The Wolf in Saiyan's Clothing [x100 Solo] Sept 22, 2020 6:17:25 GMT -6

He found himself going back to the depraved streets of Cacumber, his own reasons a mystery to him. Curiosity, Duran imagined. He felt obligated to know more about these current day Saiya-jin. What fueled them, how they went about their day, and how their society functioned. Duran wrote it off to himself as a matter of 'Know thy enemy'. If he was ever to lay siege to this city, he'd need to know all the inner workings of it.
Luckily, Duran had already gotten a taste of Cacumber and it's people, when he managed to conquer his initial fear of entering the city, as well as attaining mastery over times one-hundred gravity. Funnily enough, Duran found himself being pressurized by that same level of gravity at this very moment. It kept his mind occupied during the long trek over the Saiba Wastes.
Duran met no resistance as his form crossed over the large outer walls of Cacumber, being recognized as 'one of their own' by multiple security drones. He gazed down at the streets of the Radditsu District, wondering if the Saiyans he helped a few weeks ago were still around.
Turri, Rettus, and that crazed mechanic.
If he could rely on anyone for more information about the city, it'd be them. Duran had already gained their trust by saving Rettus' life, so it was his best bet.
He floated down onto the gravel, crushing pebbles under his iron step. While he felt more comfortable on these streets, Duran still chose to suppress his own power to the absolute minimum, just in case anyone were to point a Scouter at him out of sheer curiosity. He didn't want to arouse any unwanted suspicion.
As he began his journey through the intertwined streets of the Radditsu District, Duran saw many different faces. Saiyans and Non-Saiyans alike; A puzzling thought. For every Saiyan warrior Duran laid eyes on, he saw multiple Androids, Aliens and even some Namekians, all proudly wearing the traditional Saiyan combat armor.
'They expanded their army this much?' Duran pondered in thought, skeptically glancing toward some of them. 'Why would an outsider willingly choose to align with Cacumber? Unless...' Unless they had been forced to, either by sheer domination or having no other options. Even Leech and Anny had resorted to doing mercenary jobs for the Saiyans of Cacumber. Strange how times have changed...
Passing more and more buildings, Duran began to notice the posters plastered on the marble-white outsides of the various pubs and homes. At first, the Cyborg chose to not pay it any mind, until he found himself crossing an open square.
Dozens of soldiers from the Saiyan Kingdom had gathered around what looked to be a large, holographic notice board. They spoke and shouted through- and over eachother, an endless commotion over something Duran couldn't make out. His curiosity got the better of him, and he chose to investigate further. Duran wormed himself through the crowd, and began to scan the notice board.
...It was a Wanted Board. On it were constantly updating messages about the enemies of Cacumber, wanted criminals that had a hefty bounty on their head. He saw names he didn't recognize, such as Scallio, Kalabas Strongbone, Cress of Shikk, among some other less notable ones. However, Duran saw one name he did recognize: Vocado. His face had forever been burned into Duran's memory since their encounter on Namek. The Once-King of Vegeta. So, he was an enemy of the state?
However, as Duran kept scanning the board for usable information, he saw one notice that made his cybernetic heart sink into the pit of his stomach. A deep, indescribable fear festered inside of him.
It was him... Duran himself.
The Kingdom knew he was out there.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE
THE 'DESTRON MENACE'50,000 ZENI REWARD
INQUIRE AT YOUR NEAREST
SAIYAN KINGDOM OFFICIAL.
Duran honed in on his own notice with fearful eyes. It was a descriptive message of a mysterious Android masquerading as a Saiyan Soldier in the Tuffle Ruins, who weakened his victms with Destron Gas before murdering them. While the attached sketch of Duran's appearance was incorrect, with inaccurate hair and two organic eyes among other inconsistencies, it was enough of a similiarity to terrify Duran.
