The trek to Mooz’ house was quite a bit further than Garnly had anticipated, and What he expected to take roughly 30 minutes was easily quadrupled. The mere fact that Mooz had as much spatial awareness as any normal person without any semblance of eyesight (from what Garnly could tell) was impressive in and of itself, but even more surprising was the building that greeted Garnly upon arriving. The size of Mooz’ house was quite large, and the wealth needed for him to claim such a property was not something Garnly assumed the man to have. Especially considering the humbling state Garnly found him in.
Upon arriving the two are greeted by an envelope taped to the door. Garnly looks to Mooz with a puzzled expression, and Mooz shakes his head in mild frustration.
“They clearly forgot I was blind…” Mooz unfurls the paper inside the envelope and hands it to Garnly. “Can you read this for me?”
This only earns more confusion from Garnly. Mooz expecting the animal who lived on the streets to be able to read the common language? Though it seems his belief was not misplaced as Garnly started to speak with his silver tongue, “Due to my strict work schedule I am not be able to confirm this in person, therefore I leave this message to notify you that construction of the hanger has been completed. Your payment has already been processed and received, thank you for your patronage.” After having spoken the content of the message, Garnly takes the paper from Mooz and starts to eat it. It isn’t that Garnly likes the taste of paper, but it is something to keep him from getting restless. An odd quirk he seems to have picked up from the streets of East City to pass the time when there was not much to do. Mooz gives a raised eyebrow as he feels the paper snatched from him and hears the ensuing sounds coming from Garnly, though he doesn’t question and instead unlocks the door and heads inside.
Garnly follows Mooz into the building, observing his new surroundings. The walls are a dark mahogany color with white trim along the outside, there are two floors immediately visible. A balcony overlooks the main entrance, which has a tiled floor, hardwood steps lead up stairs on each side of the room, a hallway to Garnly’s left leads to what looks like the kitchen and dining area, and finally several doors that can be seen upstairs are what Garnly can only assume to be the bed and bathrooms.
Mooz seems all too familiar with the premises, able to navigate easily despite his lack of sight. He walks over to a lamp table and takes something out of his pocket; a key. It isn’t the same key he used to unlock the door to his house. He places this mystery key in the drawer and then he takes out a small device that had been in the drawer previously. Every time Mooz hits a button on the machine, a monotonous voice can be heard.
“Client 1. Client 2. Client 3…” Mooz stops upon reaching client number 8 and another sound can be heard as he hits a different button, “Do you wish to cancel account number 8?” Mooz hits yet another button, “Account 8 canceled.”
“Im behind on my orders G.” Garnly assumed the man was talking to him since he was the only one there. “Tomorrow we will be going to the Central City Hanger. Gonna find what that key you saw goes to.” Again Mooz’ awareness is eerily high, Garnly’s curiosity only rises.
“Your orders?” Garnly has many questions, but he starts with the easy one. “What is it exactly that you do for a living?” The reason this blind man was out late at night in an alley being attacked by three angry men for a key, was related to whatever his job is.
“I help people to repay their debts.” he speaks with a wide smile, then he smirks, “Forcefully.” That raises several more questions in Garnly’s mind.
“You say ‘Forcefully’ and yet you did not fight back, you just stood your ground in the alley…”
“Oh hoh! You can take things with other methods, force is not always necessary my friend.” Mooz seems to put much confidence into this sentence, he’s clearly proud of his expertise.
“So you are a thief for hire?”
“I like to call it ‘Forceful Liquidation.’ I think it has a neat little ring to it. And besides, that’s exactly what I do most of the time. Almost all of what I take is sold for money to repay the debt the client owes. This time however,” Mooz gestures to the drawer that holds the key he collected, “I was the one that was owed. And what I took will not need to be liquidated.”
“So you stole their car.”
“No, they were forced to pay me back with an asset of equal value. And it’s certainly no car, oh hoh!” he let out a delighted chuckle. “We’ll go to collect the prize after a good rest, let’s get some sleep. You can sleep in my room if you’d like, though if not there is another room.”
Garnly decides to sleep with Mooz. He meanders to the corner of the room, curls up with his back to the wall, and awaits the morning.
Garnly hadn’t slept so well in a long time, longer than he could remember. Garnly woke just after Mooz, the sounds of early morning shifting and shuffling waking him up. After Mooz takes his morning shower, Garnly takes the first bath he’s had in awhile. While Garnly does that Mooz tries to take Garnly’s armor to clean it, though it’s so heavy he can barely move it. Eventually he gets the armor to the kitchen sink and cleans it. After the two are all set to go they head for Central City Hanger.
There are many crafts housed at this hanger; Central City being the capital of earth it makes sense. Because of the sheer size of the hanger it took them an hour to find the craft. A helpful tool in the key letting them listen for a loud chirp from the craft every time they hit a certain allowed them to find exactly which ship it was they were looking for, and also allowed Mooz to help look since he otherwise couldn’t. The ship was quite generic. Black in color, large enough for a small squad, empty of any decoration; it looks well taken care of but it also looks barely used. After their inspection, the duo exit the ship to find a problem.
