Hey All,
Man It doesn't seem like Ive been back for long >.<. Figured I'd place this here in response to a small chat we had in the discord today - but I had some ideas that I wanted to atleast put down on paper and talk out and see if maybe im not the only one whom thinks it to be a good move. The topic of today's Suggestions would be in regards to Ships. As it stands on WoD Currently, outside of one LTO, we have 3 Specific spacecraft available for purchase at any given time (Spacepod, Spaceship, Mothership), as well as a few Upgrades - three to be precise - that mostly pretain to those ships therein.
What I'd like to propose - initially - is a potential shift in how one may purchase these ships that might make it a bit less harsh on the Player after they've invested into something more than just your basic Spacepod. What I'd like to suggest is a "Step Up" Purchase plan for Ships. Such a process would go as follows;
Current Pricing for Ships:
Spacepod: 2,500
Spaceship: 5,000
Mothership: 8,000
A step up purchase plan would allow someone who purchased any of these objects to purchase the next tier up including the price already paid for their initial ship (Kind of as if upgrading their original vessel). In this example, A Spacepod at 2500 would be the first purchase, with the Spaceship as the second. In this scenario, By "Trading in" the Spacepod towards the Spaceship, the cost would be reduced by the amount originally spent (2500) making the new purchase only 2,500 as opposed to its normal 5,000. Now, Why would I suggest this when we already have a "Refund" System in place? There's a small disparity between the refund amount - for ships - in regards to returning and upgrading. Even in a society today, Kelly Bluebook values etc. Most vehicles would be capable of returning for half their original value after some use or time. Now, while I do not think this to be a straight emulation of life, I feel this might be a good way to allow members to purchase upgrades to their vessels without having to spend more than 30% Extra ontop of their original purchase just to obtain them.
The Second Conversation piece is in regards to the LTO Item - Pirate Cruiser. Its Descriptions and Cost are as follows:
Pirate Cruiser
Cost: 20,000z
Description: A colossal space-travelling vessel that looks like it was aimlessly put together. Despite this, it's very durable and complete with everything one might want in a spaceship. It seats 6 player characters, and has the effects of both the Stealth Upgrade and Turbo Drive items. Once per month, you can opt to reduce your travel time between planets to one hour.
Now, Ultimately, this LTO is essentially a Mothership with one Extra Ship, a Stealth Upgrade and an Enhanced Turbo Drive(Enhanced in that it has a Once a month 1 hour travel time upgrade). Its nice, its fast, its pleasant...but...kind of underwhelming for the price if you consider the following;
Mothership: 8,000
Turbo Drive: 4,000
Stealth Upgrade: 3,000
Total Cost: 15,000z
The Mothership, with the same upgrades (Minus the enhanced version of the Turbo Drive) and one less seat, is 5,000 less and does the exact same thing - both mechanically and functionally - as the Pirate Cruiser. Now, Is the Enhanced Drive which is once per moth really worth the Extra 5,000? Is the ship, on its own, Really worth spending more just for the fun of owning an LTO version of the same thing you can just make yourself? I don't believe so.
but then...what do we do? Its not overpowered - so its balanced, but its also not really much of a "WoW" Factor. My suggestion is as follows. Perhaps, instead of just having the two upgrades, the LTO - for the 5,000 - should also include and be the only large ship with the Autopilot function as well. Adding the Autopilot feature to the LTO would discern it from being nearly replicatable with the Mothership Fully Upgrade as well as add another good reason to go for that one as opposed to the Mother Ship as it would have a function the normal ships wouldn't gain (Outside that hour...which in the grand scheme with all the travel changes doesn't really equate to anything).
This is but one idea that doesn't place the vessel too far out of the realm of fairness and incorporates all the upgrades available on site without needing to add "new things".
Anyway - its open for discussion, I simply wanted to put it out there.
