BACKGROUND: Cin Eastwind was supposedly born to an impoverished family in the far east. His parents were lowly shoe makers in a small village, and made a very meager living. While they both loved their new born son very much, they lacked the proper funds to afford the extra mouth to feed. Rather than allow the boy to starve to death, his father had an idea. Seven miles away from their village was a large temple and dojo in the mountains. It was a place of worship, spiritualism, and martial arts. While the temple wasn't the most charitable of organizations, they would likely take the boy in, if the parents agreed he would become a monk. This was their plan, and it was what they would do. At least, this was the story he had been told.
The boy would be brought to the head monk, who would accept the parents' offer. While they were devastated to see the child go, they knew he would be safe. The man's early years in the facility would be brutal, as he was quite a rowdy child, in a place that required much discipline. The monks would have to frequently reprimand him, and keep his head regularly shaved. This was something he especially despised, as he enjoyed the feeling of hair. Education was another thing he tended to do badly in. While he enjoyed things like history and ancient lore, subjects like math and science seemed boring to him.
As Cin reached the age of eight, his martial arts training would begin. The monks would teach him many traditional styles such as kung fu, tai chi, and kendo. While he could tai chi slow and entertaining, he excelled in the other forms. Cin seemed to be a natural fighter, though his parents were no warriors. As time would pass, he would grow into one of the temple's greatest fighters. Though he was only a child, he would slowly begin to defeat much more experienced opponents.
Though he had become accustom to life in the temple, Cin had always wondered what regular folk did, and how they lived their lives. The more he thought on it, the more he wanted to leave the temple. His parents had saved his life by offering him to the monks, but locked him into indentured servitude unknowingly. This was the beginning of his wish to leave the temple...
Around the time he reached the age of eighteen, new began to spread about a special artifact that was being delivered to their temple. It was said to be a legendary blade of some kind, a massive nodiachi that cumbersome for even the fiercest warrior to hold. It wasn't something to be used in combat, but to be displayed. The masters made this a clear point, just in case the students got any ideas. The weapon was also unnamed, and placed on a mount in the dojo's central room. While his peers seemed uninterested, Cin felt something compelling him to the weapon. It was just asking him to hold it...
That night, he would sneak into the central room, and grab hold of the blade. It was heavy, but his strength was greater than most other's, allowing him to swing it with some effort. The kendo training seemed to pay off, as he had already mastered several combination attacks. For two hours strait, he would train with the blade. He felt a strange connecting to it, but couldn't quite explain the feeling. It was as if his ki could flow through it freely, like an arm. He would spend the next few months, sneaking out every night to train with the weapon. He would begin to grow vastly stronger through the course of time. His training seemed to be augmented in a way.
One night, he decided it was time to leave the temple and seek greater challenges. He would steal the sword, and leave under the cover of darkness. For the next several years, he would live in the city and forests of earth. Every now and then, he would hear of the monks looking for him, or even just his blade. After all that time, he had finally decided on a name for his sword. "Nameless".