He cursed himself in thought; Someone, somewhere, had been given enough time to forward a rough description of Duran's appearance to the Saiyan Kingdom officials. Was it one of the Saiyan grunts that he killed, after trespassing on the Ruins? Or was it that older Saiyan woman, Amara's mother? His mind lingered on the latter. 'I should've killed that wench when I had the chance...!' He hissed in thought, defiantly staring at his own wanted sketch. With all the Saiyan soldiers that Duran was forced to murder over the last months, he was bound to slip up at one point. But this soon...?
'Damn it, damn it!' He cursed, turning around to leave the crowd of distracted grunts. Duran quickly stomped his way through the remaining streets that separated him from the workshop of Turri's father. They were his safest bet to ask for more information regarding the Wanted Boards; Surely they wouldn't be skeptical of someone that saved a loved one's life?
The workshop quickly came into view as the commotion of the busy streets faded into the back of his hearing. He approached the shop with a quick pace, but immediately froze when he saw two Saiyans standing directly infront of the workshop. Duran instantly recognized the smaller Saiyan woman and the larger male- Turri and Rettus. Duran quickly moved into an adjacent alleyway and plastered himself against the wall as their voices dominated the streets.
''Why don't you think about me for once, Retty?!?'' Turri shouted desperately.''I AM thinking about us! Just think about what we could do with the money, Turri! We could leave this shit-hole forever, and get a place in the Upper Districts!'' Rettus shouted back defensively. From a distance, Duran kept his ear close to the corner, listening intently to their conversation.
''B-But Retty...What about the baby? What if something happens to you?!'' Turri shouted again, a pained croak in her voice.
...So the woman was pregnant all along? Her extreme behavior regarding Rettus' earlier disappearance suddenly made more sense...
''Do you really want our kid to grow up in this dump!?'' Rettus snapped back angrily. ''I'm not going to give our child the same shitty upbringing we've had, Turri! I'm better than my own father, we'll raise our baby PROPERLY!''
Duran was amazed to hear a Saiyan so concerned about things relating to love, and care. These were the same species known to send their infants off into space to conquer remote planets...What happened along the way? Were they an outlier, or did all Saiyans...Experience love? Concern? Duran's heart felt heavy with a strange, indescribable feeling.
''I...Rettus...'' Turri spoke softly. Duran could barely hear her voice. ''I love you, Turri.''
From the distance, Duran felt his heart ache with controversy, the same feeling he was left with after his first visit to Cacumber. Rettus and Turri...They had to be outliers. To think every Saiyan had developed feelings of love; It was absurd... Right? It couldn't possibly be true...
''Please be safe out there, okay?'' Turri asked, her question piquing Duran's interest once again. What was she referring to?
''I'll be fine. They might call him the 'Destron Menace', but that's just a title. Bet'cha ten Zeni he's a total chump when he can't get the jump on ya.''
...No. No, no, no...Duran was dreaming, right? There was no way this was happening. Not him, anyone but him...
''I'll raze those entire Ruins if I have to. For our future.'' Rettus spoke confidently, tightening his fist.
'No! NO!' Duran screamed internally, his eyes wide with panic. The Cyborg froze in fear behind that wall as he heard the Saiyan couple exchange goodbye's. His metallic fingers scraped against the outer rim of a building as he heard Rettus' Ki flare up, as he ascended into the sky and flew far away.
What was he to do? Duran couldn't risk revealing himself to Turri's husband, but to allow him to lay waste to the entire Tuffle Ruins?! Duran shut his eyes tightly, and thought harshly. He had no choice but to confront him. Duran had to stop him, one way or another...
With a heavy heart and bated breath, Duran took off into the skies with all the power he could muster. A purple stroke of Ki blitzed into the sky, quickly disappearing into the horizon.
...Turri saw the purple sheen, confused. What was that?
Far away from Cacumber, across the vast Saiba Wastes, it felt like something terrible was going to happen. A dark omen.
