to be as far away from a city he could! So he pushed the hardest he could away from the city and towards the ocean, where he knew for a fact nothing could be broken and no Earthling life could be damaged! It took him but a few seconds to do it, and eventually, he was in the middle of nowhere, only waves as far as his eyes could see...
Where are you monster? Why are you in my head? Come and face me like you always do! Playing games won't change anything! Face me or go away!
He could hear the panic in his voice, even if it was in his head! Vangreth was losing his temper fast; he could not fight this, he had no idea where it was anyway! There was no point in trying to find it via ki-sensing either because it had similar capacities! His mind was spinning with solutions, there had to be a way to find this thing before it fell on him!
While resting his palm on his forehead, his head facing down, he noticed his reflection in the water... and there it was again... a reflection of this thing! It was different from the previous monster he had encountered! That meant there was more of them! Well, that he knew already, since there had to be one before on Earth, he had found evidences of that before, but there were more than one alive and aware of his position! The voice was getting clearer and clearer, he could hear some words now, but the sentences where cut, similar to a bad internet.
He had to get out of there! He did not know why, but there was something telling him to leave quickly! So again, he pushed himself throught the sky and went towards the Fortune Teller's Desert, where at least he could have footing, and nothing could come out of the ocean for a surprise attack! Yeah, surely that was it, this was the reason his instinct was telling him to leave! Oddly enough, Vangreth found something that caught his eye in the desert... a tower mostly covered in sand by now, probably built on top of a bigger building... surely he could have the advantage there!
He entered from the top of the tower and began his spring throught the massive building under the sand. It looked very old and strange, almost like it was from another world... or another time. Vangreth realized way too late that his instinct was guiding him somewhere precise; and only when he crossed a doorway into a dead-end room where he understood... it was telling him where to go... it's objective became clear to him, they were trying to get a better mirror. A clearer reflection came in the form of a room with a massive mirror replacing one of the walls, where Vangreth could, again, see something in his place, with his back turned but slowly turning to face him.
He knew what it would look like... deep down, he always knew from the first time he saw that weird reflection... he recognize the strange outfit, the white hair, the patern of red-line all over... but most alarming of all... he did not recognize the face. It was changed, the eyes were diamond-shape, not unlike his iris when he was in his 'Void Comet' form; it had no mouth, barely a little bump where the nose should be and two lines going down from his eyes, like his eyes were melting.
This was him... but it was also that thing. That monster that kept tormenting him, yet, it was still his reflection. When their eyes met, Vangreth was filled with mixed emotions, some fear, anger, distress and others he could not even identify, it felt like his whole brain was about to breakdown!
His reflection waved at him, and while it had no face, Vangreth could FEEL that it was smiling. It knocked gently on the glass, producing no sound. Its voice kept whispering in Vangreth's ears, this time, it was clear as day.
'' It's almost time. Devour life. Consume. Stronger. Must grow stronger. ''
This voice, while very similar to his own, was... for lack of a better word, inhuman... it spoke with the cadence of a computer, with no emotions other than a strange version of excitement that weirded out Vangreth.
This sequences of sentences and words kept repeating, but Vangreth could make no sense of it... well... outside of the obvious that is.
He did not spoke to it, nor did he even make a sound, but its song changed suddenly.
'' Soon. Very soon. Taking control. No more Vangreth. ''
With a suddent urge of fear, Vangreth screamed, powering up to his maximum and unleashing volley after volley of ki blast in every direction, causing the collapse of the whole building under the crushing sand. The voice eventually faced, but its last words did make themselves heard.
'' Soon. Very soon. But not now. Now we wait. Vangreth must stay.''
The voice then dissapeared. And after emerging through the sand and rushing to the nearest oasis so he could verify it... Vangreth powered down and left a sigh of relief... his good old reflection was back in the water... with fear in his eyes, but relief... it was gone. Someone had obviously used magic on him, and his powering up probably dispelled it... or perhaps it was the outburst of rage... but that was not important right now... it was gone, and Vangreth could breath normally again... without having to hear beast-like dialogue in his head...
Weirdly enough, this event quickly faded in Vangreth mind, not shaking him further, even though he remembered most of it... it became like a nightmare, one you can remember, but you can rationalize... although... he had no explanation.
