The fire crackled, as the scent of the cooking meat filled the air. Ochra had become quite at hunting game, as well as cooking it over an open fire. Honestly, if he ever retired from bounty hunting, he could probably open his own barbecue restaurant. Meats cooked over an open fire. The thought caused Ochra to chuckle softly to himself.
It was a nice, quiet evening in the forest. A few successful hunts, some good money made. You'd think he could afford a place to stay, but he had gotten so used to roughing it in the great outdoors that it was almost natural to him.
Suddenly, there was a loud screeching noise coming from overhead. Ochra looked skyward just in time to see some sort of fireball shooting across the sky, followed by the tell-tale boom of something hitting the ground. A meteor? Or something else?
Ochra sprang to his feet, and without a moment's hesitation shot towards the crash site. As he approached, Ochra caught sight of what the large object truly was. A ship. Looked in pretty bad condition was well, much worse than from just a simple crash landing like that. Had it been damaged before hand? Certainly looked like it.
But as Ochra looked over the wreckage, he felt it. Within that twisted metal. Someone was alive. It was faint, but it was there. Without regards for the ship, he tore through the metal to get inside. Inside, the ship was barely any better, control panels ruined, scorch marks everywhere. And inside were two bodies. A man and a woman, both dead. One had pink skin, the other blue, both with pale hair. "Brenchians?" Ochra murmured to himself. Strange, looking at these bodies, it looked like they...
His eyes fell to an overturned tank that had come loose from the wall. Heaving it aside, Ochra's eyes widened as he saw the third occupant of the ship.
A small child, a young girl. Pink skinned with long blonde hair. And she was still alive, barely.
Anglace's eyes slowly fluttered open, only to see the white of the ceiling above her. Was she dead? Was this heaven? As her senses returned to her, she could gear the tell tale beeps and sounds of a hospital room. How did she get here? The last thing she remembered was...
"Doctor, she's waking up." came a soft, female voice.
Anglace tried to lift her head, to see who was there. Suddenly, large hand moved to gently cup the back of her head. "Easy now, let me help you." came a deep, yet reassuring voice.
As the little girl was helped up, her red eyes took in the room. There were three people. A woman dressed in white, nurse, an old man in a white coat, no doubt a doctor. But who stood out was the large man who helped her up. The way he was dressed reminded her of the sort of person her parents often told her to stay away from. And yet, with those kind eyes...
"Where...am I?" she said softly, weakly. The doctor nodded. "You're in the North City hospital. Erm, that's on Earth. This gentleman here," he gestured to the large man, "Says he found you on a crashed ship and brought you here." So, they had indeed crash landed. Guess it was better than floating in space.
Ochoa gave a small nod, before a sad look washed over his face. "I'm sorry," he said somberly, "But I'm afraid your parents..."
" I know...
Ochra paused. She knew. Anglace's eyes looked downwards. "Thry...They were dead for a while..." Ochra suspected as such. Some of the wounds on those bodies looked quite old. He had gotten time to notice when he buried them. "Do you mind telling me what happened?" he asked gently, "You don't have to if it's too painful."
Anglace shook her head. "We...we were on our way to Namek. My parents, they liked studying people. They wanted to learn about the Namekians. But...as we were getting close, suddenly there was this big explosion. Rocks were flying everywhere." She started to tremble. "Our ship got hit. We were left adrift. Mom and Dad...they..." Tears formed in her eyes. She didn't have to say anymore.
It was such a horrible thing for a child to go through. Stranded on a dead ship, with nothing but your parents corpses for company. It was a nightmare no child should endure.
Out of sight of the little girl, Ochra's fist clenched. That explosion had to be Namek's destruction. Cress...the Stargoons...they had a lot to answer for.
The doctor nodded morosely. "I'm sorry for everything Miss," he said, before looking at the nurse and Ochra, "We should let her rest. She's been through a horrible ordeal. The two nodded, Ochra rising to his feet as they moved to leave. "W-Wait!" They paused, looking at the small, frightened girl. "C-Can you stay? Please? I don't want to be alone."
Ochra nodded to the doctor and nurse, taking his seat by her bedside as the doctor and nurse left. The room was quiet for a moment. "What's your name?" Ochra asked. "A-Anglace," she replied. Ochra nodded. "A pretty name. From the Brenchia Gemini?" Anglase nodded. "F-From Alpha." Beneath his scarf, Ochra smiled. "I'm Ochra," he said, "A saiyan." Anglase's eyes widened slightly for a moment. "I-I heard that saiyans were violent conquerors," she said. Ochra's smile faded somewhat. "Some are, but not all of us." Anglace nodded. "I...I believe you. If you were bad, you wouldn't have helped me..." Ochra felt a little relieved she didn't see him as a monster.
The room was quiet for a moment. Then Anglace spoke up. "What's going to happen to me?" Ochra was quiet as he thought of his answer. "Well, as soon as you're well again, I believe they would find someone to look after you. I can't imagine they'll leave someone like you all alone."
Anglace was quiet for a moment, thinking. She looked at Ochra. "Can...I stay with you?" Ochra blinked, a little surprised. "Me?" Anglase nodded. "I don't have anyone else in this world. And you seem quite nice. Please?" Ochra looked into those pleading, frightened eyes. She literally was all alone in this universe.
Ochra gave her a warm smile. "I'll see what I can do."
A few days passed. The doctors had wanted to be certain Anglace was fit to leave. Ochra stepped through the hospital doors, out into the sunlight. The bounty hunter looked down at the Brenchian child by his side.
Anglace looked up at him with a hopeful smile.
This was a new point in both their lives.
