Almost like it knew to amplify the dramatisation of this moment, Vangreth’s gravity device increased in power as his hand hovered on top of the ‘start simulation’ button. He knew it had to be done, even more so, it was obvious that if he did not face this right now, it would haunt him for way too long. However, the idea of not only having to face himself in a fight, but actually having to use an inferior form in term of power… it was sort of lost from the start, and the alien did not expect to win this exchange, but he had to know exactly how strong that form was, and more precisely, what were its limit, if he could even push them, that is.
The Muko-Jin took a deep breath, something he rarely ever did, mostly because he did not need oxygen as much as your average, but under stress, it seemed to help get through the worst parts of something you had to do… and get through it he did, as he pressed the digital pad, confirming the settings he had asked for, as the combat simulator began to generate the background, the decors and finally… his opponent for the match, the transformed version of himself, standing tall and menacing in front of him with a grin Vangreth could only imagine he had, since it did not have any mouth to begin with. There was a floating moment of silence as the two stared down each-other, of course Vangreth was the only one here that could think by itself, the other him was controlled by a computer, but it was still incredibly strange to stare down a monstrous version of himself.
His reflected image got ready for combat, visibly letting the real Vangreth have the first move… Well, that was more the way the simulator worked than a real gesture of politeness from the artificial intelligence.
Vangreth powered up quickly, turning into the Void Comet, because if he chose any other form, he could get absolutely destroyed, he really had no choice there. His first mistake was not knowing transforming was considered by the simulator as an ‘ok’ to start the fight, and just as Vangreth achieved his strongest mastered form, he got gut-punched the a blurr, the fast-moving image of his monstrous self had began moving, and he was absolutely insane!
The alien’s breath got cut right off, and the first attack had opened his guard wide, which the opponent used to hit him in the jaw with his knee, relenthless and powerful, this much was confirmed for now! Vangreth had no choice, he bit it up and charged a single Void Strike in an attempt to knock away his opponent, just enough to catch his breath would be great.
He quickly sprung into action, throwing his punch into his opponent’s gut, which did manage to send him back slightly, allowing Vangreth to get back up and catch his breath.
‘’ Alright, so he’s not invincible, that’s something.’’
He said out loud, not expecting a response, before going on the offensive before his foe managed to catch himself back. He however, forgot that he was fighting himself, or rather, forgot that it also meant this image had the same recuperation rate as himself, and so he was ready to counter-attack as soon as Vangreth got in close combat.
Vangreth managed to throw the first punch, which connected, but then his opponent just grabbed into his arm and judo-threw him into the ground before striking his chests against the earth, getting Vangreth his first computer-generated blood cought… just how realist that could get was absolutely insane!
After the punch, Vangreth did not wait to recover and grabbed on the arm that hat punched him, twisting it and using it to hold his opponent in place as two extra arms sprung from his back and began to pummel at his foe with all his speed and strength! This helped Vangreth distract his mirror image, enough so to sweep his legs with a kick and exchange their places!
Now the real Muko-Jin was on top, throwing punches after punches at his opponent, trying to at least slow him down.
After a quick moment where Vangreth could almost think he had the upper hand, the powerhouse broke-free and swiftly reversed the steam with his own Void Strike, which Vangreth neither saw coming nor could have done anything to prevent anyway. The punch connected and sent Vangreth flying upward.
While he was sent through the sky, Vangreth couldn’t help but be kind of amazed that this kind of power was dormant within him… he was no match for now, but the fact that he could not have control over it was all the more infuriating to think about.
Of course, the reception was above him, and he was kicked down into the ground at high speed by his stronger counterpart, crashing into the simulated earth with very little recovery to it…
The Alien got up slowly, his body, while not really hurt, was simulating pain, and it was making it difficult to move freely… but the reason he was able to get up at all was getting obvious. The other him was charging up a Galaxy Piercing up in the sky, preparing to send it down to him. This was no good, and the alien barely had the time to notice it that it was coming right for him! The attack connected, as Vangreth would have never be able to react to it with such little time, and his body was once again thrown into the ground, this time, his additional arm, and even one of his two original were torn right off him, the pain being slightly under what he had really endured that one time he lost it for real, so he could tell it was still simulated.
His body began to regenerate as soon as the attack faded, and as his wounds closed and his arm reformed, Vangreth got back up quickly, enraged by his own inaptitude to fight against his own techniques… but it was not done.
Up in the air, his monstrous form was charging up his signature technique! The True Galaxy Piercer was aimed at him! This triggered more anger into the alien’s body, and his energy began to rise with this searing feeling! It was not fully charged, of course! This imitation would not be able to use it at its full potential at least! He readied himself to take it, for the simulation to be over, but when the clouds parted, revealing the drilling projectile he knew all too well, something happened. His instinct kicked in, and while adrenaline was flowing in his vein, his body reacted on its own, knowing the attack by heart, he was able to dodge it with very minimal movement, and with a precise display of control, managed to grab the energy drill without having it explode and send it back to its user! With all of his remaining force, and with very little movement at all, he had returned his own signature technique! Of course he would, it was literally his own, he knew everything about it, especially the weak points!
As the Muko-Jin prepared himself to keep fighting, see this new hope spring as he got this victory over his simulated self… something felt wrong. Nothing was coming out of the cloud that was formed by the massive explosion, the attack… and the simulation ended with a ‘Congratulation’ music playing over.
Vangreth was confused, and without waiting, he went to see the replay of the final moments.
There he was standing, his opponent, facing the return technique… and suddenly… before the impact, he turned back into regular Vangreth… why was that? Was this form not sustainable? Had it used all its energy? Did Vangreth really defeat his stronger self by stalling? How was that possible, he barely put any damage on it!
Reflecting in what just happened, the alien got out of the chamber containing the combat simulator and returned into his regular house… there was a lot to be analysed here. It seemed like his form had failed to sustain itself in combat and reverted to his base before getting defeated… perhaps the two extremely strong attacks back to back had emptied its energy reserve? Or perhaps the simulator had a bug? Whatever it was, there was certainly a feeling of incredible satisfaction, as Vangreth just defeated his stronger self, but he knew far too well that it was not that simple, and his victory, while sweet, was the product of circumstances.
With that in mind, he removed his gravity device and returned to his base form, exiting his house to enjoy some of what the rest of the day has to offer, uncertain of what the future had in reserve for him.