It hadn't been difficult for Duran to track down Rettus. The Saiyan soldier was considerably weaker than Duran, and he had kept his Scouter locked on him the entire time. As he began to fly into the Destron-filled ruins of the lost Tuffle civilization, distant explosions began to echo around him. The dull noise came from below, down on the streets themselves. Duran wasn't even sure anymore if the intensified weight he felt was his gravity device, or his fear weighing down on his very being.
Duran hesitated briefly as his eyes traveled down toward the smog-filled remains. He swallowed his fear, and descended down.
Rettus shot stray blast after stray blast into piles of rubble and crumbled buildings. Once the echoes of one explosion left the air, new ones immediately came to replace them. The Soldier paused alertly as stray pebbles clattered down onto the concrete. The sound of Duran's feet touching the ground followed. Rettus smiled, but didn't turn around.
''Ah, it's you! Duran, right?'' Rettus asked, yet his tone was anything but friendly. The Saiyan was defensive, and carried a determined grin. ''I knew I wasn't going crazy, thinking someone was following me...'' The Saiyan's voice trailed off skeptically, as if he was onto something.
Duran stood calmly behind him, not moving a single muscle or betraying the slightest thing through his facial features.
''Your wife is worried, Rettus.'' Duran spoke to him clearly.
Rettus breathed in slowly, before turning around to face the Cyborg, still carrying that defiant grin. His silence weighed down on Duran, who's worry only increased with every passing second. It was obvious that he was onto something. But, if Duran could remain calm, everything should turn out okay...
''Is she now? Well, I promised her I'd be back before dinner. Shouldn't take that long to find this freak, right?'' He snickered, briefly glancing sideways as he launched another stray wave of Ki toward an adjacent building. Duran's hair waved in the shockwave's gusts of wind, yet he stood completely still. Silently, he kept reminding himself that he couldn't betray the slightest thing.
''It's very dangerous here, Rettus. This place is nothing like the Saiba Breeding Grounds...'' Duran spoke to the Saiyan again, hoping to convince him to simply travel alongside him, back to Cacumber.
''Tch,'' Rettus sounded unamused. ''Why don't you help me out? We can catch this asshole in no time, I'll give you a cut of the bounty, hm?''
''I'm not returning without you, Rettus.''
Rettus continued to stare at Duran in silence. His grin grew bigger as the moments passed by, until he eventually couldn't hold it any longer. The Saiyan began to chuckle inwardly, to which Duran's brow began to furrow. In an instant, Rettus' grin vanished, replaced with a resentful glare.
''Don't fuck with me, Duran. I know it's you.'' He hissed toward the Cyborg. Duran remained silent, staring back as the sweat ran from his forehead.
''...You're-'' ''SHUT UP!'' Rettus shouted, casting his arm to the side. ''You sick, twisted freak! Try and weasel your way into my family, right?! I'm gonna enjoy breaking you, you piece of shit!'' He snarled, clenching his teeth as his hands balled into fists.
Duran continued to stand there, silently, as if he was frozen in place. He looked at Rettus with a guilt-ridden expression, casting out shallow breaths. ''You don't understand, I...-''
''You what?! YOU WHAT?!?'' Rettus screamed. ''SPEAK UP!''
Duran's gaze fell to the ground. The proud, merciless warrior of the Tuffle army, reduced to a silent, insecure pushover. How could he ever explain? How would someone like him ever believe him...?
''...I thought so.'' Rettus hissed, venom seeping into his words. The Saiyan Soldier raised his hand, clicking a button on the side of his Scouter.
Immediately upon hearing the click, Duran's eyes shot upward with terrifying speed, staring at the Saiyan with a crazed look. Constricted, mere dots for pupils, and widened eyes. Duran's muscles began to twitch involuntarily, as he felt his primal instinct to survive take over.
''I've located the Destron Menace! I repeat, I've loca-GHKAAA!!'' The sound of Rettus' scouter exploding drowned out his pained scream. Cursing under his breath, the Saiyan looked up through blurred vision, the skin around his right eye burned and charred.