“That ship ain’t yer’s pops. If you could be so kind and take your leave?”
“Yeah we don’t exactly appreciate people snoopin’ ‘round our stuff.”
“...”
Three men greet them on their exit of the craft. Two have what appear to be some sort of energy rifles, meanwhile the third is unarmed. The unarmed man, however, is towering over the rest. Normally people around Garnly are too weak for him to even register their presence but this man has broken that mold. Even more intriguing is that Mooz was slowly starting to become more of a presence as well. None were even close to that of Garnly but even so, life was beginning to become a lot more interesting.
“My my you all came quite prepared it seems!” Mooz seems genuinely impressed, “Funny how you can afford all that gear but not the debt you’ve accrued.“
“We don’t need no money anymore. Not now when we got the means to take what we want!” He gestures over to the behemoth who stands crossing his arms. “Now we can finally be done with yer’ blasted contract!
“Oh don’t worry about it, grumpy. Your account has already been terminated. We won’t be supporting you anymore and we’re taking this here ship as your severance fee.”
“Like we said, we don’t need no money when we got ‘im.” the second gunman points again to the stoic giant. “I’m sure he’ll help to sort out our debts. Deborah! Show ‘em what we do to thieves!”
The Giant bolts forward with little notice, he charges Mooz coming at him with a right hook. Mooz won’t be able to move fast enough to get out of the way, and that punch is certainly packing some serious power. Garnly darts out and headbutts Deborah straight in the gut.
“EUGH!” A loud grunt can be heard from the towering man as he’s sent back reeling. The grunts now turn their attention towards Garnly who, for the most part, was being ignored until now. It seems Mooz had generated enough ire from these goons that they were dismissing the armored canids presence.
“Nice pet you got there. Let me guess, he’s how your last client’s debt was claimed? Damned no good thief.” Mooz just continues to stand with a smile on his face, this time choosing not to speak, as if to purposefully incite them. “I’ll shoot that damned sneer off yer’ ugly face!”
Both gunmen start to fire at Mooz but before they can Garnly already stands before him, blocking the energy blasts with his armor.
“It would be wise for you to remain in the craft, M.” Garnly continues standing his ground as Deborah recovers and once the gunmen start to reload Mooz hastily retreats into the craft.
“I'll take your advice G, you clearly have this covered. I’ll be waiting for ye inside.” as Mooz disappears into the ship Garnly takes a more aggressive stance. Deborah is now standing tall and angry, the Gunmen have reloaded and again have their rifles trained on Garnly.
Garnly takes the initiative this time, charging past Deborah and crashing full force into one of the thugs in the back. He is sent flying into the wall with a loud thud and before he falls to the ground Garnly has already pivoted to meet the next opponent, swiping at him with enough force to send him barreling into Deborah who catches the body only to throw it back at Garnly. Garnly swiftly dodges before the unconscious mass bounces off the ground and lands near the other.
“GRAAAAAAH!” Garnly senses a large spike in the behemoth's power and prepares himself. “This fight was NOT supposed to be this difficult you oversized Mutt!” Deborah readies for a charge. “Was trying to avoid collateral but yer' forcin' my hand!” He puts his hand up and a large energy can be seen gathering. He directs the energy at Garnly and fires. Garnly tries to block the hit with his armor but he’s sent flying across the hanger. He corrects himself in the air just in time to land on all fours. The giant walks over to one of his unconscious allies and picks up their rifle and starts to unload a volley of blasts at Garnly. Garnly is barely able to reclaim his wits from the hit he took before he sees the volley coming at him. Garnly quickly darts behind the plethora of vehicles in the hanger and notices that the volley becomes slower and more calculated, as well as easier to avoid.
“God damn you coward! Hiding behind the money of others.” Deborah then shifts his attention. “You weren’t the objective anyway, mutt.” and he starts to move towards the craft Mooz has taken cover in. Garnly takes this moment to charge out from cover but is weary of how fast the behemoth let down his guard, Garnly jumps in the way of the ship’s entrance. Deborah may have strength over Garnly, but Garnly was clearly much faster.
“You will not trespass on this ship.” Garnly stands resolute in front of the craft’s entrance
“That ship ain-'' Deborah gets cut off as Garnly Headbutts him full force. Deborah is only just coming out of his daze as the ship flies off leaving him in the hanger to attend to the two unconscious cronies.
The craft is currently on autopilot due to the lack of a pilot with both opposable thumbs and the ability to see.
“We’re going to need to have someone install some controls that you can use, G. Voice controlled autopilot only gets someone so far.” The craft lands in a clearing in Mooz’ backyard. “For now this will have to do, at least we got it home. Was hoping to use that hanger I just had constructed but it can’t be helped… Let’s go eat lunch.”