Through his blurred vision, he saw Duran's terrifying, murderous glare trained on him. The barrel of his canon smoked as a result from the stray Ki he fired off.
Rettus backpedalled, skittering away from Duran with his eyes glued on him. Fear burrowed deep into Rettus' eyes, as he was met with the glare of someone fighting to survive, at whatever cost.
Duran slowly began to walk toward the Saiyan, his subconscious drowning out all other emotion, knowing fully well what had to be done. Every step was profound and loud as his metallic, heavy feet stomped down onto the concrete. Rettus continued to crawl back until he slammed against a wall, slowly beginning to whimper.
''P-Please...I'm a-about to become a f-father...Please...!'' He pleaded with Duran, whose blade shone ominously under the light of the sun. ''I-I won't tell anyone, I promise! Please man, just...Just let me see my wife again, please...!''
But Duran didn't stop advancing toward him. The Cyborg took deep breaths, casting out excess Destron Gas from the crevisces in his mask. It was as if his entire mind went blank; A cloud of static, with the only clear word echoing loudly in the center. 'SURVIVE'. He couldn't believe Rettus' word. He couldn't leave anything to chance.
As Duran took one more step forward, Rettus abandoned the idea of bargaining with Duran, and scurried away from the Destron Menace. He broke off into a run and leapt into the air, a shroud of white Ki enveloping him as he attempted to flee from Duran.
The Cyborg took chase, quickly gaining on Rettus due to the extreme power gap between them. Rettus began to wail and shout into the sky as he saw Duran gain on him, praying for help, for anything.
...But there was no answer.
Duran managed to blitz infront of Rettus' flight path. Their eyes met one last time before Duran lashed out with his weapon. He saw the light fade from the Saiyan's eyes as blood began to leak from the large gash in his armor, silence filling the Vegetan sky.
Rettus' corpse fell down, before crashing down onto the dirt.
At first, Duran felt nothing. The static within his mind continued to fester as he descended down to the ground, with only one thought in his mind: To remove the evidence. He landed next to Rettus' lifeless corpse, gazing down at it with an empty, hollow gaze.
...Slowly, Duran began to feel his own pulse again. A profound, heavy beating that pulsed across his entire body. He recognized his own breathing again, and slowly, recognized his place in reality again. His lone thoughts of surviving were replaced with many thoughts. Things he saw, felt, heard.... The things he did.
Tears welled in Duran's eyes as he finally began to comprehend what he had done. He fell down on his knees, head sunken into his chest. Duran's eyes shut tightly. What had he done...?
He killed him. He killed someone people loved. He killed a husband, a caring man...
He left a future newborn without a father.
It felt to Duran as if his own morality was finally catching up to him, as if he was being punished for treating the Saiyans with prejudiced hatred. Had his views on right and wrong been false all of this time? For his entire lifetime, Duran had been taught that these people were the ultimate evil...And yet here he was, taking the life of a good man.
It wasn't fair, Duran thought. He regretted every last second of it, his guilt weighing down harshly upon himself. Yet at the same time, it felt so utterly wrong to feel guilty. Duran's true identity would've been revealed, had he let Rettus escape...He'd put Iyokan's life in danger, as well as his own.
Duran opened his eyes to look at Rettus' lifeless expression.
Had he done the right thing...? No, he knew that much.
Duran continued to mourn for some time. He sat by Rettus' corpse, reflecting on his life. There were so many questions to answer, yet it felt like he'd never get a true answer to any of them.
With the weight of his sins pressing down on him, Duran carefully lifted Rettus' corpse from the pavement and moved it to an open field of dirt. He'd have buried the Saiyan near nature, had this hellish landscape allowed anything to grow.
Solemnly, Duran began to dig into the soil with his own body.
As he reached six feet deep, a tear fell into the cold soil below.
At least he'd get a proper burial.
x100 Gravity is in effect. Thank you
